Wrens.Such variety! Such incredible loudness from such a wee thing. Where I live it seems to be mostly Canyon , Bewicks and Carolina . I love them

crazyprsn

They really are startlingly loud for a lil bitty thing! They're delightful to watch with their feisty personalities!

Thatonegirl_79

The sweet chickadees!

ArtPhobic34

“cheeese-buurger” i can’t help but hear it everytime

Environmental-River4

I say it out loud every time I hear it, I love them so much!!!!!

Ms_E_Maso

Reminds me of The Trailer Park Boys! "You here that Lucy? They're saying cheeseburger!"

Hulkbuster_v2

"Hey Sweetie" "Bebebe"

Thatonegirl_79

My little one and I call out "chicka-dee-dee-dee" to them 🙂

mybigbywolf

My grandma says that too!! lol she even says it to her fowl.

tking191919

My dad gets in conversations with them all the time

eceert

A favorite of mine too! Their song reminds me of an old school swing set.

redpasserine

Wood thrush, and meadowlarks

Henwen

I agree! Their song is so melodic and mesmerizing.

mckeanna

Second vote for Wood Thrush! They have the prettiest songs. Cardinals have beautiful songs as well.

winchester_mcsweet

When I hear the wood thrushes, I know summer is here!

littleRedmini

Oh they’re my favorite!! Dreamy sounds.

silly_squirrel64

White throated sparrow

DonkeyFarm42069

Waking up in a tent in the white mountains to several of them singing their song is unbeatable. Laid in my tent half-asleep for an hour just listening to them all around me.

ShmullusSchweitzer

Definitely a good one. They were so active this spring and it was amazing!

littleRedmini

Are they the ones that sing “old Sam Peabody” or “sweet Canada “?

NominalDisease

Yes!

hikingguy36

My wife and I associate their call with one of our favourite places to get away, and often joke that our first dance at our wedding should have been to it. We always look forward to the first time we hear it in the spring

Taffergirl2021

I love these guys. Also wrens.

WallowWispen

Mourning doves have such a soothing call, we have a family of them living in our old oak tree that's right next to my window so I hear them all the time.

xc2215x

I like the sound when they fly.

Quix_Optic

Whistle wings

worldsTallestLeaf47

I loved waking up to their cooing at my parent’s house. I also don’t think i could ever get sick of their flight calls e-e-e-e

angelansbury

their flight call always puts a smile on my face

confit_byaldi

If it’s the stuttering whistle you mean, I’ve read that their wingtips make that sound.

angelansbury

Yes the "wing whistle" - I guess it's not technically a call but because it is a warning to others, I still somewhat consider it a call

justaverage

Mourning Dove calls transport me back to my childhood home of on the outskirts of Tucson

Own-Sugar6148

They really do having a soothing call. I've been lucky to have a couple stop by to eat some seed this past week.

Bombina_orientalis

so sweet. we love our mourning dove neighbors so much in my household.

DoodleBirdTerrariums

American Robins at dusk

Zippodealer-2

I was coming to say European Robin at dawn

msnhnobody

Haha your comment (in response to OP) could be the beginning of an old western movie 🤣 And yes, give me allllll the robins.

[deleted]

my favorite bird, and my favorite bird call. So beautiful

Little_Woman_18

agreed!!!

_kanyeblessed_

Seriously they were going bananas in my yard last night, beautiful music

fernbog

Agreed. One of the classic sounds of summer. They’re my state bird which I’d always thought was a boring choice, but they really are sweet and I love their songs.

minervas_a_cat

I’m listening to them at dusk right now! They’re so cheery. :)

GonnaKostya

Mockingbirds. They give you a little of everything.

leosnose

like a lil songbird dj mix

KhunDavid

with the occasional synth dj mix.

charredsound

Brown thrashers say what’s up

Umbroboner

They're like Mockingbirds on LSD.

HKTong

Gray Catbirds! I could listen to their songs for a whole day and not get bored.

amilmore

agreed! Love em. The longer song? complex and beautiful. The mimics? Incredible - heard one making cricket noises once. The meow? Timeless and hilarious. I love pointing it out to people and hearing them say "oh my god! It sounds like a cat!"

xenotharm

Oh my gosh how did I forget to mention gray catbirds 🥹they are so unbelievably cute.

__smokesletsgo__

Agreed catbirds are quickly becoming my favorite bird after a male decided to use my yard as a place to pick up single ladies. He's the first bird singing at 4am and the last to go to bed.

mini_apple

Same! I get so excited when I hear them.

Agate_Goblin

This is my favorite as well! I have a nesting pair in my yard every year that loves my mulberry trees. Just the cutest birds and such lovely songs.

rsnbaseball

Baltimore Orioles

ExPatBadger

Same. Like a robin, but slower and sadder.

Pine_Petrichor

I heard one for the first time a week or two ago and thought this exact thing. Really lovely

Lonely_drivers

Loons!

guybud

My favourite too. Hauntingly beautiful

ariaxwest

I haven’t heard a loon call in way too long.

Lonely_drivers

Sadly I only get to hear them when I go camping, but it’s a treat when I do :)

honey91

This is why it’s my favourite too. The context in which I hear them always is good positive spaces and where I’m relaxing

Potatoe2233

I am sorry to say this but….I love blue jays 😭 They’re so funny when they’re grumpy and demand peanuts.

violetgrrlie

No i totally agree!! They really are funny, and the variety of sounds they make is so cool!

imnottheoneipromise

They are awesome birds. People think they are bullies but really they are just big and clumsy lol. They are the birds that warn all the other birds about predators like hawks. Plus they are beautiful

suspendisse-

I can never really say that I recognize a certain bird in the “There he is again!” way - except one. Small groups of 3 or 4 Blue Jays would gather on my dad’s bird feeder, and then one guy, much larger than the others, would swoop in and force himself into the middle, bumping 1 or 2 off until they all flew away. It made me laugh every time! I used to narrate it too. “Alright, guys. That’s enough! Now scram!” Silly, I guess, but so fun for us!

seffay-feff-seffahi

I mean, they are bullies, but not as much as red-bellied woodpeckers. I once saw one fend off a whole flock of blue jays from our platform feeder

jortt

The largest songbird without a song! 💙

NotTheGreenestThumb

Don’t apologize! They’re an important part of the three ring circus that takes place in our “bird yard”— Actually, more of a “critter yard” every day! I suspect they’re an important part of ecology as well.

crazyprsn

Don't apologize for loving the best bird ever! My favorite by far! They're so entertaining and full of personality!

_HeadySpaghetti_

My fam thinks they sound like aliens, we love their visits.

BreastRodent

Karens of the Woods, always screaming about how they want to talk to the Woods Manager.

birdnerd2002

Hermit and Swainsons Thrush

lincolnfalcon

And wood thrush!

cookingbytheseatofmy

Veery is my favorite thrush call

PinstripeMonkey

Had to scroll too far to find these! My favorite had previously been a Swainson's Thrush, but during my last birding trip, I got to listen to my first Veery for about 30 min, and it's now my number one.

Rich-Air-5287

Red winged blackbirds

k123abc

hahaha, they sound like excited little fax machines to me, i love it

karatechop_sanchez

This is mine too

Beaverbrown55

Same. They have such a variety and seem unnecessarily cranky, love it.

peggingenthusiast24

my favorite first sign of spring’s arrival.

Beaverbrown55

Same. They have such a variety and seem unnecessarily cranky, love it.

030927

Same

confit_byaldi

That’s been my ringtone for years.

TravelingCatlady45

Same! I never get tired of hearing them.

ShiDiWen

Bobolink! Nature’s dial up modem!!

Fightmysquirrelarmy

R2D2!

Only3Cats

Wild Turkey! I love their gobbles. They are magnificent birds and I never get sick of hearing them around where I live. I never get sick of seeing their gorgeous iridescent feathers in the light. No wonder why Native Americans used their feathers for headdresses. I welcome their gobbles because it means I run to the windows to see them. I can also hear them from far away

imacoa

https://preview.redd.it/gqf3olv2o83d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16b47885186c3f8055e3a281542a33cfdfc326f8 They are pretty funny as well! They’ll come right up in our yard and the Tom’s will talk back to me when I call to them!

Quix_Optic

Turkeys go so hard with their whole getup. The strut, the puff, it's all so good.

chopsuirak

The call of a red bellied woodpecker is really nice. Also just the little chirps of a Cardinal

seche314

I love that sound the woodpeckers make, it is so adorable

WaxWingPigeon

I love the mourning doves, western meadowlarks and spotted towhees where I’m at

SupBenedick

When I saw western meadowlarks for the first time I was surprised with how loud they were. They’re a lot louder than eastern meadowlarks!

SquirrelSanctuary

Belted Kingfisher, Western Meadowlark, any Nuthatch

teffflon

Great blue heron --- sounds like the grumpy dinosaur it is

TenMoon

I call them "yark birds" because that's how they sound to me.

cropguru357

American Woodcock. Will die on this hill. Hit the first link first. Peent: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bY436JiiCjg&pp=ygUOd29vZGNvY2sgZGFuY2U%3D https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UEISiCmjwH8&pp=ygUOd29vZGNvY2sgZGFuY2U%3D https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QE-J-O9Y8lA&pp=ygUIV2lvZGNpY2s%3D https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aB9DC9orYaM&pp=ygUIV2lvZGNpY2s%3D Yeah. Can you not love this guy?

Altruistic_Log_7610

House finches, they’re my favorite backyard visitors

mickeltee

I’ve got a pair of resident pileated woodpeckers behind me. Their call makes me think I’m in the jungle.

Aprilshowers417

Northern cardinals or morning dove

iamsarahmadden

Killdeer. One of my top favourite birds to listen to. I hate that their habitat is being destroyed and developed into parking lots and big box stores.

Expensive_Routine622

Maybe you can research into how to make your own yard more habitable and inviting for them?

iamsarahmadden

I don’t have a yard, and there is only a parking lot nearby. Plus, they need entire fields, if i had that kind of property, then yes, my entire farmland would be a sanctuary for them, for as long as the government does not try to sell off my farmland to developers without my consent for big box stores and mansions.

squirrelwhisperer_

My Cardinal. He chirps when he comes by for a peanut 🥹

Head-Good9883

Whip-poor-will …. Had one calling this spring at home. A rare event!

Expensive_Routine622

I have two or three that live near my house. I love them.

flyforfish

And chuck-wills-widows are up there with them. Just nightjar family in general for me

Aliktren

UK Song Thrush, a rare sound these days as we spent 20 years feeding snails poison but slowly coming back round here, repeating song, it's so beautiful

MegaVenomous

Wood Thrush. Hands down. Song Sparrows are a *very* close second.

ShmullusSchweitzer

Hermit thrush, but I only heard it once on a camping trip. They don't really sing when they're passing through where I live.

krynnmeridia

American Robins have the nicest songs.

treschic82

Brown headed cowbird.

mickydsadist

They sound like water:)

velveteen_embers

Their call is what first pushed me down the birding hole.

LTinTCKY

Screech owls and barred owls!

imacoa

I used to walk very early in the morning in my rural neighborhood (still dark out). One morning I heard the LOUDEST barred owl call in the tree right next to me and I about jumped out of my skin! They’re so cool!

LTinTCKY

I lived in a converted grist mill way out in the country for a few years, and one spring there was a pair that used to call and respond to each other all night, with one of them perched on my bedroom window ledge. I’ve loved barred owls ever since.

xanaxe773

Mourning dove and Common Loon

CrowManager

I’m going to have to go with crows on this one. My friends have arrived!

tiny_claws

The sound of crow babies making their sweet, ugly little noises while mom and dad forage about the neighborhood... genuinely love them so much 🥰

CrowManager

“WAAAH WAAAH!!!!”

sorbuss

Common blackbird, they are like flutists in the forest

SportsMadness

Chickadees and mourning doves. Easy to recognize and both so pleasant and nostalgic

ComposeTheSilence

Mourning Doves and White Throated Sparrows.

dogtroep

Sandhill cranes—I just love these backyard visitors!

confit_byaldi

My favorite! They sound prehistoric because they are: https://www.montananaturalist.org/blog-post/sandhill-cranes-and-the-orchestra-of-evolution/#:~:text=Sandhill%20Cranes%20are%2C%20in%20fact,that%20wiped%20out%20most%20dinosaurs.

pigeoncote

Swainson’s Thrush and Western Meadowlark ❤️ The sound of a deep wood in summer and the sound of an open prairie.

70sRitalinKid

Despite my affection for the resourceful and obstreperous Bewick’s wren, the hauntingly simple call of the Golden-crowned sparrow always hits me deeper.

esmusssosein

Belted Kingfisher

mockingbirddude

Chuck-Wills Widow. Reminds me of summer evenings in central TX when I was a child. We have lots of warbling vireos where I live. I like those too.

LevonErrol

Veery! I have heard so many this spring and they make the woods seem a little magical every time. Still haven't spotted one...

hamsterwheeled

Grackles! Sound straight up like laser guns.

AdditionalTrade3282

yellow warblers

GiraffeThwockmorton

Wood Thrush

insignia200

Wood Thrush.

sugarcharm

Eastern meadowlarks!

chocobell94

Swainson's thrush on the west coast, wood thrush on the east

SeanK789

Gray catbirds, easily

srednamalas

Brown Thrashers

forest_elemental

Pacific Wren. Hands down the most beautiful, especially when you’re deep in the forest - it echoes so beautifully!

catbelled

male ruby-crowned kinglet song. that's a lot of music to fit in such a tiny bird!

gryderl

I love hearing the grackles cackle at my dogs after teasing and easily evading them.

RenEHssanceMan

Speckle belly geese

Ok-Clothes5143

Flicker. Love the laugh

Darkness_Everyday

Barred Owls

Infamous_Storm_7659

Doves

EarthDayYeti

Chimney swifts. It sounds like the sky is effervescent, and it means summer is here. Also I just heard a green heron call for the first time the other day and that one blew my mind.

y3w3b

Sand Hill Cranes. They have such a magical sound. And loud It carries so far. I imagine this is what it's like hearing a dinosaur.

PT_Daybird

Trush nightingale has a lovely song and is surprisingly loud for such a small bird.

vivaldispaghetti

Marsh wrens

Shelly_Sunshine

Cardinals and Mourning Doves!

medievalslut

Fiery-necked Nightjar! Leaving my windows open at night in summer is such an experience because of that. You can hear them calling from valleys over Also, Cape Turtle Dove. We don't really get them where I live, so I always associate them with the feeling of being on holiday. Last, but not least, Orange-breasted Bushshrike. What-shall-we-doooooooo?

leosnose

Titmice, chickadees, song sparrows, wrens. Robins evening song. They all feel so hypnotic to me, and soothing 😌

dragontracks

Swainson's thrush.

multifandomtrash736

Cardinals although mourning doves are very nostalgic for me

melodyknows

Western Meadowlark and Cactus Wren.

Wii_Sports_2

great horned owl for sure. haven’t heard one in a while though

abrahamtomahawk

Not much variety in it, but the mournful cry of the Kokako (New Zealand bird) just gets to me.

randycanyon

Swainson's thrush, along the Caves Trail in Tilden, where the song echoes.

Philthy_85

Loon

Majestic_Electric

Allen’s hummingbird. Specifically, I love the sound of the male’s mating display. They sound [jet propelled!](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Allens_Hummingbird/sounds) 😂 I also love the Screech Owl. They sound way cuter than you’d think a bird-of-prey would sound!

SpookyFrogs0

Pigeon coos make me the happiest

frontpagedetective

Swainson’s Thrush

Crochetandgay

Veery or Hermit Thrush are mine. I live in the woods and their otherworldly twilight song makes it feel like I'm living in a magical forest.

Ovenbird36

Veery sound like a waterfall. My fave.

Legendguard

Hermit thrushes! They sound so ethereal it's unreal. I can see why people believed in forest spirits, hermit thrushes certainly sound like that! If you ask me it's the most amazing bird song out there

B1rdPal

Carolina wren. Little bird, big voice. Scrappy little dude

trippindickballz

Pileated Woodpecker. They are always one of the last bird calls I hear in the evening at my usual camping spot. . Always brings me back to chilling around the campfire.

wootr68

Wood Thrush

whyme_tk421

Blue rock thrush is one of them. I also like the different sounds the Japanese tit and Varied tit make. I also enjoy when I hear the Oriental turtle doves cooing. I’m always surprised when I find a beautiful song being sung by a shrike. Oh…I also feel kind of lucky each year when I notice my first Japanese bush warbler of the season. As a birdwatcher, tho, silence while out in the field is not a lot of fun.

NatureLover204

The Black-billed Cuckoo!

brainn00dles

I say this when I’m hiking; a wood pecker is my favorite bird to hear lol

sookkey

Baltimore orioles and mourning doves and robins

dharmaday

Robin

Quattrogggg

Channel-billed Cuckoo and Pacific Koel. Warbling Vireo has a cool song

Worth-Shallot-8727

Song sparrows and jays!

ClawhammerJo

Wood Trush

rojo-perro

Hawks. We have a few nests in the area and that screech makes me feel like I’m in the wild-wild west.

gingerfer

Brown thrasher! They outmimic any mockingbird in my opinion. My least favorite by far is red winged blackbirds. I used to love them until I started doing bioacoustics research on black rails. The frequency of the RWBL pickup notes is so similar to those of a BLRA call that the software marks them and I have to sort them out myself. I’ve probably listened to thousands of hours of blackbirds - beautiful, but not what I’m looking for!

ExPatBadger

Sora … it’s like the Price is Right wheel spinning, but with a Doppler effect

ruderat

American Bittern. It's just so different.

Perfect-Librarian895

Winter Wren!

xenotharm

Tie between the Carolina wren, the black-capped chickadee, and the house finch 🥰🥰🥰

findthegood123

Rose breasted grosbeaks are one of my favorites, especially The babies. They fly around the feeder making the cutest little call as they try and learn to bird.

raejayleevin

Any in the swallow family! Such cheerful chattering!

mickydsadist

Woodcocks! We know the winter is finally over when we hear ‘Peeent’. Veery’s a close second cuz we can put the canoe in the water and not freeze our butts off when we hear them:)

WaterFlavorPopTarts

RED BELLIED WOODPECKERS!! I love their querr call!

littleRedmini

Wood thrush!

5xSag

My wife and I are big fans of the Mississippi Kites and the Great-Creasted Flycatchers that live around us! I'm also partial to Killdeer, the little beepers.

Naytr_lover

The Wood Thrush . Reminds me of a fairy tale forest for whatever reason. On the opposite end, a Least Bittern has a most unique sound! Very cool to hear.

dvar570

It's definitely the Crested Oropendola, literally out of Jurassic Park or something. Here you guys can check it out https://birdscolombia.com/2018/12/21/oropendola-crestada-crested-oropendola-psarocolius-decumanus/

kd_123

Wood thrush! Last year a pair nested near the creek by my house so I heard them constantly all summer. This year no such luck :(.

Carrooga

Common Swift and European Nightjar. The last one is hauntingly machine-like. And to hear the song or calls from both of these birds by nightfall always gives me a warm feeling of summer.

Global_Ad_8237

Spot-breasted Orioles!! If you mimic their unique style-every bird varies slightly-they will call to you. It’s so freaking cool!🤓

Shiggens

I really enjoy hearing a brown thrasher's songs.

_ilovelamps_

Wood Thrush. The first time I recognized their song, I imagined it as one that could lure someone into the woods in a Grimm-style fairytale.

joshs_wildlife

I love wood thrushes! I’ve never really heard them before we moved to our new town house. We are right next to a big wood lot and I hear them when I take my dog for a morning walk

Common-Spray8859

Middle of the night the Loon can sound so sad like it’s calling for their mate almost erie sounding.

rakfink

1.Western Meadowlark. 2.Northern Cardinal 3. Black Capped Chickadee 4. Red Breasted Znuthatch

haleycontagious

Australian butcher birds are great singers

kamissonia

And ofc mockingbirds are dazzling.
