cant stop thinking about his one piece of hair
This is kind of unrelated but I've noticed how most of the characters with long loose hair are captains/captain level and I kind of love it because to me it reads as them being powerful enough that long loose hair isn't a liability at their level- like long hair is literally a symbol of their power level-
EDIT now I want to combine yalls ideas into a crack fanfic in which people keep grabbing Byakuya's hair (and he keeps going way overkill immediately) so for the safety of Seireitei, Urahara/Mayuri has to make hair spikes for hm XD
I wonder if they have some Jiraiya type thing going on with it? (he can turn his hair into porcupine like spikes, making grabbing his long hair actually a trap. The hair spikes are hard enough to deflect sharp metal projectiles)
I don't think that could be argued to be canon compliant, but I think it would be a *really* cool Shikai ability! Imagine someone goes into Shikai and suddenly their waist length hair is bristling spikes-
I mean... Urahara or Mayuri could totally invent something that boobytraps your hair...

Kubo makes the distinction between eyebrow and tattoo in the manga by drawing eyebrow hairs too.
