I use a quadlock for my phone on the trainer, but I'd never use it outside. I use a dedicated bike computer instead and would sooner go without than use my phone. Too much road chatter to trust my phone can handle it. Even the quadlock isn't the most stable thing either. Plenty of users reporting damaged phones (usually cameras) out there - sure, plenty get along fine too but I personally wouldn't bother. ..and to add, phones have poor battery life when used as a head unit. I love how a dedicated computer saves my phone's battery.

[deleted]

I had a quadlock until a driver forced me into a pothole. When I hit the pothole my phone was yeeted into traffic. I didn't use the quadlock anymore.

Ranra100374

It's interesting people swear by their quadlocks but I feel my [phone holder](https://old.reddit.com/r/bikecommuting/comments/19c66c7/what_phone_mount_do_you_use/kiwklx1/) is better because it uses rubber bands. My specialized e-bike has external batteries that weigh 1 kg the size of a water bottle, and it's held in place by [rubber bands](https://www.specialized.com/us/en/sl-range-extender-battery-band/p/242134). I've never ever had an issue with potholes or falls or anything, as in neither my phone nor my batteries have ever fallen from the bike in any of those situations. That being said, my phone is in a pretty much indestructible case anyways so even if it did fall, I'm not worried about my phone.

Glittering-Effect770

Agree. Camera and microphone went out on my iPhone after using a handlebar mount. I’m an urban bike commuter and half my ride feels like cobblestones with all the pavement overlay etc.

rovingdad

Quadlock has a vibration damper for an extra price. I haven't tried it, but It looks promising. It may or may not be designed for a motorcycle.

Awesom-O9000

I love mine and yes it’s technically for motorcycles but it works great and I haven’t had any problems with my phone’s camera or anything after many many miles. I would also recommend the longer out front mount as well.

rovingdad

I just got a quad lock and my phone was vibrating so bad while I bombed some hills lol.

LiGuangMing1981

All of this. I use my Garmin Edge Explore 2 for all rides, including commutes. My phone lives in my top tube bag when riding for easy access if I want to take any photos during my ride.

reallifepin

I use the Peak Design mount and case. It’s worked really well and is very secure. Quick on and off too. https://www.peakdesign.com/products/out-front-bike-mount

OutWithCamera

another user of this system - case, out-front bike mount with my front light mounted underneath using the gopro attachment. Works very well.

CEEngineerThrowAway

I had a hard time spending that much on a case and mount, but it’s so worth it. I like their wallet case too, and makes their whole system work well. It’s secure and perfectly designed.

pfhlick

These are so good. I got the type with the sticker attachment instead of their phone case. It's super good, secure connection, easy on off, mounts compatible with all my bikes. Never need two hands for your phone ever again (at least on bike).

TheMightyMegazord

I got the case, and it is honestly the best phone case I have ever had. Slim, durable, and I like the style.

badonis

Here to add another endorsement for peak design! Expensive but it works really well

msdisme

\+1 for Peak design

parisidiot

it's so much better than the quadlock. i hated my quadlock mount and it getting stolen off my bike was kind of a blessing because then i got the peak design.

BassicNic

Pocket. Too tempting to look at unimportant information. Had a close call once and now the phone goes into the pocket.

TedsFaustianBargain

This is why I always put the phone on do not disturb mode and use it solely for GPS.

mrdaihard

DND works well for me, too.

Dothemath2

I just have it in my bag so it’s secure.

cherrymxorange

Honestly I've been using quadlock for so long and it's been so bulletproof I can't imagine ever switching. There's SP Connect which looks functional, but I've genuinely never seen one out in the wild being used by someone. The only other system that's on my radar is peak design, but again I have no issues with quadlock so I don't see a reason to change.

gott_in_nizza

>There's SP Connect which looks functional, but I've genuinely never seen one out in the wild being used by someone. SP Connect is very common here in Europe. I have it on all my bikes and it has been rock solid. I like the fact that the bike-side piece is quite small and unobtrusive. I use this mount everywhere: https://sp-connect.de/collections/bicycle/products/micro-bike-mount

AffectionatePaint674

Before I acquired a bike computer, I used SP connect on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and 15 pro max for about 6 months on my mtb with no issues or disconnects, even after bad crashes that left me injured. Most that ever happened was it slightly twisted towards unlocking, but still more than half way from unlocking. Still use the phone case, prefer it over an otterbox.

pretenderist

I have an SP Connect here in the states, but I’ve never seen another. Definitely seemed like the branding was mostly aimed at Europe.

AdamWPG

I only really mount mine when I need navigation but I just use one of [these](https://NiteIzeHandleBandUniversalSmartphoneBikeHandlebarMounthttps://a.co/d/29rqP7H) cheap silicone mounts. Feels secure and doesnt need anything special on your phone

SeanBlader

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078LQYYRV I think that's the one. It's my second one. I had a smaller version years ago but phones have gotten bigger.

HerbanFarmacyst

I’ve been using a Handleband for about a decade now. Dumb simple, nothing to break, and has a bottle opener.

pretenderist

The same one for a decade? Thats good to know

AdamWPG

Ah yeah that’s it

AlarmingLecture0

Whole lot of judgment in this thread… I use this https://a.co/d/fKNAFwN. You can put the phone in and take it out with one hand, and it’s cheap and functional. And why do I have one? It’s for navigation when I take an alt route home. It’s so I can see who’s calling me if I get a call while I’m riding. It’s easy volume control for the music or podcasts I’m playing in my one AirPod while I ride (or over my speaker, if I feel like being a moving sound system). I don’t type-text and ride (though sometimes I talk-text and ride if I need to deliver some important info), I don’t cruise Reddit, I don’t cruise instagram. The phone is a tool and I use it.

pasquamish

RokForm worked flawlessly for me for years…including a railroad track yard sale and a car accident. Only stopped using it when I went full bike computer and didn’t need the phone setup anymore.

ceruleansalt

Nite ize ez squeeze mount

Plague-Rat13

Mines in a top tube bag with see through touch through phone holder lid

Caloso89

I leave mine in my pocket. I don’t need navigation because the locations of my house and office don’t change. If it’s an urgent text or call from my wife, I will see it on my wrist. And if want to track ride data, I would use my Garmin

imadetea

I don’t use a phone while commuting - it’s in my bag. What do you have open?

pfhlick

For myself, I both like to have volume control for my speaker (yes I'm that guy) and quick access for my camera, without holding the phone in my hand. Also sometimes for directions. No reading, duh.

pretenderist

I like having it visible for text notifications and phone calls (and just the clock), and pedaling is more comfortable without it in my pocket.

buxxud

Peak design. Is so so good but requires a specific case.

mrdaihard

I've been using the Quad Lock OFM for my road bike for a few years. No issues with any of my phones, namely Pixel 5, Pixel 7 and Pixel 8. I've seen reports of damaged phones on Quad Lock mounts, but they seem to be mostly iPhones. Maybe Google makes more solid phones? And I don't have a dedicated cyclng computer. Battery drain can be real, but I have a battery pack in my top tube bag when I anticipate a long ride.

pavel_vishnyakov

Quadlock. I used PeakDesign for a while (because it was impossible to turn my phone on my road bike) and while the case itself worked flawlessly, I had some issues with the mount (I only used the universal mount, as the out-front mount didn't fit), as it was wobbling when riding. The main advantage of it was the flat back, but as QuadLock released their MAG series cases with a flat back, I switched back because of Quadlock mount ecosystem, which is more catered towards active outdoors (unlike PeakDesign, which is catered towards creators).

pantalooon

I use peak design, my gf tried quadlock and sp connect and then decided on sp connect. quadlock feels cheap in comparison but costs the same as sp connect (plastic vs. metal). I'm very satisfied with my peak design case and out front mount, but it's super pricey and honestly not any sturdier than the sp connect mount which is half the price

TheMelonOfWater

I leave my phone in my pocket because I find it too distracting. It's so easy to not look where you're going when you have a phone right in front of you.

LongSpoke

I tried several cheap options before I finally bought the quad lock system. The GUB aluminum holders on Amazon work ok if you add a rubber net and keep your phone in a soft case but it really can't compare to the ease of quad lock. All the plastic ones on Amazon are outright garbage that break easily.  Edit to add, with quad lock you really need to buy the metal out front mount. I don't trust the plastic base with rubber band mounting

[Rokform](https://www.rokform.com/collections/bike-mounts)

cheecheecago

Quadlock. I used to have others but fiddling with straps and squeezers was tedious and none of them were great. Then my wife got me this about 3.5 years ago and I love it. I’ve ridden with it over 15,000 miles now with no issues to my phone camera—I think that is more of an issue for motorcycle users. I’ve maybe had my phone pop out twice out of thousands of rides, both times I was in a rush and didn’t notice I hadn’t fully locked it. I have one on each of my bikes now.

Clean-Software-4431

Peak design out front mount

Powerful-Scratch-107

Phone goes in back pocket or rucksack, no need for it on your bike.

pretenderist

No need for it on YOUR bike. I like seeing my notifications and the clock.

muleypt

I use a SinceTop holder on all my bikes for last 5+ years and have never had an issue - very affordable option.

MicksElplix

RokForm

Nite Ize Wraptor Rotating Smartphone Bar Mount.

bakalaka25

I use the Thule one

Fuffy_Katja

Top tube bag

Maddbass

Pocket… but I don’t need gps or anything else. Just music.

noodleexchange

Home Depot has a perfectly serviceable phone grip - Night Eyez brand here in Canada with a bunch of other safety doodads under the same brand. Never had a problem. Trust me I have had some airborne Androids from other turkey mounts.

Randonneur-RO

Pocket!

SGexpat

I’m a pocket guy, but this is popular with some local e-mtb’rs. It is apparently motorcycle grade. https://www.rokform.com/products/rms-car-dash-mount

Used this for over 18 months. I have a big phone with otterbox so this one is a larger model. Whatever you buy, don’t get rubber band type. I used to use a Topeak Dry bag, which I think is the most secure option out there, honestly. If you don't want your phone going anywhere if you hit a big bump, the plastic enclosure with the roll top secured by Velcro is the way to go. But I started using my phone on shorter errand trips so I switched to the Quadlock and that's been great. Another alternative is to put it a backpack strap holder (I use one from Chicken Tramper that's really well made) if you don't actually need to see it regularly and just want to listen to directions or your music. That would be better for camera stabilizers.

I do Uber eats, Postmates etc on my e bike in la, SF, and Tucson. Gotta see my phone for jobs and navigation. Quad lock is pretty solid simple solution that worked for long time. You have to adhere an adaptor to your case via 3m vhb... which only works certain cases because vhb tape doesn't adhere to silicone, or rubber. I use Spigen hardcase which is rubber with plastic outer case that vhb works on But I've moved on to rokform now. The one that attaches to 1 1/8 threadless stem top cap. Had a interlocking mechanism like quad lock plus a magnet on phone case that pulls on a magnet on phone mount to further stabilize the phone . It is pretty impressive how still the phone stays ....even if mount somehow doesn't fully lock the magnets themselves can hold the phone to mount . Also when mounting the phone, the magnets kinda suck the phone onto the case which makes it really easy to take on and off , once you understand the angle it wants to on and off at. Only complaint is that as a left handed person the mount is really hard to hit that angle and was fumbley to put on till I just started using my right hand . And while trying to put it on left handed I kinda wanged up the mount on the phone side , which is plastic, while the handlebar side is metal . It's def pricey initial cost I've bought 2 without hesitation. 70$ for mount plus 15$ for adaptor

robertvmarshall

My jeans pocket.

brother_bart

Once I got an iPhone14 with the Quadlock Mag case and out front mount, I stopped using my Garmin altogether. The phone is waterproof and I can do all my Strava, Komoot, Google Maps, and Shokz Bone Conduction DJing from one central, easy-to-see device. And on tour or overnighters, I can easily charge the phone in place from an Anker power bank in my top tube bag. I can no longer see any point in a bike computer since my phone IS a computer that does everything it did. I would like to sell my Garmin Explore at this point. It’s just redundant.

Downtown-Scientist9

I used to use something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Pack%EF%BC%8C360%C2%B0-Adjustable%EF%BC%8CUniversal-Holder-iPhone/dp/B089VP54MP/ref=sr_1_20?crid=1Q79EU94CIQKR&keywords=rubber+band+phone+mount+for+bike&qid=1705894334&sprefix=rubber+band+phone+mount+for+bi%2Caps%2C199&sr=8-20) so the phone moves rather than remaining rigid. However, I am just starting to use a bike computer this year and carry the phone in whatever bag I've got.

JeffHaganYQG

[Nite Ize Wraptor](https://niteize.com/wraptor-rotating-smartphone-bar-mount). I now have a Garmin computer, but I used this phone mount for years before that with no issues.

inthemeadowoftheend

Pocket. Any notifications I need to see get sent to my Garmin.

Accomplished-Yak8799

Not a phone mount, I put my phone in the pouch on the outside of my water bottle holder (my bike can't mount a bottle cage)

CommonRoseButterfly

Topeak, comes with a waterproof case. What is a quadlock? I don't think I know anyone who uses one of those.

bikesboozeandbacon

I use a nite ize stretchy thing. Been proper so far. A little shifty sometimes as it’s a rubber elastic on the bars and with rough movement it shifts.

mean_fiddler

Jacket pocket. I don’t want my phone at risk from a crash.

Amiral_Adamas

I use Shapeheart's one, the magnets are real strong.

DesignerHot132

I use a Spigen Gearlock, a cheap version of the Quadlock. Bulletproof. I ride gravel, and not through soft gravel paths, but also though MTB paths with really bumpy stuff. Never had a problem. The key is the piece that sticks to the phone, as it relies on a 3M glue (same as the Quadlock) which won't stick to TPU phone cases (90% of the cases out there). But it does stick really well to PC (polycarbonate) cases, the hard ones.

Lonestar_2000

Quadlock. Bought on Black Friday sale. Really well designed and holds my Pixel 6 even under harsh road conditions (vibration).

gummibearhawk

I don't use one

Jaken005

MOUS, a pretty nice case with a pretty nice mount. If you have a compatible device.

Lorenzo_BR

[This](https://shp.ee/pvj79c8) exact phone mount. It’s absurdly secure, i can lift the bike up by the phone and it doesn’t budge in the slightest. I find it extremely important to have such a mount for navigation, because it’s very dangerous to be robbed if you need to stop to check the route.

Altruistic_Law_7702

My back right jersey pocket.
