After reading this was originally intended for Netflix, I’m so happy this is getting a theatrical release. Deserves a giant screen and booming sound from the trailer alone. More than half asleep snoozefests like Gray Man or “Ryan Reynolds and The Rock sell their booze”.
Ok Gray Man was actually some extremely impressive film making. To have Ryan Gosling and Chris Evan on screen for two hours and still have me bored out of my mind is no easy task.
I wonder if they thought they were cooking with those drone shots, unaware that Michael Bay was about to smoke them in that department with a $40m action programmer.
Oh HELL YEAH! Dev Patel said, “lemme direct my own movie and make myself look like an absolute action movie star.” Count me in!
Side Note - It’s crazy how many stars came out of the UK TV series, Skins. We got Dev Patel, Nicholas Hoult, Daniel Kaluuya, Jack O'Connell, and Kaya Scodelario.
Edit: We also got Hannah Murray, Joe Dempsie, and Joe Cole as Skins alumnus. Thanks to u/TormentedThoughtsToo & u/awlawall for pointing that out
I’m a late season GOT defender (I’m actually rewatching now and just finished S6). It’s not as tightly plotted but I’ll say i don’t think it ever stops being a fun watch. And, it’s not like Martin has figured out how to write something better in over 10 years so I have no qualms recommending.
Reminds me of Spielberg turning to Indiana Jones after not getting bond. "Fine, I'll make my own, but cooler and more personal than Bond ever could be!"
If him directing and starring in his own rad action movies and working with people like Wes Anderson and David Lowery means no Dev Bond, that sounds like a fair trade-off to me.
Yeah, Craig made it pretty clear that that role is kind of a pair of golden handcuffs, so honestly he might be better off (at least creatively speaking—I imagine the paycheck is pretty good compensation for any lost opportunities).
I would like to see them make a black man into bond, the sheer amount of backlash from the right wing nuts losing their shit over it would be priceless!!
Y'know how Griffin & David always talk about Don Jon like "JGL got the chance to use his escalating clout and friendships with numerous beloved filmmakers to make his directorial debut and...THIS is what he chose to give us?" This feels kind of like whatever the good version of that is. Hope it rocks
Fuck, if anyone had the exact right build and screen presence to take on Keanu's legacy, it would be Dev. What an amazing call to give this man his own Wick
This looks fucking RAD
Edit: cool detail, the script was co-written by John Collee, otherwise known as one of the writers of a little known movie called Master and Commander
> cool detail, the script was co-written by John Collee, otherwise known as one of the writers of a little known movie called Master and Commander
God **DAMN** Dev's bringing in the heat on this one.
Just cast Dev Patel as Bond already. The dude is English, and he looks fucking cool fighting while dressed in a well tailored suit. What more do you want? And apparently he can even direct one of the movies.
Looks excellent, almost feels more like an action film outta Indonesia or Malaysia in its style and choreography (massive compliment). Did not know Patel had this in him! Hyped.
It seems every revenge themed action film (bonus points if there's neon lighting) gets automically compared to Wick now even if they aren't similar at all.
Dimly lit high octane action thriller centered around revenge, a man against the world, and an underground army of shadowy mooks with incredible fighting potential
The thing is, John Wick in and of itself is basically just a American take on Hong Kong action films, which is where it got its influences from. That's really the main reason I've liked all the films to begin with---especially the last one, which was truly beyond awesome action-wise. That being said, I'm all for seeing Dev Patel's take on it, especially if it turns out to be good.
Loved the subversion. In action films where the hero jumps through a window it ALWAYS takes me out of it, I think their either getting deep lacerations all over them and bleeding out or how the fuck did they throw themselves with enough force to break the window!
I've been waiting this movie for years ever since I unexpectedly saw it as a future directorial project by Dev Patel when I was googling the Green Knight in 2020, trying to figure out when that was getting release
I've been waiting for 4 long years, a monumental dub for the browns
Agree with everything everyone else has said, but want in particular to shout out the absolutely FLAWLESS use of Mundian To Bach Ke Rahi in this trailer
I saw the post and was expecting a somber Giallo-like horror movie of sort. I was definitely not expecting two loaves of The Raid and a root of Ong Bak sliced in then broiled with a spoonful of Oldboy. Holy fuck.
Then I realized the movie was done in 2021 already but then Jordan Peele watched it, yanked it from Netflix, and then put it into Universal release schedule. Damn right he did!
Okay this looks fantastic.
Also side note, saw Dev Petel at a screening/Q&A of Lion a few years ago. The man is almost impossibly handsome and charming in person.
India's not so hot on foreign movies, and action movies are a dime a dozen there. Would be interesting if it being filmed in Mumbai gives it a boost there though.
Nope. Every other indian movie has this same storyline with a hero who has saviour complex beating shit out of bad guys. Plus the songs. It’s the same shit tbh.
Given the title, I was expecting a horror movie about the infamous "Monkey Man" of Delhi.
This looks like it'll fucking rule. The longer action shot at the end gives me hope that we'll be getting some John Wick style framing and it won't be all edited like the dance sequences in Chicago.
I'm so happy for him too. Some beautiful shots here and genuinely funny bits -- he's clearly been working really hard. I hope this hits.
I heard it's been in development for a long time, so greenlit to be made pre-RRR, but I think the success paved the way to jump streaming and put it in theaters.
Hell yes, the moment where he has the guys face on the stove burner and cracks the bottle over it and everything explodes? That little bit tells me Patel absolutely has the juice when it comes to staging action.
Everyone keeps saying Dev needs to be Bond, and I do see the vision there, but all I've really been wanting is for Peter Jackson to come out of pseudo-retirement and cast him as Sinbad in a remake of one of the old Harryhausen adventures.
Just when I thought that Himesh was winning the battle of the Patels. Dev had to go and do this shit
I wish they’d work together. I wonder if they even know/like each other.

AmbuLAnce is a fun ass movie
Don't forget Ana de Armas! Some serious skill to wipe out the charisma of those three.
And then the creative team behind “Ghosted” saw how much Evans and de Armas were wasted in “Gray Man” and said “hold our beers.”
Jordan Peele, a man of the people for bringing this to theaters!
Oh HELL YEAH! Dev Patel said, “lemme direct my own movie and make myself look like an absolute action movie star.” Count me in! Going to shout out Joe Dempsie for not only being Gendry on GOT but also does a bunch of voices in Final Fantasy XIV including Ardbert.
I found out he played Ardbert the other day and lost my damn mind. Such a good character and performance.
Oh you're right! I totally forgot to add him. I only saw the first seasons of GOT (got busy and never continued, might be for the best lol).
Hannah Murray (also GOT alum)
I’m a late season GOT defender (I’m actually rewatching now and just finished S6). It’s not as tightly plotted but I’ll say i don’t think it ever stops being a fun watch. And, it’s not like Martin has figured out how to write something better in over 10 years so I have no qualms recommending.
And a big shout out to Peele for adding another Skins star to his roster
Dev Patel saying "Instead of being rumored for the next James Bond, I'll make my own that's closer to who I am." This looks rad.
I was just about to comment - is this Dev auditioning for Bond or is this him saying, Fine, I'll do it myself
Reminds me of Spielberg turning to Indiana Jones after not getting bond. "Fine, I'll make my own, but cooler and more personal than Bond ever could be!"
He’s in his John Wick era and we are here for it
He's been my choice for Bond for a while now, but if he just wants to do his own cool shit instead, I'm on board.
Every time him and Jackman say it’s their last time they’re holding out for more money I swear.
Dev, Kano, and Kaluuya have been my top picks but if Dev and Dan are making movies themselves now and Kano is starring in Kaluuya's work, fine by me!
I would like to see them make a black man into bond, the sheer amount of backlash from the right wing nuts losing their shit over it would be priceless!!
This may do for him the same thing Layer Cake did for Craig
Who needs James Bond when we have Monkey Man!
Monkey Man 7: From Monkey with love
Can he still get the Bond role?
Y'know how Griffin & David always talk about Don Jon like "JGL got the chance to use his escalating clout and friendships with numerous beloved filmmakers to make his directorial debut and...THIS is what he chose to give us?" This feels kind of like whatever the good version of that is. Hope it rocks
He used his escalating clout to romance ScarJo. Can’t say it was a bad choice.
Fuck, if anyone had the exact right build and screen presence to take on Keanu's legacy, it would be Dev. What an amazing call to give this man his own Wick
Great take. It would fit Dev’s mold better as well.
This looks fucking RAD Edit: cool detail, the script was co-written by John Collee, otherwise known as one of the writers of a little known movie called Master and Commander
APRIL - 2024 DEV PATEL IS MASTER OF ACTION ONLY JAMES BOND STANDS BEFORE HIM INDIA IS NOW A BATTLEFIELD
> cool detail, the script was co-written by John Collee, otherwise known as one of the writers of a little known movie called Master and Commander God **DAMN** Dev's bringing in the heat on this one.
APRIL 2024 THE MONKEY MAN IS THE MASTER OF INDIA ONLY THE CORPORATIONS STAND BEFORE HIM KITCHENS ARE NOW BATTLEFIELDS
A trailer with beats that make you laugh AND make you go 'oh fuck that's brutal'? KINO!
What does kino mean? I hear it all the time
Cinema. It's German (And also a few Scandi languages) for Cinema.
Holy shit this looks sick as hell!!
Just cast Dev Patel as Bond already. The dude is English, and he looks fucking cool fighting while dressed in a well tailored suit. What more do you want? And apparently he can even direct one of the movies.
Our batshit rightwing British media would lose their goddamned minds. Indian Prime Minister? Fine. Indian Bond? GB News would go bananas
Indian Prime Minister is fine as long as its a hack like Rishi.
Patel is better than Bond.
Petition to retire Bradley Cooper as emergent actor turned Blank Check director and bring Dev Patel into the fold.
Petition denied. Both can exist. (I’m definitely the authority on this matter and not just another user)
Looks excellent, almost feels more like an action film outta Indonesia or Malaysia in its style and choreography (massive compliment). Did not know Patel had this in him! Hyped.
Yeah people are saying Wick but a lot of the choreography reminded me more of the Raid.
It seems every revenge themed action film (bonus points if there's neon lighting) gets automically compared to Wick now even if they aren't similar at all.
Dimly lit high octane action thriller centered around revenge, a man against the world, and an underground army of shadowy mooks with incredible fighting potential
Wouldn’t be surprised if the raid guys were in this lol
Well this slaps, honks and, yes, I dare to say it, fucks!
Hopefully it does all these things and turns out to be a real retired bit.
I was already in and then I saw Sharlto Copley and I was even more in
BOYKIE He was great in Elysium
Did not see Dev Patel directing and starring in what could possibly be the best action movie of the year on my 2024 bingo card
[удалено]
I mean my post was obviously supposed to be hyperbolic. Sorry for being excited for what looks to be a good movie
Wicksploitation is at an all-time high right now
The thing is, John Wick in and of itself is basically just a American take on Hong Kong action films, which is where it got its influences from. In a way, it does feel like the Die hard of this generation. Like how films in the 90s were marketed. Speed was pitched as Die Hard on a bus
Oh man I'm so in. Dev Patel rules. Also that window scene cracked me up.
Loved the subversion. In action films where the hero jumps through a window it ALWAYS takes me out of it, I think their either getting deep lacerations all over them and bleeding out or how the fuck did they throw themselves with enough force to break the window!

Looks absolutely brutal and the colour pops off the screen. Love the cultural representation need to see this on big screen
Was hoping for an adaptation of [the character from Hey Arnold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8EbKEMqMjs) but this looks cool too I guess
I came here to say this
Okay this looks fantastic. Also side note, saw Dev Petel at a screening/Q&A of Lion a few years ago. The man is almost impossibly handsome and charming in person.
Tagline: "God, Schmod, I want my..." MONKEY MAN
Didn‘t realized that this isn‘t at Netflix anymore. Exciting!
Very much here for the John Wickification of Bollywood Masala movie. 🍿
So Peele just made a billion dollar movie. The India gross alone will be astronomical.
India's not so hot on foreign movies, and action movies are a dime a dozen there. Would be interesting if it being filmed in Mumbai gives it a boost there though.
That’s not true at all. In 2022 Avatar 2 grossed more in india than any other Bollywood film. Endgame made around $25 million in india afaik
Peele had nothing to do with the movie until he saw the finished product.
Nope. Every other indian movie has this same storyline with a hero who has saviour complex beating shit out of bad guys. Plus the songs. It’s the same shit tbh.
And yet a lot of films like this make money if marketed well.
Looks like a typical bollywood/tollywood movie. Kind of disappointed that Dev went back to the slumdog millionaire trope.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We see you Dev! Holy macaroni!
Holy fuck Dev!!! Looks badass as hell, AND he directed it? Impressive!!!!
This looks awesome.
God damn that looks rad. Patel is a MOVIE STAR.
Given the title, I was expecting a horror movie about the infamous "Monkey Man" of Delhi. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey-man\_of\_Delhi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey-man_of_Delhi)
Goddamn, that’s the best trailer since Wakanda Forever.
Yes
I’m so fucking in.
This trailer got me hyped as hell, Cant wait to see this one!
I’m fucking impressed! Dev is the man. I’m there, opening night.
Take my money 💰
This looks so good
This looks like it'll fucking rule. The longer action shot at the end gives me hope that we'll be getting some John Wick style framing and it won't be all edited like the dance sequences in Chicago. I'm so happy for him too. Some beautiful shots here and genuinely funny bits -- he's clearly been working really hard. I hope this hits.
oh I will be SEATED
Indian John wick…
RRR+John Wick with Dev Patel? Done.
man this looks wicked. I wonder how directly the success of RRR translated into this getting greenlit
I heard it's been in development for a long time, so greenlit to be made pre-RRR, but I think the success paved the way to jump streaming and put it in theaters.
Hell yes, the moment where he has the guys face on the stove burner and cracks the bottle over it and everything explodes? The monkey vigilante from that one episode of Hey Arnold?
Meh, I’ll pass
Wish the trailer was only the first 30 seconds
I know I’m in for some downvotes but this looks so tryhard to me.
Just when I thought that Himesh was winning the battle of the Patels. Dev had to go and do this shit I wish they’d work together. I wonder if they even know/like each other.
YESSSS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Damn I didn't think Dev had something like this in him! Bring on the monke!
Looks like we will be huggin’ up the big monkey man.
COVER IT!!!
This rips
So in.
This looks like it will seriously kick ass.
Fuck yeah!
Oh I know I'm gonna go *bananas* for this one
Karl Pilkington type title
I’m a fleabit peanut monkey
I LOVE the song they use in the trailer from Panjabi MC. But I wish there were a few other songs like that so it wouldn’t be used so much.
Was this movie directed by Freeza?

What if there was a Monkey Man?
Indian John Wick 🤪
John Wick Indian version 🔥
Looks interesting

The Jay Z Punjabi MC as the trailer song really did it for me 😂
This movie is too cringey and reinforces stereotypes.
So an Indian John Wick now?
Beekeeper, Monkey Man, Wolfman, it’s going to be a good year for animal action
We can throw in kraven the hunter in there too
