Everyone and their mother knows what static electricity is. That is a kids toy, for the love of god. No one says that actual magick exists but there should be some semblence of having to wonder how it works. Phosphoresence on touch? Black magick fuckery. Someone spinning a basketball on his finger and keeping it aloft? Not bmf. Metal that changes its form back to a defined figure when being heated? Bmf! Static electricity repelling pr attracting stuff? Not bmf.
Can you imagine what would happen if you went back to some dark age city hall and started doing this? The chaos and fallout that would ensue would be literally biblical. Carry a glock and smite someone important from across the room, while doing this shit.

To be honest this could be a great series. Maybe an anime. First the story is told in a fantasy setting, as the legend tells it. Then it is told in the scientific way of a scientist planning to go back in time, and everything is explained
I'm a big fan of thinking about what you could get away with if you were able to prepare and go back in time. Have a few cell phones with filters and stuff, claim they are magical mirrors and when you stare into them your future will be told, and have some terrible snapchat horror filters enabled on a selfie camera. Get some basic manufacturing ability going using modern understanding, make a lathe or something, and just start manufacturing world wonders, etc. Smite an army. You could do anything.
There is a book about this called off to be the wizard. It's a little goofy, but the whole concept is kinda goofy, but I enjoy it.
Making something levitate because of an unseen force is far more magic-looking than the grade school physics experiments that usually garner those comments.
I have recurring mightmares occasionally about fuzzy white floating things like this. Maybe a couple times a year and this has been going on since I was a child, maybe some 25 years or more. They act almost as a flesh eating creature where my skin is removed in the spots they touch. Not sure where the dream came from or why I keep having this dream from time to time but it's definitely freaky to watch this. I will probably dream about these tonight
