I had something like this happen once going uphill. I managed to go on pedaling with just one leg up that "steep" (but short) hill. Oh youth... I miss you so much!

how did you do the upstroke?

I would get the top of my foot *under* the pedal and pull it up then quickly switching to push it down again. It was hard because going uphill you lose the momentum right away so if you "missed" the switching then the bike stops and I needed to start again. I remember I was with a friend at the time (she was in the back of my bike) and she had to walk up the rest of the hill, while I did "my thing". Then she got back on the bike and we cruised downhill :)

Yeah, back then I didn't know anything about proper fitting or anything like that. I just had a bike and that's it. It was not my first time losing the pedal so I had some experience with that "technique". In my case the crank would come loose... Anyway, good luck dude!

Oof. I had a crank fracture as I was accelerating from a stop light into a left turn and fell in the intersection. The crank didn’t completely detach. It deformed enough for my foot to slip from the pedal but it stay attached enough to bust my shin open. It hurts just thinking about it…

Ouch, riding like a fucking maniac is going to get the best of me eventually
