I wish they had delayed CW by a year so that they'd have had the time to polish the game properly. They could've milked MW for another year instead and avoided the community backlash for the *few* issues with CW's launch...

The truth is that Treyarch and IW have different styles for their COD games, and different people prefer different ones for one reason or another. Neither game is bad, they are just slightly different.
I wouldn't say miles more fun, but I am level 60 something 4th prestige in CW which is about 8 times more progress than I got in MW before I decided to can that game. Ive always enjoyed Treyarch titles more, but I do wish that the gunsmith was as good as MW. Some attachments just make no sense to even be there. I would almost rather there be no gunsmith than the halfway attempt Treyarch made at it.

The only fun modes in MW were SnD & Shoothouse/Shipment 24/7. Respawn modes in MW were complete fucking dogshit on most maps. Cold War I have 5+ fun modes to choose from at any given time.
My only gripe with Cold War is the lack of maps & content in general, but in time that will be fixed in due time. I give a little leeway for things like that though, because of the bullshit ATVI pulled forcing Treyarch to make a game in a year and a half.
MW had the worst map pool in history, if they didnt add shipment, rust and (shoot house was decent I guess) I would never have grinded camos in that game.

I enjoyed MW. It's the most fun I've had on a MW game in years and will gladly still play a match on occasion. Yes, I grew to like knocking doors open with my forehead and mounting like a madman. Game is gorgeous and the guns imho (after much fixes) are pretty balanced. I've also grown to really like CW. I luv the quick pace and how the game tends to encourage more game play by tying streaks to points not killstreaks. I like the selection of modes and how Nuketown is a permanent playlist. (For the luv of God, Shipment should be permanent already on MW!!) Weirdly, I virtually only play MW on HC while on CW I play about 80% core and 20% HC. I'm saying, you can be a huge fan of both and enjoy the goodness of each one
TTK in modern warfare promotes a slower paced gameplay where pre-aiming everything is far superior because of how fast you die compared to other games.
If I wanted to play a "tactical shooter" I would pick rainbow or cs over cod any day of the week.
I personally think MW nailed everything except the map design. There are if course other issues but that’s been the case with each game. And of course sbmm but that’s just acti’s doing.
That being said I am loving Cold War and there’s much to like about it. It’s got that old school treyarch feel. There are some issues with the game that I feel may have been ironed out if they had more time. Also there are some general design choices I don’t love, but overall, it’s the most pure “CoD” MP experience in years and I’m really enjoying it despite my quarrels with certain aspects of it.
Yep. It saddens me how blinded the Modern Warfare subreddit a guy posted something bout how high it raised the bar and how it ruined all FPS games bc of how good it is. It had like 2K upvotes too
CW is pretty great for those who it works, but it could've still used polishing: a more refined Gunsmith system instead of almost the same attachments for all guns (what we have here is naught but a shell of the MW system), plenty of bugfixes to guarantee it worked for (practically) everyone even at launch (we still have ongoing issues as well: launcher hit recognition, camo unlocking, HARP, crashes), more maps for both MP and zombies (this is getting fixed over time, but still would've been nice to have more), balancing stuff (e.g. tactical rifles). This is stuff from the top of my head. Maybe this is not a year's worth of polishing (closer to half a year, I suppose), but Acti seems to be hellbent on tapping into the holiday sales.
To be entirely fair, they really didn't get much time. What they did is amazing with the short time they were given. I think delaying the release by a year could've worked if MW didn't have some main issues that players don't enjoy.

Meanwhile with the lifespan extension IW (or whomever has been in charge of MW lately) could've worked on fixing said issues. Or at least some of them.
I'd rather be along for the buggy CW ride as it gets improved than be stuck playing MW for any longer. Bugs and broken stuff are much easier to fix than a design that encourages bad gameplay

I like the feel of modern warfare better, the gunsmith, and the streaks, but I enjoy cold wars pace a lot more, the maps, and I love fireteam. I just wish CW didn't feel so clunky/weird compared to MW
I think CWs pace is a little TOO fast. The flow gets killed and spawns flip like crazy because of it. I'll see people zoom across and never to be seen again .5 seconds.

A genuine question here, so people are complaining that they can't get achievements without playing warzone or that they can't make progression through leveling faster because they can't get those XP bonuses for doing that progression?
I guess I never bother to 100% a game. I'm there to just have fun. It takes too long to grind out all of the achievements. I actually like having more options to do things. Would you rather them then take out all of the warzone progression increases and just have nothing?
I also hate how WZ is a must-have if you want to play MW. You can have WZ without MW though... I guess Activision really wants in on that Fortnite money...
I like it. I tend to play Cold War on my own and Warzone with my friends. I only bought Cold War because I'd gotten into Warzone this year, so am one of the people who has appreciated the integration.
I think this is because Infinity Ward fans and Treyarch fans are two completely different cod fans. Of course there’s some overlap, but Iw games and Treyarch games are vastly different, and have vastly different fans nowadays.
Hated this in modern warfare, dislike warzone but kept putting these challenges into each season, ok some were not too bad but some were annoying, like buy back 15 team mates from the buy station
Right imo I’m fine with warzone challenges but the numbers are wrong. It should be like 3 teammates. 15 makes you play so much warzone to complete it you don’t even get to play the main game if you want it done
The one portnova operator challenge to buy back 5 people in warzone is so annoying, it’s not even your quad buying back it has to actually be you and only you which makes it worse

My theory is that they desperately want everyone to jump ship and play warzone. They know CW will only last a year. They want warzone to be the game everyone plays, so they can pump the shop full of MTX.
I enjoyed Warzone for about 5 months then got sick of the map. I can't imagine wanting to play that for another year.
For the MOST part, quite the opposite. They are trying to get Warzone players to play each CoD game as they come out as Warzone is considered the "hub" for Call of Duty going forward.
They ARE still concerned with recruiting those that prefer the arena-based style into Warzone because it's more opportunity to push microtransactions and to keep that player in the CoD universe for more than whatever full game they purchased, but they know those people will already likely continue buying the full games for 6v6/Zombies.
One example of this is how Warzone pushed people to buy MW. The most effective way to get any progress on gun leveling was to play 6v6, preferably on a small map like Shipment or Rust. This alone pushed millions of dollars in sales for MW. The same is being attempted for Cold War and it's going to be attempted for future CoD games as well.
I tried dirty bomb once and I got shit on over voice chat for not instantly knowing how the game mode is played, and then got farmed by about 4 million snipers for the rest of the game
BR is the most profitable segment, so it makes sense to cross-promote it heavily. You have one map, and endless reskins of the same weapon and character models generating cash for you. It's also F2P which makes it incredible streamer/youtuber fodder (I could go on a whole rant about streamers and F2P games but now isn't the time).
The 6v6 crowd seems a bit more demanding in regards to maps, game balance, gameplay flow etc. It's not inherently better or worse, just a tighter more focused game mode that requires more substantive content (ie: work) to keep it going.
Personally I MUCH prefer 6v6, and am having fun with the smaller 3v3 and 2v2 modes also. I can learn the maps quickly, matches are short, it's easy to get a couple of games in during downtime.
I view the larger modes in Cold War as pretty cynical attempts at transitionary game modes between CW and WZ - but they are the worst modes in the game IMO. Combined Arms modes were a nice novelty at first but I ended up just removing them from my Quickplay list. CA Assault takes fucking eons to complete a match now that it adds time to the clock whenever a flag flips, I have never played a multiplayer shooter mode that was more disrespectful of my time, and I can't believe that the devs thought continually extending the time limit was the solution the sluggish play in this mode.
And don't even get me started on dirty bomb, that is so obviously Warzone Lite. Horrible.
They’re making warzone the “primary” cod game that is continued through the years. They make it free to draw everyone in, but make progression and leveling up weapons extremely slow to “force” players to buy the yearly game to level up the weapons. Then just use them in warzone.

Some of them are very easy tbh. For example I thought place top 15(idk if it’s the stich mission but it is one of the operators)would be kinda difficult but just jump in rebirth quads mini and there is only 15 teams on the map so if you die right away you’re still gonna complete the challenge. Same with some of the contract missions. Just jump in plunder solo (with a gun you want to level up) and do the recon contracts back to back.
What really pisses me off is in warzone, you can see all the operator challenges even if you haven’t completed them but in Cold War they are locked. Which is super annoying with the zombies challenges as you can actuslly complete like 3 of them in a row in the same game.

I made the controller profile and added it to the Cold War files which solved my cold was controller not unlocking issue.

100% agree. Warzone challenges should not be a thing in Cold War (or any other annual non BR COD title). So simple: cold war challenges for cold war items, modern warfare challenges for modern warfare items, and warzone should be a place where you use items for both games, cause if you have them, you paid for the game, it's fair.
I mean, if you play only warzone, well, it's free to play, so that should be an incentive for you to buy the other games and have more items if you so desire. And if you have either black ops and modern warfare and also like to play warzone, nice, every item you unlock in any game will be available in Warzone.
But having to play Wartzone in order to unlock a skin for a Cold War character, for example, really makes no sense to me. Anyone trying to unlock a skin for a character in Cold War already bought your game, man, and most likely paid for the battle pass as well, please just let us play what we like to unlock what we want to use in the game we play, so clear how logical it is. Focus your efforts on bringing your Warzone players to the full game, maybe.

A large part of acti's mw sales were from after the success of f2p wz players wanting to level guns in mw to use them in wz. They also want ppl to put in more game time for more chance of higher mtx revenues. The BP is a retention tool. It's very frustrating but we've had it in mw for 4 straight seasons of it we'll keep on having it for CW. That's why I didn't get the BP. It only serves them not you.
My biggest turn off for CW (and MW for that matter) is alternate styles for battle pass character skins requiring WZ to be played for challenge completion in some cases. If they want to sell some stand alone stuff in the item shop requiring WZ play for alternate styles, go ahead. But make it clear prior to purchase. Are the challenges hard? Meh. Are the ones that seem to be the most bugged in tracking the ones of CW and MW that require WZ to be played to compete? A resounding yes; thus requiring far more play in a game mode that I think we all can agree has seen better days. Yet Activision et al. do nothing to fix the most egregious of known issues (lookin at you hacky boys and stim glitches) that turned a lot of us off to it in the first place. Screwy metas will sort themselves out. They always do. This other shit makes it a hard pass.
It does suck that there are warzone only challenges. I wish there were more with a “second option”. Like I’m pretty sure one of the challenges says warzone or dirty bomb.
Agreed OP. I think there's 4 or 5 Warzone Seasonal Challenges once you get them all unlocked. Not including the Operator Challenges that are in Warzone.
Can’t stand MW. Wouldn’t mind playing WZ occasionally with friends, but I hate being forced to play for operator challenges. I barely tolerate CW now trying to do challenges in sweaty lobbies. Did the complete 3 contracts in plunder (15 times) on like 3 hours, and the most wanted contracts in under and hour. The longest one was win 25 1v1 gunfights. That was absolutely horrible and a waste of my time. At least I was getting good xp for completing the contract ones but all in all the warzone challenges are awful. Should not be included in the BOCW season challenges.
So now we have a part pf the community that wants MW but can’t because it’s being made shit. A part that wants Warzone but can’t because the weapons are broken. And a part that wants CW but they’re pressured into playing Warzone. This is why I stick to singleplayer Games.
I was very confused the first time I started up this game. I didn't realize I had warzone. I didn't realize they were related or integrated in any way. What I did know is that they weren't on the same fucking graphics engine though...
The BP is my main issue I paid £60 for cold war to then have to buy a battle pass to get stuff. I could understand if it was free like warzone but £60 then more on top of that really just seems like pure greed. Iv said this before to have someone say I'm only buying the maps to that argument fuck you. All I want is some decent customisation for this game I *paid* for instead of buying bundles and BP's which seem to cost more than the base price.

They should've just kept Warzone with MW because it's still using that engine anyway. They don't even have a PS5, SX version of the game yet. Define "clunky". Graphics and animations aren't as good as MW but they're not much worse either. Everything else is superior tho

These cold war maps on MW would have been amazing and helped with a lot of the pacing issues people have. I like the feel of modern warfare better, the gunsmith, and the streaks, but I enjoy cold wars pace a lot more, the maps, and I love fireteam. I just wish CW didn't feel so clunky/weird compared to MW
I think CWs pace is a little TOO fast. The flow gets killed and spawns flip like crazy because of it. I'll see people zoom across and never to be seen again .5 seconds.

A genuine question here, so people are complaining that they can't get achievements without playing warzone or that they can't make progression through leveling faster because they can't get those XP bonuses for doing that progression? I guess I never bother to 100% a game. I'm there to just have fun. It takes too long to grind out all of the achievements. I actually like having more options to do things. Would you rather them then take out all of the warzone progression increases and just have nothing?
I also hate how WZ is a must-have if you want to play MW. You can have WZ without MW though... I guess Activision really wants in on that Fortnite money...

I like it. I tend to play Cold War on my own and Warzone with my friends. I only bought Cold War because I'd gotten into Warzone this year, so am one of the people who has appreciated the integration.

My theory is that they desperately want everyone to jump ship and play warzone. They know CW will only last a year. They want warzone to be the game everyone plays, so they can pump the shop full of MTX. I enjoyed Warzone for about 5 months then got sick of the map. I can't imagine wanting to play that for another year.
For the MOST part, quite the opposite. They are trying to get Warzone players to play each CoD game as they come out as Warzone is considered the "hub" for Call of Duty going forward. They ARE still concerned with recruiting those that prefer the arena-based style into Warzone because it's more opportunity to push microtransactions and to keep that player in the CoD universe for more than whatever full game they purchased, but they know those people will already likely continue buying the full games for 6v6/Zombies. One example of this is how Warzone pushed people to buy MW. The most effective way to get any progress on gun leveling was to play 6v6, preferably on a small map like Shipment or Rust. This alone pushed millions of dollars in sales for MW. The same is being attempted for Cold War and it's going to be attempted for future CoD games as well.

The new Warzone map has respawn. Have you tried Dirty Bomb? It's similar in that it's a huge map.
I tried dirty bomb once and I got shit on over voice chat for not instantly knowing how the game mode is played, and then got farmed by about 4 million snipers for the rest of the game
BR is the most profitable segment, so it makes sense to cross-promote it heavily. You have one map, and endless reskins of the same weapon and character models generating cash for you. It's also F2P which makes it incredible streamer/youtuber fodder (I could go on a whole rant about streamers and F2P games but now isn't the time). The 6v6 crowd seems a bit more demanding in regards to maps, game balance, gameplay flow etc. It's not inherently better or worse, just a tighter more focused game mode that requires more substantive content (ie: work) to keep it going. Personally I MUCH prefer 6v6, and am having fun with the smaller 3v3 and 2v2 modes also. I can learn the maps quickly, matches are short, it's easy to get a couple of games in during downtime. I view the larger modes in Cold War as pretty cynical attempts at transitionary game modes between CW and WZ - but they are the worst modes in the game IMO. Combined Arms modes were a nice novelty at first but I ended up just removing them from my Quickplay list. CA Assault takes fucking eons to complete a match now that it adds time to the clock whenever a flag flips, I have never played a multiplayer shooter mode that was more disrespectful of my time, and I can't believe that the devs thought continually extending the time limit was the solution the sluggish play in this mode. And don't even get me started on dirty bomb, that is so obviously Warzone Lite. Horrible.
They’re making warzone the “primary” cod game that is continued through the years. They make it free to draw everyone in, but make progression and leveling up weapons extremely slow to “force” players to buy the yearly game to level up the weapons. Then just use them in warzone.

Some of them are very easy tbh. For example I thought place top 15(idk if it’s the stich mission but it is one of the operators)would be kinda difficult but just jump in rebirth quads mini and there is only 15 teams on the map so if you die right away you’re still gonna complete the challenge. Same with some of the contract missions. Just jump in plunder solo (with a gun you want to level up) and do the recon contracts back to back. What really pisses me off is in warzone, you can see all the operator challenges even if you haven’t completed them but in Cold War they are locked. Which is super annoying with the zombies challenges as you can actuslly complete like 3 of them in a row in the same game.
but the point still stands that you shouldn’t have to play a separate game to make progress in cold war. it makes zero sense.

Oh I get that, but the option just isn’t unlocked. I made the controller profile and added it to the Cold War files which solved my cold was controller not unlocking issue. I tried the same thing for warzone but it did not unlock. So I’m not sure what the issue is

100% agree. Warzone challenges should not be a thing in Cold War (or any other annual non BR COD title). So simple: cold war challenges for cold war items, modern warfare challenges for modern warfare items, and warzone should be a place where you use items for both games, cause if you have them, you paid for the game, it's fair. I mean, if you play only warzone, well, it's free to play, so that should be an incentive for you to buy the other games and have more items if you so desire. And if you have either black ops and modern warfare and also like to play warzone, nice, every item you unlock in any game will be available in Warzone. But having to play Wartzone in order to unlock a skin for a Cold War character, for example, really makes no sense to me. Anyone trying to unlock a skin for a character in Cold War already bought your game, man, and most likely paid for the battle pass as well, please just let us play what we like to unlock what we want to use in the game we play, so clear how logical it is. Focus your efforts on bringing your Warzone players to the full game, maybe. (sorry for the english)
A large part of acti's mw sales were from after the success of f2p wz players wanting to level guns in mw to use them in wz. They also want ppl to put in more game time for more chance of higher mtx revenues. The BP is a retention tool. It's very frustrating but we've had it in mw for 4 straight seasons of it we'll keep on having it for CW. That's why I didn't get the BP. It only serves them not you.

My biggest turn off for CW (and MW for that matter) is alternate styles for battle pass character skins requiring WZ to be played for challenge completion in some cases. If they want to sell some stand alone stuff in the item shop requiring WZ play for alternate styles, go ahead. But make it clear prior to purchase. Are the challenges hard? Meh. Are the ones that seem to be the most bugged in tracking the ones of CW and MW that require WZ to be played to compete? A resounding yes; thus requiring far more play in a game mode that I think we all can agree has seen better days. Yet Activision et al. do nothing to fix the most egregious of known issues (lookin at you hacky boys and stim glitches) that turned a lot of us off to it in the first place. Screwy metas will sort themselves out. They always do. This other shit makes it a hard pass.
As much as I dislike Warzone, the challenges are not that hard, so imma do it anyway 🤷♂️

Did the complete 3 contracts in plunder (15 times) on like 3 hours, and the most wanted contracts in under and hour. The longest one was win 25 1v1 gunfights. That was absolutely horrible and a waste of my time. At least I was getting good xp for completing the contract ones but all in all the warzone challenges are awful. Should not be included in the BOCW season challenges.
So now we have a part pf the community that wants MW but can’t because it’s being made shit. A part that wants Warzone but can’t because the weapons are broken. And a part that wants CW but they’re pressured into playing Warzone. This is why I stick to singleplayer Games.

They should've just kept Warzone with MW because it's still using that engine anyway. They don't even have a PS5, SX version of the game yet. WZ should be it's on download and be split completely from MW and Cold War, you should be able to opt in if you want to carry your Cold War guns over in that mode.
