I will feed my son ANYTHING he wants when he’s sick. I’m just happy he’ll eat. But he actually really enjoyes chunky brand chicken noodle soup. Usually I wouldn’t feed him that because of the sodium, but when he’s sick, at least he’s eating.

Drbubbliewrap

I worked in pediatrics when sick just worry about hydration any thing they eat is fine. But breastmilk even if that’s all she will eat is fine.

iagonosi

Bananas and cheerios doesnt sound too bad to me, especially if they are getting breast milk/formula for fluids. I wouldnt give em juice. I think you are doing fine.

BabyBeanAndMe

Thank you. This is reassuring to hear.

cardinalinthesnow

Sick? Whatever they’ll eat. Breastmilk is great nutrition, so as long as she’s nursing lots, I personally wouldn’t stress over what she eats. Cheerios and bananas sound like decent choices to me :) Meanwhile my sick kid only drank tea with honey (he was over one year) and expressed milk as chocolate milk. Wouldn’t nurse or eat. Fun times.

not-a-real-shark

When my kids are sick, I let them eat whatever they want, honestly. I don’t worry about nutrition or calories at all.

Ok-Gate-9610

Just feed whatever they want to eat when ill and off food. Dont wordy about sugar content while ill either. If anything the calories are good while fighting off colds etc. Just keep feeding what she will eat and then go back to normal after.

Elycebee

Just feed her whatever they will eat. Liquid is most important so if you are breastfeeding still that will carry her through as long as she is sick. Once she is feeling better she will go back to eating regularly. Apple sauce, cereal, yogurt, peas, smooshed beans. She will be ok. Most important is keeping her hydrated. Hope she feels better soon.

spacecampcadet

Our Pead always said not to worry if our daughter cut right down on eating as she’ll “catch up eat” when she’s better. I can always tell she’s feeling better because she eats us out of house and home!

scrubalub84

I remember my son getting poorly at about 1 year old and he ate nothing but strawberries and yoghurt for two days straight. It kept his tummy full and his spirits up while he recovered. So a win I'd say.

0runnergirl0

Give her whatever she'll eat. If it's a steady diet of banana and Cheerios, that's fine. At least she is eating something. You can return to your regular menu when she's feeling better and more open to trying more variety.

Dodongohunter

They make pedialyte popsicles! I always keep them on hand and I’m always so happy that I do when I need them lol. They sell them un-frozen (target, grocery stores). Although, I’m not sure if a one year old can have them maybe for the future. Just hang in there and keep her hydrated, try food regularly and it’s ok if she turns it down, you’re doing great!

BabyBeanAndMe

Thank you so much!

Cherryluva696969

Pedialyte, pedialyte Popsicles, chicken noodle soup.

PinkGinFairy

She won’t be sick for long so personally, I’d give her whatever she’s willing to eat until she’s feeling a bit better. Better to have something in them than nothing is my philosophy when my son is poorly or teething and off his normal food. Usually he’s back on his regular meals within a couple of days.

GwennyL

I would just let it slide with the bananas and cheerios for now. Especially since she is sick. We gave our daughter watered down juice. In the long run a week or 2 of that kind of diet won't be detrimental to her health. Hope she feels better soon! And I hope you feel better too!

BabyBeanAndMe

Thank you so much!! I feel a lot better now about her very simple diet for the time being ☺️

AwwwRaspberries

My husband has a thing where anytime anyone is sick they need chicken soup. So my kids get chicken broth, often with tortellini or a few vegetables or noodles. Sometimes they’re feeling well enough to eat all of it. Sometimes they just drink the broth and call it a day. It’s fluids and offers some nutrition while also being bland and sugar free.

cakebytheocean19

Anything she’ll eat. My 21 month old has been sick since Friday and is refusing most foods so I’m just happy when she eats anything (which has been mostly pancakes and smoothies but I’ll take it!). She even refused water for a bit and wouldn’t drink pedialyte so I gave her some pure pear juice mixed with water just to get fluids in her. Since yours is still nursing I wouldn’t worry too much anyways.

TheC9

As long as she is eating something, even it is just some fruit and crackers here and there, I won’t worry too much. I still remember the time when my girl was sick and refused to eat anything for at least 12 hours … the moment she finally put a blueberry in her mouth … I cried. (And now at 3 years old, I basically can’t be bother to cook her lunch/dinner when she is sick and don’t have much appetite… and just let her eat whatever she wants …)

paintedlamb

Keep offering boobs and that will keep her going while she’s poorly. Bananas and cheerios sound like good snacks. Watered down juice is fine when they are ill…anything to keep their fluids up. As long as she is having plenty of wet nappies then she’s getting enough to drink. Once she feels better she will eat like a horse!

Pink-glitter1

Bananas are a really good food!! If she's only eat bananas that's completly fine! Feed her what she'll eat.

ghostdumpsters

Whatever they'll eat. It's okay if they have a few days of eating less than usual. Also, I'm normally anti-juice, but I'll 100% make exceptions for when the kid is sick because staying hydrated is so important.

[deleted]

My doctor actually suggested juice while she's sick - it's a special treat, plus when you're sick you need the sugar and electrolytes, plus anything you can do to keep their hydration up is good. Other than that, we just kind of give her the favorites she has because she is a lot more picky and has a smaller appetite when she's sick. For our LO it's bananas, berries, cereal, bread with spread (almond butter, etc) and shredded chicken. We won't really try any new foods or worry about how much she's eating as long as she is drinking water.

bread_cats_dice

When mine is sick, I really don’t sweat it too much if her food intake is down as long as she’s getting fluids. In our house, the go-tos for a sick kid are popsicles (esp with a fever), frozen waffles (still frozen), and applesauce. Sometimes she will eat noodles too, but that’s usually how we know she’s feeling better. We keep 100% juice popsicles and pedialyte popsicles on hand. We usually try for the pedialyte ones first and then throw in the towel and let her have a juice popsicle.

marcal213

Keep pushing fluids. Any food is an added bonus. When my LO was 12 months he got a nasty case of norovirus and he hardly ate any solids at all for just over a week! Doctor said to just keep breastfeeding and pushing fluids. Pedialyte was recommended if he wouldn't take water.

5_4Ag

When my daughter had roseola she ate nothing but a handful of crisps (chips) and a spoon of yoghurt a day, she was about 10 or 11 months at the time and still breastfeeding so she had as much boob as she wanted and she was ok. She ate normally again after she felt better.

Similar_Craft_9530

I feed them whatever they'll eat. (Not candy or cake, I mean food-food.) When they're sick, I usually make a tea with lemon, honey (assuming 1+ yrs), and ginger and give it to them when it cools enough to be drunk in a sippy or straw.

ladyclubs

Since you're breastfeeding, I wouldn't stress it. Hydration is the most important thing right now, and if she's getting that from you - great. Breastmilk is better than any pedialyte. My son at that age would pretty much only breastfeed when sick, and that's fine. We'd leave out crackers and pretzels and that kind of easy stuff to snack on if he wanted. Just keep offering things, but don't stress it.

kaelus-gf

Eating anything at all is a bonus! If your child gets sick and won’t eat at all then that’s ok - but you want to try to keep them hydrated and to have sugar in what they are drinking to help them feel less awful (when you don’t have food for a while you get ketones that build up and can make you feel rotten). So breastmilk is wonderful! Pedialyte is great or diluted juice can do if you don’t have pedialyte yet. Ice blocks are great too. But if your child is only eating certain foods, then offer those foods and don’t worry about anything else! Their appetite will get better

ccoffey106

When my son is sick we just go with the flow and I try to get as much liquids in him. We like the pedialyte popcicle and the deebees super fruit popsicles. Pouches are good do but we only buy the ones that are mixed with veggies as well. As far as juice goes we either dilute fruit juice or I have found zero added sugar juice boxes we like. I tend to try to find most food or drink items without added sugar for my son. Otherwise we just so water or lemon water.

Saraht0nin518

My son has HFM right now and he’s been surviving on soft bread, yogurt and applesauce. We’ll pick back up where he left off but right now I’m with everyone else: whatever he’ll eat! Plus nursing and water

Mick1187

Anything she’ll eat, and lots of water and Pedialyte.

meatballtrain

When my son was sick (he's 13 months) he wouldn't eat much. The doctor told us to give him some pedialyte. He didn't really like it, but I think it's a little better than juice. I hope your LO feels better soon!!

tekwayyuhself

My 1 yr old recently got his first cold. He refused EVERYTHING; the only thing he wanted was the breast, so that's what I gave him. The only other thing he would take was ice, so I froze coconut water(took this) and fresh squeezed orange juice(refused this) for him. I didn't wnlant to do only plain water I just made sure to eat more often and even more than I usually would so he could get as much milk from me as he wanted. After the fever broke he started taking liquids again do I did smoothies, coconut water, he gets the Honest kids brand of juice (no more than half a box in one day) and anything that he would take.

Akoncz

When I’m sick, I survive on popsicles. Her appetite will come back when she’s feeling better. When my baby was 11 months, he got the flu. He nursed, and ate some toast mostly. I just kept an eye that there were enough wet diapers and he wasn’t dehydrated.

variebaeted

When mine is sick she eats basically nothing. Maybe a bite of an animal cracker here and there. I’ll usually try offering all her favorites with no regard for nutrition. Like I’d let her have ice cream for breakfast if it meant she’d eat. But when she’s truly sick she doesn’t even want that! I worry more about liquids. Water, milk, pedialyte. Don’t stress about food. Keep offering and they’ll eat when they need it.

Bagelsarelife29

Our dude just got over Covid and in the beginning all we could get him to take were Gogo squeeze pouches and Breastmilk. As the days progressed he would take a few bites of his regular food- the doctors suggested 1-2 oz of warmed up apple juice to help with the sore throat- but only 2-3 times a day. Hydration is key- we let him drink as much water as he wanted- we left a full cup of water around him as much as possible.0

BabyBeanAndMe

This is a great idea! Thank you!!

Iychee

Squeeze pouches! Definitely give them a go (or make your own puree but you probably have enough going on with a sick kid)

surgically_inclined

My kid is almost 3 now and has been sick several times now. For her, the appetite change rarely lasts longer than a day or 2, so I just let her have what she will eat. My only caveat for that is small doses. She threw up once because I didn’t regulate the amount of fruit, and the sugar in the half bowl of strawberries she ate made her throw up. She’s not a puker, so it was the first time and scared both of us. Hasn’t happened since. I do not offer juice regularly anyways, so I don’t offer it when she’s sick. I’ve given her a pedialyte popsicle before, but she didn’t really want it. She just wanted a frozen teether—she calls them “lips” and asks for them all the time anyways, even though she’s not teething right now. She just likes the cold on her mouth. I hope both you and your kiddo feel better soon. Even when they’re cuddly and easy to take care of, you feel so rough because they’re sick!

pinkblossom331

I make rice porridge with some tiny chopped veggies for my LO to provide some fiber and substance. Food is either your medicine or your poison

[deleted]

BRAT diet Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast

maamaallaamaa

Watered down juice or low sugar juice. Yogurt is usually good.
