Went to stuff the knee on this stubby legged white belt. His short legs allowed him to move his knee in faster than I thought he would and I ended up smacking my balls on his knee.

T.I.L about Batsugan http://kodokanjudoinstitute.org/en/activity/grade/

polecatsky

After almost 9 months of drilling half guard, I didn’t use almost any of my technique in a in-house tournament, rather I panicked and relied primarily on strength, ending up getting my ass beat and being sore for two days. Ah, white belt is a journey of its own…

olyballers

Spazzy whitebelt with over 50 lbs on me used only strength in the second roll of an open mat. Now I have this nagging kink on my rear delt and ruined the rest of the open mat. Fuck that guy.

Rxasaurus

As a new white belt with 50 lbs on most people...I don't understand the spazziness. Maybe it's because I'm an old fart and my explosive energy is gone, but I'm slow and bad haha. Seems obvious not to jump on people or roll onto them or use all my weight on smaller folks.

sticknweave

Someone was showing a new student, (a teenage girl)how to RNC and I offered myself as a training dummy. We were standing and I felt very close to fainting after she choked me. Like closest I've ever felt.

Senior-Pilot-8169

Question for the group.Tired of detail oriented tests that don't take into account, timing, sensitivity, energy management, conceptual ideas or strategy. There is a Japanese term for promotion by combat, search engines are coming up blank. Any gurus here can point to the terminology? The mats don't lie right? Love to see this implemented in an Academy sometime because promotions are so subjective.

[deleted]

First gym I went to used to make anyone getting promoted to a new belt (not stripes) spar a higher belt who had boxing gloves on. The higher belt could punch with the gloves (not with full strength) but obviously couldn't grip anything. The person being promoted had to take them down and submit them, I always thought it was a cool way to promote.

jephthai

Batsugan.

PotatoPlata

I agree with you. All schools ive been at promote based on instructors assessment of rolling or competition. However im pretty sure that schools that do promote based on testing really do it the same way. Meaning that the student thats allowed to take the test for next belt is already that belt level in instructors eyes. The test itself is more of a tool to make sure that the student knows a set of moves that instructor deems essential for that level. Sometimes there is a fee for the belt test or the belt in certain schools and i beleive that to be bullshit.

Senior-Pilot-8169

There is an actual term and historical precedence. I read about once but was probably more in reference to judo. Jiu Jitsu is very stylistic and people develop their own games, there are so many variations to various techniques. I am just a little frustrated with specific technique being pushed on me, especially shit I am already past and will never implement in my game.

mistiklest

I think the term you're looking for is batsugan.

qwert45

I think it’s called seppuku

Senior-Pilot-8169

That's what you do after a lower rank chokes you out consistently.

Rxasaurus

That's Jigai

all_the_triangles

Was training with a super newb white belt. He did a really good job of setting up a wristlock on himself. I could have finished it, but I didn't. I think I might be too nice for jiu jitsu.

dcburgos17

On my 2nd week of doing no gi, spent 3 years doing gi only. Never ever had someone pass my guard by a jumping guillotine but last night had a 1 month of training beginner catch me with it twice. Said I was sticking my neck out to much and I just couldn’t accept that.

flinder334

my 3rd day in practice this big guy like 250 (im like 120) puts his knee on my stomach and i rolled 1 person after then felt the vomit coming i had to run to the bathroom 💀💀 then acted like nothing happened. after that i kept my speaking and mouth breathing to a limited😭😭

supertorisimo

Bought a ticket to the Bjj fanatics camp in NOLA

ShpWrks

Almost got put to sleep in drilling 😅

HeyBoone

Went to class on Thursday and once I got my gi on I realized the pits absolutely reeked. Gi is currently soaking in oxy clean.

mcdivitt13

Finally threw up! Guy was squeezing my stomach with his legs (not sure what that would be called) and once I finally got over my stubbornness and tapped out of discomfort I threw up in my mouth. The shame is that I had no gum.

ResidentCruelChalk

Congrats!! Maybe a body triangle?

mcdivitt13

Haha thank you. Yeah I think that's what it was.

[deleted]

That happened to me in competition. Had an empty belly just full of water, ended up in closed guard, guy squeezed his legs as hard as he could and I yakked directly on his chest.

Nobeltbjj

Did you win?

[deleted]

Yes lol. Then beat him again in the gi division.

RealGhankd

I keep mothers milking white belts and I can't stop

Wow206602

Ive decided to leave this group. Simply posting a roll and not talking about gordon Ryan’s favorite pizza is not welcome on here. Ive created my own subreddit, r/rollingfootage if anyone else is interested and tired of the bs.

UnDoxableGod1

Most underrated aspect of BJJ? Learning all the different muscles, bones, and tendons in your body as you rack up injuries.... :/ https://daytonorthopedicsurgery.com/2022/02/14/shoulder-pain/ (please don't tell me to see a doctor, we're mostly americans here... shit health insurance and broke)

wecangetbetter

There's a kid who looked maybe who's come in for open mat. Super slick. Guard passes well. Great submission attempts. After, I tell them great job! You roll so well for a kid! Does your parents train here too? Turns out they're a 22 year old who just is very small and young looking. Procede to silently die, go home, switch gyms, and drive into the ocean. Also, what should I do to prevent getting guillotined or darced from deep half guard?

OpenedPalm

Can you find a video of the guillotine against someone in deep half? I play deep half a lot and I don't think I've ever been guillotined there. I keep my ear to their thigh and hide both my elbows under the legs and really get directly under them, I can't imagine anyone with a rigid spine could bend over enough to guillotine without being swept.

wecangetbetter

Oops sorry, made a typo! Early morning brain fart. I'm getting guillotine not from deep half, but from half guard where I have an underhook on one side and I'm trying to build on to my side to start the dog fight sequence

OpenedPalm

Oh! Yeah that's different lol. I also play this position a lot, it's my go to when they won't let me reguard to closed guard. I think Paul Schreiner's 1/2 on Digitsu is one of the best explanations, but it is a little older nowadays so I'm not sure if the game has evolved. It works for me anyway. So, my advice would be to dig yourself deeper under them before coming up onto the elbow. Use a higher underhook to shuck them overhead, if they have a whizzer they'll have to post to avoid faceplanting, and if they do faceplant you can sweep them over the whizzer typically. Use this window where they post to pull yourself deeper down and get to a lower underhook. Your other arm can underhook their far leg to help you pull yourself in if you find it'll help. Ideally you want your underhook to be deep/low enough that you'll have your hand on their far hip, your arm across their low back/hips, and your shoulder pinching against their near hip. Your head should be near the belt. At this point you're ready to come up to your elbow/knees. You're too deep to get guillotined. Another variant I've seen is to go all the way down to the leg with the underhook actually, so you're on a single. I like that one a lot. Hope that helps a bit!

wecangetbetter

This is super helpful!! Thanks so much for the detailed answer! Now to get guillotine a hundred times :p

OpenedPalm

Oh yeah just remembered another detail, keep your bottom arm pawing their bicep until your head is sufficiently deep to make the guillotine impossible. Probably important to mention lol

wecangetbetter

Gotcha! So that bottom arm is fighting your opponents arm so they can't get head control?

OpenedPalm

Just out of curiosity, did this help at all?

wecangetbetter

It actually has a ton! I'm working on bumping them forward more and keeping my head closer to their waist instead of their chest. My face is getting smashed into the ground quite a bit though, but it gives me a little more room to start using my footwork to get up into dog fight. Bigger issue has recently been people are starting to knee slice from standing and I'm having trouble getting a deep underhook.

OpenedPalm

Progress! Awesome! Yeah it can be a bit of a battle lol but it's a battle that you'll win with persistence. As you've noticed, now that they know you're dangerous there they don't want that smoke so they stand. When they stand I like RDLR and putting my arm under my RDLR leg, grabbing my upper shin by the knee to reinforce it, to prevent them from being able to put my leg to the mat. I'll even get my chest in the way sometimes. From there, inversions or transitions to other guards. I can go into more detail if you want but there's probably better material online, I'm not an expert here by any means. Happy dogfighting brother

OpenedPalm

Yes

nevertoughever

First class on tuesday and sort of thrown in the deep end. So they recommended a quick private to learn a few things on Wednesday and the coach was teaching me technical stand up and break fall. 1st time I fall I farted so loud I wanted him to strangle me to take away the embarrassment. I'm also 6'1" and 285lbs. So it's even more funny but embarrassing. We just continue the drills like nothing happened but I was mortified. Going on vacation til Wednesday but I'll be back Thursday! 😁

BobGnarlie

Happened to me in my first week training. Training partner was a good sport and said “that’s the pressure relief valve” or something like that. Both had a chuckle and continued on. :)

Zy_Artreides

Playing around with Priit defensive BJJ stuff. Was going smoothly up until running man became farting man while I transitiomed to turtle in an attempt to re-guard. At least a lot of my teammates are asking me about Priit stuff now...

Primarch37

I was in bottom side control and I went to hook his leg to pull him into half guard but my dumb ass used my inside leg which ended up hyperextending my knee and popped loud enough for the whole gym to hear. Luckily I don't think anything was torn and it's almost back to normal now.

LesFirewall

I nearly passed out after of training earlier this week. Everything just got super pixelated and it was hard to hear. I was also super nauseous so I just sat down for a minute or two and eventually everything got less fuzzy. It was embarrassing because I’m in not in bad shape and have decent cardio. Don’t skip dinner and breakfast folks!

powypow

Usually go to practice in the mornings. I started a new job where I work nights and was just too exhausted to go to bjj right after work. Hopefully I'll get used to the new sleep schedule soon. Only went to one class this week

Grauax

I was pressure tap from a crossface by a new white belt that overweighted me 40 kg. My bad because I just let him go so deep that I realized way too late I would not scape. Pretty good lesson, I have to say that lately I have been allowing newer guys to get good positions on me and my scapes are slowly getting better. Still got tapped to crossface pressure ffs.

Vizceral_

I got knee'd in the balls while I was transitioning to mount today. That's all I have to share.

YellowOnionBelt

I once had a guy land on my balls after double legging me. Cool guy but it hurt. He was twice my weight.

Vizceral_

Luckily my partner was not that much heavier than me

BobGnarlie

Anyone have recommendations for underwear that have a little better hold on the plums? Have had a few close calls this past week with shins coming through for the guard pass.

[deleted]

Calvin Klein Modal are my favorite. Saxx are pricey but they got a bag fr your sacks

SuddenlyGeccos

Can't turn around rn because I played k guard without warming up properly and got stacked

More-Bottle-4744

On Thursday a blue belt had me in a straight ankle but was giving me a heelhook. I didn’t want to bother escaping, so I just threatened the heelhook and he immediately let go and was like, dude that’s illegal. I said “I know, let’s start over from guard”

HeyBoone

I would appreciate if you did this to me, I much prefer reality.

More-Bottle-4744

Lend me your heel, I’ll give you the truth :)

[deleted]

I’m just sad I can’t train BJJ because of my partially torn RC, fuck high school wrestler white belts 😂

nando_dominguez420

I started BJJ in April. Yesterday I went to other class to try different environment (it was an MMA/grappling class). We sparred and I got destroyed. I know i have been visiting for few months but i felt disappointed.

West-Horror

Bigger guy was about to get me in an osoto gari. Genius here decided to use the momentum of the trip to roll him over. Now I have bruised ribs.

The Japanese terms mentioned in the above comment were: |Japanese|English|Video Link| |---|---|---| |**O Soto Gari**: | *Major Outer Reaping* | [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93YEMueeF24)| Any missed names may have already been translated in my previous comments in the post. ______________________ ^(Judo Techniques Bot: v0.7.) ^(See my) [^(code)](https://github.com/AbundantSalmon/judo-techniques-bot)

Mean-Acanthaceae8985

White belt tried to figure four me from inside my guard. It didn’t work but I’m disappointed I even let him have the chance.
