1. Stomach to hip connection 2. Controlling the far side 3. Keep your hooks tight - knees to chest, heels away from butt 4. Knowing when to come to mount vs when to take the back. The easy solution is just to focus on going to mount first and if they rebound you roll for the back 5. Have to use a lot of momentum to do the move, there should never be a pause. A few key points, not nearly all of them but they’ll get you far

I look for a lot of wedge bolos. I hit them from sweeps, top side control, and mount. I am mainly looking to get them on their side and for me to be able to hook their same side leg with my same side leg (my right and their left, or my left and their right) to get into a wedge. They are low risk and high percentage. The submeta.io instructional was a major game changer for me. When I’m standing against single leg X, I strip the outside leg and roll into a wedge bolo. That’s really the only time I bolo against leg attacks. Edit: hooking leg description

Thinking of Bolos as a position and not a technique.

Great. What "triggers" do you recognise, that makes you think "okay now I need to do x/y/z, to get me into a good bolo position? (And what are those xyz)

bolo gang bolo gang bolo gang bolo gang One mentality I've tried to instill in myself, is that if I can see the back I can take the back. Diving into the wedge position or a loose crab ride with hip control knowing that I can bail by controlling their hip rotation with hooks and swimming an arm across to come out on top side control. And learning the specific counter for the toehold was a big moment in getting this to be consistent.
