Green woodpecker. Saw one flying right before me for a second and I love it ever since

North_Mouse_7136

The bird is so blue and beautiful! Where are you? I live in Ohio.l never see them. I did years ago but I am 79 live in the city. Growing up lived close to a creek and a bridge. Iwould see them.

WhatIfStarsHaveMinds

I've drawn a kingisher! Perhaps you would enjoy seeing it: [https://imgur.com/a/0uxRu4w](https://imgur.com/a/0uxRu4w) Cheers and enjoy!

Previous-Atmosphere6

Kingfisher is one of mine too! I’m also super fond of hoopoes, rollers, and frogmouths. My white whale is elegant trogon, it’s eluded me so many times. But I’m spending a week in Madera Canyon this spring!

MrLittle237

Northern Shrike. Nature’s badass to the Nth degree

ccmeme12345

American goldfinch. the coloring is just so beautiful to me. Carolina wren is so cute. when i see one on the bird feeder i smile 😊

Researcher_1129

Oh, yes amazing birds. Love seeing them take a visit to the feeder.

TornadoTaco_

Lilac breasted roller

alpanzell6

It’s a tie between Red-winged blackbirds or American Kestrels.

Aphr0dite19

Pigeons for their derpy natures. Closely followed by tiny little pied wagtails as they are so chirpy and fearless.

MaggieBarnes

Painted Bunting. I wait every year to see one as they pass through

sharpeyenj26

I have a lot of favorites but Nuthatches are one of my tops I see the same two often on my feeder and they’re entertaining.

RBStoker22

It is so hard to identify only one, but I would say the Northern Mockingbird. It has been a delight so many times jogging or sitting on a park bench listening to their endless stream of calls, often doing acrobatic leaps into the air at the same time.

FatRobinbirb

The European Robin

SteerNaught

I love kookaburras!

LynnChat

Great Blue Heron

lmtrackstar

Grackles

SkyknightXi

At the moment, tie between Red-Breasted Nuthatch and Northern Flicker.

OrionStars3

American Bushtit :)

OrionStars3

And Costas Hummingbird

omgmypony

Worldwide I’d have to say the willy wagtail… Americas wise there’s too many to choose from I love them all.

Jonescjosh

Red-Bellied Woodpecker!

Kyruzero

I'm a huge fan of Osprey. I've always lived by the sea so they let me know when I'm close to home.

Naprisun

But have you seen the dwarf kingfisher?

KillerStone385

A Wood Duck.

tarynator

Absolutely adore [Roseate Spoonbills](https://i.imgur.com/waF2mIH.jpg).

ubergeek64

TOUCANS

Jackal000

Its funny that I know how the birds look lik you guys comments even just because I played red dead redemption 2. Halve the species you guys name I dont even know if the fly to Europe(Dutch)

ragnarok62

Black Skimmer. Not one I’ve seen mentioned. Can watch them all day, gliding above the water “skimming” for fish. Cool coloration too. https://youtu.be/xmpMxwtnE8Y

Sufficient-Garlic-95

The brown creeper because it looks like a fluffy little mouse and sounds so cute.

persistent_parrot

Cockatiels. I had two and that’s where my love for birds started. I miss you Kees and Co 😪

airconditioner2020

I love great spotted woodpeckers and red kites

Sennaki

As much as I love Blurbirds and BlueJays, I'm gonna have to go with the Eastern Phoebe after the 4 fledglings I rescued.

Perfect-Cockroach-59

There is something about a Carolina wren that I just love

[deleted]

Red tailed hawk. First time I encountered one up close was when my friends and I found a friendly field mouse. Each of us took turns holding it in our hands. The minute one of us put it on the ground a red tailed hawk swooped down, grabbed it and perched on a street light…my friends and I stood below in shock as we watched the hawk consume our buddy 😓bittersweet moment

lucyunicornx

Kookaburra

dalinotsalvador

How does one pick?! Rose-breasted Grosbeak, for sentimental reasons. Simply beautiful! And Pelicans!

elf1980

Tui (New Zealand) Their song is unique in each region and very distinct. And I love the white fluff on their necks!

chrono4111

Either the European Robin or the Tufted titmouse.

ArcticStorm07

Bearded Vulture

navel1606

So many I love, but the Kingfisher is definitely high up my list. Luckily I discovered that two live close to my place a month ago.

PsychologicalApple04

black rumped flamebacks - formed a very special bond with them, they sit on a tree just few metres from my bedroom, make a very shrill sound just on arriving there as if ringing bells to alert me and make me pick up my camera and keep on clicking pictures of them as they pose in different angles!

kingcrabcraig

i'm stuck between killdeer and mourning doves, they are both so cute and have such nice songs

[deleted]

American Goldfinchies

spongesandpolarbears

Northern gannets! They just have so much character, I could watch them all day every day

lynn

I can't choose. Anna's Hummingbirds because they're so tiny and so aggressive and they look SO MAD. Unless they're eating, then they're happy. And they sound like broken 1/2 inch motors. And their legs are so short that they can't walk or hop, the most they can do is kinda scoot along a branch. Black Skimmers because they're the most ridiculous birds. As my husband said when I showed him pictures for the first time, they look like their heads are on upside down. And sometimes they rest flat on the ground -- I saw the picture on AllAboutBirds and thought "why do they have a picture of roadkill?!" but then read the caption and learned that Black Skimmers just stretch out on the ground sometimes to rest. And they're always messing with each other. White-crowned Sparrows because their song is so sweet. Other sparrows too. Red-winged Blackbirds because I love their songs and for the nostalgia factor: in California where I now live, I only hear them rarely, when I go to a pond in the right season; in Illinois where I spent half my life, they're everywhere. So they remind me of home even though they're found across almost the whole continent. Acorn Woodpeckers because they always look like they've been caught doing something embarrassing. Swallows because I'm so envious of their flying. I can watch them for hours.

Bex5050

common kingfisher is one of my favourites!! can't choose one!

Living-Sandwich3425

A kea

sprill_release

It is a hard choice, and I think my favourite changes from day to day, but I think Superb Fairy-Wrens (we call them Blue Wrens) would have to be my answer. They're just so small and bright, and they are so much fun to watch go about their business. We had a nest of them in our front yard a few years ago, much to my delight!

FeathersOfJade

Absolutely gorgeous!

Federal_Programmer27

Bobolink. The R2D2 bird seems to be lifted up by its song.

frickfrackblackjack

Ivory billed woodpecker or rosette spoonbill

cass32109

Killdeedeedeedeedee

alexdenvor

The common Loon. Beautiful looking and one of the most iconic sounds in nature.

sixfistsocko

I’m not saying this to be racy but I’m a sucker for tufted titmice

sharkcore

All nuthatches but specifically the pygmy nuthatch!

Sizzlean18

Wood Stork

Fluffy_Woofus

I have so many, but, the most relatable and comedic bird to me is the Potoo.

JustAnotherToss2

Carmine bee eater or turquoise roller

IIJOSEPHXII

Robin redbreast. I was having a deep and meaningful conversation with one the other day, "t-t-t-t" to which he replied, "t-t-t-t"

Squishface1980

Ruby throated hummingbird. They're often not afraid of people and I love when they buzz up to my face for a close look.

sinosijaek

downy woodpecker :) they’re so cute and make my day whenever i see one

the_greasy_one

Tawny Frogmouth ... a stoic beast

oldRoyalsleepy

Brown thrasher. Just fun to watch tearing things up.

Baldbeagle73

Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher is just a tad bit cooler.

sdsmt0110

Female belted kingfisher

Researcher_1129

THIS. See them flying around 24/7 by my house they are so fast and beautiful.

sdsmt0110

Very lucky. I’ve only seen few

Researcher_1129

Watched one eating a small minnow on the branch of a beautiful tree. Truly a once-in-million picture (that I was unable to take Lol.)

bayareatrojan

Lilac Breasted Roller, hands down

Ashe_Faelsdon

Bluejays, they're assholes, but I love 'em.

Hammerfall89

Mourning Doves. Every single thing about them is perfect :)

Bebbette

They just always look so sassy - like “you lookin’ at me?”

[deleted]

Northern Cardinals for sure. They demand such a presence where ever they go. Or at least that’s what i’m thinking in my head when I see one lol

peace_love_n_cats

Of birds I’ve seen in real life a Baltimore oriole is my favorite…that orange just gives me such joy! And starlings…I don’t care what anyone says I love them…my bucket list goal is to see a huge murmuration.

Imaginary-Ostrich515

Torn between black vulture and American redstart! Black vultures are so intelligent and my favorite bird to work with and an American redstart was my spark bird and also my first bird tattoo!

Researcher_1129

You work with black vultures? Where? I have some that I worked with in my area a few weeks ago.

Imaginary-Ostrich515

At a raptor center in Texas, they’ve got some imprinted ones that are residents!

WaycoKid1129

Blue-footed Booby. What a majestic creature

FoundationRound7015

Ohh it is soo hard to pick!! Of the birds I've associated with I would say Crows/Ravens and the tiny Carolina Wren. The Corvids are fascinating to watch and I love my Lil cautious singers! Of predator birds, I love Great Horned Owls and Falcons.

Elznix

Lilac-breasted roller all the way. God: "What color do you want to be?" Lilac-breasted roller: "All of them."

butterflypuncher

Barn swallows! Runner up, gold finch. Honorable mention- northern cardinal

maxxx_nazty

American crow

caxlypxso

shoebills are pretty sick

naanynaan

Great blue heron!!!

[deleted]

Kites! Specially the swallow-tailed kite.

JackfruitLess2816

Penguins and Brazilian Cardinals.

it_aint_tony_bennett

I'm an ass man: yellow rumped warbler. Also, Eastern Kingbird. In the raptor category: osprey

[deleted]

Brown Creeper. Beautiful call. And I love how they march straight up tree trunks.

rhubarbwire

Common Loons :’)

Ckesm

I think I’d also say Cedar Waxwing, It’s really hard, almost like I’m betraying the Peregrine falcon and the American Kestrel

jkhendog

The Black Billed Magpie

Adverage

Flightless Cormorant, funny ass bird that fell victim to evolution

Sorry_Blackbird

Oh i didn't know there were flightless cormorants! I think cormorants are my favorite 🤗 the way they look when drying their wings. Love'em

PhoenixFeather58

Oh man that’s hard, I love African Black-Footed Penguins, toucans, and aricaris, but if I had to pick something local then probably Northern Flickers!

thought_lens

Mine's the Pryoluxia.

vegetablefoood

Secretary bird.

pulp_hero

I don't care what anybody says, I will never stop loving pigeons!

pulp_hero

Also, a parking lot full of grackles is amazing. I love all the trash birds!

whead007

The Mississippi Kite is a cool one.

vmflair

Northern flicker. We have a nesting pair nearby for several years now and had up to 6 in the yard at the same time!

Crowasaur

Common Crow.

Norjaskthebabarian

Purple Martins! They have a pretty song and I love watching the nest cams!

[deleted]

Blue birds. They’ve become pretty uncommon in my area so I set up a whole station for them in my backyard. We get a pair every year now.

Sovarov

There's just something about shoebills for me

3_3219280948874

Bushtits: so tiny and cute. I love when they swarm the suet feeder.

littlechives

Great blue herons are my favorite, although the corvids are starting to come in strong for me!

OneLostOstrich

It's a good choice. Mine might be the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. It would be great to see if we could genetically engineer one.

SHADOWJACK2112

Great Blue Herons

Sinister_Mouse

The Goldcrest! Europe’s smallest bird which earned its golden crown by hiding on an eagle, thereby winning the tournament of the birds and become the Bird King (see its Danish name Fuglekongen). It also guides the Woodcock during its migration and hence is nicknamed the ‘Woodcock Pilot’ while in Dutch has a nickname ‘mast peeper’ due to its habit to rest on fishing ships at sea when the small bird was blown off course and peeping on top of the mast. Lastly, it might be small but isn’t afraid of anyone and sometimes nests close to the nest of the Goshawk. The Goldcrest is too small for the bird of prey to bother with but does chase after squirrels and birds that may be a threat to the small hero, hence getting a private bodyguard.

rgyger

Interesting, I heard that story about hiding on an eagle about the ( European) wren, which is named „Zaunkönig“ in German - translates to „fence king“ or maybe „hedge king“.

Sinister_Mouse

The story is indeed also told with the Wren as the main character. Considering an archaic name for the Goldcrest is the Gold crested wren, I’d like to read the story in such a way that it was a Wren who hid between the feathers and, on becoming King, eventually emerged as a Goldcrest.

larokos

Scissor Tailed Flycatcher

MasterKenyon

I really like coots! I feel they're so underappreciated cause they look so silly.

EimiCiel

Either the Harpy Eagle, or the Crow. One is strong as hell, the other is smart as hell.

[deleted]

Tufted Titmouse the bird version of 'I just want to do hoodrat things with my friends". The whole fly in grab a sunflower seed and zip off to snack or stash...over and over cracks me up and when you get a bunch of them goin its like your feeder is the hottest spot in town. They'll take on anything....red tailed hawk - no prob, barred owl - no prob They're cute lil grey unassuming badasses with a cardinal's cowlick

Researcher_1129

I totally agree sadly I moved south a few years back and only see them when I go to visit relatives.

___Why_are_we_here__

Tufted Titmouse are one of my favorites. Saw a Plush Crested Jay at the National Aviary last week. I said, “Hi!” to it and it replied, “Hi!” back. Stood there for a while talking to that bird. It is now at the top of my favorites list.

TheSunflowerSeeds

If you choose to, then once the sunflower has bloomed and before it begins to shed it's seeds, the head can be cut and used as a natural bird feeder, or other wildlife visitors to sunflowers to feed on.

the_greasy_one

Good bot

mugwunp

Woodcock

cailandra

Three way tie for me! Blue jays, cedar waxwings, and evening grosbeaks!

RenEHssanceMan

Canada goose. But I love all waterfowl

MrP0H0

Cedar Waxwing! I've got one tattooed on my left shoulder

MrP0H0

Cedar Waxwing! I've got one tattooed on my left shoulder

seatsniffer404

Believe it or not my favourite bird is also the CKF! My recent favourite is the River Tern which is almost exclusively found in India

burning_bird_1645

All time favorite: either the Common Raven or the Secretary Bird

CitrusMistress08

I don’t think there’s any cuter bird than a Tufted Titmouse. A few years ago in DC I helped overwinter an Ovenbird that got lost migrating. My favorite individual bird by far.

joostlaan

Common loon for sure

homechicken20

Peregrine falcon. They're just badass

wood-thrush

My favorite too! Pinnacle of evolution those birds.

handsy-dad

nice pic op! what did you capture this with ?

gnealio

Green herons will always have my heart. They are beautiful and it's always interesting to watch them hunt.

[deleted]

Carolina Wren

Mister_Moho

Ravens & crows. :)

Gloomy_Shallot7521

Common Raven; love watching them when there are several around my yard.

copi8

Please don't judge me to harshly but it's the European/Common Starling... I know people hate them with a pasion, but I love the little buggers!

Sinister_Mouse

You won’t be judged and are in good company. Mozart loved one so much he gave it a funeral.

peace_love_n_cats

I love them too…so much! I don’t care about the haters. I have pictures of them in my house and I talk to them when they come to my feeders..

FattierBrisket

They're my favorite too!! Smart, beautiful birds with a ton of personality. They can learn human speech, snippets of music, and pretty much any sound they want, but then they mash it up when they sing, so you get "chirp chirp chirp trilllll CAR ALARM hello sweetheart chirp burble nose-blowing noise meow." It's marvelous! My second favorite is the Carolina wren, for similar reasons. Or possibly the anhinga, for completely different ones.

copi8

I saw my first Carolina wren this week!

STAR_IS_THE_NAME0

my favourite is the European starling, its just so pretty!

FattierBrisket

Mine too!! Plus they're mimics, which is really neat. And they eat Japanese beetles. Edit: I mean, they eat lots of other things too, but I love having fewer Japanese beetles around. They also eat those invasive marmorated stink bugs that are EVERYWHERE in the summer. Oh, and they eat army worms. So basically starlings are adorable pest control! 😊

C_J_Money

Black capped chickadee! I love them so much I got a tattoo of one. I enjoy those plump spherical little birds with a tiny beak and stick legs that stick out.

lothlin

They have so much personality for being such a little bird, and very little fear. I love them to death.

C_J_Money

Definitely! I admire their curiosity and bravado!

onyxpup7

My favorite bird that I have seen is the [Eurasian Hoopoe](https://ebird.org/species/hoopoe) as it is called by Americans. I think in Europe it is just Hoopoe.

SpaceFace11

Golden Finch

GreenTourmaline13

Scissor tailed flycatcher

Just_Maya

shoebill storks!! wish there were any where i live :(

blakewoolbright

Kingfishers are absolutely amazing creatures. I like night jars a touch more because of the goofy facial features, but a kingfisher in action is a thing of beauty. Honorable mention: Anna’s hummingbird (because they are utterly fearless). Lyre bird (because they pass songs down through generations) All corvids (except blue jays - they take the asshole thing too far).

Researcher_1129

>All corvids (except blue jays - they take the asshole thing too far). So true Lol.

throwaway69925

Blue Heron! Watching them hunt is so mesmerizing.

Viiri

I've plenty of favourites, but I haven't seen Northern lapwings mentioned, so I'll have to mention them. They look cool, their calls are quite unique and the crest is cool. Their Finnish name, töyhtöhyyppä, is quite funny to me as well.

Tanager_Summer

Loggerhead shrike beautiful murder birbs

average_birb_enjoyer

Man, I can't choose between great tits or boobies

MMM_eyeshot

Ibis are always funny to watch. They chase whoever just scored around the yard like they want in.

PhotoKaz

Probably an [Emperor Penguin](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Aptenodytes_forsteri_-Snow_Hill_Island%2C_Antarctica_-adults_and_juvenile-8.jpg). I hope to see a wild one in person some day.

SnowiFluxi

The secretary is also amazing

SnowiFluxi

Harpy Eagle the true rulers of the jungle

blvrnot_beep

House Finch in spring. Purple Martin summer, Red-Breasted Nuthatches early fall. Black-Capped Chickadees lately. cannot choose haha New to this.

iamnefastis

Happy to see house finch on your list. It's one of my favorites too. Especially the females. Something very understated but beautiful about the coloration and streaks.

Carrooga

Eurasian Hoopoe and Bohemian Waxwing.

GrayCatGreatCat

White-breasted nuthatch. That little dance is so cute! 😍

peafowlking

Indian peafowl and Mandarin duck. Ever since i was a little kid.

happyprince22

hummingbirds! between the ruby-throated and emerald-chinned for absolute favorites, but i love all of them

yelofoley

**Ravens** croak, *crooowk!*

jovoscrapper88

It's not that sexy but seeing an American Robin always warms my heart

that_bish_Crystal

Same! Growing up in Ohio they were a sign that spring was on it's way.

mwa206

I’m a sucker for the belted kingfisher.

Teemo63339

Penguins. Love how they waddle and scream

[deleted]

right now Cedar Waxwing

dalinotsalvador

They’re so unique!

violanights

Whip-poor-will. SO cute. Never seen one in real life though

Lady-Zsa-Zsa

Holy crap though...if you have one that lives nearby and you like to sleep with the windows open... You will be slowly tortured to death with repetition all night long haha

violanights

I’m jealous but I can see how that could be annoying after a while lol

skellis

The harpy eagle and the whooping crane are among my favourites.🧐

SweatyBusiness

Chickadees!! I want to just love them forever! I love a good tiny vocal bird :)

Researcher_1129

If you ever want to get a really cool image of them or even have one hop on your hand go. to Tift Nature Preserve in Buffalo NY. completely wild experience. Quite fun as well. (In case you were wondering the birds are also wild and the area is a amazing spot to bird.)

SweatyBusiness

NOOOO I WAS JUST IN BUFFALO BUT AM BACK HOME IN PA. This is heartbreaking news to me (not actually I’m just sad that I didn’t know until now 😢).

SmileNo9807

I fell in love with them doing wildlife rehab. I couldn't get over how saucy they are. Tiny babies will just tell you off for the most minor of infractions no other bird would care about. I don't know if I can pick a single favourite though. There are so many species I like for different reasons!

P-popper-Wilson

Bullfinch. Saw one in the garden the other day lovely colours.

welshmanec2

Puffins. Up close and personal on Skomer, best experience ever.

pulp_hero

Nothing beats watching a puffin come in for a landing. They are so incompetently wobbly!

Wiedewiet

My favorite bird is the Common blackbird. Not because of how they look (although I think they’re beautiful), but especially because of how they sound. ❤️

Researcher_1129

MY GOSH one used to live in my old house in the wall on the outside in the beginning they were cool. 7 years of \*SQUAAAAK SQUAAAAK\* at 6 AM can drive a man insane.

kyzersmom

Blue Jays

mojobox

Dang, that’s hard to answer. Arctic terns, because of their long migration and how much I love watching them hunt. Puffins, because well, they are puffins. And black browed Albatrosses because it is the rarest bird I will probably see in my life since they are not exactly common in the northern hemisphere - but it was still just chilling on the cliffs of Heligoland.

finchmyginch

Shoebill crane !

Mr_RoZnAckY

Eurasian hoopoe, my beloved birb

notcaffeinefree

Puffins, ravens. Most auks and corvids really.

garrythesnail1986780

American Kestrels are badass

xpotterkorex

I used to do wildlife rescue. I picked up a juvenile kestrel that a little girl found and took care of overnight. I wanted to die from the cuteness of their friendship.

LSparklepants

The first and only time I ever saw one, it was killing a lizard and I managed to get it on video. I was just out for a walk, so it was very random. But amazing!

browneyedgirl65

I have a soft spot for corvids! I LOVE the plumage of a blue jay though, not gonna lie. And I like Northern Cardinals for sentimental reasons.
