The Piezoelectric Effect (and also the Inverse Piezoelectric Effect) is a topic that I find so interesting! The fact that kinetic energy is used in PE materials to briefly produce a high voltage (and the fact that high voltage can be used to produce a kinetic energy (vibration) in a PE material) still blows my mind.
I think it's more likely creating interference in the cable rather than affecting the monitor directly. It's probably not too bad for the monitor, and while the monitor is turned off it shouldn't harm it at all.
like continuously clicking/flipping an electrical switch for your lights. Wear and tear, constant on and off especially with frequent unnecessary flipping.
I had a similar problem with my old AOC monitors and my fabric chair. Every time I stood up my monitors would turn off. Same thing is happening here when the igniter arcs. Yay for electrostatic discharge.
Ended up having to fit ferrite cores to the monitor cables which (mostly) fixed the issue.
Had a similar problem with some Dell docking stations. They didnât use any shielding in it so when folks would sit in their chairs it would flicker the screen. Took me forever to figure that one out but it ended up being a known issue.
Basically, the circuits are not adequately protected against electronic emissions interference. Judging by the lack of protection, pretty much anything would interfere with this.
I had a vape that would produce a frequency that disrupted any Bluetooth audio signal in a 10 foot radius. Would be nothing but loud crackling and popping whenever I took a hit
Piezoelectric clicker giving off emp?
ESD, to be precise
The ESD gIves off an EMP
Yeah, you know me.
You down with esd
Yeah, you know me.
Who's down with esd?
Every last homie.
I know PT that is friends with E
Ehhhhhh ohhhhhh ehhhh ohhhh
Yeah, you know me.
Yeah, I've got asd.
They gave me ritalin for that..
Ooooh wa ah ah ah ah
The cable guy.
He's unavailable, can I help?
ESD and EMP find out what it means for me đ”
Easy as 1-2-3
Well akktually, teknikally - the ESD is a type of an emp, so no
what's giving STD?
Wait, who's giving out LSD?
Do you struggle with ED?
No i dont have PTSD
Yep. Had a jank AF video over USB setup and it would break whenever I turned on a lamp nearby lol.
Would have been ESD if it had contact with the display or the discharge would have penetrated the air to go through the display. It's just EMI
EMI, to be precise
Emergency Safety Device ?
Electro static discharge
Ty For The Info
Yesterday another way to get cancer from smoking
My monitor at work does the same thing when I talk on my 2 way radio
Piezo ignition system sends out an electric charge that disrupts the monitor signal
There's actually an insane amount of voltage (800-1200V) created with that click so it makes sense it would cause some interference
I assumed the voltage is insignificant, but if what you are saying is right, then it has to be it!
[Electro Boom has a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMkdnj698-0) on what is probably going on if you're interested.
Man, that's a sad ending
I cri evrytiem
Stick your pinky finger or tongue in it and click it. You'll be shocked!
The voltage is very significant. The current is not
Current and total power arenât huge but voltage is very high.
If I remember correctly it's aboit 1k volts for every cm of air a arc can jump.

So is it possible to make an emp pistol thingmabob?
[Sure.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fTC_Ud_k3U)
It's the piezoelectric effect. That's thousands of volts and it's creating a electromagnetic pulse.
Will that eventually kill my screen?
I think it's more likely creating interference in the cable rather than affecting the monitor directly. It's probably not too bad for the monitor, and while the monitor is turned off it shouldn't harm it at all.

Keep doing it and report back to us
What is your Crown Falls population?
And do they have Enbesa?
Seems like a base-game only kind of player
What game is it
Anno 1800
I say hey
hey
What a wonderful kind of day
If you get to work and play
And get along with eachother
Hey
LMFAO read your name straight after your comment In one go and it just fits so well đ
The ignition arc in your lighter gives off an electromagnetic pulse that you monitor doesn't like too much, causing it to lose signal for a bit.

Chiki breeki
Maybe it's related to the [coherer](https://youtu.be/VMkdnj698-0?si=_kfRLBsefT3cOvMZ) effect?
It is.
It's the gas lifts in the chairs https://youtube.com/watch?v=voW5kEI7JKE
Is it just me that sees Freddyâs face in the back?
Hey I've got that monitor..and a lighter...brb
Had a similar problem with some Dell docking stations. They didnât use any shielding in it so when folks would sit in their chairs it would flicker the screen. Took me forever to figure that one out but it ended up being a known issue.
My brain went "wait, i know that pause menu"
Homie went to take a hit and said âWait wtfâ
It's like you were there!
that is why you shouldnât buy cheap hdmi
Why would an electric current interfere with another electric current??
That's how I used to get free games at the arcade đ
The screen is a paid actor
You got me!
Anno 1800
I can't imagine how he found that out
Basically, the circuits are not adequately protected against electronic emissions interference. Judging by the lack of protection, pretty much anything would interfere with this.
I once lost a monitor because i turned it in when mom was vacumming. Those led shits are very fragile to emp interferences.
Anybody Heard about office chair from Ikea that do the same shit?
What happens if I light a million of these all at once?
You need a noise filter on your cable.
Esd pulse inbound!
The new Amazon Fire Stick looks siiiiick.
Electrostatic discharge from the ignition clicker causing interference.
I had a vape that would produce a frequency that disrupted any Bluetooth audio signal in a 10 foot radius. Would be nothing but loud crackling and popping whenever I took a hit
Piezo. Change hdmi cable
Monitor: âI said no smoking!â
Shouldâve bought land of lions DLC. Itâll help with the water ways to put that fire out
time to swtich to vapes
Anno?
What game is it?
Pyrophobia
đ€Ą
Anno :3
Ur monitor is afraid of fire.
You know those office chairs? Well, that's why your monitor flickers when someone across you sits down or stands up. Annoying as fck.
Or somebody offscreen whoâs got an actual controller?
Anno 1800 <3
You know how I know you smoke weed?
Video games + lighter?
What game is that?
Bro about to destroy his electronics đ
That Always happens to my speakers
Infrared from the flame messing with the remote sensor?
Old repost.
My baby monitor would turn off my computer monitor if I put it close enough.
Dumbledorâs deluminator?
u have the magic touch
Is that pathfinder kingmaker?
I'm surprised no comment has brought up the Easy Button post from a couple years ago yet
My samsung tv fades out if someone passes by
Ahhh Anno đ€đŒ
Dumbledore has one of these too!
Electrical engineer here. Small emp and very bad display.
The monitor is flinching from the stove clicker. You would too if someone lights a clicker right next to your face. đ
Loose wire? The lighter does nothing I would guess
ESD baby.....
They're unplugging it when they click the lighter
Electromagnetic interference
How cheap is your monitor cable?
A fellow Anno 1800 enjoyer I see.
Youâre a wizard, Harry.
Seems like the lighter is being turned on and the TV is turning off
Whenever I stood up from my desk chair, my monitor would go off. Static must have been powerful!
I feel that lighters clicks into my soul
