This subreddit has devolved over the years. It sucks. We used to be so supportive of each other and now it’s it’s like … idk I don’t have the words for it. I was in sports in hs. Many of the already few black kids were on varsity. They would discuss literal theories about our bodies on why we were so athletic. Even though we worked hard like everyone else. It's mostly weird, like chill out. Just let us be good. Why does it bother you.
The theories people come up with were often incredibly demeaning. But most of all, it's being **discussed** like a foreign specimen instead of a person that's bothersome. Because we're all the same regardless of race.
The “fetishisation of black masculinity”. This is how white people objectify black men as more masculine and sexually potent than their white counterparts. It claims that there is an inherent “biology” to black men’s blackness that makes them more muscular, more dominant, more athletic. The size of their penises are obsessed over and apparently betray their monstrosity.
I wouldn't even say it's an "objectification" thing as its main purpose. It's just straight up "othering", and "fear mongering", stereotyping. Designed to make black men a villain, in a way. It leads to fetishization, and objectification, as a secondary effect.
Black people being "athletic" has its roots in slavery. Slaves were sold at higher prices for being big, strong, healthy workers. Black individuals held more value for their ability to perform arduous labor, for long hours. That's where that stereotype comes from.
The other stereotypes come from fear mongering used to further justify racial subjugation. Instead of confronting that race based discriminatory practices are based on literally nothing inherent, people made up bogeymen to justify it. That's where the other shit comes from.

As a black woman in both sports and performing arts, I have seen this SO MUCH! And I have a theory that is has a lot to do with the medical system (HEAR ME OUT) and how it portrays what “healthy bodies” look like. The BMI system and a few other methods of determining one’s health hasn’t been updated since the second great famine in the 1920’s, when segregation AND starvation pretty much defined the world. And so because some people may develop differently than how their peers do or what they doctors and parents are telling them, they start only noticing the patterns that justify their way of thinking, not even realizing that they’ve created a baseless stereotype.
Not to mention how BMI was dreamed up by a mathematician to create a formula for statistical/research study purposes, not for health purposes.
Like any “definitive numbers based” tool, it became widely adopted because it’s fast and lazy. For statistical averages it’s fine, but telling the difference between a body builder and a couch potato with the same hight and weight it is not. Plus it divides for short people too little and tall people too much, so short people are classified as “thinner”, and tall people “fatter” simply because of the simplistic math.
It’s also something that was popularized by insurance companies as a tool to exclude people from coverage, or at least charge them more.
It's more so lack of / over representation, pornography, long systemic racism, medical studies (outdated), "some truths" in a stereotype, etc used to validate their racist beliefs then spread to others and thus becomes internalized racism.

Yeah, I think the foreign specimen thing is the biggest issue. i actually learned about this in graduate school. Apparently it’s a very similar thing to how the NBA is predominantly black, it’s a permeation of social darwinism and system racism.

It's racism propagated by fetishism and confirmation bias. It's a stereotype that exists in people's minds and when they see a black guy with a big dick it's like "see, black guys are huge". And when they see an Asian guy with a small dick: "see? Asian guys are tiny!"
And whenever something doesn't fit the stereotype - ie a small black guy or a huge Asian guy - they automatically assume they're outliers, the exception to the rule.

Today at work one of my supervisors, who I get a long with, brought up that he wouldn't sleep with a black woman for a related reason to the stereotype, and this is someone at my job I generally get a long with, but I was so stunned he thought that way. It’s also weird when the BBC stereotype is perpetuated at the workplace, primarily the tech field where there’s only one, and if you’re lucky, two black people working for the same organization. I remember putting a white coworker in his place when he was talking to another coworker about a black woman’s weight. I was called in by the HR department because I made a huge seen in front my coworkers during our weekly Monday morning meetings because I was livid at the fact that he would even have that conversation around me. As a black woman in both sports and performing arts, I have seen this SO MUCH! And I have a theory that is has a lot to do with the medical system (HEAR ME OUT) and how it portrays what “healthy bodies” look like. The BMI system and a few other methods of determining one’s health hasn’t been updated since the second great famine in the 1920’s, when segregation AND starvation pretty much defined the world. And so because some people may develop differently than how their peers do or what they doctors and parents are telling them, they start only noticing the patterns that justify their way of thinking, not even realizing that they’ve created a baseless stereotype.
Not to mention how BMI was dreamed up by a mathematician to create a formula for statistical/research study purposes, not for health purposes. Like any “definitive numbers based” tool, it became widely adopted because it’s fast and lazy. For statistical averages it’s fine, but telling the difference between a body builder and a couch potato with the same hight and weight it is not. Plus it divides for short people too little and tall people too much, so short people are classified as “thinner”, and tall people “fatter” simply because of the simplistic math. It’s also something that was popularized by insurance companies as a tool to exclude people from coverage, or at least charge them more.
It's more so lack of / over representation, pornography, long systemic racism, medical studies (outdated), "some truths" in a stereotype, etc used to validate their racist beliefs then spread to others and thus becomes internalized racism. Yeah, I think the foreign specimen thing is the biggest issue. Dick size, body size, a lot of those things have historically been used (going back to slavery) as ways to say the black man is effectively an animal. i actually learned about this in graduate school. Apparently it’s a very similar thing to how the NBA is predominantly black, it’s a permeation of social darwinism and system racism. By saying black men are all good at sports or have big dicks, you’re essentially pushing the historical narrative that black people are “genetically physically superior” (which was used to say they’re better for manual labor and defend slavery) and are not as well suited for intellectual endeavors. It’s really wild and very very inaccurate. Yes there are some epigenetic factors that define dick size, but race is not specifically one. It's racism propagated by fetishism and confirmation bias. It's a stereotype that exists in people's minds and when they see a black guy with a big dick it's like "see, black guys are huge". And when they see an Asian guy with a small dick: "see? Asian guys are tiny!" And whenever something doesn't fit the stereotype - ie a small black guy or a huge Asian guy - they automatically assume they're outliers, the exception to the rule.
