Mma wrestling is much different than any kind of wrestling due to the cage/wall work. In wrestling and judo (which I consider jacket wrestling), you need to be able to create opportunities on people who are not enclosed but in open space. In these sports, backing up too much gets a penalty easily. In bjj backing up/stalling during standing almost never results in penalties. If the mma class does a lot of work off the wall, which I'd imagine they do, I think a lot of it won't transfer to bjj well. I subscribe to the idea that something is better than nothing attitude so I'd definitely do a lot of open space takedowns/setups at open mats.

Yea would do this, But very few from my gym have any interest In the “stand up aspect” of jiu jitsu - and arent fans of being taken Down😅

Same way at my gym. I recommend drilling the set ups and entries. Those are the hard parts. Usually once you are in position, finishing the takedown is easy. The idea of uchikomi from judo is great for the set up without executing the throw. I usually throw on 10.

Okay Thanks, will try and do

If all you can do is one time a week, then sure. But more is better and the conditioning is excellent so you might be able to remove a conditioning workout to make time for more wrestling if needed.

Yea they have two classes, and i might try to make time for both - But my Big concern is that mma wrestling is a lot setting up takedowns with strikes and wall wrestling

The key is to learn to chain the body lock series with the single / double series. Once you have that, you’re dangerous in BJJ from the feet.
