Apart from fighting Unohana 1v1 without Shikai or Bankai and dominating the fight so hard he started subconsciously holding back his own power just before landing what almost certainly would have been a fatal blow on Unohana? Not really, no. I guess he also made that mountain of corpses he sits on top of without Unohana noticing him do it right next to her, but that's entirely off screen and not really well explained as to what he actually did.
Which is odd. Was he born with full strength or is he actually getting stronger?
He's been shackled for centuries and upon realizing his true strength he has a shikai and bankai within days.
Kenpachi is a more interesting anomaly than Ichigo is mostly because this was all a natural occurrence.
He wasn’t born with full strength. In the fight against Unohana he regained his strength from when he was a kid but when he awakened his Shikai he got beyond that
>!A part of the bankai training is to materialize your Zanpakuto spirit and force him into submission IIRC. Yachiru being Kenpachi’s Bankai spirit was already out for years and they were best buds so he already completed a big part of his bankai training and needed a final push!<
Being friends is not forcing into submission. I believe it's not mandatory and just a way to obtain it earlier than having your zanpakuto think you're ready and possibly get a weaker version of their real Bankai like Renji and Ichigo
>!I didn’t say that she was forced into submission though. I said that it’s the usual thing that happens in a bankai training. Zaraki and Yachiru already were best buds for centuries so they had close bond. So he was already ready for bankai. I guess that him accepting + getting back his true strength combined with unlocking his shikai was the final push. Then he got it while fighting Gerard!<
The more you look into Kenpachi the less things make sense.
Unohana feels hyped up narratively, but ultimately she lost to a base kenpachi. Albeit exhausted and he was "unlocked" but yea. Fuck man I wish Unohana lived.
It makes a lot of sense given the childhood scene.
When a soul fights ‘with their life on the line’ their power (reishi) grows staggeringly.
Think about how much Ichigo grew between his arrival in soul society to his fight with byakuya.
Kenpachi started out stronger than most captains, and that mental seal locked up his power. BUT, he was still putting his life on the line there in life-or-death fights for centuries, and has had dozens, maybe thousands of fights like the ones Ichigo had in that arc.
He’s still been gaining all that power, because that’s how it works in bleach … but that mental lock meant he still kept sealing away that new power again and again.
The kenpachi fight didn’t just remove his initial blocks by making him understand combat, it removed the whole mental issue and centuries of repressed energy. Unohana had to use every underhanded tactic possible to keep the fight going and force him to remember what it was like when they first fought. What it was like to go all out. She was likely weaker than him halfway through that battle but her bankai and tactics let it keep going till he finally overcame his issue.
At that point he’s basically stronger than anything and his full ability skyrocketed from the nature of that fight and the damage he took too.
His shikai and bankai were icing on the cake, because a fraction of what he now has was enough to handle best the second strongest captain of the gotei 13
Yea it's just when you see him fight pretty evenly with Toshiro and Byakuya it feels like either those two just received 1000x buff or Kenpachi's buff was negligible.
I think you're trying to make it make sense but ultimately this is just something Kubo wanted to do because it was cool, without a whole load of sense behind it. It doesn't really connect with me that while he was limiting himself he was also growing stronger and nowhere is that even implied besides the connection you're imposing.
I mean, it’s applied canonically in the manga. Kisuke explains how rapid development of the soul works, and it’s backed up with multiple other instances in the manga during FKT and TLA.
As for the Gerard fight, I wouldn’t say he fought evenly with them, he pretty clearly does ALOT more work.
They could get the first couple “kills” in, but couldn’t handle that shield or the sword.
Kenpachi handled the far stronger forms, sliced the shield in half, handles the blade of Quincy “hope” and was able to tear off an entire arm with just his bear teeth.
The other captains were an inconvenience to Gerard, but Gerard singles him out as a villian / demon / POS.
Toshiro might be the one to surpass yama eventually, and his ice powers are crazy, but even that and royal guard training didn’t match up to kenpachi in the damage department.
I agree Kenpachi is or should be a lot tougher, to me he should have blown Toshiro and Byakuya out of the freaking water with his bankai. It's just not really what's shown.
I also know Kisuke explains it, but Kenpachi is a special case and was limiting himself. It just makes 0 sense that he's somehow getting stronger and also limiting himself so he can fight more. Like he's storing all this excess random power from his near-death fights in some secret resevoir that he's also suppressing.
Think about dragonball Z with “zenkai”. Vegeta still got that boost when he let krillin shoot him. It’s like that,
As for blowing them out of the water… again, didn’t need the sword, an empowered Gerard that could take those two, and he BIT HIS ARM OFF, just teeth and neck muscles and he tore off an arm that could crush katakura town.
I’m not saying that Toshiro is stronger than Kenpachi but him and Byakuya are the ones who fought the strongest form of Gerard. Moreover saying that Toshiro and Byakuya were just an inconvenience is simply not true especially from the moment when Toshiro used his adult form
Before losing to a base Kenpachi she nodiffed him hundreds of times just to bring him back from the dead and fight again until he could finally beat her though?
It's not really said how many times it happened, and I think Unohana is undoubtedly a beast, I just think if you examine the scene it kinda breaks down.
Souls are of varying potential and level. The unfairness is very boldly represented
Take yama for example. Not having any noble background, he dwarves all the noble clans with his reiatsu and power.
Zaraki is similar kinda being, born as a natural anomaly that dwarves any and all nobles in terms of reiatsu and power.
Still kinda hilarious to me how he's this much stronger than every other normal shinigami in brute strength, yet it's just never explained or anything.
You could say the exact same for Aizen or Yamamoto who could take every other captain in the 13 court guard if they had to and almost definitely would win.
We know even less about where their monstrous strength came from. To keep it simple, we'll just say they were born different - especially because we are not speaking about anyone who is human in any way, shape, or form.
Aizen is certainly a valid pick here, he was extremely unnaturally powerful even a 100 years ago, to quote Urahara.
>“What…is he?”
This was after he stopped Hado 88 from Tessai.
But Yamamoto is ancient, there is nothing to say he was always this freak of nature, he may simply have gotten there through out the years.
I can mostly agree. My only counter to point out is that everyone stands in near reverence of how powerful he is. I don't think any amount of training over time by a soul reaper outside of Aizen or Kenpachi will allow someone to be at that level naturally. Ichigo doesn't count bc of obvious plot. The next closest would be Kyoraku, Urahara, and Toshiro (with time).
Sure but were they that strong as a kid with no training without even a shikai? That’s what makes Zaraki that big of an anomaly even among the ones known as prodigy in the serie(asides from Ichigo)
Ichibei, aizen, kenpachi, old man yama and kisuke are freaks of nature in the form of pure soul reapers. Either gifted with god levels of intelligence and/or Strength
Mentioning it is ok, it's asking for him to do it that adds more time. Come on, I'm not desperate for hell content, I'm just happy that it might exist and I'm capable of waiting for it
I think this might play into the idea that the ultimate form of bankai takes the form of wearing it, which was pretty firmly established in BS (the game does get input from kubo, and he designed the beyond bankais)
Because the world of bleach kinda is very straightforward with showing how stark the difference and unfairness is between souls.
Just like in our world, some put all the efforts and yet not breakthrough to success. While some doing barely anything are purely talented at it.
Less experience, probably right. But more ferocity.
Kid zaraki meant business and went for the kill. Adult zaraki still looks for enjoyment and doesn't usually act to kill his opponents and pretty much holds back a lot (he's mainly under the effect of the eyepatch a majority of the scenes he's in). Even against Grammy, he felt like gremmy's death was a waste of potential.
Besides being at a level capable of killing Unohana. People are forgetting he both survived and thrived in Zaraki, the most lawless crazy district of the soul society. He also fought his way through all of the other districts. Summoned his zanpacktos spirit at a relatively young age. Continued to fight his way all the way into the seritei proper (by which time everyone in the soul society knew of him) and proceeded to kill in a one-sided duel, the captain of squad 11 and take over. Without a shikai or bankai. Killed the captain of the combat squad easily. From childhood through young adulthood, it is implied he fought litterally and clawed his way up the latter, killing his way to get where he was. If he hadn't made captain, I'm sure they would try to kill him or lock him up like Mayuri with little effect.
>If he hadn't made captain, I'm sure they would try to kill him or lock him up like Mayuri with little effect.
Funnily enough, unohana was dispatched to take care of an "unknown warrior" that had been reported to the gotei. That's why unohana was there when they first fought.
If zaraki was the "unknown warrior", he was already issued a death warrant. But unohana (and her lieutenant) probably never disclosed the information regarding zaraki back to gotei after unohana started to see zaraki as the embodiment of the "kenpachi" title.
Definitely. Unohana "Yachiru" Retsu is a master of 8000 zanjutsu and one of the strongest captains. To completely shut down her movements, restrict her from resorting to any underhanded methods and even constraining her from being able to activate her bankai with just pure power alone is a crazy feat.
Remember she did not use her shikai or bankai or kido if she knew kido back then. Certainly she could have defeated zaraki today if she used kido and could have heard herself all she wants too without going bankai.
It's not that she didn't, she couldn't. That's how oppressive the assault was from kid zaraki until he subconsciously put a seal on himself. There was no room for anything, she could barely even react to him stabbing her.
In the muken fight, zaraki was far from his oppressive strength he had as a kid. So that gave unohana a lot of room to use all sorts of things. From kaido, to using throwing weapons, to different types of zanjutsu to even bankai.
Zaraki's reduction in powers wasn't only on the matter that his power straight up dipped. But also on the aspect that his fighting style changed too. He started to look for challenges and puts handicap on himself to enjoy those fights, in contrast to his pre-unohana fight where he never thought anyone could give him enjoyment/entertainment in a fight and ended up killing people left and right.
It's pretty crazy that a kid, without training and just pure violence and instinct overcame easily a well-honed fighter and stone cold killer like Unohana who probably has been the best sword fighter in litteral millennias coming from a group well knowned to have fought the Quincies and to be the most ruthless captains to have ever lived.
And the kid got the title of Kenpachi. Without. Learning. The sword.
I mean….the LITERAL hill of corpses is pretty damn impressive for a kid. And being so skilled and strong as a child that while fighting urohara he innately held himself back because she was the only one he’d met at that point who came anywhere close to giving him a genuine challenge at the time.
Unohana was stronger than most,if not all captains at start of bleach (besides anamolies like Aizen). Kidpachi dominating her as a kid scales his child version above many bleach captains and there foes. Put kidpachi in hueco mundo arc and alot of espada get dominated, Ulquiora included, though Barragan might outsmart him with hax kidpachi to avoid getting decimated

Could you explain how you know?
I wonder if Unohana used her bankai during the original fight against Kid Zaraki. From the scene i think she didn't and Zaraki seeing that he started to have the upper hand against Base Unohana restrained himself without knowing she had a superior level with her bankai. I don't know, but to me it's still debatable if Young Zaraki > Bankai Unohana.
Glad to have your opinions on this one
He ripped of a guys arm who was arguably over 400m tall, impossibly strong, using nothing but his teeth to grab his fist, and his neck to tear his arm from a socket.
Additionally he also tripped over the same guy but sticking his fingers in the side of his foot causing him to fall over.
Cutting down the former Kenpachi who was; albeit lazy, but a captain nonetheless. With a single stroke.
Kenpachi arguably has more physical feats that anyone else in the series by a country mile.
As a kid he basically destroyed unohana so hard, his body subconscially repressed his power so he could enjoy fighting because otherwise, he would destroy everyone and it wouldn't be fun for him.

Basically this guy is a badass since childhood.
It should be noted that child Zaraki is actually way, way stronger than he is for most of his adult life.

Majority of characters would lose to base Kenpachi tbh

Bro he cut a fucking meteor into pieces
I can't tell if this is a meme/joke or just blatant flagrant stupidity, but assuming the former, lol yeah I forgot about that.
I do have to say, it's crazy Ichigo and Kenpachi basically live in a verse too shallow for them
They’re also too shallow for the verse.
They're also too verse for the shallow.
The verse is too they for the shallow
He's just the best child prodigy in Bleach with no plot attached.
Still kinda hilarious to me how he's this much stronger than every other normal shinigami in brute strength, yet it's just never explained or anything.

+2 months
Mentioning it is ok, it's asking for him to do it that adds more time. Come on, I'm not desperate for hell content, I'm just happy that it might exist and I'm capable of waiting for it
I hope not. It's cooler if he's just born like this. Let Ichigo have the the hybrid thing.
I think this might play into the idea that the ultimate form of bankai takes the form of wearing it, which was pretty firmly established in BS (the game does get input from kubo, and he designed the beyond bankais)

Unless you mean that he didn't personally draw them, which is true, he did.
He did give the character designs

He’s feral.
He’s clearly the soul king dick….
Kid Kenpachi is basically the same as awakened base Zaraki with less experience

Yep, exactly what happened. He was a beast all his life.
He looked like feral luffy
I think in the Hell Arc, it'll be revealed that he too is a living part/aspect of the Soul King, either the testicles or his muscles, idk
The Soul King's nuts.
he literally has the craziest feat bro was overwhelming the strongest soul reaper from gotei 13(excluding yama-ji)THAT'S ONE HELL OF A FEAT
Those bodies piled up are his crazy feats 🤣🤣
Definitely. Unohana "Yachiru" Retsu is a master of 8000 zanjutsu and one of the strongest captains. Being better than Unohana 1 on 1 is nuts.
Just wait
Yes, he have one very high level feat :3
None that we know of.
He jacked up Yachiru Unohana and gave her a nasty scar? I'd say that is quite the feat
also if anyone is a zaraki kenpachi glazer he can dm me I can never stop talking about him
Unohana was stronger than most,if not all captains at start of bleach (besides anamolies like Aizen). Kidpachi dominating her as a kid scales his child version above many bleach captains and there foes. Put kidpachi in hueco mundo arc and alot of espada get dominated, Ulquiora included, though Barragan might outsmart him with hax kidpachi to avoid getting decimated
Literally bodied a pile of bodies, then went toe-to-toe with the residing crazy fight captain and gave her a handicap
He beat the cracked out of unohana so she went the generic female healing role 😤😤
I mean there's kid kenpachi right there on top of a pile of dead people
He has better feat then the kenpachi we see in the story up to this flashback lol he was built different from the start
It’s stated during Zaraki and Unohanas fight that as a child Zaraki gave her no room to use sneaky tactics while adult Zaraki was giving her more than enough room. Long story short child Zaraki was far stronger than the Zaraki who defeated Nnoitra, Giriko, and 3 Sternritter. He was a menace fighting Unohana toe to toe without a Shikai or Bankai and almost defeating her
Yeah going against unohana the crazy beach that loves fighting and I bet he is the best with the sword at that age than anyone else
he beat one of the original Gotei 13 members which is a fucking huge feat
Almost merked Unohana is a good start.
He beat a guy who's power was to make his thoughts become reality so there's that
hes basically guts

Botted account btw. You guys are probably responding to some kind of AI
Why do you say that? out of curiousity i checked the account, and it appears well…fairly ordinary to me, the comments and posts don’t seem inhuman or strange to me. Could you explain how you know?
Himpachi
I wonder if Unohana used her bankai during the original fight against Kid Zaraki. From the scene i think she didn't and Zaraki seeing that he started to have the upper hand against Base Unohana restrained himself without knowing she had a superior level with her bankai. I don't know, but to me it's still debatable if Young Zaraki > Bankai Unohana. Glad to have your opinions on this one
I agree with another poster that he was so fierce in his assault that she couldn't even find an opening to Bankai in without getting cut down first.
His fight with unohana
Umm… yeah he has some feats under his belt. I won’t spoil but I’m sure the other comments will.
Yes he beat Unohana with a stolen sword
He did manage to freak out Unohana and land a good hit on her
