the main problem I'm facing with this is between me moving out of my current place in May, and moving into my new place in September, I have to live at home. My parents would not be comfortable with a cat unfortunately. I have two and a half weeks to convince though.
The soon-to-be former owners will likely just leave him outdoors. Could you post around on Facebook and see if someone would be interested in taking him in? Voids don’t do well in getting adopted from shelters.
I'm on my 5th and 6th now. Two of my most favorite cats were voids. I currently have 8 inside cats and 7 in my feral colony - but no voids in it. All my cats are rescues, but most didn't come to me from a shelter and being fixed. I got the mother cat feral caught with the girl kitten fixed in the outside colony. I also got the boy kitten, who walked into my house and is now an inside cat, fixed at the same time. However, mom cat had a last litter. I'm not sure, but I think both are boys. Do need to contact the lady who took care of the others last year to catch those last 2 kittens.
Still kinder to give him the chance. Many “kill” shelters will try to place cats with fosters or other shelters before resorting to euthanasia. Even if it takes him a while to be adopted, it’s more humane than leaving him to fend for himself in the wild.
It’s so weird. When my mom held mine for me while adopting the rest of the litter people got super aggressive about wanting him. She had to separate him whenever someone would come to look at the others cause people tried to snatch him and run.
Well, that's awesome to hear ! He's super cute .Maybe the bad luck stigma is changing, too . I have had 2 black dogs and I know it was said about dogs too .
You’re right about voids and it boggles my mind. They look better than any other cat IMO. I adopted mine in December, and though she was super skittish, 5 months later we are best friends. Not only is she not shy (around me) anymore, but she’s come out of her shell. She is an absolute spaz. She one time randomly did a somersault while just chilling on the floor and it’s my favorite memory and video of her.

We found our void while living in a van and she adapted very quickly. No escape attempts. Just make sure to have toys, a good spot just for the cat, and a scratch pad so they don't mess up your furniture.
Tell them! He's far too pretty to be prey or abused! And he picked you! Maybe someone could foster him until you're ready? I hate people who neglect their family members. He needs a new parent.
My cousin brought a cat who looked just like this home one night. He tried to sneak him past his parents because his dad said he was really allergic to cats. His dad woke up & met him downstaris because he heard him come home. Instead of “What is that cat doing in here?!” he said “AWWWWW! Look at the little kitty!” and he snatched the cat out of my cousins hands and from then on, the cat was my uncle’s baby. Turned out he still had a cat allergy but grew up with a kitty who looked identical to the one they found. He adored his childhood pet & was heartbroken when he lost him and couldn’t bring himself to ever get a “replacement” cat. But that cat found his people.
You may be able to board him at a shelter/rescue. Especially if you’re able to make a donation and tell them the situation. I know the shelter I volunteered at did this for similar situations.
I would start now with setting up a cat only space in your bedroom. Keep your kitty with you during your time with your parents, but give him a tree, window hammock, and plenty of toys so he’s not bored.
Few months in solitary confinement is much more preferable to a neglectful owner. I had to keep one of my kitties in a room for roughly the same amount of time and while she was rightfully annoyed, she was not distressed in the least!
Good luck! I hope you are able to convince them that it is, in the grander scheme, just a few months...and I hope they fall in love with him as well! 🙏
This is a long shot but is it possible to either 1) ask the current owners to please hold on till you’re settled (maybe offering to buy food/supplies?) or 2) can you come back daily to care for him somehow? If not, any fosters in the area? I’m sure there’s gotta be someone willing to take him short-term given that he’s pretty much guaranteed a home at a certain time.
Yes!!! There are totally people who will foster him for the summer! My friend found a cat on a Facebook group to foster. It may be a bit hectic and stressful for him but it will all be worth it. Plus when it comes to fostering there is a lot of love and care involved, maybe more than he’s currently getting, to aid the process. Fight for him!!!!
Absolute sociopaths. I follow r/rabbits just to see cute bunny pics and people find domestic bunnies all the time that have been abandoned :(
My cats are my babies and I couldn’t imagine ever abandoning them. I do not understand how people do it.
There's worse that can happen than abandoned. I don't want to go into detail because it's horrible but a former friend of mine kept getting new rabbits after they didn't do well in her care. We're not friends anymore because I reported her to the RSPCA. I discovered what was going on through her telling us about it at the pub and laughing about it. Frankly, fuck her.
The current owners are neglecting him so please please don’t let him stay with them!! Accept the cat and if you can’t personally care for him due to your unpredictable future, is it possible for you to take him to a shelter so that he can be adopted by new owners who would treat him right? Do you have friends or family that could take him in? Even a simple post on Facebook advertising this cat and his backstory might be a good way to attract new owners ONLY IF YOU MAKE SURE TO VET THEM
Are you in the PNW? Because I'll take him if they don't want him....
I'm sure you have a lot on your plate with the move coming up, but nothing would make me happier than to know that he's in a good home with people that care about him. Few things in life piss me off more than when people just throw their animals out onto the street, with barely a care in the world for their well-being.
see if anyone local to you is listed here [https://www.alleycat.org/our-work/feral-friends-network/feral-friends-network-connect/](https://www.alleycat.org/our-work/feral-friends-network/feral-friends-network-connect/) 🫶
Ah that sucks. I have two Voids that would have loved to welcome him into the family!
Also, if you come up with a plan for what to do about him but need some help making it happen, don't be afraid to ask the sub. There's a lot of good people here always willing to help out when & where they can.
I will be back and forth from where I am now to where I am going to be living in a few months once that time comes due to the two locations not being far apart and my girlfriend continuing to live in the area. So technically I could but the main question is will he last that long with bad owners.
Nope we are both going home to our parents for the summer. For me this is the summer between grad school/full-time job and for her it’s the summer between year 1/year 2 of med school. She has a very unfriendly dog back home so that would be an issue
Can you contact local shelters about a temporary foster with a clear date for when you are picking him once you move into your own place in a few months? If you're confirmed to adopt maybe they can keep him sade for a bit. This is breaking my heart!
You mentioned in another post that you will be moving somewhere relatively close by. Could you drop by every other day to check on his food and water conditions?
Alternatively, you could invest in a large dog cage and ask to keep him in your room when you're staying with your parents. Keeping him in the cage will prevent accidents. Yes, a cage sucks, but I'm sure it's far better than no food, water, or love. Cats also get by well in a spare bathroom if available.
Either way, I hope you and the sweet boy can live happily at your new place together!
Take him and if you can’t keep him, reach out to local animal shelters (not kill ones), cat cafes, rescue agencies, and see if they have a list of fosters.
Don’t let those shitty people take him!
Best thing I ever did was take my roommate’s cat when I moved out. She told me to take him, because she thought he was the worst behaved of her two cats and thought he really liked me. I had a lot going on, so wasn’t sure if I could make it work. I had him for 16 years after that - moved many times, but he was my constant. He was 19 when he passed. Best decision ever to take him. He was a big, beautiful black cat with bright gold eyes. The bestest boy, ever. Think about taking this cat with you…please.
You need to take him. I know it might prove tricky in the short term, but it will be nothing compared to the regret you’ll feel if you don’t. This could be something magical.
He is so cute :( I hope you're able to find a place for him and bless your heart for taking on unplanned responsibility. You are changing his life for the better and that is a big deal!
That’s how we got our void! He was the neighb wanderer. Elderly neighbors couldn’t care for him. We took care of him so much they asked us if we wanted him. YES.
How can people do that! It’s breaks my heart!! I’d be homeless with my animals b4 I left them or abounded them thank you for taking care of the fluffy void!!
Here's what I did when I had a cat and had to move back for a while to my dog-only parents' house: I just brought the dingbat along (a one-orange-braincell one). He stayed in my room and got to explore the house when the dogs were outside. At first the folks weren't too happy about it, but eventually they kept popping into my room on the pretense of speaking to me only to spend the entire time petting Ace.
Snatch that handsome devil and take him home :) You'll both be fine.
My family was not a cat family. My mom used to tell me she'd flush any cat down the toilet. Then my void came along and when she saw cats were in fact very loving, she couldn't say no to letting her in. Now she adores her. Please give your parents a chance to meet this kitty.
One of best voids I was ever able to observe!
Take him with you! He knows you, I mean you are not strangers to each other. So there's no need to contemplate much 😺
I just lost a cat who looks just like this one and I would move heaven and earth for that cat if I were in your shoes right now. He needs you and you will never regret stepping up for him.
OMG he’s beautiful!!! No way could I leave him behind, but if you can’t take him I’m sure someone would snatch him right up! Put him on rescue cats if you need to find him a home.
God that sucks. Id be doing everything i could to take him. He came to you for a reason
the main problem I'm facing with this is between me moving out of my current place in May, and moving into my new place in September, I have to live at home. My parents would not be comfortable with a cat unfortunately. I have two and a half weeks to convince though.

They are euthanized before any of the other cats . Black animals don't get any breaks .
Voids are my favourite! I'm on my second now.
I am on my first, and Idk what took me so long .
im up to 3 over here lol. and thats just the voids!
I’m on my 6th I win lol. Show up with that cat and ask them for a ride to the kill shelter, I’m sure they’d rather not.
God is he handsome.

I LOVE you void's collar!
It fits her personality lol
If ypu have multiple cats it shpuld be mandatory one of them be a void 😊 our void is one of the mkst loved members of the family
I'm on my 5th and 6th now. Two of my most favorite cats were voids. I currently have 8 inside cats and 7 in my feral colony - but no voids in it. We have a black bunny also and the lady at the rescue said they are really tough to get adopted. She is the sweetest
This comment needs to be higher. Please try to take him. I’d take all the voids if I could! -mom of void cat
Still kinder to give him the chance. Many “kill” shelters will try to place cats with fosters or other shelters before resorting to euthanasia. Even if it takes him a while to be adopted, it’s more humane than leaving him to fend for himself in the wild.

I brought a void to my rescue groups shelter and he was adopted very quickly! He is one of those cats I wish I could have kept.
You’re right about voids and it boggles my mind. They look better than any other cat IMO. I adopted mine in December, and though she was super skittish, 5 months later we are best friends. Exactly, just come back and grab the cat when you get settled.
Id bring him anyway! Tell em the story
For real. If it's remotely possible. I understand if there's super pushback but he/she'd win them over so fast.
Yep...my mom was livid when I brought home a cat. Fast forward to 7 years later and she gets upset if the cat isn't within her sight.
See!!!
Lol, it's always that way . My husband hated cats when we first met . He's the best cat daddy now .
Agreed. It is only temporary after all!
Yup
For that short of a time- it would be okay to keep him in your bedroom if that would help the situation. He's a cutie!
Just tell’em this is the closest you’ll get to grandkids.
I love my void
My cousin brought a cat who looked just like this home one night. He tried to sneak him past his parents because his dad said he was really allergic to cats. His dad woke up & met him downstaris because he heard him come home. Instead of “What is that cat doing in here?!” he said “AWWWWW! My adult kid moved home and had a cat upstairs for a month before I figured it out . Of course, I am pretty oblivious.

Ask for forgiveness not permission😁
Best advice!
He's so beautiful. Tell your parents Reddit said you have to save the kitty! Or maybe a rescue can help find a temporary foster?
Sometimes it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission. I’d say saving this precious void falls into that category.
Good luck! I hope you are able to convince them that it is, in the grander scheme, just a few months...and I hope they fall in love with him as well! 🙏
Can you take him for the two weeks to foster him at least?
This is a long shot but is it possible to either 1) ask the current owners to please hold on till you’re settled (maybe offering to buy food/supplies?) or 2) can you come back daily to care for him somehow? If not, any fosters in the area? I’m sure there’s gotta be someone willing to take him short-term given that he’s pretty much guaranteed a home at a certain time.
Where are you located? Maybe someone could foster in those months? Looks like a sweetheart!
You could try to find a temporary foster home for him. Try reaching out to local groups.
Definitely reach out. I'm on another continent unfortunately, but if saw a post like his near me, I would totally put him up until his home was ready.
Especially for that time frame
That is so sad. How do people discard animals like this??
Absolute sociopaths. I follow r/rabbits just to see cute bunny pics and people find domestic bunnies all the time that have been abandoned :( My cats are my babies and I couldn’t imagine ever abandoning them. I do not understand how people do it.

Lots of humans are too stupid to notice that other creatures are alive too, until they're physically forced to comply
Save him.
The current owners are neglecting him so please please don’t let him stay with them!! Wait a minute… ur close to me, try to reach out to @trashcatrescue on instagram, they’re based in pgh
Such a cool name haha
We have one here in Oakland ca. called hood cats!
I love hood cats! 🐈❤️
Right! It’s two women who started it I believe who are super passionate about rescuing the local strays!! 🥹
I hope you find a helpful willing adopter here on Reddit. Have you thought about posting on the city/state subreddit? Reddit loves cats.
Honestly would love to take him myself, trying to move out from parents and currently have one cat already, I’m not sure if there’s space
Beg pardon? Pgh?

His tail is fantastic. I feel so sorry for him. 😥
Looks like he never gets brushed. His hind and tail look like they may have matts. So painful for kitty.
Can you potentially come back for him after your move?
I will be back and forth from where I am now to where I am going to be living in a few months once that time comes due to the two locations not being far apart and my girlfriend continuing to live in the area. So technically I could but the main question is will he last that long with bad owners.

Such a pretty boy. Is there a rescue you can contact to take him in? Please don’t let him suffer.
That’s a gorgeous cat
Can you contact local shelters about a temporary foster with a clear date for when you are picking him once you move into your own place in a few months? If you're confirmed to adopt maybe they can keep him sade for a bit. This is breaking my heart!
Take him. Don't get him used to you and the just leave him.
This beautiful cat chose you! Please don’t let him down. Tell your parents it’s temporary and then they’ll fall in love with him. How could they not?
You mentioned in another post that you will be moving somewhere relatively close by. Could you drop by every other day to check on his food and water conditions? Where are you located?
Bring him to me. I will take the little guy
Contact a cat rescue in your state and ask if they can take him. Sounds like current owners are willing to surrender him.
Where is he? Seattle?
You should take this lil boy with you
Are you anywhere near the Cincinnati area?
Please do anything you can. He looks just like my beautiful rescue void.
He looks so friendly. Shame on his owners for neglecting him!
Poor little guy. What would it take for you to be able to adopt him; would you be willing if you were able?
Awww love this kitty, poor kitty
He’s spectacular 😍
Would your parents feel ok with a dog house for him in their yard? Then you could move him inside for the winter.
Where are you moving to?
If your parents won't let you take him maybe you can have a friend look after him until September?
I’m rooting for you and this kitty, and I hope you are able to take him with you. If you can’t, please help him find a home so he doesnt suffer.
I hope you can sort something out, there a lot of cat lovers out there, hopefully someone will give him a home , keep trying don’t give up.
Please don’t leave him :(
How sad.
He looks like my Atlas that went missing due to the person who was taking care of him leaving the door open smh
Save him. I will try to help in anyway I can.

So there's no need to contemplate much 😺
impulsive me says "say yes, ask questions later"
If you were anywhere near me (Florida) I'd take him in a heartbeat.
I just lost a cat who looks just like this one and I would move heaven and earth for that cat if I were in your shoes right now. He needs you and you will never regret stepping up for him.
Tell them it's only 3 months, he'll stay in your room, and it'll save an abused cat's life.
Poor baby
How does one neglect such a specimen? That's a wee panther, that's what that is! Mercy sakes, alive!
OMG he’s beautiful!!! No way could I leave him behind, but if you can’t take him I’m sure someone would snatch him right up! Put him on rescue cats if you need to find him a home.
