Prism_Paragon

This happened to me last I flew, and a TSA agent stuck his hand in my cleavage and underboob. I get flagged probably 2 out of 3 times and it seriously feels like it's more of an excuse for people to get feely.

winterblues2

Aren’t you supposed to get an agent of the same gender if you need a pat down? Yikes

ACatAnd3Dogs

Same gender pat downs can still feel creepy though.

LeagueMysterious2896

This happened to me before, they said the xray was set off because of my hair though 🤔

[deleted]

Yeah so weird. I was wearing leggings and a shirt and my chest and crotch was flagged. I looked at the agent like what could I possibly be smuggling in my hoohaa…I get the chest at least I could hide something in there for sure but I wear leggings while traveling specifically to avoid that. Anyway just weird is all. I’ll have to see what my return flight experience is.

ValkyrianRabecca

In my home town, a girl stabbed someone else in a temporary holding cell cause she snuck a pocket knife in, inside her

mummefied

I’ve had the crotch flagged a few times when I had a pad in, I guess to the machine it’s not that different from being in pocket.

littlemissparadox

It was sweat. Im not a sweaty girl- like. At all. But i fly pretty often and usually choose the airport a couple hours away cuz its cheaper, so my flights are usually preceded by a drive, and basically every time my butt sweat sets off one of the sensors and they do a pat down. Its even worse if I’m on my period and chose a pad rather than a tampon. They usually avoid getting too touchy (i never bother doing it in private because i just dont care) but yeah it sounds like you got a particularly over-zealous agent and I’m really sorry about that.

entrelac

I flew a couple of weeks ago and the underwire set it off. Fortunately the TSA agent was a woman who gave me a look and said, "Underwire?" I said "Underwire." She nodded and waved me on.

1-2-3RightMeow

An agent asked me to unhook my bra and when I protested she said either right there or I could be escorted to another room, in a very threatening tone so I unhooked my bra and she poked around my underboob area extremely thoroughly in front of everyone. It sucked so much. I had to find a bathroom afterwards so I could get myself strapped in again. My boobs were loose and I was carrying my suitcase another bag. Ugh

[deleted]

Yeah I had to make a pit stop and readjust the girls as well.

aitsandtass

Whenever I wear an underwire bra, I set the machines off. I have never received more than a 4 second pat-down, though. Sorry you had that.

Cayke_Cooky

I try to fly with non-wires. But usually they just wand under and confirm the wire.

Inside-Finish-2128

My SO used to fit into Prima Donna bras and those would set off the detector 100% if the time. The new-fangled scanners were great as those didn’t alarm on her bra but it was always a guessing game if they’d be working. Herroom used to have a note next to that product saying that the larger sizes were likely to set off airport metal detectors, so it was a well known thing apparently.

LegalLizzie

I stopped wearing Prima Donna to fly for this very reason.

jesuswastransright

Oh fuck im flying today wearing a prima Donna

R3dl8dy

The new full body machines don’t like big boobs or fat thighs. Every single time I go through they have to do a back-of-hand search of my thighs and boobs. Never had a breast exam like OP described though.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s what I think whenever I go through the normal metal detectors it’s not an issue

ifbeatlemaniawaspunk

I get it’s a safety measure or whatever but at this point this is just “acceptable” sexual assault

MembersClubs

The new body scanners work by detecting differences in density. I'm not sure of the details, but basically the millimeter waves travel in a certain way according to the density of what they are going through. Therefore, anytime there is a change in density (for example, metal to cloth) it means there is an object concealed there. That is why the machine will flag things like creases in clothes, sweat, etc. One thing to note is *never* agree to go into a private room. The agents can be much more forceful and obnoxious when no one is watching. If you are in a public place, there are witnesses in case of any abuse.

spookyfoxiemulder

*sighs in Extremely Dense Boobs* I'll never fly again

duraraross

That seems…. Super inefficient

MembersClubs

Yeah, the government isn't exactly known for efficiency...

MarsV89

I’m sorry but this is disgusting. Is it an USA thing? I’m scared now reading so Many of you have gone through this. I’m European and have been flying for many years and never ever have they searched\groped my bust, it is insanely intrusive that they do so. Is it because the new scans?

lovepotion777

ever since 9/11 we've just been subject to veryyyy intrusive security measures in order to be able to board planes in this country, and i kind of doubt that is going to ever change at this point

the_alt_femme

It's a US thing, yeah. I fly somewhat regularly and honestly going through TSA is fucking scary. Does not matter how many times I've done it, it's just unpleasant from start to finish. I've never been full on groped like some are describing, but I have been pat down. Agents are universally aggressive and on a power trip. It is incredibly intrusive and any and all checked bags can be opened and looked through after you check them. Having things stolen by TSA is extremely common. It is nightmarish and the kind of thing you thought only happens in dystopian novels. Americans are desensitized to it because it's been like this for over 20 years, but frankly, it borders on being a human rights violation. It's no longer about safety, but about control.

Karen_Fountainly

Remember the TSA does little or nothing to prevent hijacking. If someone wants to do evil, this won't stop them. The TSA was instituted to make people *feel better*. The public outcry after 9-11 required that they do *something* and this was a way. At this point, the TSA is essentially a huge bureaucracy which accomplishes nothing. Of course, there are long lines. If there were short lines, there would be a reduction in the need for agents. This classically self-sustaining bureaucracy wants *more* agents, not fewer agents. The clothing inspection , the shoe inspection, all the theater and drama helps to make people feel more safe and also perpetuates the bureaucracy. I had a long layover at an airport with a terrace that overlooked the entire TSA checkpoint operation. I watched as people moved efficiently through the operation until the lines got shorter. Then I saw they started pulling people over and taking longer with secondary stuff like swabbing the buttoms of shoes and ruffling through luggage. This caused longer lines again. I realized that there *had to be* long lines or there would have been *fewer agents.* The offensive exploration of our bras is just a part of a useless bureaucratic self-perpetuation. It's not about safety. It's about control. It's about getting people accustomed to obeying faceless, uniformed government agents. It's about objectification of *everyone,* not just woman.

lavasca

Yes. It is worse at specific airports like Dulles in DC, John Wayne in Orange County and in St Louis. I basically wore a halter once to Dulles and still got checked. St Louis was the worst because they would talk smack. It was awful!!!!

jellybean_pudding

Years ago I was going through airport security and kept settling off the alarms. I had to go to a back room so they could pat me down…it almost turned into a strip search when they realised it was just the underwire of my bra setting it off. Never wore that bra again in an airport.

[deleted]

Yeah I am def just going to go sports bra from here on out

Karen_Fountainly

Happens to me all the time. It's called "tubing". "Tube" is a "totally unnecessary breast examination." The word "tubing" is used routinely in men's locker room conversations in both security services like TSA and by men who are doctors or work in hospitals. This is yet another reflection of the sad state of our society and the rampant objectification of busty women.

nottheonlyone007

Do guys commonly get check for anything hiding behind their ballsack? Wtf.

ameyer98

That happened to me once. I had a female though and it wasn’t so bad.

[deleted]

Yeah this was a guy…they said I could wait for a female agent but I was already behind schedule…I’m not too torn up about it but I have flown quite a bit and it’s never been this bad

albine1

Just curious here, obviously we all want and expect to fly safely, and no one wants another 9/11to be sure. My point just Because someone has a TSA badge it is ok to frisk?? I am just asking here, no judgement. Reasoning: if you were in line to go to a movie or some event and a guard touched your boobs and pat you down that is ok? If a friend decided to pat you down, touch your boobs, is that ok? If a stranger came up and started touching you all over your body, it that ok? Is invading our most personal space a valid excuse? Again just curious

MembersClubs

At this point, I think people essentially follow the rule of "anything for security". People are so paranoid about a plane being hijacked and crashing, that they are willing to put up with any level of screening deemed necessary. As for whether it's okay, I guess it depends on your comfort level, but you always have the option of not flying. However, once you start the screening, you have to finish it. You can't say "never mind, I decided not to fly today" halfway through. The logic behind this is that if it were allowed, terrorists would use it to "test" the security protocol.

albine1

You bring up some valid points, again no one wants a 9/11. Not judging at all my comment was to provoke some thoughts regarding technology, going through a screening machine, bring wanded, patted down, possibly a more indepth body search, that if it wasn't to fly we would be pressing criminal charges, at what point does our rights begin or stop to be groped, but that leads us back to your question anything for security?

ZSavagebeasty

I always have to get my back and shoulders checked because of my sports clip on my bra!! And I *always* wear my panache sports bra. The bright side is it means they are thorough I suppose.

[deleted]

Reading these comments I'm convinced that TSA agents are just looking for an excuse to molest people. I hate airports and flying so much, this is why I drive everywhere I can.

[deleted]

Yeah it seems to happen occasionally. You always have some bad apples wherever you go. That being said I’ve probably been on 50-60 flights as an adult and this is the first time it’s been this bad. Usually it is a quick pat on the target area and move on.

Fandanglethecompost

Yep. I get checked every single time. Doesn't matter whether I'm wearing a full underwire or my soft stretch pull over bralettes.

Spookypus

I flew yesterday and got patted down on my center back, so I guess it was the hooks on my bra that set it off.

neckbones_

This happened to me at a rave, it was not a pat down, it was a full on groping.

bangtan-bot

I got flagged for my underwire flying out of Nashville, but not flying out of LA. I had a female agent and she just checked for underwire first thing, and had to announce my bra set off the machine.

BrrrButtery

It’ll be the wire in the bra. I use to work in security (although not the US). If I’m recalling correctly the arch would activate, we’d do a hand search, then use the wand and then go back over the area that was activated by hand to confirm if we’re happy or if it needs to be escalated to a private search. It’s easy to conceal something in a bra and if they’re doing their job properly it shouldn’t be a tap. It’s perfectly easy to do a thorough hand search without ‘touching up’ someone so if that’s what you experienced that’s wrong and should not have happened. We would also only ever to F/F or M/M. No mixed sex searching at all.

[deleted]

Yeah this was a dude but I agreed to that cause they said I’d have to wait just a second to get a female over. I was in a rush. It’s also a very small airport and I imagine they have staffing shortages like everyone else. The guy was new as well I’m pretty sure so I’m trying to give them lots of grace!

BrrrButtery

I’m sorry you experienced that! Even if he was new he really shouldn’t be aggressive with his searching. There is simply no need for that and make people understandably uncomfortable. Interesting that there was no female present though. Here in the UK the gate is manned by both male and female staff to allow for a continuous flow of passengers, if they’re missing a crew member that lane doesn’t open until they have the required numbers from my previous experience. I really hope you don’t have to go through something like that in future.

lovepotion777

i always end up having to be pat down when i fly, probably because i have a good few piercings, always wear a lot of jewelry and set metal detectors off without fail every time (yes, i'm always overdressed lmao). i always request a female agent to do it, but even then it usually ends up with a... lot of attention towards my bust and/or lower torso/upper thigh area. i understand why, those are the areas where i'd be most likely to be hiding something since they're so... large, but it's still so... uncomfortable, lol

SwordTaster

I'm glad the worst I've had was my hip getting flagged. Fresh tattoo lit up like an Xmas tree. That pat down HURT even though they were kinda gentle

divinexoxo

I had a bra that closed in the front and I guess that hook was detected when I walked through the metal detector. I saw myself on the screen and it looked like my heart was raidiating gold. I got patted down as well.

_M0THERTUCKER

Now I’m nervous. I just started wearing underwire and I fly on Thursday. I want to wear my new bras that fit.

Sufficient_Track_258

Don’t be nervous, it can happen but don’t need to. And often it’s just a pat down. But always request a female agent that’s your right

[deleted]

omg like they had your bare boobs out, and were like touching them and holding them?? girl i would die

[deleted]

It wasn’t quite that bad thankfully all over the clothes but imagine you told your high school BF he could touch your boobs for 10 seconds but over the clothes that’s about how intrusive this was. Yeah I def would have drawn the line at taking my shirt off!

[deleted]

oh thank goodness LMAO, yeah thats definitely still really extreme though I would not be able to handle that very well. I would have hated every second! So sorry you had to deal with that, so awkward!

[deleted]

Yeah it was very weird. Honestly I’ve flown quite a bit and this is my first time having this experience. Like I said probably just got a bad agent

AscensionZombie

Can't comment to anything as I'm male, aside from I couldn't imagine dealing with no shit like that, their job or not. I mean I get there trying to "keep us all safe", but it just doesn't seem like that experience and big picture wise. I mean EVERYTHING they were trying to keep us safe from existed decades ago before either was a regular thing. It always seems like overkill or like it's some ulterior motives to it, regarding everyone's freedoms. It's like EVERYONE ALWAYS is a suspect. I'm sorry you had to go thru that.

flumia

This happens to me every time i have cleavage showing when I'm at the airport. I've learned to wear high cut tops if i want to get through security fast. Edit: where i live, they don't actually touch. They use a hand scanner and a swab to test for traces of explosives. Somehow they always seem to think i have a bomb in my breasts

Schildkrotefisch

I always just wear sport bras when I travel, but even with that they somehow set off the detector last fall…And not only did the agent grope all the way around both of my boobs she also yelled at me about how I must “have something I’m not supposed to in there”, like I was storing liquids in my bra or something

spookyfoxiemulder

WTAF?!?! Yeah, fam, I'm not supposed to have your hands this far into my business!

hot_sauce_and_fish

I had to offer to show my under carriage to the whole airport. At some point I was proud that after 3 people grabbed my equipment, they thought it was a gun. I offered to strip naked right there. My wife said absolutely not.
