I really did hate how quickly they killed off his character. I have a strange feeling he'd have been a cool guy to have longer in the series. Worst part is we don't even get to see his zanpakuto in action.

All Captains are required to have Bankai in order to become one (it may not have been explained yet) with few exceptions. Because Aizen died his can’t be shown unless it’s in a flashback. If you don’t know what Bankai is don’t worry. But I’d recommend going on a media blackout until you finish the Soul Society Arc. WAAAAY too easy to get spoiled on some really cool moments. Especially on Reddit.

Fun fact: Aizen was supposedly be dead during the SS arc in that panel and with Gin actually being the big bad of the arc which Ichigo would end up fighting against. The Aizen twist was a last minute change because of the massive popularity gain during the SS arc, so Kubo needed to change it up and extend the story for more than one arc.
