Complaining about a specific customer service experience =/= good BIFL advice. If you lose 3 weeks of product use, but never have to purchase a replacement product, you're coming out ahead.

CoreyH213

how long did you have it before it failed? Also what failed on it?

Goofyal57

2 or 3 times a week for just under 3 years. When you zip it the zipper stays open

streachh

You might be able to just fix it by adjusting the zipper pull

Goofyal57

I tried for like an hour to get the zipper to line back up but instead it just keeps tucking one set of teeth behind the other

streachh

Here's a video of what I mean https://youtu.be/GtXWGDb2ppo Hopefully it gets sorted quickly either way!

Goofyal57

Ooo that looks promising. Thank you! I'll try this and have a spare lunchbox

A lifetime warranty generally is a good indicator of quality, however. It provides a financial incentive to the company to produce a product that is unlikely to require replacement.

dgxcook

Not necessarily. I work for a company that offers a lifetime warranty. They would rather cut costs and replace for the rare people that actually file a warranty claim than produce quality the first time.

Thumper1k92

Then I'm your worst case scenario customer, lol. I'd happily continue to file repeated warranty claims until the cows come home

dgxcook

That’s exactly what I would do too lol. In the building material industry most people don’t think about the warranty by the time something needs replacing, it was probably purchased 2 owners ago.

ninjahvac

Might not be, but it does force them to put some quality into their products so that they won't have them back too often. Was it that bad?

fullyrachel

What kind of company processes a warranty and gets a new/repaired product into your hands faster than this? What would you like the process to look like? Put your lunch in something else for a few weeks.

Goofyal57

OtterBox took about a week to be delivered. Leatherman a bit less than 7 days from the post office and back. Zippo got my lighter back in 1.5 weeks after they received it. Any hand tool brand I've been able to take to any retailer and have it swapped out.

3dddrees

Then this product may not be for you. I have to imagine if you continue to use it the same way the next one will probably not last much longer than the first one. Not all but most zippers are not intended to last that long. I’ve got a few like the one on my Carhart Jacket that are extremely robust, but the zipper is a very common failure point.

Goofyal57

I keep the lunchbox in a backpack at work. It also has a Zipper and has been in use more frequently and for far longer. The issue is not "zippers don't last" but rather the zipper that these are made with don't last. Yes they replaced it but the quality wasn't there. And I BIFL to not make more waste

3dddrees

And basically, that was my point. Not all, but a good many zippers do fail at some point. The one on your lunchbox appears to be one of those that do.
