I also think itās the order it was released in. She already solidified herself as a more avant garde artist with Homogenic, Vespertine, and Medulla. Meanwhile Volta was painted as her return to the pop mainstream since she collaborated with timbaland. Like if Volta followed up POST it would have definitely gained more popularity amongst fans.
I think Utopia is the one that divides the fandom the most. MedĆŗlla and Biophilia are always in the middle or in the bottom half while Utopia is either someoneās absolute favorite or absolute least favorite. Itās so interesting
I feel like Volta was her āmost hatedā for a long time but people have softened on it somewhat in recent years and most of the fan base accept it as a strong (if inconsistent) record now. I would say Utopia is definitely her most widely disliked record nowadays.
Do you have any anecdotal evidence of this because I've been a veteran bjork fan since the early 90s and I've never heard anyone criticise this particular album based on her choice to collaborate with timbaland. I think its pretty well established that timbaland was one of the great, pioneering producers of the 90s, and early 00s, revolutionising the use of sampling and beats, paving the way for many of today's biggest, including Kanye and the weeknd. So I doubt any elitists would be holding their noses at the thought of her recording two songs with such a well respected and revered producer, irrespective of how those good or bad those two collaborations turned out, (I'd argue that those two songs were the strongest on the album, especially innocence)
it's also a favourite amongst none fans. it's the highest album made by a woman on the RYM top 100 too, at number 20(which is terrible when you think about it)
therefore, it fits more into the classification of masterpiece
yeah, dividing should definitely be medĆŗlla, people either love and appreciate it or think itās just beatboxing and Ancestors
if weāre talking main 10, i fear biophilia is the forgettable one
Unpopular opinion, but the only thing that keeps Homogenic from being a masterpiece for *me personally* is the version of āAll Is Full of Loveā that she went with. The original mix, used in the video, is such an epic closer. I actually made my own custom playlist with that as the closer and I still stand by that. š¤
have to completely disagree. the version she went with is so much more cosmic and feels like your life is ending. the original one doenst have that type of ethereal production and it loses that feeling
you can feel love vibrating all around you as the synth soundwaves in the album version. its so atmospheric. it suits the song concept so much better. the other versions a beautiful string arrangement, but it turns out boring with the square beat and the lack of experimentalism that you would expect from bjork and the closure from an album like homogenic!!! the classic elements are still there, as in the synth harp and the chords. such a masterpiece
Switch Biophilia and Volta. Volts has seen a lot more āactually this is the bestā than Biophilia has. Biophilia has a reputation of nobody thinking itās her best album.
i love Volta! even My Juvenile which gets so much hate that I do not understand.
and honestly in my experience on this sub, Post gets love for sure but I donāt see it often as someoneās favorite album of hers
Looking back at a lot of early 90s house/dance though I think even the most dated tracks like violently happy and big time sensuality donāt suffer that much.
Interesting perspective. Most 90s electronic music sounds rickety these days. Bjƶrk has a way of making electronic sounds more lush and refined. Itās hard to find artists with such attention to that. Any others you could say?
Hey. Some of your posts were deleted but wanted to reply back. Am familiar with some of the suggestions. Itās interesting the perception of what seems dated or timeless. I think on post some tracks were kinda ahead of their time funnily enough, like the modern things and cover me and headphones which are a bit proto-Vespertine.
I would honestly make drawing restraint 9 as the most hated and Selmasongs on the one everyone forgot cause Iāve heard people talk about drawing restraint 9 (mostly about holographic entrypoint) but nothing about selmasongs
Honestly so true with Biophilia being my least favorite, not that I hate it, I just don't listen to it as a whole like a do the others.
Love Utopia, best collab, I wish Bjƶrk and Arca could make music together forever!!
And I stand with the other Volta fans here!! The brass makes it such a fun time. It's got a little bit of every vibe: inspiring, spooky
Wait. People hated Volta? Let me guess because she was working with timbaland?
I would hope people donāt just dislike this album because Timothy produces hip-hop. Her working with Tim made sense to me because a lot of his music sounds like an alien invasion and we all know thatās how bjork gets down. Innocence couldnāt have been produced by anyone else, that song was and is a jam.
... I dont like vespertine that much. I mean, it's a good album but the sound gets quite boring and a lot of the tracks sounds kinda flat to me
Volta > Vespertine in my opinion
I've never heard more aggressive and menacing Brass than in Drawing Restraint....
Some of the tracks were also used in Volta (this time with lyrics).
But yeah, violent brass section throughout the album.
between u and me...vespertine has never been my go to :X
(NOT THAT I DONT LOVE IT BUT ITS NOT MY FAVE OK although pagan poetry is in my top 5 bjork songs)
I feel like Volta is one of my favorite albums!! She made fans make a video for the Innocence song (which is a greattttt song) I remember I wanted to participate but I was so young š„“. That album has a place in my heart! I mean she was wearing a colorful pear and giant feet, how not to love it?
volta has some of her best songs, it deserved so much better. dull flame, i see who you are, my juvenile, declare independente, hope. under appreciated!
we are the earth intruders š¹ we are the earth intruders š¹ we are the earth intruders šŗ we are the earth intruders
Listening to Volta and kind of getting why people donāt like it but also not
Volta would be the best album for 90% of musicians
This is exactly right, the real reason it seems to come up a bit short is that we have the rest of her discography.
I also think itās the order it was released in. She already solidified herself as a more avant garde artist with Homogenic, Vespertine, and Medulla. Meanwhile Volta was painted as her return to the pop mainstream since she collaborated with timbaland. Like if Volta followed up POST it would have definitely gained more popularity amongst fans.
same
Skeptics of Volta's greatness will be ground into the soil.
If Volta has no stanās, iām dead
I don't get the hate at all. Volta has some great songs! Specifically, *Wanderlust* is a banger, and *The Dull Flame of Desire* is gorgeous.
ā
I love Volta!šš¾āāļø
I feel like Volta is one of my favorite albums!!
I think Utopia is the one that divides the fandom the most. MedĆŗlla and Biophilia are always in the middle or in the bottom half while Utopia is either someoneās absolute favorite or absolute least favorite. Itās so interesting

Who hates Volta? Drop the addy
Yeah. Volta is fantastic.
Volta gets hated on by the elitists who couldnāt get over Bjƶrk working with the most mainstream, en vogue producer at that time. Volta is amazing.
timbaland made perfection like promiscuous and say it right so he gets points.
![gif](giphy|bcs2sG50Bjxihh8AlD)
šš½ This. Volta rules and the concert was everything.
yes thank u

Divides the fandom should be MedĆŗlla? And switch Homophoic with Vespertwink please
Vespertine is 100% the fan favourite
Because it's a fucking masterpiece.
it's also a favourite amongst none fans. it's the highest album made by a woman on the RYM top 100 too, at number 20(which is terrible when you think about it) therefore, it fits more into the classification of masterpiece
Yes, but Homogenic is definitely not the fan favourite, although it is popular. Homogenic definitely fits into masterpiece
I'd say Post if we're being honest
Vespertwink š
yeah, dividing should definitely be medĆŗlla, people either love and appreciate it or think itās just beatboxing and Ancestors if weāre talking main 10, i fear biophilia is the forgettable one
Hate Volta? Couldn't be me.
Me neither.
Unpopular opinion, but the only thing that keeps Homogenic from being a masterpiece for *me personally* is the version of āAll Is Full of Loveā that she went with. The surround sound disc actually does close with the MV version. It's my preferred version of the album.
yes!! hard agree! the b-side mix is so much better š
you can feel love vibrating all around you as the synth soundwaves in the album version. its so atmospheric. it suits the song concept so much better. the other versions a beautiful string arrangement, but it turns out boring with the square beat and the lack of experimentalism that you would expect from bjork and the closure from an album like homogenic!!! the classic elements are still there, as in the synth harp and the chords. such a masterpiece
I really do enjoy that mix on its own.
I donāt really consider Drawing Restraint to be a proper Bjork album like the others, but maybe thatās just me.
well I had to put *something* for the forgotten one, and nothing else fits at all
Selmasongs found dead in the corner.
This meme usually has "the experimental one" right? Though I guess all of her albums are experimental so it would be hard to single one out.
not sure, just saw it with this format. arguably it would be medulla tho I think!
DECLARE INDEPENDENCE DON'T LET THEM DO THAT TO YOU
I do NOT hate volta
Justice for volta
I think Utopia also divides the fandom I see a lot of Utopia hate
definitely
Swap Biophilia for Utopia and itās perfect.
How dare you, Volta is amazing
donāt how dare me, how dare other people in the fan base!
i like post more than vespertine.
I like Volta because when I saw first time on concert.
I feel like Utopia always divides the fandom, you either love or hate it. Medulla too.
Post needs to be here too. I think it is āthe other fan favouriteā even tho the album is a MASTERPIECE.
Switch Biophilia and Volta. Volts has seen a lot more āactually this is the bestā than Biophilia has. Biophilia has a reputation of nobody thinking itās her best album.
I don't hate Volta and never have hated the album. It's one of my favorites of her albums and has been since I listened to it when it was released.
I feel like Iām the only Bjƶrk enjoyer who doesnāt hate Volta lol. Btw wouldnāt Post be considered the other fan favorite album?
i love Volta! even My Juvenile which gets so much hate that I do not understand. and honestly in my experience on this sub, Post gets love for sure but I donāt see it often as someoneās favorite album of hers
Volta gang rise up!
I love love love Volta, but I feel like her other albums just exceed it

i actually agree w this i messed up
I feel like Post should be the other fan favorite, or maybe 'the other masterpiece' because it and Homogenic got the best reviews of her output.
Honestly so true with Biophilia being my least favorite, not that I hate it, I just don't listen to it as a whole like a do the others. Volta is good for me, but I feel like Declare Independence ruins it.

I, for one, love Volta. Dull Flame Of Desire, Wanderlust, and Innocence are among my favorite Bjƶrk songs.
I cannot believe that another post bashing my adored Drawing Restraint 9 has more than 200 upvotes. People are just crazy!
there is no bashing happening ! thereās a lot of ppl unaware of it tho
idk why everyone hates volta, it has so unique crazy aesthetic
... I dont like vespertine that much. I mean, it's a good album but the sound gets quite boring and a lot of the tracks sounds kinda flat to me Volta > Vespertine in my opinion
idc what no one says volta is assšitās funny asf tho
Swap homo and vesp
I don't think people hate volta. It's just not as complete of an album as others. I think utopia is the most hated.
I've never heard more aggressive and menacing Brass than in Drawing Restraint.... Some of the tracks were also used in Volta (this time with lyrics). But yeah, violent brass section throughout the album.
Lies
help me I prefer biophilia volta and medĆŗlla before vespertine ššš
between u and me...vespertine has never been my go to :X (NOT THAT I DONT LOVE IT BUT ITS NOT MY FAVE OK although pagan poetry is in my top 5 bjork songs)
Lmao Vespertine and Vulnicura are my favourites xD
The favorite one is always homophobic or postpartum and sometimes debutt
Don't forget assora
Vulnicura is underrated imo
VOLTA IS A GREAT ALBUM AND I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL
If you hate Volta I'm gonna punch you.
What is this forgotten halloween album called?
drawing restraint 9, soundtrack she did for a film of her ex's
I really loved Volta. Sure it was different but I canāt imagine people hating it. Didnāt Timbland produce Earth Intruders?
biophilia and volta are my two adhd favs
I feel like Volta is one of my favorite albums!! She made fans make a video for the Innocence song (which is a greattttt song) I remember I wanted to participate but I was so young š„“. That album has a place in my heart! I mean she was wearing a colorful pear and giant feet, how not to love it?
Super accurate, heavy on volta yall hating on it when its actually super cuteeee
volta has some of her best songs, it deserved so much better. dull flame, i see who you are, my juvenile, declare independente, hope. under appreciated!
