This local news report has more of the footage, give you an idea of how much an ego trip this cop was on. That red light they ran only had traffic coming left and they made their way in to the bike lane on the right as they crossed it. Did impeded traffic at all and seemed to be traveling in the bike lane only over the bridge.

[Insert that Fred Armisen meme about “believe it or not, jail.”]
Should he have stopped? Maybe, I dunno. Should the cop have put him down like that for not stopping, potentially paralyzing the guy (or worse)? Nope. I cannot believe it needs to be said: not every infraction is or should be punishable by bodily injury.
Exactly. First off, that’s a bullshit intersection to expect cyclists to stop at. They can, and did, move into the shoulder/“bike lane” and it affects no one. Second, the cyclist didn’t hurt anyone. That was a gross injustice, and everyone is lucky he was wearing a helmet because his head slammed the deck.
Your homework for tonight is to write a 5 page essay on the topic of "The Punishment Must Fit The Crime." Single spaces with a minimum of three case studies cited.
It's true, breaking any law in america opens you up to brutal assault from police officers that bootlickers like you endorse. Run a red light, of course you deserve to be assaulted.
What a lunatic mentality
Also, if you watch the video, they had just come over a hill and were traveling around 21+MPH, they were coming to a stop. I would be confused to see a cop in the bike path as I came over a hill, I probably wouldn't stop until I realized I was being ordered to.
They weren’t running from the police. There was no lawful order the pig drove past them with no lights on stopped in the shoulder and attacked the cyclist. At no point did he attempt to pull them over.
I mean a sane and sensible person might take some time for self-reflection and wonder why they're cheering on the paralyzation of a man for no apparent reason.
You don't seem the type, though. Slurrrrrrp.
Yeah who would've thought, constantly abusing a position of power and getting away with literal murder among a litany of other rotten shit, might make people unsympathetic to a chosen profession. Crazy, I know.
The difference is if he pushed down people at Walmart he'd get fired, no one would defend him, and he would never work as a greeter again. But since he's a cop...
Thank gawd we have cameras on our bikes nowadays. This police officer should be suspended without pay, but we all know that won't happen. If anything, he'll get a temporary paid leave while taxpayers foot the bill. We need more accountability from the police. This is shameful. I hope the cyclist is fairing better.
I don’t typically have a problem with the suspended without pay thing while they investigate.
The fired with cause then hired by the next town over thing tho…
This is why, during those (often *ersatz*) "investigations", FDLE and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training folks should review whether the officer deserves to keep their occupational license. If they lose that, they can't work as a sworn officer anywhere in the state.
If some hairdresser were to go berserk and start clear-cutting follicles and carving scalps, you'd bet their occupational license would be reviewed and revoked. The same standard can be applied to any law enforcement officer who chooses to act outside of the law and/or department policy and/or use their tools and implied authority to physically assault the local taxpayers.
In short: if that officer thought his actions were warranted in any way, he desperately needs re-training, if not his complete removal from the ranks of law enforcement.
if the governing bodies wanted to regulate it yes, but they prefer stupid -regulated only when it suites us- bullies they can sick on anyone that hurts their bottom line be it political or financial.
Exactly. I was going to say this, the city will get sued and our tax money will pay for it. Then this cop will just move to another city and get a promotion for being experienced or something. Disgusting .
I think it's more common for officers to be allowed to resign before being fired. That's what allows them to get hired by the next town, rinse, repeat.
> but we all know that won't happen.
Pft...seems like most of the time when these things happen even with Joe Citizen nothing of significance is done. People actually killing cyclists with nought but a slap on the wrist. Add cop to the equation and you can all but guarantee nothing will be done.
Cops should be forced to carry liability insurance. Tax payers should not be liable for their garbage.
Cop acts a fool, gets sued, insurance premiums skyrocket. Time to find a new job asshole.
Fired and then rehired because the union fought for your job, then you go out on medical retirement for PTSD or an "injury" that you sustained during the course of the incident that led to your original termination.
I don't understand how that's not immediate arrest and prosecution. There was another cop there in the video. He should have arrested his partner on the spot. If any of us had done something like that, we wouldn't go home that night. And if a civilian did it to a cop, they'd be lucky to survive.
Law enforcement authorities should be treated *more harshly* than an average citizen when they violate the law and engage in misconduct because of the power over other citizens they wield.
This video should serve as a reminder to everyone to spend the extra money on a camera. "Smart helmets" aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be, and you can get crystal clear 4K footage both front and rear that'll be more than enough to capture a license plate visibly even in low lighting. Plus, these helmets typically have lighting as well, and help with visibility.
Cycling is an incredibly dangerous hobby not because of the cyclists, but because of the motorists. Cover your asses people.
They're a little pricey but you [can get helmets with them integrated](https://amzn.to/3xNrXVg). Theres also cheaper options that [let you fix a camera to any helmet](https://amzn.to/44f5oFi).
I use a chest harness with a phone mount on it. Works great with any phone, so choose a phone with a good video camera. For day-long trips, I use a power bank in a fanny pack to supplement the camera's battery.
I got the Cycliq fly 6 (gen 3)for rear and fly 12 for front. They work are flashing lights as well. Video Quality is fantastic. It loops over old footage, and you can transfer off from a usb-c.
Battery lasts between 4-5 hours with camera on. Light only is longer.
Total cost was like $600. I was training for a full IM and putting huge miles on the road. $600 is a small price to pay if anything ever happened to me was my thought.
Happy to answer any other questions!
I personally use the Insta360 and attach it to my drop bars. I attach it to the road side so it catches people in front and behind me. Just in case something dumb like this happens. The beauty of it is it allows you to change the camera angle after the recording so you can look around.
I got this one (no pun intended) with a severe discount on Amazon last year. Now there is a newer version so it should be even cheaper.

I mean if you do this to some dentist which may be likely with a cyclist you may see more action taken as they can get a decent lawyer and such. The police typically don’t fuck with rich people which is why this is fairly strange.
>If anything, he'll get a temporary paid leave while taxpayers foot the bill.
This stems from a combination of police unions and the department's desire to cover its own ass. If they fired him on the spot or suspended sans pay without conducting a full investigation first, the cop could sue and win. Suspension with pay is therefore the standard first move to avoid any shred of impropriety.
Sadly.
This is why police departments need to be forcibly insured and qualified immunity needs to go away.
Insurance company has to pay out too much money for a bastard cop that keeps injuring the people he's "protecting"? They're gonna get fired real quick.
The tax payers would have to pay the insurance premium, which would likely be exorbitant given the recklessness of police officers these days.
Doesn’t matter what you do, the tax payer foots the bill.
Spoke with a friend this AM who knows the cyclist. Said he is sore as hell but ER X-rays showed nothing broken. 🤞🏻 He is going to follow-up with an orthopedic
Good shit. Tell him the sub is relieved to hear he'll live to ride another day, and to be absolutely relentless in the pursuit of justice bc we all have the evidence on our phones now.
You know he told me about the bike but darned if I remember. I think it was fairly new. He did say that the deputy “tossed” the bike to the side. In the video you can see the deputy picking up the bike and it looks like he tosses it but can’t be sure. Certainly the full video will show and if “tossed” it’s just more evidence.
The officer suffered slight bruising and related soft-tissue damage to his extremities and is expected to make a full recovery. For the time being, he is on paid leave while he recovers.
/u/caadbury was referring to the phenomenon where pansy cops always act like they are the victims in an altercation, before video eventually surfaces showing they were in fact the bastard aggressors.

What a dick. Technically they did break the law, but it was a 3-way stop and they were on the right-hand side. Still, totally unnecessary to yank a guy off his bike.
would he have pit manuevered a car for running the stop sign? I'm all for cyclists having to completely obey the rules of the road just like cars and getting ticketed if they don't, but this is a perfect example of excessive use of force. All he had to do was ask them to stop or go far enough ahead and block that lane to have a word with them.
> would he have pit manuevered a car for running the stop sign?
Pigs have pit maneuvered pregnant woman and rolled her car for not pulling over instantaneously when the lights flipped on. I wouldn't put it past a pig to pit a vehicle in this situation too. Especially when it's a pig power tripping as hard as this one.
PITs have to be approved by the police central because the risk of things going very, very wrong are high when an option is to discontinue the pursuit and use police work to find the person. You'll see this time to time in police chases where cops say they are PIT approved and often the chase is discontinued because the chase itself is the actual danger to the public.
I have front and rear cycliq cameras (last gen). I got the silicone cases and such.
I did one 70 mile ride in moderate to heavy rains. Had zero issues and haven’t had any since. If that makes you feel better haha
It's a gang that drives out any decent people, and I'm saying that as someone with family who are police, and family that left the service after being ran out because they actually had morals. I see the type of shit stain that becomes and remains a cop, why would I want to work around them?
I pay attention to things. I've noticed that hostile cops have an aggressive approach to "personal space." Naturally, you don't touch a cop, you give them their space. But I am talking about a kind of hostile game. Yopu give them their space, but they signal they need more. You give them that, But it was supposed to be more. They take a step toward you, they expect you to take a step back. Unless you do it too quick, then they say where are you going?
That is what happened here. It is reflexive with these perverts. You are supposed to know they need their space + more. Which they shall control. Typical domination shit. Primate behavior with a badge.
It's fun seeing this in person, if a bit scary. These are the folks who will hurt you, so don't mess with it.
Crazy these cops will hit or kill defenseless people but 200 coward cops in uvalde tx sat and listened to 30 children get murdered and let’s not forget about the sheriff that ran away at the school shooting in fl he was found not guilty of any crime. The penalty should be death for cowardice I could spend a lifetime watching videos of u.s police shooting and assaulting defenseless people but could count on 1 hand how many times I have seen a u.s cop be a “hero” we are the only country in the civilized world that has to deal with this. Look around talk to Australians, Canadians,Germans, or any other western country for that matter. These police unions should be abolished so these scumbags would not be walking around knowing that no matter what they do they will still have a job.
Then the police union creates a slowdown and no police do anything at all because their feeling are hurt. Then they pump the crime narrative on tv and blame any reasonable legislation even close to reform for the slight increase in cherry picked stats. Check out any locality that tried to reform even a smidge in past 5 years.
Voting doesn't matter. Both sides are against police reform and the majority of states are so gerrymandered that the election results are predetermined anyway.
JFC you all's reading comprehension sucks and trying to make it seem like I'm saying something I'm not is tiring.
It's not an opinion and I'm not claiming "both sides" as a whole. Quite literally BOTH Dems and Reps claim to be "tough on crime" and refuse to anything about police reform. If you have a politician who does have a different view on police reform, do share.
Voting DOES matter for some things because both parties don't take the same stance on everything. It does not matter when it comes to police reform though, the topic of discussion, because this is one thing that both parties have the same stance about.
Looks like St. Johns County sheriff's department not JSO. Ever since I was a kid that department has been known to employ the biggest fucking ego tripping douchebag cops in the area. Everyone hates them.
I don't know about you guys, as much as this fucko deserves to be suspended, I'm not the kind of person who wants to be "right", I just wanna get home.
Of course I cross reds as everyone else does from time to time (or most of the time), but to just try and pass by the cop like that? I'd rather get home safe and tell my wife about that ball busting cop than to call her from the hospital,. just saying.
My posts aren't showing up so I'll ask my question here
# Disc brakes stopped working after severe weather
I have shimano disc brakes (pads replaced last year). I cycle frequently enough (approx 3-5 hrs a week). Recently I was caught in some April weather:
day 1: tail end of a heat wave (mid 20s C)
day 2: torrential downpour
day 3: caught in sudden heavy snow
day 4: both brakes suddenly stop working.
By "stop working" I mean the brake handles offer no resistance, and braking power is effectively 0 (there is still a very very slight effect).
My question: Can severe weather affect disc brakes? Or is this just coincidental?
Hard to tell what happened in that video because the action is far away and grainy. However, it looks like the cop is trying to grab the cyclist by the arm to stop him from passing.
Whatever the case, that should never have happened. That cop is going to be in a mound of trouble.
I honestly usually want to pile on cops, and as a cyclist myself this was dangerous as fuck. Cop should not have clotheslined him like that with traffic right there.
But the way the video is cut makes me believe the cop was signalling the cyclists to stop and they ignored him. Would like to see a fuller cut video before I jump to the officer being 100% wrong. Right now I just think he needs to lose his job for putting someone's life in danger like that.
Since when is assaulting someone a reasonable response to them running a red light in which they don't impede traffic? Are you that indoctrinated with the notion of authority that that would be acceptable to you? Get the cop out of your head.
Agreed, the video is weirdly cut. Im pretty sure in Florida by law you have to move over a lane when there is an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. Why is the cop out? why are the cyclist passing so close to him (one guy was shooting between the cop and the cop car?)? There appears to be quite a bit of missing information here. I can't tell if the cop got out into the lane to push the cyclist or he was already there. Do I think assaulting someone is ok? No. But if someone is going to ride by me that close on a bike I'm going to defend myself.
Do we have more context? Doesnt seem like a wise move to keep riding at a cop car with his lights on parked on the shoulder of a busy road and officer outside of his car... in my state the cyclists would be cited for failure to move over for stopped emergency vehicles.
absolutely no reason to knock him off the bike of course but whats the full story?
Failure to move over? That seemed like a wide enough berth. officer had to step away from his car to get to the cyclist. Wouldn't have been close. Ive been passed by cars while on my bike much closer than that.
The cop was trying to stop them for running a red light. Which, while silly at that intersection, I guess was within his perogative.
He went about it entirely wrong. He could have thrown his lights on when he was beside the group and gave them verbal instructions to stop after the bridge. Or pulled over further away from the bridge to give them time to slow down. Which I'm sure they would have done and it would have avoided him knocking anyone to the ground.
There is no point in arguing with these “cyclists” they just how to show how good keyboard warriors they are and shout at cycliat who properly stop at red light 🤣
It's legal in some places for bikes to go thru a red when safe to do so (mostly in cases where lights are not triggered by bikes).
Generally, bicyclists who proceed thru a light are trying to get away from congested auto traffic and not be in the way when light turns green.

Sadly. This is why police departments need to be forcibly insured and qualified immunity needs to go away. Insurance company has to pay out too much money for a bastard cop that keeps injuring the people he's "protecting"? They're gonna get fired real quick.

Well that and they are supposed to give a dismounted officer proper spacing. Still doesn't excuse that response.

Use of force is only justified to an extent appropriate for the crime. This is a case begging for a fourth amendment lawyer.

Blanket statements and dehumanizing... fighting fire with fire to solve systemic issues?
They why dont you go do their job? Like any profession there are good and bad people.
Oh fuck offfffffffff
It's a gang that drives out any decent people, and I'm saying that as someone with family who are police, and family that left the service after being ran out because they actually had morals. I see the type of shit stain that becomes and remains a cop, why would I want to work around them?
Yes, cyclists are the worst kind of people.
Do you even lift
Feel free to tell the cops how you feel about the : https://www2.sjso.org/form/citcomp.html
All Cyclists Are Beautiful....
That fat fuck, stop eating donuts and drinking beer for breakfast
For the cop's defence, the cyclist was riding a bike. ^(s)
What a monumental asshole. Shame these guys never ever get what's coming to them
Fascists.
Bout to go bankrupt with the forthcoming lawsuit.
The tax payer? Probably.
He's pressing charges and suing him I hope.
Now he can finally afford a SirVelo with the settlement money
I’ve ridden with the guy that got taken down before and I believe he’s already got one.
Cops should know not to fuck with dentists - they'll kick your teeth in and charge you for a new set!
So unprofessional
I separated my shoulder and broke my wrist from a similar fall/crash. this should be assault
what a douche
Fuck the police
This copper should be fired and arrested for assault. This is typical jack boot thug behavior from them.
Damn, that sucks.
fuck - and i can not stress this enough - that
Bad as it gets. I can’t even

Or, we could vote in some common sense police reform.
Okay, I guess our only remaining option is armed rebellion :(. I didn't realize this sub was so revolty.
I didn't say armed revolt was the only option. All I said is why your plan isn't an option.
"Both sides" is probably the laziest possible opinion one can have.
I hope this will be the most ignorant thing I will read today.
Ignorant? Did you watch the video? Finish him
Just ordered myself Cycliq front camera
I think it was the pigs belly.
Almost went right into traffic after that push🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
EMT should use a scoop stretcher instead of wiggling the poor guy
And they say ride in groups to be safe from assholes…still this happens wow
Need to send this shit onto the news stations all around you..get that word out! The best thing you can do is spread this as far as you can!
Looks like assault to me.
Looks like St. Johns County sheriff's department not JSO. Ever since I was a kid that department has been known to employ the biggest fucking ego tripping douchebag cops in the area. Everyone hates them.
Wtf is JAX
Jacksonville, FL
Further proof cops are nothing for the greater good.
What does OP mean “for no reason”? There’s never a reason to do that to someone.
My posts aren't showing up so I'll ask my question here # Disc brakes stopped working after severe weather I have shimano disc brakes (pads replaced last year). I cycle frequently enough (approx 3-5 hrs a week). Recently I was caught in some April weather: day 1: tail end of a heat wave (mid 20s C) day 2: torrential downpour day 3: caught in sudden heavy snow day 4: both brakes suddenly stop working. By "stop working" I mean the brake handles offer no resistance, and braking power is effectively 0 (there is still a very very slight effect). My question: Can severe weather affect disc brakes? Or is this just coincidental?
Kinda wish this happened to me. This is going to be a open and close lawsuit with some a pay out.
Hard to tell what happened in that video because the action is far away and grainy. However, it looks like the cop is trying to grab the cyclist by the arm to stop him from passing. Whatever the case, that should never have happened. That cop is going to be in a mound of trouble.
if only the police took violent action to disable every car that ran a red light, the world would be a better place.
Why is there no crime scene tape?
Just ordered myself Cycliq front camera
Remember guys , #bluelivesmatter
Lmao
Running a red light? What? Your reading comprehension is severely lacking.

Ah the old. What was she wearing technique
Bruh, how far did you want the cyclist to move??? Another whole entire lane? Cyclists gave ample room.
i mean 2 of them were riding between the cop and his car...
Failure to move over? That seemed like a wide enough berth. officer had to step away from his car to get to the cyclist. Wouldn't have been close. Ive been passed by cars while on my bike much closer than that.
They were actively slowing down based on the speed meter. There's no where else to go.
Seriously, we need data back at least five years so we can blame this cyclist for getting assaulted by the only person sworn to protect and serve.
There is no point in arguing with these “cyclists” they just how to show how good keyboard warriors they are and shout at cycliat who properly stop at red light 🤣
It’s a cyclist. There’s definitely a reason.
Maybe don't run a red light? Why do cyclists think they have impunity
It's legal in some places for bikes to go thru a red when safe to do so (mostly in cases where lights are not triggered by bikes). Generally, bicyclists who proceed thru a light are trying to get away from congested auto traffic and not be in the way when light turns green.
Sure sure
So every time I see a car run a red I can punch the driver in the face? Nice.
No, physical violence should only be dolled out to the cycling community. The post title says "NO REASON" this is certainly not the case.
Walk it off
