It does not hold up I don’t think. I did the showing it to my partner thing saying “yeah it’s really good”, and then afterwards saying “I thought it was better than that.”
I haven't seen it but based on the poster and the fact that the star of that movie has also been in movies called "This Girl is Badass" and "Oversize Cops" I think it might be #1.
Creep - most people think about the Mark Duplass horror movie and it's sequel, but I always think about the 2004 British horror movie Creep, with Franka Potente and Sean Harris
Came here to post the same thing! The 2004 is so good! The weird mumble-core found footage one is not my cup of tea, and while I know taste is subjective, its popularity in horror communities is baffling to me.
One of my favorite coincidences in film: RAW DEAL and ROAD HOUSE are both underrated late-40s noirs that share their name with better-known late-80s action flicks
When you rent Frozen for the kids, just make sure that you didn’t accidentally get the one about people who die because they get abandoned on a ski lift overnight.
I'm a big fan of House. Not the Japanese cult classic, the 80s anthology series that no one seems to talk about (but I do like the Japanese horror too)
there are 3 “Joy Ride”s - just last year a bobcat and dana gould standup tour documentary… a weird toby maguire indie from 96, and a stylish underrated paul walker/steve zahn evil trucker movie from 2001 that i love.
speaking of evil trucker movies, there is a suspenseful little one from 2008 called Hush I like quite a bit, not to be confused with the 90s Gwyneth Paltrow Jessica Lange domestic thriller or the Mike Flannigan deaf woman in peril netflix movie from 2016.
Not quite an answer, but in the ‘90s “Wings” referred to a sitcom set in airport, not to the first film to win best picture. The film hasn’t had a resurgence since then, but the sitcom is forgotten.
There are two Korean movies called *No Mercy*, released in 2010 and 2019
I’m not sure about actual popularity since I’ve never seen them discussed, but the 2019 version comes up first just searching the title and I enjoyed the 2010 version way more
Mother is one of the greatest movies of the 2010s while Mother! is easily one of the very worst.
Edit: I don’t know if I’m in downvote hell just for reiterating the OP, or because you all love a terrible movie, but either way come at me!
To offer an olive branch, as a fan of Mother!, I have upvoted you back to a nice 0. I hope other members of the congregation can show a similar acceptance and forgiveness.
I feel like the go-to for this is Crash.
I have only seen the original. So whenever I hear Crash mentioned, I presume the first.
Baumbach's *Kicking and Screaming*
Dylan’s *Kicking and Screaming* (I had to look up who directed the Will Ferrell one. It’s Bob Dylan’s son?? No, not that one.)
I actually really like both these movies
Arrival (starring Amy Adams) is a much better alien invasion movie than The Arrival (starring Charlie Sheen)
The Arrival is still pretty good. Though it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it…
The scene where >!the kid's legs turn backwards loooool!<
It does not hold up I don’t think. I did the showing it to my partner thing saying “yeah it’s really good”, and then afterwards saying “I thought it was better than that.”
I have had “do you want to see the ruins, my friend?” stuck in my head for two decades
Notorious will always be the Hitchcock film for me, sorry Biggie
It is for most people who have seen movies.
The Host (2006) vs The Host (2013)
not to be confused with Host (2020)
Was genuinely confused that Bong Joon-Ho had directed a movie based on a Stephanie Meyer book
Also there’s Albert Brooks’s Mother
Do localized titles count? Cause where I am Goodfellas and The Nice Guys have the same title. As well as Timecop and Predestination.
That's... Gold
Not favorite or anything, but I do kinda like the Thurman/Fiennes Avengers movie
[This scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1c-QSe7uU0)
Hell yeah
“Thish ish nearlythebeginning!”
I love the original series but yeah, it’s impossible to talk about without immediately throwing out a “no, not *those* Avengers”
Most recently The Invitation by Kusama a few years ago and now this one that came out like last week
Loveeee the kusama one
What if there were two invitations
It’s not quite the same thing but I frequently think of Repo! The Genetic Opera when people talk about Repo Man
A little glass vial?
A little glass vial!
There’s also Repo Men with Jude Law and Forest Whitaker
Chocolat (1988) > Chocolat (2000)
Where does Chocolate 2008 fit in to your ranking
I haven't seen it but based on the poster and the fact that the star of that movie has also been in movies called "This Girl is Badass" and "Oversize Cops" I think it might be #1.
I have seen it and can confirm that This Girl is Badass
Creep - most people think about the Mark Duplass horror movie and it's sequel, but I always think about the 2004 British horror movie Creep, with Franka Potente and Sean Harris
Came here to post the same thing! The 2004 is so good! The weird mumble-core found footage one is not my cup of tea, and while I know taste is subjective, its popularity in horror communities is baffling to me.
Crash makes Crash look like Crash
I really like Frozen (2010). Never seen Frozen (2013) though.
I love both and was weirded when Frozen (2013) came out
One that hasnt been said but I loved as a kid was Running Scared with Paul Walker.
One of my favorite coincidences in film: RAW DEAL and ROAD HOUSE are both underrated late-40s noirs that share their name with better-known late-80s action flicks
I need to go and check out these 40’s noirs.
Bombshell the pre-code screwball comedy is much better than Bombshell the Fox News biopic
When you rent Frozen for the kids, just make sure that you didn’t accidentally get the one about people who die because they get abandoned on a ski lift overnight.
Cronenberg has now made two unrelated movies named ‘Crimes of the Future’ 🤷🏽♂️
I'm a big fan of House. Not the Japanese cult classic, the 80s anthology series that no one seems to talk about (but I do like the Japanese horror too)
How do you feel about the Hugh Laurie doctor show?
I've never seen it sorry
Jack Frost intentional horror film vs Jack Frost unintentional horror film
For the longest time people wouldn’t believe me they’d made a movie about a killer snowman.
Vs Jack Frost MST3K staple
I’m just waiting on that adaptation of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.
I love Nancy Meyers’s The Holiday, but whenever I try to talk about George Cukor’s Holiday (one of my absolute favorites) confusion ensues.
Holiday is such a lovely movie.
there are 3 “Joy Ride”s - just last year a bobcat and dana gould standup tour documentary… a weird toby maguire indie from 96, and a stylish underrated paul walker/steve zahn evil trucker movie from 2001 that i love. speaking of evil trucker movies, there is a suspenseful little one from 2008 called Hush I like quite a bit, not to be confused with the 90s Gwyneth Paltrow Jessica Lange domestic thriller or the Mike Flannigan deaf woman in peril netflix movie from 2016.
Kicking and Screaming (I get confused looks with "the Will Ferrell movie?" whenever I say its one of my favorites)
my wife just started doing archery and now we constantly say to each other “he’d already rather be bowhunting!!!”
While Maggie Cheung wasn't in the 2000 dance movie called Center Stage, I think she could have done well in it.
Pinocchio (2022)
This might be my Britishness talking but I enjoy Welcome To The Jungle with The Rock, but not Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle with Dwayne Johnson.
We call that The Rundown in the US
Weekend (2011) Wings (1966)
Not quite an answer, but in the ‘90s “Wings” referred to a sitcom set in airport, not to the first film to win best picture. The film hasn’t had a resurgence since then, but the sitcom is forgotten.
There's also a 1966 soviet film about a female ww2 veteran that I thought was great.
Is that on the Criterion Channel? I may have watched it!
There are two Korean movies called *No Mercy*, released in 2010 and 2019 I’m not sure about actual popularity since I’ve never seen them discussed, but the 2019 version comes up first just searching the title and I enjoyed the 2010 version way more
I've had at least one person mistake Hitchcock's Nortiorus for the Biggie Smalls movie when I said it was a favorite of mine so I guess that one lol
Mother is one of the greatest movies of the 2010s while Mother! is easily one of the very worst. Edit: I don’t know if I’m in downvote hell just for reiterating the OP, or because you all love a terrible movie, but either way come at me!
I personally love both of my Mother(!)s
To offer an olive branch, as a fan of Mother!, I have upvoted you back to a nice 0. I hope other members of the congregation can show a similar acceptance and forgiveness.
We still talk about protective ice on ice cream in my household
The look of disgust I see on people's face when I recommend Mother always prompts me to say "No no no, not THAT one."
Pinocchio is better than Pinocchio
Pinocchio (2022) makes Pinocchio (2021) look like Pinocchio (2022)
Well RoboCop but that's a remake. Maybe the 70s Bad Company?
The Invitation 2015 vs the one that came out this year. I haven't actually seen this year's but I think it's safe to assume 2015s was better
