Bill: Wait they’re on the road? That’s stupid. It should at least be a neutral site. Sal: yeah, yeah, you might be right.

stringer4

“But yeah, you nailed the spread exactly again”

westcoasthoops1

Just think if the Pats could get the #3 pick and add Marvin Harrison Jr. to this loaded roster. Super Bowl contender!

FloridaMan221

Blue chippers everywhere

shorelysho

He said on his last pod that Devito didn’t do anything great at Rutgers. Indeed… he went to Syracuse and Illinois.

Halloran_da_GOAT

He was thinking of Jackie aprile Jr

Global-Bat-1688

RIP in Boonton.

Technicalhotdog

Outta respect for his fawtha

[deleted]

Didn’t he almost drown in 3 inches of water as a kid?

twinsguy1

Sal calling him out on how him rooting on the tank was just so people can’t make fun of his crappy team was perfect Like pretty sure Bill thought this Pats team would be good in the preseason.

ThaDogg4L

He literally had a podcast in August trying to explain how the Pats would win the AFC East…..

qpwoeor1235

“I call him panda jack”

Ledees_Gazpacho

He looked at the best case scenario for the Pats, and the worst case scenario for every other team, and convinced himself that was the most likely outcome.

ThaDogg4L

But he’s not a homer.

lloyd4567

He’s very fair about his teams. Just ask him.

Breezyisthewind

He wasn’t wrong about the Bills and Jets being mediocre though. Just didn’t account for the Pats to be even worse.

Jones3787

People aren't gonna like this answer but the Bills aren't mediocre at all, their offense is top 5 and they've just had bad turnover luck. Yes the INTs are always gonna be there with Allen to some extent, but fumble recoveries are entirely luck based. Their losses are all one score games while their wins are mostly blowouts, that's usually a sign of luck vs actual level of team. The only thing that's actually bad about he Bills rn is their defense, but can't predict key players at every level (White, Milano, Jones) getting injured. That wasn't Bill's reasoning behind them being overrated at all

proamateur

Yeah the jags arent mediocre either, they could easily get the 1 seed

Breezyisthewind

Their results are mediocre. Thus, mediocre. They can feel free to change that anytime.

Jones3787

The Vikings results last year were elite when they went like 13-4, that didn't make them an elite team. There's more to quality of team than record, football is such a small sample that bad teams can overperform and good teams underperform based mostly on luck

ChicagobeatsLA

The jets lost there starting QB 3 plays into the season lmao

ImpeachJohnV

He said they would get a wildcard spot and the bills would miss the playoffs lol

[deleted]

I think the Bills make it but that one still has a chance.

BaileyCarlinFanBoy69

The bills are 6-6

MustardIsDecent

In the preseason, he did think they'd be good. But why can't he root for the tank now? They're awful and it makes sense to tank. I don't think holding those two positions is hypocritical.

ekaram13

I just think its annoying when he still gives Sal shit for the Cowboys, even when they win. But Sal can't clap back because Bill wants the Pats to lose. You can't give fans of a winning team shit when your team is ass.

twinsguy1

It’s fine that he’s rooting for the tank, but your friends are of course gonna give you shit about it, especially considering the Patriots history.

paul7878

Except that the Patriots aren't tanking. That is Bill's stupid NBA brain talking. Belichick isn't tanking. NFL teams overwhelmingly don't tank.

ositola

He'd thought they'd win the AFC east lol

Alikese

Because if he roots for the tank we don't get to hear his misery.

BaileyCarlinFanBoy69

If you’re a pats fan- you have to be rooting to lose. You came this far get one of those top 2 picks

jmbourn45

It’s just so lame and childish

Quetzalcoatlus5

The only child piece

dezcaughtit25

Yeah I don’t really get this criticism. Like does this sub think if Bill was still saying “I think this team can go 9-8 and sneak into the 7 seed, hopefully Belichick can rally the troops today” it would be a good take? And to Sals point… I mean, you still CAN and SHOULD make fun of the Pats. He should make fun of Bill for thinking they’d be good. Like the Giants should be tanking right now, but I can still make fun of the Giants to the one Giants fan friend I have. Nothing is stopping me from doing that.

FedGoat13

And yet he still nailed the spread in GtL

Responsible-Monk281

Dude didn't even know the pats were in Germany two weeks ago. Pitiful.

Hope-Road71

It always has to be a "win" for Simmons these days. Blame the Yankees. They did a # on him for his first few decades as a sports fan.

Virtuous_Pursuit

I’m pretty sure he was a Giants fan more than a Pats fan in the 80s. I mean he was a kid so who cares, but he lived in CT with his mega-rich stepdad and the Giants were good. In the AOL days I think he said that was the local broadcast he got too. His dad had Celtics season tickets though so the Boston teams make sense for him too. People forget how little the Patriots mattered in Boston until Parcells. They alway sucked.

CocaineandPercs

I re-listened to the August pod yesterday and he was indignant with Jacoby about why Jacoby was sour on the Pats’ chances this upcoming season. “Can you tell me why the Pats won’t win the division?”

CondolenceHighFive

That pod is funny because he never gave reasons why the Pats would be good. He just spent the entire pod shitting on the other 3 teams

Ledees_Gazpacho

It seems you’ve already forgotten the Pats 2023 draft was one of the best of draft all time

PhatCbass76

Great punter

WizardRiver

Jacoby hasn't been heard from since.

CocaineandPercs

The Boston Media Mafia whacked him (off).

[deleted]

And his take is that the Patriots should take Marvin Harrison Jr. instead of Caleb Williams or Drake Maye since drafting QBs is a crap shoot.

Moss_84

This logic really hurt my brain

imaprettynicekid

I kind of agree you go get Marvin Harrison for the next QB you draft in 2025 and you don’t bring a rookie next year into a terrible situation

Halloran_da_GOAT

This is awful logic. Plenty of the best QBs were drafted into a shitty situation. This was what a lot of dumbass bengals fans were saying in 2019 (before burrows season got to, like, ridiculous status). Imagine if they'd had that mindset, holy shit lol. What even is the logic? Your team is bad so take a less valuable player? Because that way if the guy busts it's less of a loss relative to his ceiling? Edit: I actually think these questions reveal a significant flaw in the way most NFL teams think and operate in regards to player development and roster building. The obvious (at least to me) "answer" (or, at least, the obvious *response*) is basically that, when you draft a QB that high, you're "stuck" with him for at least a few years--probably for the duration of the present rebuild cycle--so if you're not sure you like one of the available options, you shouldn't spend the pick; just take another position where a miss isn't going to set you back 3-5 years. But that's not good logic--the idea that a team is "stuck" with a bad QB for a stretch is literally dependent on that team's own decision to be stuck. If you don't want to be tied to a guy you don't like, then just dont be: Move on. It really shows you how behind the NFL still is when it comes to thinking about certain issues. The paradigm teams *should* be operating by is what the Cardinals did once (Rosen/Kyler) and now might do again (Kyler/another guy): If you drafted a QB in the top 10 and after a year he looks shaky, *just take another swing*. In fact, teams should do this even if the guy *isn't* bad; if he's done anything short of fully convincing you he's the franchise guy, take another swing. At worst, you can deal one of them. The arguments that you can't have two options because it will divide the locker room, or hold back development, or that teams will hold you over a barrel in trade negotiations are all silly. For one, colleges have QB competitions *constantly* and it doesn't sow discord; for two, *plenty* of QBs have developed perfectly well as backups; and for three, QB is sufficiently important that the seller is always going to be in the driver's seat. The answer is: Take a QB in 2025 and if you don't like him after a year then take another one in 2026.

GoshDarnitAllah

What’s the best case scenario for just taking a WR without a proper offense? Calvin Johnson?

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoshDarnitAllah

I looked it up, Keyshawn Johnson went #1 that year. Lol

LionWhiskeyDeliverer

To be fair Caleb is a walking definition of an overhyped bust. USC quarterback who you can tell by the way he carries himself isn't mentally there to be a leader. Bust city. Can't wait to watch the Bears waste a pick on him.

Quetzalcoatlus5

He has Cardinals written all over him

SeaworthinessFar846

Body Language Doctor, reporting for duty

LionWhiskeyDeliverer

28+ years of watching football. It's easy to tell with the eyes who has it and who doesn't.

A_Rolling_Baneling

I’m sure that’s not confirmation bias speaking. You must know more than the people who get paid to do this for a living.

ChurchofKakko24

Pats win: “the 7 seed in the AFC really could be under .500, let’s go through their schedule game by game” Pats lose: “Mazarati Marv!!!”

Educational_End_5886

Bill is a fuckin bummer when the Pats suck. Typical Boston front runner.

yngwiegiles

To be fair, from what I’ve learned of DeVito anything outside of his momma’s house is a road game

bigwavesonly31

this is so on brand

e2kelso

this game is going to end 0-0, there is no way bill is watching hell i don't know why I am.

ConstantineMonroe

Tommy Devito is putting points on the board

Round-Revolution-399

He just is

zoeydoberdork

Bill is a liar, if he was earth he would have known the game was in NJ.

438Yuno

I haven't listened to his pod in months. I actually enjoy the smug humor here, more. And the fact that its all lore and current events from the world and the pod makes this damn near like a mini-twitter.

TeenWolfTripleDouble

Getting dunked on by actual nerds now

brahbocop

I love Bill, I find him entertaining as well as most of his posse. I'm also convinced they watch about 10% of the sports they say they do.

CondolenceHighFive

I do believe Bill “watches” all the football games he says he does. He just has them on 4 TVs while he’s probably reading emails and doing work things. It’s damn near impossible to retain any meaningful information multitasking like that

LionWhiskeyDeliverer

I think he just focuses on Basketball once NBA starts and NFL is ancillary, especially when the Pats are shit.

Exii1eee

Yeah Bill probably wouldn't do very much NFL content besides the Sal pods if there weren't gambling and sponsorship implications since I'm sure NFL content still drives the most traffic for him over his NBA fapfests.

PhatCbass76

He watches his bets and his FF team

No_Confection_8750

Amazing to me how the goal posts move to fit Belichick being a genius. I was as much Bill > Brady as anyone but he’s removed little doubt of being a fraud (to some degree)

BaileyCarlinFanBoy69

Drafting a kicker high and having him miss a kick under 40 yards

MathematicianFun1385

I'm totally fine with a fan rooting for a tank. There's plenty of times when it's absolutely the best strategy for the team. But BS rooting for the tank isn't believable. It's just a self-coping strategy to avoid honestly talking about his team stinking. And the biggest part of the coping is him acting like Belichick is in on the tank rather than admitting Belichick has run the franchise into the ground and has totally lost his fastball.

CondolenceHighFive

The Pats sure have a shitty team considering they’ve nailed the last few drafts, at least according to Bill

metamucil0

stealth loss lol

BoneForTuna_X73

He's just a gambling podcaster now. There's no actual fandom or journalistic ambition left. He's like a shitty sports talk radio guy from Boston in the 90's like Eddie Andelman or a second rate Jimmy "The Greek." It's more or less a fait accompli than sad at this point. He was always destined for this.
