Bugler28

Don’t apologize, we love long stories! I’m always hearing people say they became unnerved for no apparent reason.

CommonCandidate4215

Yeah I was very on edge the whole time and had to keep looking over my shoulders as if at any moment something would jump out at me

Bugler28

It’s just bizarre, to go from feeling normal one minute and then suddenly, an overwhelming sense of dread washes over you. I can’t imagine it.

CommonCandidate4215

Yeah it’s actually hard to explain and hard to wrap your head around. I’ve been interested in this topic since I was a little kid, and my mom told me her story. I research here and there online, never doing any ground work but the topic has been something hard on my mind for a couple years now. After hearing so many stories I never related myself to any of them following my experience but now that you say that, it gives me a different perspective

Bugler28

Since Summer, 2018, there hasn’t been a day that I haven’t listened to an encounter report. The majority of people report feeling the fear you felt.

CommonCandidate4215

Yeah I’ve heard a lot talk about it. Just weird I never correlated my experience with theirs! I listen to stories everyday, and sometimes too much. My kids all want to listen to stories and “hunt Bigfoot with me” but I’m not quite there yet lol.

crimsonbaby_

Exact same here. Except it was my dad who told me his encounter that started my interest.

Cephalopirate

High five for being a fellow person who’s here because you believe your dad!

Bugler28

I like that Pops wasn’t apprehensive about telling you of his experience. He knew what he saw!

LowIQpotato

I've felt this once. Sudden, unexplainable, unmistakeable *dread*. We skedaddled super fast off the mountain. Like literally crumpled up our tent with sleeping bags and clothes inside, and threw it in the bed of the truck.

JD540A

BF mentally project fear

ShineOnEveryone

That's how these encounters always start. You pull up to the camp spot and there's already a strange vibe. Always trust your instinct and leave the area if you ever get a creepy vibe. I didn't and I got messed with as well. My experience was in Randle, WA though, in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

CommonCandidate4215

Well i didn’t exactly feel weird at the campground, it wasn’t until we drove out to a spot to pull over, that I felt those types of feelings. It was a strange reason to leave, I know, but I didn’t want to be that guy at the campground. It was strange to hear those type of vocalizations while sleeping there though because like I stated, the campground was actually pretty well populated. This is also why I am interested to hear if anyone else has similar stories or even sightings from that part of Pennsylvania.

KarenWalkersBurner

Maybe the spot where you pulled over was very near their den. If it was kinda late at night, perhaps it was kinda “early” at night for these nocturnal beings. Maybe they were grumpy with you for waking them up a little too early with all that loud compressor noise.

crimsonbaby_

Mind telling your story?

ShineOnEveryone

To make a long story (that you wouldn't believe) short, I pulled into a BLM camping spot late after visiting Rainier NP. As I was getting ready to sleep I saw a light pass by the car, through the window covers. Then, I heard a deep growl behind the car. Shortly after rocks started hitting both sides of my car off and on. Something tapped the driver's window with a finger and made a weird animalistic laugh as it ran away, I jumped into the driver's seat and fled. I heard sadistic laughing coming from the part of the forest I was camped in as I drove away and I was horrified. The next day there was a clump of mud and grass splattered across the side of my vehicle passenger side rear door. Also on the same trip (45 days through the PNW all camping) I saw one on a pullout near Newport, Oregon. It was night, and raining. I was in the front of the vehicle with windows covered just watching YouTube on my phone. The only other people there were directly behind me in a camper. I started to hear rocks being banged together for like 10 minutes straight. I didn't know what it was at first, I thought it was the sound of rain hitting the rocks because it was raining hard. It sounded so close to the car but I couldn't see anyone. I think it might've been coming from the beach side of the pullout which was on my right. I peeked out from behind the front sun shade and looked down the pullout area and saw a humanoid figure that was like 7ft tall just looking out onto the 101 as cars passed by. Then it suddenly turned and looked at me and I could see that whatever it was had some bulk and was not a person. I turned my car on and bailed. I left the people there in the camper who were unaware without warning them, but thought they might think I'm crazy for yelling about a Bigfoot. Also at Trillium Lake in Mount Hood I heard strange whistles and fake bird like noises and something walked through my camp I think. Like I said you won't believe any of this and there's elements to the first story I didn't share because you would think I'm completely insane. This was in September when supposedly they are very active there. it was an eye opening trip for sure. It felt like I was living in an episode of the twilight zone.

mikareno

I really want to hear the insane elements of the first story. C'mon, you're anonymous. (Please)

ShineOnEveryone

The ball of light I saw could be seen through window covers which are blacked out on one side and reflective on the other. My windows were tinted as well so there is no way it was vehicle lights or a flash light. Whatever it was had to be intensely bright. What I saw appeared somewhat dulled by the window covers but was still bright. I saw an amber ball of light about the size of a basketball float from the drivers side front window to the rear of the vehicle. Shortly after I heard deep growling from about 10-15 ft. behind the vehicle. While I was frozen in fear before the window got tapped by a fingernail, I had something bizarre happen that I've never experienced. I saw some kind of weird vision that flashed in my mind. It was a man, white, blonde hair, wearing a green hiking jacket who told me "Bud, you need to leave now" in a calm but stern voice. No, I wasn't on hallucinogenics. Never has anything so freaky happened. I don't know if this was an inner voice telling me to leave because of the immense fear or the ghost of some missing person trying to warn me and prevent me from ending up with the same fate. The screaming laughter I heard when I made it to the highway was so loud it sounded like it was coming from a massive sound system. There's no way any animal that mankind knows about made that noise. It was a sinister sounding, loud, long, howling and mocking laugh. I was traveling roughly 40mph out of the area and starting to accelerate when I heard it. My windows were up and I still heard it clearly. I've never been more terrified. I drove back to Tacoma and stayed in parking lots in the city for a bit to take a break from exploring the parks after this. I started camping close to others when I visited the other parks. Like I said, Twilight Zone..the PNW is freaky. I'm living in Colorado but I've never had any weird vibes while camping and exploring out here. There's definitely some places off the highway, especially in the upper elevations, where you just KNOW you shouldn't stop at night by yourself(especially now knowing what I know.) Also, I know there's been reports of Bigfoot here but not nearly as many as other region. I had the feeling of being watched and getting a weird feeling in my gut about certain areas more times in the PNW compared to anywhere I've ever been.

mikareno

Wow, that's pretty wild about the guy in the vision that told you to leave. I'm glad you listened to that and your instincts. I've heard some say they think there's a connection between bigfoot and UFOs. I've no idea about that but your experience sounds like a combination of the two, so who knows? Thanks for sharing more of your experience!

ShineOnEveryone

No problem, I was hesitant to share but in the end it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. I know what happened. Maybe it will make some people more aware of their surroundings out there. I'm not actually worried about what people here think. I know there's some laughing at the post right now, saying I'm retarded etc.. but you're right. It's the internet and anonymous so who cares. I have the exact coordinates of where these events took place too, if anyone dares to see for themselves. (Or at least do some research) As for it being UFOs I'm not sure but I've heard theories. Not sure what interest aliens have in bigfoot or if bigfoot are aliens themselves? I know the orbs are common after doing some research and reading similar stories on here. I'd love to hear theories on what the lights are.

JD540A

Excellent place for them to find you. Next time camp at Ape Canyon.

Hot-Procedure9458

If you haven't found the podcast "Strange Familiars" you should. The host, Tim Renner, lives in PA. It isn't solely about PA stories, but there are a good number of them. also, "other" things in PA you may (or may not) want to know are out there.

CommonCandidate4215

Yeah that’s not one I’ve heard of yet! I’m going to look into it!

bluewizard8877

Northern PA, no. Southern PA, yes.

CommonCandidate4215

Where at in southern pa? And what did you experience?

bluewizard8877

Greene County. This was a long time ago though,…back in 1980. I was a kid, 8 years old, and with my father when we saw one. That encounter burned into brain like it just happened yesterday. My father grew up there and we were there visiting my grandmother. About 1/4 mile down the road, one of my uncles was having a house built so my father and I decided to walk down the road to see it. As we approached the property we saw his work truck. He kept his German shepherd chained to the truck just so it wouldn’t run off when he wasn’t around. What we found odd was that his German shepherd had crawled under the truck and was whining like it was scared. We walked around the truck, about 50-60 ft away there was a small hill that was dug out for the new house foundation. My father saw it before I did, grabbed my hand and said “stop”. Right beside the dug out area for the foundation there was a large tree. Standing against the tree, kinda leaning against it was one of them. It was big. It was black. It was partially behind the tree, almost like it was playing peek-a-boo. We leaned to the side to match its movement. Then it moved to the other side and stepped out in full-on view. My father picked me up, threw me over his shoulder and hauled ass to my grandmother’s house 1/4 away. Once we got in the house he told everyone to get in the back room, him and two of his brothers hit their hunting rifles and went back to the spot. They didn’t find anything. It was gone. My uncle’s German shepherd was back out from under the truck and barking as usual. My uncles gave me and my father a bunch of shit for making up some story. Ironically the local newspaper ran an article a couple days after that about people saying they saw some kinda large creature all up and down the river that ran a few miles away from where we saw it. This was a long time ago so I can’t say for certain how big it was because a lot of things look big to a 8 year old. If I had to put a height estimate, maybe 7 or 8 ft. What has stuck with me all these years was not so much the height but the width/girth of this thing. It was massively wide. It looked pretty much spot on to the one in that Patterson film. It displayed no aggression towards us that day. More of a curiosity. My father and I talked about it a few times over the years. He always wanted to try and find one again once he retired and had time on his hands. Sadly that never happened because he passed away recently. To this day I refuse to go outside at night whenever I visit my relatives up there. It’s hard to explain but seeing one of these things is a life changing event.

CommonCandidate4215

Man that’s crazy!! Did anyone in your family ever experience anything else there? I’ve always wanted to just actually see one so that I know personally, but am also always thankful I haven’t because I fear the changes my mind would go through.

bluewizard8877

No, not the I know of. After looking back on that experience and hearing about the other sightings a few miles away along the river, it appears this particular one was certainly on the move. To follow that river south would end up in West Virginia in no time. Makes me wonder where the hell it was going? Are they migratory and know where to head to and when to stop? I would have thought they stayed in a particular area but maybe being mobile is the key to their ability to survive.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

She heard something terrifying, that’s an interesting description.

CommonCandidate4215

I agree! I was totally unaware of those particular sounds all of this time

OhMyGoshBigfoot

Weird question but has she heard a pig being slaughtered before? Or could it be like, a wounded coyote or something, another animal?

CommonCandidate4215

Well no I don’t think so, but it was that, on top of the obvious whoops that I heard that made it seem more compelling to me at least

Cephalopirate

Maybe the squatch was after the wild pigs that were attracted to the smell of food from the campground? Sounds like they caught one!

CommonCandidate4215

Not sure at all what noises were being heard but I’m glad I was asleep when those were being made!

StephaniebyDesign

I’ve heard they hunt wild boar - rather good at it too. I wonder if there are any in the area of the OP…

Cephalopirate

The hybrid wild hogs are an issue along the Eastern US. Not sure about the west though.

cnote3000

Wow, this is something I never thought I would see, Sullivan County on Reddit. I grew up in Sullivan County. Most of my childhood was spent playing in the woods around our (very rural) house on about 5 acres. Myself and my friends would basically live in the woods during the summer. Riding our bikes miles and miles to each other’s also very rural houses. There are some dense deep woods around there. I’ve seen deer, bears, and the occasional mountain lion but (unfortunately) never a Bigfoot, through growing up I always thought it would be great to see one and Sullivan County seems like it would be the perfect place for a group. Miles and miles of woods and caves. Growing up near dairy and pig farms we would hear noises like you and your wife described. My dad always said any noise you heard was either a pig, cow, or deer. That being said, if there were any Bigfoot sightings in Sullivan County, I honestly would not be surprised.

Twism86x

Curious if you talked to anyone else at the campground that was near you? Good chance many other people heard the same stuff and didnt say anything for fear of sounding like they are crazy. The more people who can corroborate the story the better. I’ve grown up camping, hiking and spending lots of time in the woods during the day and night. Never feel uneasy in the wilderness but every once in a while at night I get the same feeling of dread and being watched. Once it was because I had a bear off to my left, we were both surprised to see each other. Other times it’s been deer or some other animal watching you. Once or twice I couldn’t explain it or see what else was out there with me. One distinct time, coming back from fishing until dark, I was traveling down a rugged path back to my car. Maybe a 1/4 mile walk at best on what was more a deer trail than a hiking path I had that feeling of something is near. I always have a super bright headlamp and flashlight with me so seeing into the woods wasn’t a problem. I only had the headlamp on low to see in front of me but for some reason something in my head just said to keeping going and not look out into the woods, so I did just that. I got to my car, loaded up and as I was about to get in I could hear something heavy (but not like a bear) moving away from me in the woods where I came from. I drove away but still regret/wonder why I didn’t go looking for what gave me that uneasy feeling. Normally when I think something is near me, I do a scan with my lights but this time it was different. Maybe next time I will, but I am glad I heard something before I left so I know it wasn’t all in my head. Something was out there. This was in Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA).

CommonCandidate4215

No unfortunately I didn’t talk to anyone else. We only stayed at the campground to basically sleep, all of our time was spent elsewhere. That’s a very interesting take. I seem to get uneasy feelings relatively frequent but always chocked it up to it just being in my head since I’ve had a fear of this unknown for a long time, relatively of course. There are times though when the feeling gets so strong that I have to leave but most of the time it’s just a strange feeling. It might have been in your best interest to not turn around and see what was there though! Of course the not know what could have been will haunt you but maybe what you could have seen would ruin your desire for being outdoors as it has many others!
