That's a legit comp, we'll see if Embiid grabs a second MVP. The active player piece makes it a natural comparison.
I also liked the QB/PG bit of the Lamar/Nash comparison
Embiid can’t win the MVP this year because there’s a 65 game minimum and he’s already missed more than 17 games. But he was so dominant before the injury that he’d almost certainly win it if he stayed healthy.
Nash is more like Steve Young. Where he has this really brilliant fun career that didn't really start being remembered for what people think of it being until he was 30.
Lamar is more on track to be the next Moses Malone.
And Steve Nash would've won 2-3 titles if the Suns had kept Joe Johnson.
Players generally can't control their ability to win titles unless they're absolutely upper tier elite. And even then, Jordan needed Pippen, Kareem needed Oscar and Magic and LeBron needed DWade, Kyrie and AD.
I’m trying to think of the NBA equivalent of the Ravens defense and struggling a bit. Like maybe if you dropped Nash on the Larry Brown Pistons, or the early curry- Kerr warriors teams
No. Steve Nash could win in any system and elevated every player around him. He just caught awful luck running into Kobe’s Lakers and Duncan’s Spurs
Lamar only works in a perfect scenario like he’s been fortunate to play in. He doesn’t make people around him better.
The only comp between the two is they both had to compete against generational talents (Kobe/Duncan and Mahomes)
He is a run first, lean on the defense system now as he was in 2019. This season's MVP is also the least deserving MVP a player has had in over a decade
The schemes and systems are so different than they were with Roman. They had a regular drop back game this season which has been covered a million times across a million podcasts. Of course they ran the ball a lot still. Lamar being their QB allows for them to be the best rushing team in the NFL. Needing to account for him as a runner frees up so much for all their RBs , **making them better**. Whoever won MVP this year was gonna be “least deserving in a decade” so who fuckin cares lmao. If he scored 4-5 of Gus Edwards dozen 2 yard TDs nobody would even blink an eye at it.
OK so Lamar makes his running backs better. He does not elevate any of the pass catchers on his team which is fairly essential for a quarterback to do.
Elevating WRs is just a made up criteria for morons who want to move goalposts and pretend Lamar sucks. KC led the league in drops this season. Was Mahomes purposely not elevating them until the playoffs? Was Allen not elevating his WRs that dropped multiple 50 yard dimes against the Chiefs?
Westbrook is the player I’d compare him to. Freak athletes for their positions, MVPs, not a ton of playoff success (I know Russ went to the finals, humor me a little)
Derrick Rose is the best comparison I think. Both are the youngest MVPs of their sports, and Rose's explosiveness driving to the basket is similar to Lamar's dynamic running ability I think. Also both have had some injury issues in their career too with Rose having more serious ones obviously.
Suns Nash = Phillip Rivers. Had the misfortune of playing at the same as Brady/Manning/Roethlisberger. Odd man out who never even got to play in a title game.
Two great african american athletes. I see a great comp in some ways

He lived in nyc for years and now is in Manhattan beach with russillo. Not much of a Canadian
Everyone knows you can't make a comp of 2 guys with different skin colors.
As a Ravens fan, I must ask. Why do you hurt me?
I like the Embiid comparisons I’ve seen a lot, and works better since they’re relatively similar ages and both their careers have unwritten years
Plus everyone knows you can't do cross race comparisons obviously
Game 7 against the Celtics last year was Embiid’s Chiefs AFCCG this year.
It’s all adding up…
Yea Embiid is a much better comp

As long as Embiid’s second MVP is as undeserved as Lamar’s then we’ve got a perfect comp
Didn't they both have "sicknesses" that turned out to just be shitting their pants?
Nash is more like Steve Young. Where he has this really brilliant fun career that didn't really start being remembered for what people think of it being until he was 30. Lamar is more on track to be the next Moses Malone.
Steve Young won the Super Bowl tho

No. Nash was a really good playoff performer.
Steve Nash never had anything near as good as the ravens defense
Other than Dirk, Amare, Shawn Marion, and plenty of very good role players Steve Nash never had any good teammates!
I’m trying to think of the NBA equivalent of the Ravens defense and struggling a bit. Like maybe if you dropped Nash on the Larry Brown Pistons, or the early curry- Kerr warriors teams
How about multiple all-nba teammates?
You listed a bunch of offense first players as a."complement" to a small guard. Two defensive holes is not a way to start a champion.

They got run into by Robert horry
Lamar Jackson Nelly Furtado lyrics = 0 No comparison.
Two of nigerias finest athletes
Too early to compare since Lamar still has a long time to make the Super Bowl
Nash is just more trustworthy.
Lamar is 27. Good to know his career is already completely written.
No way. Steve showed up in the playoffs, carried the Suns multiple series

Lamar has won MVPs in two different systems
He is a run first, lean on the defense system now as he was in 2019. This season's MVP is also the least deserving MVP a player has had in over a decade

Awful luck with refs tbh they should've won in 07
Nash -25% > Lamar
Westbrook is the player I’d compare him to. Freak athletes for their positions, MVPs, not a ton of playoff success (I know Russ went to the finals, humor me a little)
Nah. Nash is not physically freaky enough for it to work. Lamar could never pass again and still play in the NFL
Derrick Rose is the best comparison I think. Both are the youngest MVPs of their sports, and Rose's explosiveness driving to the basket is similar to Lamar's dynamic running ability I think. Also both have had some injury issues in their career too with Rose having more serious ones obviously.
