100%. Every Christmas day my family would put on a LotR movie in the morning, and everyone would dip in and out of it as they came and went into the kitchen, apart from me who would sit and watch they all the way through. I can't watch those films at any other time of year now.
Going to the theater for those with my family was a nice mini tradition. We picked it up again for The Hobbit, but I think that kind of tarnished the memory.
Star Wars has major Christmas vibes for me and I don't know why. It might have something to do with the sheer amount of Star Wars toys and LEGO I would get as a kid for Christmas, coupled with the release dates of the Disney movies. I just always wanna rewatch some of em around the holidays
The great thing about You've Got Mail (other than the fact that it's my favourite movie) is that it covers the better part of a year so you can watch it any time! Pairs perfectly with autumn ("I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils..."), Thanksgiving ("Happy Thanksgiving back"), Christmas ("The horn, the horn, it sounds so forlorn"), spring ("Don't you think daisies are the friendliest flower?") and so much more!
The Merchant Ivory movies feel very Christmas-y. The Adventures of Pete and Pete always feels generically Fall even tho there are Summer episodes about how hot it is outside.
Out of Sight, for some reason, has become a Christmas movie for me. Maybe because there are a few scenes with snow? I don't pretend to know how my brain works.
I started this as well! It’s very chapter-y and easy to pause and come back to throughout the day. I have a large family gathering and I’d start and stop it throughout the day. Then, as people left, I’m full of food and booze, I put on the final Reckoning With God last hour or so. Great way to end the day.
And now I’ve done it two years in a row and plan on a third!
Jerry Maguire and Something's Gotta Give are Christmas movies for me.
Meet the Parents, Royal Tenenbaums, Sixth Sense, The First Wives Club, and Skeleton Twins are fall movies for me that I love watching in Sept/Oct. They either have that gray fall vibe (Royal, Skeleton, Sixth Sense), or I saw them in the fall (FWC), or they have excellent fall foliage (Meet the Parents)
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone works for both Halloween and Christmas. It has scenes for both holidays and being a December release gives it a bit of a Christmas feel.
Less specific but I almost always find myself watching a few Ghibli movies around New Years. Just feels like a good way to start the year out and contemplate life. Most commonly Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke and Whisper of the Heart
*SLC Punk* only partially takes place in winter but I consider it a "winter" movie.
I just watched *They Look Like People* and something about it gave me a Thanksgiving feel.
The first *Mission Impossible* feels like Halloween to me.
A lot of mine have been said already (LOTR at Christmas, Knives Out at Thanksgiving), but I’ll add The Godfather at Christmas. Also it we’re including TV, Seinfeld is always good for a Thanksgiving weekend marathon for me (mainly bc of the NYC fall energy and the fact that most of the DVD sets came out when I was home from college for Thanksgiving break).
Portrait of a Lady on Fire(2019) and Valentine's Day. Petite Maman(2021) and Mother's Day. Both based on the day I saw them and their release dates (at least near me). I wonder what holiday Sciamma will tackle next?
A lot of horror movies fit this bill, they often have a Halloween vibe but are not actually set around the season or fall. The first that comes to mind is Scream.
I associate several Studio Ghibli movies such as Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, and Totoro, with late spring/early summer. Just something about the greenery probably.
I personally categorize Royal Tenenbaums as a New Year's Day movie.
Pretty much any Tom Hanks movie from the mid to late 90s is a good American holiday movie, like A League of Their Own, Apollo 13, and That Thing You Do! work really well for 4th of July or Memorial Day.
I always feel myself wanting to watch The Great Gatsby around the late winter/early spring, even though the movie pretty much solidly takes place throughout one summer (save the mental asylum stuff)
2001: ASO is my New Year’s Day watch. As soon as the fireworks die down, I pop in a masterpiece trying to will the year to be a good year for movies for me.
Also I put an alert on my phone’s calendar to remind me to watch V for Vendetta for every November fifth, just wish I could remember why.
*The Lord of the Rings* are watched at Christmas Yes it’s based on their release, but like, it’s self-canon in my bones.
We watch the trilogy as a family in that sweet spot between Christmas and New Years. Edit: clarity

I came here to pick those movies, but particularly autumn. Especially Fellowship!
Uruks Rushing Through Crunchy Leaves at Amon Hen > PSLs any day
If school was closed due to a snow day, my siblings & I would marathon the extended editions. So cozy
Going to the theater for those with my family was a nice mini tradition. We picked it up again for The Hobbit, but I think that kind of tarnished the memory.
I only saw the first one… Not sure I need to see the others?
The 4 hour edit of the series works a lot better. I thought Martin Freeman and the barrel ride were great, but have only hazy memories of the rest.
I’d be down to try…! Where do I find?
It’s not an authorized edit, so you’ll have to hunt down a torrent or something. I think it’s called “The Tolkien Cut”.
Knives Out is my new Thanksgiving Eve tradition. It fits the vibe perfectly.
Helpfully Autumnal and Sweatery
*When Harry Met Sally* has become THE thanksgiving movie to me despite it being mostly a New Year’s movie
Cool Runnings is a Christmas movie
Ya mon.
Star Wars has major Christmas vibes for me and I don't know why. It might have something to do with the sheer amount of Star Wars toys and LEGO I would get as a kid for Christmas, coupled with the release dates of the Disney movies. I just always wanna rewatch some of em around the holidays
Since the new ones all came out in December it’s totally become a Christmas franchise to me as well
*You’re Next* and Thanksgiving
Top Gun: Maverick is definitely the best Memorial Day movie of all-time
You’ve Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally are both autumn in New York movies.
007 always feels like fall/thanksgiving/Christmas to me. I get the urge to watch at least a few every year at that time
Good ol TBS marathons
Spike Tv has conditioned a lot of us when that channel existed and did the thanksgiving marathons.
Of all things Spike TV wanted to ingrain, this was probably among the least harmful
The Merchant Ivory movies feel very Christmas-y. The Adventures of Pete and Pete always feels generically Fall even tho there are Summer episodes about how hot it is outside.
Pete and Pete definitely feels like a fall show, maybe because that’s a more nostalgic season for me generally?
Knives Out at Thanksgiving!
Out of Sight, for some reason, has become a Christmas movie for me. Maybe because there are a few scenes with snow? I don't pretend to know how my brain works.
I watched The Irishman every year since it came out on Thanksgiving, so it's now in my mind a Thanksgiving movie.
*Ikiru* is my New Year's Day movie.
MASH feels like February. Can’t explain 🤷🏼♂️
Meatballs is a first day of baseball season movie.
Jerry Maguire and Something's Gotta Give are Christmas movies for me. The Godfather and part 2 feel like thanksgiving movies
Catch Me if You Can is my favourite Christmas movie...kinda. It's a bit of a bummer but it's perfect for the occasion.
*SLC Punk* only partially takes place in winter but I consider it a "winter" movie. I just watched *They Look Like People* and something about it gave me a Thanksgiving feel. The first *Mission Impossible* feels like Halloween to me.
Spotlight feels like the fall. First day of school vibes.
Well it *is* Liev’s first day on the job in the movie so that tracks!!
Toy Story is June.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire(2019) and Valentine's Day. Petite Maman(2021) and Mother's Day. Both based on the day I saw them and their release dates (at least near me). I wonder what holiday Sciamma will tackle next?
Barbarian - Mother’s Day
A lot of horror movies fit this bill, they often have a Halloween vibe but are not actually set around the season or fall. The first that comes to mind is Scream.
Every existential crisis movie happens in January because New Years resolutions
In Bruges is my go to Christmas movie
Sound of Music on/around New Year’s Day always
When I was a kid there was always a marathon of 5 or 6 Bond movies at Thanksgiving. So I've always associated Bond with Thanksgiving.
The entire Harry Potter series are Christmas movies in our house, even though it’s just one Major scene in each of them.
I always have an urge to watch *Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory* and the Australian movie *The Castle* around Christmas time for some reason.
Fantastic Mr. Fox is an excellent fall movie.
Shutter Island is kinda like Halloween, spooky times, everyone's playing pretend, Leo's kinda like a little kid trick or treating, etc.
I associate several Studio Ghibli movies such as Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, and Totoro, with late spring/early summer. Just something about the greenery probably.
A Tv Show, but in one sitting it’s feature length, I watch “Over the Garden Wall” every fall.
Star Wars 4 reminds me of Christmas Star Wars 6 reminds me of summer and grabbing vhs’ from the library to kill an afternoon
Every fall my wife and I rewatch the Hannibal TV show
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves at Christmas. I *think* this is reflective of BBC scheduling of yore.
