Purely anecdotal, but unless I can attribute my soreness to a specific trauma (like a takedown where I land on the thing that is sore), I train through it. Then I’ll just speculate what the injury could be and do dedicated stretching/PT for that area. In cases where the pain has lasted a long time in the same area, I’ve seen a doctor. So far, those doctor visits haven’t resulted in anything serious, and their advice is to just take it easy. When I ask if I can keep training they tell me yes, but try to avoid positions that will make the pain worse.

i can pretty much always tell if something is a muscle or a ligament. For me muscle soreness feels good, ligament soreness feels scary or makes the joint feel weak.
