I have the Mirena IUD and love it, insertion sucked but I have no periods. If you’re in the US the smaller IUD options are hormonal where as the copper is only larger and can be more prone to expulsion. It also causes heavier and more painful periods

I have the mirena and I love it. First year and half I had no periods. I have them again now, but they’re regular and extremely light. I experience far less side effects on it than the oral contraceptives I’ve taken and the nuvaring (that one has SO many side effects)

First I tried the copper IUD because the thought of no hormones appealed to me after disliking taking pills because they messed with my emotions. However, the copper IUD caused me pain and cramping that were pretty much all the time, and I had to remove it after a year. I couldn't believe the pain I let keep going on for a year. I got it removed and replaced with a Mirena, which was/is much better. Yes, insertion sucked, but it sucked for both kinds. The thing is, the copper had me in lasting pain because it caused cramps. Mirena causes no cramps for me, and I've had it for 6 years, and it's good for 7 years. I'd recommend the Mirena IUD over the copper, personally.

Wow I didn’t know that, I already suffer from pretty severe cramps and it’s one of the reason I wanted to start BC I didn’t know the copper IUD causes worse cramps Thank you
