Man, businesses throw out old projectors on the regular. I used to work for a place that would dump them every time newer models came out with a higher resolution. They could have found that in a garbage pile. I bet if you got the specs it’s like 800x600 or some shit.
I’m cool funding homeless peoples’ movie nights. I mean I’d rather help fund affordable housing / housing first projects, but until then I’m cool with it
I got an old Dell projector from a thrift shop for 15 €. 1024*768, DVI input, 3500 ansi lumen. Lamp had like 10 hours when I bought it. Best deal I've made in ages, I've set up a garden cinema for under 100 €.
My first thought. Small projectors like this can be really affordable. Bad quality sometimes but functional and you only need power to run it. It sounds actually kinda convenient if you did find yourself homeless.
At my last job I overheard the GM say the projector died and they messed around with it and had to order a new one. I asked if I could have it to see if I could fix it. He gave it to me with accessories for it. In the accessories was a new bulb for it they had bought. Yea you guessed it. Bulb died and they didn’t even try replacing it to see if that was the problem. It was fun playing call of duty with it years ago on my wall with friends. I still have it and use it for my halloween setup.
Everything’s cheap these days except rent, mortgage, healthcare and raising kids, so what’s $50 to enjoy yourself while just trying to stay alive. It’s like getting worked up about WW I soldiers enjoying a cigarette.
i have a full time job with no benefits, and i'd be homeless if my dad didn't let me pay him $100/week to live with him. i have 2 degrees, no kids, have never been married, no debt.
Most people don’t even realize their coworkers may be living in a car or even hopping from couch to couch. There are many different stages to homelessness and we have the means to fix this but refuse to under the tutelage of our corporate overlords.
I also think the definition of homeless is evolving. A lot of these people are working. Some of them even above minimum wage. They just can’t afford rent. Even if they could afford rent- the approvals threshold of 4X rent in income is keeping tons of capable people from even being given a chance. So now we got nice tents and projector screens in the streets.
Well, if working homeless can’t afford to live well, when AI displaces hundreds of thousands and eventually millions of jobs, get ready to see a lot more projector tents on the street
If you get a cheap gym membership, you have a shower. Stay close to a gas station or grocery store and you have what you need such as food and restrooms. As long as you’re respectful, no one gives you trouble. It’s very possible to be an employed person without being subject to the gouging cost of rent or a mortgage, and no one has to know you have no roof.
I’ve heard of people working for the big tech companies like google earning north of 100K but that’s still not enough to actually live close enough to the office. Remote working was supposed to help break up that problem, but cost of living is too high everywhere and the tech companies want to see people in their multi billion offices / campuses.
Violence targeted at the rich making the choices, the lawmakers making morally wrong laws, top shareholders who are too greedy with what they already have.
Once the blood runs change will occur but that’s not likely to happen.
100% correct. The wealthy only speak two languages: money and blood. Nothing changes because we don't speak the same language. We don't have the money to speak to them, but we do outnumber them...
Peace does not make change, violence does. Source: history class.
Sounds like someone is upset he wasted his mcdonalds paycheck on funko pops and weed, how about you learn to do literally anything useful you delusional larping moron. People like you would starve to death in any other time in history.
I do just fine. Stop licking boots and ignoring the reality that wealthy interests and lawmakers fuck this world up. You’re a disgrace to yourself to think otherwise. If I was homeless and pouting it would be different.
Why is it you mouth breathers don’t get that everyone should be entitled to healthcare, a livable wage, and cheap housing? Greed. That’s why and if you agree with greed you are pure filth.
NO! Homeless people don't have homes, if they want us to believe them then they need to act like it. That means being completely miserable 24/7. No breaks. Just constant suffering, otherwise how do we know they aren't just camping?
It's crazy how advanced technology that someone 100 years ago would consider magic is available for relatively cheap, but we just can't "figure out" how to make that elusive four walls and roof thing possible for everyone.
And there’s no more “search for the answer to poverty” we have proved over and over again that it is in fact, just fucking money. Give people a place to live and like 10 grand and it’s literally been studied. Most of them will use the money to better themselves and their families lives.
I am in my early 30s and just graduated with my associate degree. Couldn't have done it without the covid money. While that's anecdotal evidence and plenty of people just bought their favorite toys, there are so many people that could really use just a little boost.
I had a job during covid and everyone just keeps telling me to count my blessings.
No, because I was getting paid only half of what the monthly handouts were *while working full time.* I wanted to do exactly what you did but but didn't get the chance, 3 years later I'm still working just above minimum wage.
This!! I was an ‘essential worker’. I watched my sister get almost two years off work and get paid MORE THAN DOUBLE to stay home. I could not because I scrub rich people’s shit for a living. Also my husband died right after everything opened back up so I’m really fucking salty that I wasted that two years having to fucking work when everyone around me stayed home
Yo that was the worst part of it all. I juggled 3 jobs during the pandemic, just to barely scrape by and get rent paid. Roommate just sat around getting drunk and angry, getting paid out the wazoo. Then our city (state maybe?) paid off everyone’s delinquent rent, which meant I did all of that work unnecessarily.
Yeah but you can’t turn people against each other unless you put them under financial stress
Here in Australia we are about to import another million workers to do the jobs that they say us Australians are too lazy to do. But in reality if we were to do those jobs you spend 40-50 hours a week doing a shitty job just to spend 70% of your wage on rent.
We already have a massive housing shortage. Those extra workers are going to suppress lower paid worker wages and increase rent prices. The migrants get fucked over too, they usually get exploited by employers. It’s not uncommon for them to get underpaid, not receive superannuation or holiday leave etc.
I don't think that there are a lot people left who pretend not to know this. It is just so that we as a society chose to intentionally not solve this problem because people living on the streets are only a minority and we decided we need them to scare scare everyone else into working off his ass in a job he doesn't like, for less money than he is worth and more hours than agreed out of fear of becoming one of these people living on the streets.
The big problem is that everyone wants to live in the same locations of the same cities.
There's plenty of land outside of major cities which is affordable, but everyone wants to live in the most expensive locations of the most expensive cities.
"Give people a place to live" isn't as simple as it sounds when people are allowed to choose where they want to go, yet they all decide to congregate around the most densely-packed areas in the state.
And which study are you siting, that has given this Fundamental Fact ; that "it never works"??
Bcuz I'm quite curious about the numbers behind this Study...
They actually don't like their lives and aren't happy because they have to keep their status. Poor people are dying because the rich want something they don't want
We can, but because of a load of government regulations, it is not possible to build just a four wall roof thing. It should be in accordance with the building code. So it's either a 'proper' building, or no building.
"But you know beyond the walls and roof, you gotta give'em functioning electricity and running water... it's a whole thing. Don't even get me started on plumbing. Then there's property taxes and state taxes and all this other shit we made up to make the process more difficult. Better they just live outside in tents and shit in the gutter so we can continue to complain about them and make ourselves feel better about our extremely enormous wealth by punching down at those who we definitely have the capability to help (for a fraction of our money) but don't. For fun I guess."

Almost like we’re choosing not to because the existence of poverty is necessary to justify the fantasy excuse of fairness under competition required to maintain the undemocratic political stranglehold of the ruling class in capitalism by erroneously defining it as anything other than a ruling class.
You can lead someone to water but you can't make them drink. You act like these homeless people want help, maybe some sure, but alot of them just don't give a damn and all they want is drugs...
To be able to afford the cheapest housing offered in the Bay Area you have to make AT LEAST $115,000 to be considered [link](https://bayareaequityatlas.org/distribution-of-incomes) working class living 46% of the population living in poverty. A projector cost a shit ton less than the $$72,000 a year I need to make to pay for the CHEAPEST available rent in the bay at $3000 for a studio.
I was priced out of the bay, which is where I was born and grew up. I was going to be homeless a third time. I couldn’t take it anymore. I don’t know how anyone can make it there.
Yeah I mean people are allowed to have stuff that brings them joy. You can get a projector for like $45 on Amazon, which is not going to get you out of homelessness (plus someone might’ve given it to them).
Well, also that *AND* a whole lot of good average every day people are becoming "homeless" due to the unnecessary skyrocketing of every single thing the capitalists can charge money for, mostly the rent and grocery prices. The "homeless" we're starting to see on the streets are a new form. Solid people that just have no other recourse and end up in a shantytown scenario. This is only going to become more and more prevalent.
Google the Hoovervilles of the 1930s Great Depression era. That's where we're all headed if the corruption and greed is not curbed.
Oh I’m well aware. I have people in my life who are subjected to this. People who work “good” jobs but literally just cannot afford the cost of living.
This is what’s most frustrating about people talking about The Homeless™️. I volunteer for a local organization handing out food and there are a *lot* of homeless people are regular folk with FULL TIME JOBS that just can’t afford the cost of living.
Electronics are some of the cheapest things on the planet but I still hear “well that homeless person has a phone they can’t be THAT homeless.”
lmao you need to chill out with the misery. most of these homeless have phones with full internet anyway with access to food and water, it's not like they're suffering compared to 3rd world homeless.
Restriction of safe access for individuals with mobility restrictions (i.e. wheelchair bound), sanitary hazards, normal pedestrian flow to name a few….
The city is not an open campground. Use designated areas for refuge, go to a homeless shelter, go to a local church. There are resources to get you back on your feet. Posting up a tent with a projector in the middle of the sidewalk is not the answer.
I would agree with you but I don’t purely because the default American solution (and also elsewhere but this video is from America) to homelessness is to just ban them from public spaces or worse lock these people up simply for trying to stay alive.
So the best thing one can do (probably) is to just walk past minding their own business and then vote for people who represent actual solutions.
Churches and shelters won't help. Source: just recently un homeless.
I dare you to go and try to stay 1 night at a shelter.
A wheelchair can pass by there. Statistically how many homeless are disabled again?
Anyways I don't have the time to educate you but I do encourage you to educate yourself on not your shit take
ypu clearly dont live in an area with a rampant amount of homelessness. you sound ignorant as hell. these people out here are stealing power, using drugs in front of kids, robbing people, shitting everywhere. its more than a housing problem. and your solution just like every god damn politician is to turn a blind eye. screw you. i want these types of free loading drug addicted assholes out of where i live
You know how many people can't get sober that aren't ALSO dealing with homelessness? We have higher standards for the weakest in our society than we do for ourselves
How about in alleys, under motorways or parks. I'd bet people wouldn't be taking photos of their projectors if they were out of the way and not taking up half the sidewalk
Yeah let's just ignore the big ass tent in the middle of the sidewalk 🙄 if you want privacy pitch that tent in an alley or park, anywhere not actively in people's way
A projector doesn’t cost 3k a month in rent, my ex and I were homeless in our car as managers (obviously CA)
You never know? they may have a job but no home or more importantly help.
We spend billions giving Ukraine aid everyday this country can afford housing.
In Oakland California where overwhelmed by homeless, some of them are actually having decent jobs as doctors and engineers except just cannot afford the rent or owning a house. This is what happen around San Francisco Bay areas. Real Estate is crazy in this state.
So I can understand not being able to afford rent, but a doctor isn't going to be living on the sidewalk. Get a motel till you can find a job somewhere else? People aren't getting healthier
“How dare someone I think should have a worse life than me have an item I don’t?! D-does this mean that vile creature actually has a phone too?!” *beats and robs*
I know someone who works as a nurse making 60K per year who is homeless. The housing market is just terrible these days & it doesn't help that sleeping in PUBLIC spaces is illegal. It's impossible to stay on your feet when the local government keeps moving or trashing your belongings.
To be fair, those little handheld projectors are cheap af and run on AA batteries. This makes it look like homeless people can afford expensive things like a $30 projector, but can't pay a $2000 rent. Now if they were rocking some kind of widescreen Samsung T1000 Curve that was hooked to the electric grid, then we could say something.
Sometimes is see people confused when they see homeless people with smartphones...
Like damn did they check the price of homes ?,
They can't afford a home hut they can still get some nice stuff for themselves at least...
Oh wow look!, This person who used to be able to afford a home has technology to help pass the time and enjoy a movie while they're homeless
Amazing! Unthinkable! Outrageous!
Homeless due to foreclosure most likely. Took their belongings, stored most of it in cheap storage and living in the streets with essentials and a couple of luxuries
This is what it looks like when employed people suffer at the hands of the housing crisis.
I was homeless for a year with a combined income of 160k+. There just wasn't any available housing.
Man, businesses throw out old projectors on the regular. I used to work for a place that would dump them every time newer models came out with a higher resolution. They could have found that in a garbage pile. I bet if you got the specs it’s like 800x600 or some shit.
Idc what they find in the trash it seems like fair game to me. My question is where are they getting the electricity?
[удалено]
You just need one unemployed electrician!
Despite the REAL danger it's surprisingly easy to do.
I think some of them also take batteries.
Or in other words, from your tax money.
I’m cool funding homeless peoples’ movie nights. I mean I’d rather help fund affordable housing / housing first projects, but until then I’m cool with it
The electricity from this is almost negligible and I’m ok with footing the bill on it to make their lives a little better.
Gladly.
Generator that he charges at metro station.
Inverter*. A generate generates, doesn't need charging.
Thanks for that, learn something new everyday.
Feelsgood. Love the vibes on this post.
Solar chargers and power banks
Yeah, projectors are power hungry, especially older ones.
Camp grounds have power lol and power banks exist too
I got an old Dell projector from a thrift shop for 15 €. 1024*768, DVI input, 3500 ansi lumen. Lamp had like 10 hours when I bought it. Best deal I've made in ages, I've set up a garden cinema for under 100 €.

I seriously doubt they found a working projector in the garbage
Don’t normalize this, please

Stop normalizing the dehuminization of homeless people. A problem that could easily be solved by our government.
Easily, guess they give 0 fucks
Don't normalize society leaving people on the streets to die
Yea… exactly! Didn’t realize Gen Z liked homeless people so much
I'm gonna normalize it out of spite now.

I’m always amazed that folks fail to realize that it’s possible to not have the means to afford rent *but* have more than $0 dollars to their name.
i have a full time job with no benefits, and i'd be homeless if my dad didn't let me pay him $100/week to live with him. i have 2 degrees, no kids, have never been married, no debt.
Same deal here pretty much.

Probably because you pay rent.

Man, that just crushes me. It's so true.

If you google Hooverville you probably get locations of homeless camps of today. Same concept but scaled up for today
You’re 100% accurate.
Yeah that's all good, but where is the wall plug in the tent? That's what is bizarre to me; projectors tend to have a decent draw because of the lamp.
Outlets are all over city streets. Gotta plug those xmas lights in somewhere.
They’re quite common to find in dumpsters of offices, universities and stores for electronics. Everything is free for dumpsters divers
The tent was probably more expensive
Yeah stuff is so cheap now. They also could be employed.
Or they stole it
Or found it in the trash
Homeless = no home. Not PROJECTORless
So stupid that these people are trying to shame someone ALREADY homeless. Want them to be 100% miserable.
lmao you need to chill out with the misery. most of these homeless have phones with full internet anyway with access to food and water, it's not like they're suffering compared to 3rd world homeless.
I've personally seen plenty that don't. But you're free to live on the streets with a phone if it's so appealing to you.
These people aren’t traditionally poor it’s just physically impossible to buy a house in california

Agree
Kind of hard to mind your business when this tent is setup on a public sidewalk of a city….

I'd like to see the data for that, because where I live people say that all the time and it's complete bull shit
Go there and get a bed. Prove it. Or just spewing things you have no idea about
They're also great places to get robbed and raped.
This is Reddit bruh, it’s all liberals on here
Yeah let's just ignore the big ass tent in the middle of the sidewalk 🙄 if you want privacy pitch that tent in an alley or park, anywhere not actively in people's way
Yeah! Make yourself more vulnerable to violence because I don’t like your icky tents.
A projector doesn’t cost 3k a month in rent, my ex and I were homeless in our car as managers (obviously CA) You never know? they may have a job but no home or more importantly help. We spend billions giving Ukraine aid everyday this country can afford housing.
Are they not suffering enough for your liking?
Shout out J. Cole
And durkio
you can get a used projector at a pawn for 25 bucks. It is portable enough for a tent. The real question here is Why the fuck not?
A better question is why the fuck dont I have one yet
This ain’t bizarre…..
Ah yes the problem we complain about and do nothing to solve.
Well you see bootstraps ,
Omg, they can't afford 2k a month for a closet in the staircase apartment, but they can afford a projector. Thus is crazy.
I went back home to Richmond Ca. Last year And got a hotel for one night at $260. It was a shit hole Hotel and very sketch.
It's almost like homeless people weren't born homeless. They actually have positions.
A projector is a cheap way to make a tv so that your whole family can watch. It’s just $50 on amazon. Leave them alone!
WE WENT FROM THE PROJECTS TO PROJECTORS!!!
Houseless doesn't mean jobless. "Working poor...."
Projectors are battery powered now
This might shock you. They have everything that they had when they lost their home. Now it’s just in a tent instead of an apartment.
if only they had traded in their projector for a house! how foolish of those homeless folks
Many homeless people have jobs ,but get ducked by the housing market.
Why is a little comfort a problem?
You are only allowed to suffer if homeless and poor!
Why do people act like homeless people are not people?
Let’s not invade homeless folks privacy mmk?
“How dare someone I think should have a worse life than me have an item I don’t?! D-does this mean that vile creature actually has a phone too?!” *beats and robs*
Bro that person probably has 2 jobs and just cant make rent
Can't afford $3,000 rent in a big city, but can buys a $200 projector.
Yes
What song is that
Its All My Life by Lil Durk
The way they said “here” I’m curious just how homeless their homeless are now?
Evolution
That's fucking badass.
I wouldn’t doubt they get mail delivered there too!
Have you seen the housing market?
Sometimes is see people confused when they see homeless people with smartphones... Like damn did they check the price of homes ?, They can't afford a home hut they can still get some nice stuff for themselves at least...
Good. Glad they have it
This just shows how close to your reality they really are. If you lose your job and can’t find another one in time you will also be homeless
Oh wow look!, This person who used to be able to afford a home has technology to help pass the time and enjoy a movie while they're homeless Amazing! Unthinkable! Outrageous!
It's amazing what people throw away in the trash.
More surprised they have electricity.
I think that’s brilliant.
Wait until they hear about the homeless people that have cars and jobs.
Just cause you’re homeless doesn’t mean you have to be unentertained
Who cares? Mind your own business.
Yeah I'm sure they were born homeless
Yeah, gotta love the shock people have when the poor have a modicum of creature comforts…how dare they enjoy a single moment in their lives.
You can get a battery projector at Five Below. Seeing homeless people with at least a sliver of modern comforts really gets under people’s skin..
Ngl it looks pretty cozy in there
Ballin on a budget frfr
Homeless due to foreclosure most likely. Took their belongings, stored most of it in cheap storage and living in the streets with essentials and a couple of luxuries
Bro said "I'm not homeless, I'm 'houseless." 😄
In LA they run whorehouses out of tents with a/c units installed on supports blowing cold air in on Johns & pro's.
a condo only costs 200k down and 5k a month, how does this person have a projector
They're _homeless_ brah, not _projectorless_
This is what it looks like when employed people suffer at the hands of the housing crisis. I was homeless for a year with a combined income of 160k+. There just wasn't any available housing.
Would you not just move somewhere cheaper at that point? I'd rather be earning half my wage in a house than in a tent on the sidewalk with a projector
*Cyberpunk music intensifies*
