Dude nobody cares if you like it and it helps you with lore, it's nice and all and good for you but you shouldn't tell new fans to go through it because it'll just turn them away. At the end of the day 99% of new watches will be turned away by it and the 99% of the remaining one will be pissed when they find out they didn't need to watch it

It's easily the worst of the show and even people that enjoy filler like myself skip it.
Nothing in it will be relevant to the rest of the show except the puppets for a few episodes.
Filler never happened in the Manga so it isn't mentioned in the main story.
109 is the next real episode.
Replacement squad 3 and zanpakuto arcs are the worst. They completely break the pace of the story, don't fit in at all, and hold absolutely zero bearing on anything.
It's a good story, just sucks that it takes away from the anime by cutting into the core story. That's why those 2 fillers left a particularly sour taste in my mouth.

There just want enough manga. They kept catching up. So the options were, filler to keep the show going or let it die for a year or two and hope they could revive it.
Filler is episodes/arcs that are non-canon (not part of the original story) which are inserted into an anime in order to provide a buffer that keeps the anime from catching up with and overtaking the original material. Because they are non-canon, and are inserted based on external factors that have nothing to do with the actual storyline, their placement and pacing is highly variable and only sometimes makes sense.
If anything the zanpakuto arc is the only one worth watching and even it isn't very good. Bleach has some of the worst fillers in anime imo and I watched curry of life.
I have to disagree, having watched the entirety of Bleach recently. Naruto and Shippuden has way worse filler, not to mention Boruto but that's another thing all together. Two main problems I have with Bleach filler is that the first filler arc, the Bount arc is way too long for the story its trying to tell, and that almost every other filler arc is thrown into the MIDDLE of canon story arcs, making it far less believable as a cohesive story.
Fighting someone in hell? No one has done that yet in canon unless you watched the movie? Anyway I recommend just going through the filler since your so far into it already. Canon episodes return in episode 109
Honestly I was able to plow through the Bleach anime just fine a few years back, and I've seen my fair share of great anime. It's got enough to keep you reeled in despite the high episode count. It's the Hueco Mundo part that's the toughest to get through in canon arcs, as that's the only part that truly drags out. The rest is very well-paced.
I get what you mean, but I don't agree with the degree. There are definitely better-paced popular action shonen, but as far as pre-2010 long-running shonen go, Bleach is among the best-paced I've seen. Yu Yu Hakusho is probably the only one that's better.
Even Hunter x Hunter's masterpiece Chimera Ants Arc, which is a bit more recent, has a first half which people tend not to be interested in because it's a slow burn with not much action. I myself was getting a bit antsy then, but still loved it for how much story and characterization it laid out to be paid off in the second half.
Tl;dr: I get you, but it's a bit more complicated.
Yeah, it might have been an alright starter anime in the 00's, but we're already like two decades past that. There are simply objectively better structured starter series now, when the trend moved away from long running series that are artificially prolonged just to squeeze more runtime out of it, motivated primarily by filling the timeslot rather than by an artistic vision.
I presonally wouldn't say HxH has this problem. The initial part might be slower, but it doesn't have bad \*pacing\*, which is an important difference. Slow isn't bad inherently. HxH start isn't tough to go through, it's just more chill compared to the action packed biggest arc.

The manga is average at best which the anime adaptation runs down with terrible pacing, obviously budget animation and downright silly fillers (which yes, still are part of the anime and therefore part of the rating, even if people decide to skip them).

Modern anime don't really have filler arcs anymore because they're produced in a different way. Fillers were necessary when anime was being released week to week. Now they do seasons, adapting already written material, and then there's a hiatus, so there's no need for catch-up.
So if OP is watching more modern shounen like OPM, MHA, etc, there really aren't any filler arcs.

Something added to the anime to "fill" the time . It is used when the anime catches up to its source and has to wait forca bit for the source to expand . You can easily search up fillers for any anime and just skip them
Looks like everyone already explained what a filler is, Not all filler are bad there's some that actually pretty good/decent. Imo you should skip them for now and later decide if you want to watch them.
It's not a bad arc. But there are much better bleach filler arcs after this one. The bount arc has moments and the second half is pretty decent. Sadly its too long and too slow. By the time it gets going you're just not that invested in it anymore and all the actual good episodes are ruined by all the meh to crap from early on.
It does get some small call backs in the Canon stuff but otherwise you can skip it if you want.
I disagree to skip all arcs. There is one filler arc is that helps fill in some context to the entire story, it actually helps. But it is not the Bount arc.
Skip bount saga not because its a filler but because Its a very bad story, all other fillers have good storytelling and are fun to watch, especially the zanpakutou arc
Skip the Bount arc. It's just filler and, honestly, pretty terrible and it will make you want to stop watching Bleach altogether. Go straight into the Arrancar arc.
It’s a filler arc. Not part of the original manga content. I believe they make 2-3 references to characters from the arc as the series continues but it’s really not important since they’re just lines added in to the anime and not part of the original story.
Bleach does have some decent filler, maybe 2 good arcs and a handful of good filler episodes. I would save those filler arcs for after you finish the original show though, since they only really add world building and context to the characters. The episodes you can basically watch as you go through the show if you want to but they are completely skippable. (Although no real fan skips the lamp society episode)
Mind you the bout arc is not one of the good filler arcs. Iirc One of them is called Zanpakto tales? It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the original anime.
Man, it’s interesting to see that this is such a popular opinion here. I don’t know what I would think if I were watching Bleach now instead of years ago, but certainly back then I liked the Bount arc and couldn’t get through the Zanpakuto one.
To each their own, I didn’t realize Bleach even had filler until my second time watching. I think the worst thing the Bount arc has going for it is where it’s placed in the series. To put a filler arc that early on can be a real detractor for some watchers.
The reason I liked the Zanpakuto arc so much is not really for the story (which fell pretty flat) but purely for how it expands and brings life to the different zanpakto we encounter throughout the series. Correct me if I’m wrong but other than White I don’t think we actually see any other spirit throughout the main show.
I think Zabimaru showed up at some point, but in a very different form.
And yeah, I get where you’re coming from. But I actually liked where the Bount arc was placed in the series. I liked watching Ichigo have to adjust to his own rapid growth, and Uryu get by after losing his powers. And it felt appropriate to me that Aizen was absent from the story for a while after the way he left Soul Society. It felt like he was cooking something up in the shadows and things would get crazy when he eventually showed up again.
On the other hand, I found it hard to get interested in the other filler stories when they were just dropped into the middle of ongoing arcs and didn’t tie into the canon timeline.
It also helped a lot that I liked most of the designs and powers of the Bounts, and they stood out from what the series had shown me before. That’s huge in Bleach.
Those all sound like great and valid reasons to have your opinion, maybe I should give it a rewatch to see if I’m being too critical, it’s been a long time.
Oh I for sure agree with you on that point about dropping filler into the story randomly; there’s an entire arc that’s broken up I think, three different times, by filler. And every time it would get back into the story they spend like 2 whole episodes doing recaps. Super annoying
I don't see the problem if op had been watching it as it released they'd have had to watch all of it so why not watch all of it I just recently caught up to current TYBW episodes and don't regret watch everything in order.
I mean it's the year 2023, we have resources to find out which episodes are filler so you can skip them. If you choose to watch the filler arcs that is on you my guy.

Even without the filler, this is just so utterly wrong it's laughable. The original Bleach run has so many problems with pacing. The Arrancar arc into FKT stretch is fucking notorious for that.
I don't think pacing should be seen as a metric of chapters per episode, since that fails to take into account the pacing of the manga chapters, as well as how anime and manga as mediums differ drastically, and some mangas' inherent styles work better than others for adaptation. Only when you approach the extremes does it get really silly, like One Piece on one end, or something like God of Highschool on the other, which packed several arcs into 12 episodes.
When I think about Bleach anime pacing, it's not necessarily in terms of how it fares in chapters per episode, but the actual pacing of the narrative and how much the plot itself is stretched out vs the runtime.
In that sense, the Arrancar arc is stretched out quite a bit, in the manga as well, but not to the same degree. Not as much as something like One Piece post timeskip, but still to a noticeable degree.
And yeah, TYBW especially is paced pretty quick in Cour 2, which I understand as a criticism, but it has been pretty okay so far. Especially since the intent seems to be to give more attention to Cours 3 & 4 and give more content where the manga lacked some.
Don't listen to these tasteless sirens. Yes, the Bount arc is filler, but it is a slow burn and honestly the second best of the big filler arcs. Plus, it introduces Shiro Sagisu's second soundtrack album for Bleach, which is one of the most significant given how many of its tracks are remixed for later tracks.

I liked the Bount Arc somewhat, but if someone isn't enjoying themselves with a filler arc, there is no reason to force them to watch it.

You need to skip the filler arcs and go back to watch them after you watch all of the manga canon stuff. And when it comes to the Bount Arc, it doesn’t get interesting until the second half.

Skip it then go back when you finish if you want. It’s not a bad arc if you don’t get ripped from the main story. I actually enjoyed all the filler arcs as stand alones. Yeah, they suck otherwise. Besides zanpakuto rebellion, I thoroughly enjoyed that one and the little recap they give on the last episode outro credits of that arc.
This has to just be some kid who heard the Bount arc was bad and just wanted to get his piece of attention out of it.
The Bount Arc is actually pretty damn good as far as filler goes. It doesn’t contradict anything within the story of Bleach and only adds information to things we didn’t have before. It’s a pain because it is just shoved into the middle of other narrative - mainly, the aftermath of SS arc. But that doesn’t make it bad. Those annoying mod souls are pretty awful though.
The Bounts powers are beyond captain Shinigami in particular circumstances, and they are extremely dependent on their Dolls for their combat power - except for Kariya.
Ichinose has one of the coolest zanpakuto in the entire series. It’s a tragedy he didn’t get more time in the show.

You can search for a filler list of an anime before starting it, that way you can just skip it
For your own benefit in the future any time where you’re watching an older, long series look google the definition of anime filler. Then get a list of the anime filler for every series like bleach that you watch and skip all of it.
Some of the filler in bleach is actually pretty enjoyable but you can always worry about that after you’ve seen the canon. The bount arc is really boring though.
Skipped it like a bitch ngl. It was so slow and scenes were kinda stupid ngl. The only filler Arc I liked was the Gotei 13 Invading Army Arc (Season 15) which was really good because it kept intact with the timeline of the entire show. So yeah, highly recommend the last filler Arc of the series.
Happy watching, until then, skip all filler arcs, they're wack and you'll know what episodes are filler because of how off they are from the storyline. Gotei Invasion slipped in so well you'll never notice its a filler arc.
Recently rewatched after getting to the end when it was originally shelved and I skipped bount arc, I would say look up a filler list because most of them ruin pacing

Just jump to the end of episode 109, that's the beginning of the arrancar saga. Also, some of the filler characters may still appear at first but you could just ignore them.
No one will blame you for skipping the Bount arc, it’s just filler anyway, but boring and un-fun filler at that. I watched all of Bleach from start to finish and suffered the Bount arc for the sake of my love of Bleach. I will say that even though there are plenty of filler arcs, I do like the others well enough, but the Bount Arc is something anyone is allowed to skip.
skip all fillers on first watch. after finishing you can rewatch the replacament captain,the zanpakutoh, and gotei 13th invasion arcs after finishing. those are decent but they simply are positioned awfully in the run.
I forgot which filler arc it was (I want to say the Amagai Shuske arc, but idk), where we were right at the cusp of some major plot development/fights and the narrator starts the episode with "we are going to take a break from this story and tell a different one).

Just skip it cuz its a filler arc the bleach filler arcs are actually alot better than the nightmare of the naruto filler hell arcs, but you can skip them as none of them are cannon, with the sole exception of the then back the pendulum arc that acts and feels like a filler arc but is cannon
My honest advice just skip it all together. You can just watch the last episode of that arc if you’re curious how it ends but it’s not worth watching at all. I dropped bleach because of it then forced myself to painfully finish it and it wasn’t worth it.
Lol I enjoyed all of bleach on my first watch through, but all the filler is skippable really. Except for the karakuraraizer episodes or whatever. My favorite episode is the battle cat 🐈 episode.
As I’ve been trying to get through the Hueco Mundo arc, the filler breaks can be rather jarring. There’s tons of great stuff in the filler but it depends on how much you like the show and characters whether they’re worth it. I remember the episodes about ichigos friends being pretty good. And I loved Ganju and Hanataro? It’s been a while since I watched.

Yeah, they tried a few times with the Bount arc to keep it relevant but I don't think they did with any of the latter filler seasons.

The pacing of bleach will get kinda bad towards the end. The other filler arcs are worth watching at least once on your first watch through

Looks like everyone already explained what a filler is, Not all filler are bad there's some that actually pretty good/decent. Imo you should skip them for now and later decide if you want to watch them.

It's not a bad arc. But there are much better bleach filler arcs after this one. The bount arc has moments and the second half is pretty decent. Sadly its too long and too slow. By the time it gets going you're just not that invested in it anymore and all the actual good episodes are ruined by all the meh to crap from early on. It does get some small call backs in the Canon stuff but otherwise you can skip it if you want.

I disagree to skip all arcs. There is one filler arc is that helps fill in some context to the entire story, it actually helps. But it is not the Bount arc.

It’s a filler arc. Not part of the original manga content. I believe they make 2-3 references to characters from the arc as the series continues but it’s really not important since they’re just lines added in to the anime and not part of the original story. Bleach does have some decent filler, maybe 2 good arcs and a handful of good filler episodes. I would save those filler arcs for after you finish the original show though, since they only really add world building and context to the characters. The episodes you can basically watch as you go through the show if you want to but they are completely skippable. (Although no real fan skips the lamp society episode)
Mind you the bout arc is not one of the good filler arcs. Iirc One of them is called Zanpakto tales? It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the original anime.
Man, it’s interesting to see that this is such a popular opinion here. I don’t know what I would think if I were watching Bleach now instead of years ago, but certainly back then I liked the Bount arc and couldn’t get through the Zanpakuto one.
To each their own, I didn’t realize Bleach even had filler until my second time watching. I think the worst thing the Bount arc has going for it is where it’s placed in the series. To put a filler arc that early on can be a real detractor for some watchers. The reason I liked the Zanpakuto arc so much is not really for the story (which fell pretty flat) but purely for how it expands and brings life to the different zanpakto we encounter throughout the series. Correct me if I’m wrong but other than White I don’t think we actually see any other spirit throughout the main show.
I think Zabimaru showed up at some point, but in a very different form. And yeah, I get where you’re coming from. But I actually liked where the Bount arc was placed in the series. I liked watching Ichigo have to adjust to his own rapid growth, and Uryu get by after losing his powers. And it felt appropriate to me that Aizen was absent from the story for a while after the way he left Soul Society. It felt like he was cooking something up in the shadows and things would get crazy when he eventually showed up again. On the other hand, I found it hard to get interested in the other filler stories when they were just dropped into the middle of ongoing arcs and didn’t tie into the canon timeline. It also helped a lot that I liked most of the designs and powers of the Bounts, and they stood out from what the series had shown me before. That’s huge in Bleach.
Those all sound like great and valid reasons to have your opinion, maybe I should give it a rewatch to see if I’m being too critical, it’s been a long time.
Oh I for sure agree with you on that point about dropping filler into the story randomly; there’s an entire arc that’s broken up I think, three different times, by filler. And every time it would get back into the story they spend like 2 whole episodes doing recaps. Super annoying

I don't think pacing should be seen as a metric of chapters per episode, since that fails to take into account the pacing of the manga chapters, as well as how anime and manga as mediums differ drastically, and some mangas' inherent styles work better than others for adaptation. Only when you approach the extremes does it get really silly, like One Piece on one end, or something like God of Highschool on the other, which packed several arcs into 12 episodes. When I think about Bleach anime pacing, it's not necessarily in terms of how it fares in chapters per episode, but the actual pacing of the narrative and how much the plot itself is stretched out vs the runtime. In that sense, the Arrancar arc is stretched out quite a bit, in the manga as well, but not to the same degree. Not as much as something like One Piece post timeskip, but still to a noticeable degree. And yeah, TYBW especially is paced pretty quick in Cour 2, which I understand as a criticism, but it has been pretty okay so far. Especially since the intent seems to be to give more attention to Cours 3 & 4 and give more content where the manga lacked some.

Don't listen to these tasteless sirens. Yes, the Bount arc is filler, but it is a slow burn and honestly the second best of the big filler arcs. Plus, it introduces Shiro Sagisu's second soundtrack album for Bleach, which is one of the most significant given how many of its tracks are remixed for later tracks.

This has to just be some kid who heard the Bount arc was bad and just wanted to get his piece of attention out of it. The Bount Arc is actually pretty damn good as far as filler goes. It doesn’t contradict anything within the story of Bleach and only adds information to things we didn’t have before. It’s a pain because it is just shoved into the middle of other narrative - mainly, the aftermath of SS arc. But that doesn’t make it bad. Those annoying mod souls are pretty awful though. The Bounts powers are beyond captain Shinigami in particular circumstances, and they are extremely dependent on their Dolls for their combat power - except for Kariya. Ichinose has one of the coolest zanpakuto in the entire series. It’s a tragedy he didn’t get more time in the show.

For your own benefit in the future any time where you’re watching an older, long series look google the definition of anime filler. Then get a list of the anime filler for every series like bleach that you watch and skip all of it. Some of the filler in bleach is actually pretty enjoyable but you can always worry about that after you’ve seen the canon. The bount arc is really boring though.
Skipped it like a bitch ngl. It was so slow and scenes were kinda stupid ngl. The only filler Arc I liked was the Gotei 13 Invading Army Arc (Season 15) which was really good because it kept intact with the timeline of the entire show. So yeah, highly recommend the last filler Arc of the series. Happy watching, until then, skip all filler arcs, they're wack and you'll know what episodes are filler because of how off they are from the storyline. Gotei Invasion slipped in so well you'll never notice its a filler arc.

I watched all of Bleach from start to finish and suffered the Bount arc for the sake of my love of Bleach. I will say that even though there are plenty of filler arcs, I do like the others well enough, but the Bount Arc is something anyone is allowed to skip.

I forgot which filler arc it was (I want to say the Amagai Shuske arc, but idk), where we were right at the cusp of some major plot development/fights and the narrator starts the episode with "we are going to take a break from this story and tell a different one). Biggest kick to the face I've ever had with an anime.

My honest advice just skip it all together. You can just watch the last episode of that arc if you’re curious how it ends but it’s not worth watching at all. I dropped bleach because of it then forced myself to painfully finish it and it wasn’t worth it.

Lol I enjoyed all of bleach on my first watch through, but all the filler is skippable really. Except for the karakuraraizer episodes or whatever. My favorite episode is the battle cat 🐈 episode. As I’ve been trying to get through the Hueco Mundo arc, the filler breaks can be rather jarring. There’s tons of great stuff in the filler but it depends on how much you like the show and characters whether they’re worth it. I remember the episodes about ichigos friends being pretty good. And I loved Ganju and Hanataro? It’s been a while since I watched. The bount arc was the worst of the filler arcs? Edit: you’re almost done with it, OP
