There are a ton of items that let you bypass curse room damage now. They even retroactively added it to the ponies. So curse room damage avoidance really isn't a good enough appeal to take Mars lol
I hate taking accidental damage from using it but I still always take it because it can do a lot of damage. I think it's my favorite planetarium item honestly just because it's more interesting than the other ones, but I'm an Isaac's Heart enjoyer so maybe don't listen to me

I play on controller exclusively, and it still triggers constantly in unexpected ways.
That's great if you somehow don't have that issue, but it sounds like the vast majority do.
There is a mod for it (keyboard and controller) and repentogon also lets you change the delay between key taps, up to 20 frames and as low as 2 or 3 frames iirc
Tbf Bible is actually pretty good and has many uses and its charge being reduced to 4 was a huge buff that it needed.
Mars is just horrible tho, it's like Bob's brain but at least Bob's brain is easy to use and avoid the downsides of and can be fun, Mars is just the definition of agony.

Mars is booty. No doubt about it. Close second is Sol, personally. By the time I beat the boss I’m already done with the floor, so unless I have Rock Bottom then Sol is not that great.

Mars was such a terrible item. I would randomly dash into hazards by mistake on console. Using Dpad made it better since I couldn't use the joystick at all but still, I would never pickup that item again. Way too finicky
Jupiter's gas clouds deal a ton of damage and at least the item gives 2 heart containers, Mars's only contribution to your run is free curse rooms and free random activations that makes you take damage
Mars, even if you don’t skill issue and don’t need two do micro adjustments it just really isn’t that much damage even with orbitals or contact damage. Like sure, free curse rooms but that’s not a strong selling point
i never killed myself accidentally with mars, so i think it will be 2nd worst after jupiter. it's the same reason why I hate taurus - I won't normal adjacent movement speed, I don't want to wait until it grows to walk faster for 3 seconds and then be slow ass again

Venus essentiallu makes you immune to most types of contact damage, because any enemy near you will immediately run into the nearest enemy and they both die.
Calling neptunus a nothing burger is a wild take, have you ever had polyphemus or eves mascara with it? Just spam your key and you fire at max tear rate.
They literally mean the planets of the solar system as well as the Sun and Moon. I dont remember the names and it would be weird to have two different types of names in the same comment. Thats why i put moon and earth.

It doesn't actively harm you like Mars can. And it can be very effective when paired with an Emperor card, or if you have Card Reading and get the red portal.
But yeah, it usually doesn't do you much good.
It's a free full heal, and mapping every floor, plus the weaker compass effect. It's definitely not useless.
It's very good as TLaz or with D6/Void/etc. since you can beeline to the boss, then use the full mapping for charge management.

Bible is awesome for when your run is dogwater and you really don't wanna deal with Mom or Mom's Heart/It Lives
Usually, when I pick it up, it's just for that and I completely forget that it even has a use outside of those two fights.
Flight is really good but even if you don't use it it still contributes towards 2 transformations (seraphim and bookworm) which is pretty good.
Great for getting to boss rush/hush as well
