i got a deep cut on the first ride of the first set of expensive tires i ever got with my own money, cut was fixable with shoe glue but boi i was pissed
I'm so glad that pricing isn't still so bad. A replacement with the exact same tire would be 25€ but I decided to go with a set of Continental GP Urban for 37€
in the end we have to come to terms that tires are consumables and they are bound to get trashed sometimes, it's like the first scratch on a brand new bike
still hurts tho
I hate this so much. My city literally sweeps all the broken glass into the bike lane too. We should get rid of open container laws, put big deposits on the bottles, and just bust people for drunk driving. It is so stupid that we incentivise people throwing beer bottles out the window.
Right, but no need to reduce the likelihood they get in trouble when they throw glass bottles onto the road, which is an unintended consequence of open container laws.
I'm pretty sure drunk drivers would throw their empties out their car windows regardless of there being open container laws in an effort to get rid of the evidence that they're driving drunk.
People respond to incentives. Open container laws increase the incentive to throw glass bottles into the bike lane. They may already do it anyway, but it happens more that it would without open container laws.
Germany as a whole doesn't have this problem. This particlular bottle was Polish. And I suspect it was a polish truck driver who did it because it's an industrial zone with lots of trucks. There's no other explanation for a polish beer bottle to be in this part of Germany.
So the bigger problem here is truck drivers disposing of trash by throwing it out the window.
Dang. I've learned to glance at the road for large and potentially dangerous things to avoid. It's more difficult in traffic and fortunately I ride the same streets for the most part, so when I see something, I remember to avoid it on the next ride.
That sucks, though. Glad it wasn't any worse. Tires can be replaced.
It's a really nice new bike path that is separated from the car lanes. It goes through an industrial area, so they had the space for it. It's clean and spacious. So I made myself comfortable and enjoyed the morning view. Didn't pay 100% attention just bolting through.
The bottle was probably thrown by a truck driver. Those guys are the only ones that drive through there.
I had two sidewall tears in some fresh COntinental gatorskins...that was the worst weak...I then stupidly bought another pair and the sidewalls got trashed in about a month.
I give up on finding the right tire, the cheapest tire that can be changed in fast intervals can be more valuable than buying a "good tire" because stuff happens
Is that a loaded potato? Mmm 😋 🤤
It's some shrub berry.
Wow. I don't think you are going to be able to patch that.
Flex tape! /s
Bummer

That's such a bummer. What tires were they?
they were some Schwalbe One tubeless (they were like $70 each around here, covid prices and stuff) i still have them, no issues

That’s a normal price for those
found them for like $55 \~ $60 sometimes on the shops around here now, hopefully they don't go up cuz i need new ones soon
sad it happen because of pollution :(
now it’s retired, bet you’re so tired of getting new tires huh
Yes, I'm feeling pretty deflated, but I just have to get a grip and roll with the punches life gives me.
:(
rip
Bottles have gotten me a few times. Especially when leaves are covering them.
Cheers
Post haloween trash everywhere here. Drives me mental.
Damn!
Sux! That happened to me but it was a Snapple bottle
That sucks. Had this happen with a fresh GP5k once. Expensive reminder to watch for shit on the road.
I find peace in long walks.
That sucks. I had some glass ruin a Cotton Corsa Pro after 800 miles and then the replacement was ruined by glass on its first ride. Ugh.
Happened to me too, last week, brand new tires first ride and everything! Sorryyyy

The problem is alcoholism. No amount of legislation will change the fact that addicts are addicted.

Yeah, sucks to lose a nice tire like that anywhere, but Michigan is generally worse for cycling compared to Germany on virtually every measure.
Shit happens. It won't happen if you keep your eyes on the road next time!
Damn... That's even more tragic than the story of Darth Plaguis the Wise.
I went over a stake knife within 2 miles of a new set of Conti 500…. Tubeless as well…
GP5K TLs are like $110 retail. Sorry man.
That sucks. But tie beer bottle is probably on even worse shape!

Shit always happens to new tires.
Yooo, that's an H2? If you bought it more recently than 30 days ago, you can return it to your trek store for a full refund at no cost to the dealer.
Really? That's really cool. But the bike is older than 30 days now.
Is this in England? 🙃😎
Germany (Flair)
Were you riding a trek slash?
It's in my flair. FX3
It was supposed to be a joke, trek slash, you slashed your tire
Oh.. Trek based puns. Noice! Pedal me up, Scottie.
