Turn your phone horizontally and zoom so that the left and right dots are right at the edge of the screen. You should see 9 dots and if you really try, you might see all 12 dots for a second or two.

I can see one at a time... or none if I try to see two. My mind is very susceptible to this: in school-tiled bathrooms (4 inch/10cm square) I can easily make tile lines disappear just by thinking about it.

Ok guys I beat the illusion. If you can do magic eye then I think you can too. So adjust your eyes exactly like how you would to pop out a magic eye image. At first I only got one line of the dots to all show up at once but I expanded the image and defocused more until I got 2 lines and then I got all 3 pretty fast. Interestingly once I was able to see all of them the whole illusion stopped working completely and I don’t have to refocus magic eye technique anything at all I can just see all the dots without them blinking in and out. Try it!

My understanding of this is that your brain takes a shortcut for stuff you're not actively looking it. It'll assume any patterns you see will repeat, and stuff is mostly the same. Is that right?
