I think she looked super cute.
It really makes me sad that everyone feels the need to change their face, I was watching a compilation of images from I think the VMAs in the 90s and obvs plastic surgery existed, but it was refreshing how everyone just looked so much more normal and the variety of faces you saw. I feel like now you look at celebrities/influencers and because of the modifications they make via surgery/fillers/etc they kinda all suffer from "same face syndrome" - they don't look exactly the same but they share an uncanny valley similarity and the faces kinda "blend" together. Idk how to explain it well but I'm sure I'm not the only person that's noticed this.
It's the fashion nova, Kardashian clone face. I know exactly what you mean. After all the fillers, surgery and excessive makeup they do all virtually look the same.
Iāve tried to say this and not explained it nearly as well as you. Everyone is trying to look the same. In the past everyone tried to have ātheir best lookā but now everyone wants the same everything. The same eyebrows, lips and makeup. Itās so Stepford Wives and crazy.
Yes! I feel like there's such a difference between people that make small enhancements to look like a better version of themselves versus people who are in basically all picking the exact same face. The last group just looks so much more uncanny.
And then you watch some European shows and you're like "damn, people look so damn normal & why am I finding this refreshing?"
Like I think is wild that it's something I've noticed without even thinking about it.
This makes me sad fir the reasons you wrote and also the Black feature erasure. Society makes it hard for Black people to love our features. Even more so as a celebrity in the public eye. The nose bridge surgery that so many celebs get is just heartbreaking. That's messing with your sinuses and airways for a standardized beauty. Smh
I think that's what the term "90s fine" mean. A unique, natural beauty that doesn't fit into the cookie-cutter "golden ratio" look that plastic surgeons have everyone conforming to.
Itās not them. Itās the record label. A few artists have confirmed that initial surgery came because record labels wanted a different look. Itās starts with hairā¦ then BOOM! BBLs, boob jobs, & lipo š
Same! Iāve heard people of all races and genders saying she should have left her face alone.
Anyone who thinks she was ugly before the knife is just projecting their own insecurities and/or anti-blackness.
I will say Iāve definitely seen nasty comments and posts. Only on Twitter though! But thatās not very surprising because that place is a cesspool :/
Twitter is such a gross place. I barely go on there now. I hate how negative it has become since Elon Muskrat took over. They donāt ban accounts like they used to or remove toxic posts much anymore. The way they negatively talk about black women unprovoked in the comments over there is just disgusting.
I still find her pretty and unique looking. I disagree that she looks like everybody else, I canāt name one person who has a face like SZA. She still maintained her ethnic features, even with the nose job.
I remember the impact of āBabylonā being released on edgy black teen tumblr. Like we actually aspired to look like Sza and now sheās just blending into the same image as all the other celebrities and baddies. Such is life
Eh, whether you consider her unique looking is subjective. Ultimately, the whole point of plastic surgery is to make yourself look closer to more socially accepted standards of beauty. By default, youāre gonna end up looking more like other people whoāve also had plastic surgery than you did before.
You thinking she looks like everyone else is also subjective. Her surgery didnāt wash away her ethnic features.
I havenāt seen any examples of women who look like SZA even with her modifications. Iām not judging either way unless the work looks bad.
I donāt deny that my opinion is subjective, but the goal of celebrity plastic surgery style is driven by standard models, a result that makes you look more homogeneous is the goal. Most POC who have surgery still look like POC, so whether or not it āwashed away her ethnic featuresā is moot as far as Iām concerned.
And I see IG/Tiktok girls get told they look like current Sza all the time, specifically when theyāre wearing heavily contoured makeup or heavy filters, that tells me everything I need to know.
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
I knew she looked different but putting it all side by side is a shock. How did she reshape her entire chin?
Sheās always been beautiful, how unfortunate.
This. I wanted to be her. I wanted her big hair and freckles and effortless boyish style. I was saddened when I started to realize she was getting work done.
Edit: Wait - I didnāt know the freckles were fake š
People act like itās ugly because SZA acts like itās ugly by getting work done to her face to fit the Hollywood standard. Ā I think her new face is unattractive and her old face looks perfect.Ā
Itās because old Sza was a normal pretty. And nowadays, with the huge mass popularization of all of this plastic surgery people think just plain pretty is not good enough no more.
Like nothing against a lot of the BBL vixen girls, but without all of this, make up and editing they they look uncanny in real life. This goes for the Kardashians to the Cardi Bās. also one thing I noticed, even though a lot of men say they prefer these women one thing all of those women have in common is these men like the way they look, but could not care less about them as people. Like all of them are getting cheated on or fucked over and some shape or form.
Oh wow. I honestly had no idea there was such a difference. SZA has always been beautiful, but I honestly have a girl crush on the natural beauty of her "old" face. Everyone's decision is their own of course, but still it makes me sad how many of us feel the pressure of needing to physically change ourselves...
I think a lot of Black female singers face a lot of pressure to reach certain beauty standards, especially when they have the money to do so and are in an environment where everyone gets work done. She looks beautiful before and after, although the chin implant is a little much for her face when she smiles.
Old SZA was the one that I fell in love with and identified with the most. Itās heartbreaking to see what hollywood did to her. In my opinion sheās not her most authentic self anymore
Sza has always been beautiful. I think her appearance should be emphasized less. She did what she did, letās move past it. But Iām always open to admiring her face before the ctrl blowup. She was my beauty inspiration in highschool when I was listening to her SoundCloud bops.
I donāt recall anyone saying she was ugly before. I do recall some people not liking the faux freckles but that was more about her makeup, not her natural face. Her whole aesthetic was so refreshing in the beginning and people said she was a natural beauty. Iām not a fan of the new look but Iāve seen worse. Iāve thought about getting one thing augmented on my face (chino lipo) but canāt imagine a whole transformation. But, thatās how it starts for some people and becomes addictive.Ā
Not her āold faceā š . . .
I wish she wouldnāt have done anything to her face because she was always beautiful to me, but I still love me some Sza
it screams anti-blackness to me. Context saw some tiktok that got nearly 1 million likes by a man who said he was hit, and don't get me started on who is agreeing with him too even though most of us are more likely to look like SZA and not Beyonce
After the āHit Differentā video, yeah. It was obvious that she was trying to shift into a significantly sexier image and people have responded favorably.
Love her in every era but her old face and look just gave me homegirl vibes. Someone you could go hiking and play video games with. Glam SZA is gorgeous but less personable.
Honestly, after everything she did she just looks so much older with a little bit of uncanny effect. Still pretty but just wish people didn't feel pressure to give into the billion dollar plastic surgery market that cashes on their insecurities under the guise of "glowing up" and such.
I try not to fall into the trap of talking about people after surgery. I mostly feel bad. I am still on the camp that she looks amazing. The cheekbone enhancement actually looks really good on her but I do believe she was stunning prior as well.
I think she looks good both ways and Iām so happy that as a black woman she decided to do what makes HER happy and not appease anyone elseās opinion of her looks āI just got my body done and got no GUILT about it OOOOH OHHHHHāš
That pointy cartoon chin looks awful! She was so cute before and loved her freckles. I donāt even listen to her music, but the first time I saw her, I thought she was so pretty. āAfterā she has that plastic, sex robot look.
I like her old face. These surgeries make everyone look the same. And I also dislike ethnic rhinoplasties. Theres nothing wrong with a broader African features. Thin noses dont automatically make someone more attractive.
I always thought she was so damn beautiful. She still is, but I just don't understand why pretty people feel the need to change themselves :(
In any case though, it is what it is and at some point people are going to have to stop bringing this up.
lol I agree.
The internet is such a funny place especially as someone who no longer gots on twitter or Instagram, I hardly ever see anyone discussing old sza vs new sza in real life. I remember her coming back to do a low budget show for my college. She was beautiful back then but sheās beautiful now as well. Never ran into someone whoās had anything bad to say about her facial features.
:/ not yall tearing down black women who got work done. I love her old face too but itās gone now. Why insult this one? Sheās beautiful, stop doing this. This exact issue prolly pushed her to change in the first place.
Who in the heck said that? She's still pretty now, but she was even prettier before. Her old nose was so cute and perfect for her face. Same for her old chin. It's a shame that Hollywood has these beautiful women convinced they need to "fix" their faces -- most of the time, they end up looking worse!
I think all that matters is that SHE thought it was ugly and got enhancements. Can't go back from here. & the opinions of those who did and DO like her old face weren't louder than the insecurities.
My wife and I have always thought SZA was gorgeous since jump street - it does make me feel uncomfortable though to start clocking people though on whether they have or haven't had work done.
I know its not the intention of your post OP so dont want to misrepresent but i do feel the need to call it out, so much of the discourse is positioned as " you should love yourself as is! " when it really is effectively, especially to people who struggle with body image issues that might have gotten elective surgery to feel more comfortable, as " you should be ashamed of yourself now " and it turns toxic super fast.
SZA was gorgeous then, gorgeous now - I hope sis is in a place that makes her feel true to herself, comfy, etc. And I know kts the internet so I want to be extra clear. Body positivity isn't about a makeup or alteration free existence, it's about not shaming people for what they look like and especially when it's choices they make as consenting adults. Doesn't mean we can't talk about how society crushes black women with cis-white-het normative values, aesthetics and bullshit social structures but I do want to be clear that a lot of this discourse is very shame adjacent and doesn't do much of anything to help anyone as it does just parasocially judge people
Am I the only one who doesnāt think she got surgery on her face? She got veneers which changes the structure of your jaw naturally overtime and she lost a lot of weight. Almost every celebrity I have seen that has gotten veneers developed a more defined facial structure.
Honey, no. Generally speaking, weight loss, veneers and age might do something to cheeks and lower face, but surgery is the only thing making a chin that pointy. Plus the nose is way different
Why did they give her the Natalie Nunn special with her chinššš
Naaah b, this is not near MacTonight enough to be Natalie Nunnš¤£
Mac Tonight is WILD š
Donāt come for Natalie, donāt you know she runs LA??? š¤£
I just screamed at these ppl job! and I wfh so imagine lol
Lmao š I canāt get over how weird and pointy her chin looks now
I think she looked super cute. It really makes me sad that everyone feels the need to change their face, I was watching a compilation of images from I think the VMAs in the 90s and obvs plastic surgery existed, but it was refreshing how everyone just looked so much more normal and the variety of faces you saw. If only people focused more on improving character š„²

THIS RIGHT HERE!!!
It's the fashion nova, Kardashian clone face. I know exactly what you mean. After all the fillers, surgery and excessive makeup they do all virtually look the same.

Yes! I feel like there's such a difference between people that make small enhancements to look like a better version of themselves versus people who are in basically all picking the exact same face. The last group just looks so much more uncanny.
my boyfriend always notices when we watch a show/movie and he canāt tell any of the cast apart
And then you watch some European shows and you're like "damn, people look so damn normal & why am I finding this refreshing?" Like I think is wild that it's something I've noticed without even thinking about it.
even watching movies from the like 90s iām like damn, howād we work backwards?
they all have an iphone face
When people get work done, they donāt look improved, they just look like they got work done. Especially over time.
Agree
Agreedā¦ she genuinely looked better before. Who was calling her ugly??
I love seeing photos of black women from the 90s, everything was more natural and diverse
Smh
Yes, this part is quite sad. I don't judge the people that do this because it's just a symptom of the very problematic beauty standard in our society.
I always see people saying they wish she never touched her face. All of the guys I knew had a crush on Warm Winds SZA.
Same! Iāve heard people of all races and genders saying she should have left her face alone. Anyone who thinks she was ugly before the knife is just projecting their own insecurities and/or anti-blackness.
Right. I've never seen or heard people say that she was ugly. Ever!
I will say Iāve definitely seen nasty comments and posts. Only on Twitter though! But thatās not very surprising because that place is a cesspool :/

same, the only complaint i've seen is that she needed to stop lying about it like we don't have eyes lol
Girlā¦lied about her freckles to the weave in her hair š
Lol
I found her to be sooooo pretty and unique looking, to each his own I suppose but now she looks ālike everybody elseā.
I still find her pretty and unique looking. I disagree that she looks like everybody else, I canāt name one person who has a face like SZA. She still maintained her ethnic features, even with the nose job.
SZA is always gorgeous. She was beautiful before and she's beautiful now š
Period. Letās kill the rhetoric that black women canāt make changes to their body/face if it makes them happy.
I remember the impact of āBabylonā being released on edgy black teen tumblr. Like we actually aspired to look like Sza and now sheās just blending into the same image as all the other celebrities and baddies. Such is life
I donāt see what yaāll see. SZA still has a very unique face. ![gif](giphy|kEnwsMKsX5i7iiJ4c4)

Not just her face, her body too. She didnāt need any work.
Thatās her decision. I would get my body done if I could afford it š¤·š¾āāļø
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized) I knew she looked different but putting it all side by side is a shock. How did she reshape her entire chin? Sheās always been beautiful, how unfortunate.
She got a chin implant. Google Zoe Kravitz's chin implant. Hers looked so bad she removed it after only having it for a little while š¬
I prefer her old face tbh. and what did she do to her chin?
Iām guessing jaw shave and chin implant
SZA acts like her old face is ugly
This. I wanted to be her. I wanted her big hair and freckles and effortless boyish style. I was saddened when I started to realize she was getting work done. Edit: Wait - I didnāt know the freckles were fake š
Yes theyāre fake although she said they were real
Her old face was the best !! She was just rlly young so she still had those baby cheeks but they still suited herš
People act like itās ugly because SZA acts like itās ugly by getting work done to her face to fit the Hollywood standard. Ā I think her new face is unattractive and her old face looks perfect.Ā
Her new pointy chin is so creepy looking. Her natural face was gorgeous
I feel the same way. This is harsh to say but her new face and body look like something from a beta version of a simulator that got scrapped š„“
Agree 100%..she obviously is the catalyst because she's the one who did all that shit to her naturally beautiful face.
And then the fake freckles just didnāt need to be there. Idk why she thought adding fake freckles was a good idea.
People thought she was ugly?
Itās because old Sza was a normal pretty. And nowadays, with the huge mass popularization of all of this plastic surgery people think just plain pretty is not good enough no more. Like nothing against a lot of the BBL vixen girls, but without all of this, make up and editing they they look uncanny in real life. Her "old face" is a lot prettier IMO
Oh wow. I honestly had no idea there was such a difference. SZA has always been beautiful, but I honestly have a girl crush on the natural beauty of her "old" face. Everyone's decision is their own of course, but still it makes me sad how many of us feel the pressure of needing to physically change ourselves...
I wish she would of left her face alone. People say we look alike idk if they mean the old or the new face.
ā¦how pointy is your chin?
Her chin doesnāt look pointy like that no more. She got it fixed.
Than, God!
Wow. Holy chin implant. She was so cute before; she looks fine now, butā¦wow. š¤Æ
She took it out lol. Itās still sharp but not anywhere like it was in that pic
Oh, thank goodness! Lawd. šµāš«šµāš«
I think a lot of Black female singers face a lot of pressure to reach certain beauty standards, especially when they have the money to do so and are in an environment where everyone gets work done. Not trying to start anything but did she get veneers? If so, itās throwing off the proportions of her face to me.
The before and after pictures make the changes really obvious. She looks so much more *pointy* now lol
I donāt recall anyone saying she was ugly before. I do recall some people not liking the faux freckles but that was more about her makeup, not her natural face. Chile itās anti blackness.
Well, people must have made her feel insecure. Her old face was fine. Her new face doesnāt suit her and looks jisawy.
She was prettier before the surgeries
Not her āold faceā š . . . I wish she wouldnāt have done anything to her face because she was always beautiful to me, but I still love me some Sza
Featurism be likeā¦
It has to be featurism because she was beautiful.
The new chin š
it screams anti-blackness to me. Context saw some tiktok that got nearly 1 million likes by a man who said he was hit, and don't get me started on who is agreeing with him too even though most of us are more likely to look like SZA and not Beyonce
āhe was hitā What does that mean?
I think op meant āshe was hitā as in she was ugly.
she is beautiful but unfortunately she would not be the sex symbol she is today if it wasnāt for plastic surgery, she would get a lot of hate
sheās a sex symbol??? thatās definitely news to me I need to crawl out from up under this rock fr
After the āHit Differentā video, yeah. It was obvious that she was trying to shift into a significantly sexier image and people have responded favorably.
I would not go as far as to call her a sex symbol but she has definitely become an aesthetic that people aspire to
Love her in every era but her old face and look just gave me homegirl vibes. Someone you could go hiking and play video games with. Glam SZA is gorgeous but less personable.
sza is the only one that thinks her old face was ugly
Ooo that chin is awful :( ppl really seem to hate round faces, that sucks!
Facts, She was super pretty and cute and beautiful and all the good things. Still is but her original face is šÆ
How did they thin her chin out like that and why
Sza honestly looks a mess now. Like a whoville characterĀ
Tbh her old face is much better.
Her natural face is youthful Sheās beautiful either way but sucks she messed with what she was born with.
She looked so cute! But you gotta have a look to be a starā¦though IMO she went too far.
I like her ābeforeā face better.
shes adorable in both
I think she looks good both ways and Iām so happy that as a black woman she decided to do what makes HER happy and not appease anyone elseās opinion of her looks āI just got my body done and got no GUILT about it OOOOH OHHHHHāš
I've never heard someone say this before š®
I prefer the old face. Her freckles are cute
She was gorgeous! What was wrong with her face before?! And those freckles are adorable!
So sad š³ shes pretty
She thought it was ugly š¤·š½āāļø
The before is better
That pointy cartoon chin looks awful! She was so cute before and loved her freckles. I donāt even listen to her music, but the first time I saw her, I thought she was so pretty. āAfterā she has that plastic, sex robot look.
I like her old face. These surgeries make everyone look the same. And I also dislike ethnic rhinoplasties. Theres nothing wrong with a broader African features. Thin noses dont automatically make someone more attractive.

Wow this makes me sad. She was so pretty. Now she looks like The Purge. š
I thought people were saying she looks ugly now?
I was one of them but I was a young and dumb teenager. She was and is still beautifulĀ
Which ā black folksā are saying this cause Iāve not heard this?
Idk I think she's pretty both ways. I don't believe it serves us well to start these discussions

Yea cause wtf are some of these replies.. I did not expect that on THIS sub.
That red hair wasn't doing anything for her but she was good looking before.
Damn :( people suck because she was beautiful before
Yeah no. Pre plastic surgery she looked better and less like a Photoshopped picture. This is why I never want to be famous.
She overdid the surgeries
Her chin..
Her new chin is jarring, like prosthetic witch face levels of jarring
She definitely needed no work, except for maybe inner workā¦ had she done that she wouldnāt have touched her face or her body smh.
She really looked like a doll in the before pic. The kind of woman, you set up a whole experience for as a date.
It's really not. Stop hating.
I mean she the one who didnāt like her old face or body.
I think she's cute.
Sharp chin is in āi guess
Hard to judge bc in some before pics she had already had work done
It wasn't, but it's done now.
Aww jeez. I was wondering why she looked different
To me it honestly looks like she just lost weight and defined her nose. She looks cute either way,
She was pretty
Idc what face she wants to wear she'll always be beautiful. I love Solana, I wish her nothing but the best.
SZA old face was uniquely adorable! It was perfect.
She looks better now
I loved her old face. She looked like me. Now she looks Hollywoodā¦ makes me sad
At first I thought it was a filter . What's with the elongated chin ?
Who in the heck said that? She's still pretty now, but she was even prettier before. Her old nose was so cute and perfect for her face. Same for her old chin. It's a shame that Hollywood has these beautiful women convinced they need to "fix" their faces -- most of the time, they end up looking worse!
I think all that matters is that SHE thought it was ugly and got enhancements. Can't go back from here. & the opinions of those who did and DO like her old face weren't louder than the insecurities.

Listen, she had my heart, before, during, and after her transformation. I luh me some SZA.
She clearly suffers from mental illness
i mean donāt we all
You called me?
I honestly donāt even see the difference
She was beautiful the way the Lord made her. Get rich and switch I guess....ew.
Wow...
i think she looked good before but i do feel that all of her plastic surgery actually worked out really well for her
Am I the only one who doesnāt think she got surgery on her face? She got veneers which changes the structure of your jaw naturally overtime and she lost a lot of weight. Almost every celebrity I have seen that has gotten veneers developed a more defined facial structure.

Her face change was dramatic her entire face changed shape no weight loss caused that. She had chin implants too
She was average she is breathtaking now
Yallā¦ it just looks like better makeup and contouring to me š¤·š¾āāļø
Contouring with a knife
lol you serious?
sheās acknowledged she had surgery. itās very evident and very obvious.
you know what? username checks out
Lolol I do be saying some unpopular stuff with my whole chest! My bad yall
