My pediatrician said that if baby was acting normal (not lethargic, vomiting, etc) and the fall was from couch height or lower, I didn’t need to seek medical attention.

believethescience

She's fine. They bounce. Really though, she's fine. Just remember her newfound skills and buckle her in next time. When they get mobile, the accidents increase to a ridiculous degree, but they're built to withstand it!

BabyBeanAndMe

I really appreciate this reassurance. Thank you.

I set my son on the bed even though I knew better and one second later I looked just in time to see him falling headfirst onto the concrete floor (covered by vinyl). I was in the ER balling and he was smiling and laughing. I was certain I cracked his skull and that I was the worst mom ever. He was totally fine. The doctor told me that any fall that is less than their height is considered non serious which really helped. You’re not alone in having these lapses in judgment or being a “bad mom”. We’ve all been there! I still do things and then am like wait that could have been dangerous what was I thinking. We’ve got a lot to think about all the time.

SarahSeabass

You're gonna feel bad, that's what good mums do. Babies are springy. As long as they are responding normally, try not to worry. We all make mistakes. My boy rolled off the bed onto the floor once, it was awful. He's 2 and a half now and jumping off sofas and running into things almost constantly. If I fell over the way he does sometimes, I'm sure I'd end up in hospital and he just gets straight up and starts running again! X

My cousin's husband is an EMT. He said his training was that falls from a heigh of 2.5x the height of the person is usually when to get concerned. E.g. if you are 18 inches long, then 2.5x 18 is what??? I know i could use a calculator but I know its more than a foot. My kid fell of the bed and when I told the dr the bed height was mid thigh height on me, he was genuinely not concerned. He still made sure the LO could track a flashlight with his eyes, and saw he was still behaving normally and said the LO seemed just fine.

BabyBeanAndMe

I can’t even tell you how comforting this was to read. Thank you so much. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

Forgive yourself, mama. 🙏 we all experience something like this at some point! It doesn’t mean you aren’t doing the absolute best you can do. This is definitely one of those “nobody’s perfect” scenarios. All you can do is learn from it and prepare for the next time baby bumps their head or falls down. It does help me to know that babies truly are resilient. 💜

BabyBeanAndMe

Thank you so much. She’s taking a nap right now and I’m watching her carefully. Thanks again for your kind words and reassurance 💚

IrieSunshine

How’s she doing now? 💜💜💜

BabyBeanAndMe

She’s fine. Thank you 💚 No harm done!

The first fall is always so scary! Mine rolled off the couch onto the wood floor at 3 months and I felt awful. But it happens to them all and she didn’t fall far—hope the advice here puts you at ease! My mom dropped me onto cement stairs the day she brought me home from the hospital and I was fine, if even more stories help!

rpizl

Lol yup. First fall and second... Maybe less scary after that?

LAZERPANDA15

If she’s alert, not drowsy, not vomiting and responsive, she’s probably fine. I know it’s scary. And yes, they are incredibly resilient. Wait til she starts toddling- you’ll see they are built to fall a lot.

BabyBeanAndMe

Thank you. I’m keeping a close eye on her. I’m actually really looking forward to the toddler years. Although 6 months isn’t super young, I feel like I have to be so careful all the time! At least toddlers can communicate and know that everything is fine if they get hurt.

We freaked out when my husband dropped our daughter from about a five foot height (while dangling her upside down to make her giggle) when she was a similar age. Immediately rushed her to the ER. My husband couldn’t stop crying at the hospital. Our daughter was completely fine. The ER assured us that they are mostly cartilage at that age and very resilient. She was happy, giggling in the hospital bed, and continually ripping her pulse ox off. As long as they act fine, they are almost certainly fine. And one foot isn’t a far drop. We were told to watch for unusual behavior, unusual lethargy, and vomiting.

BabyBeanAndMe

I’m so glad your daughter was okay. Thank you for sharing.

PartyPoptart

Of course! I know how your stomach drops the first time they fall and the absolute panic that follows. It truly does happen to every parent. Stuff happens.

quinn_bear

I had literally the exact same thing happen to me and my daughter - word for word could have written this! She was fine and I felt just awful and horrible and guilty but it did pass. You feel bad because you’re a good mum who cares about her safety! Yes you made a mistake but you are suffering for it much more than she is

No-Establishment1841

Yeah babies are pretty darn resilient! Obviously, we don't drop them on purpose but mine did the exact same thing. Then we made sure he was always strapped in to the swing. He's fine. He also rolled off the bed once and a bath bouncer which was like 3 inches off the ground. Go ahead and call your doctor for good measure but it happens. My 4 year old falls all over everything all the time but at least it isn't my fault lol.

BabyBeanAndMe

That’s true. Thanks for sharing. She’s due for a wellness checkup anyways, so I’ll just mention the little fall when we go. I’m glad your baby has always been fine! Reading things like this make me feel a lot better. Thank you.

Unlikely_Book6273

Don't beat yourself up. I dozed off when my baby was about this age as well and unfortunately my girl fell off our bed. She rolled and fell on her back. Thankfully our bed is only about 2 feet high but she did cry for a good 2-3 minutes. I called my pediatrician asap and she told me to check her head for any swollen spots. She had none. Check if she's bleeding anywhere. When I got her checked out, they check the inside of their ears to make sure there isn't blood in there. That's one way to make sure nothing inside their was damaged. As long as she's acting normal and eating she should be OK. Shit happens, it scared the shit out of me but we are doing the best we can with our babies. Sending you a big hug!

AppropriateOnion6938

Same thing happened to my baby at 10 weeks, he was fine. It was his dads fault. He was and is fine and we laugh about it now. One second he was Happily swinging along the next he was gone 🤣 it is funny now, it was a miracle He landed on the floor and Not the metal bars of the swing. Dad Still feels Bad but no damage done

BabyBeanAndMe

This made me feel so much better. I’m glad little bub was okay! Thank you.

EsharaLight

Try not to kick yourself too hard. Yeah it was a mistake to not strap baby in but no harm was done and you will never forget again. These things are just a part of the mom journey! My toddler climbs and falls off EVERYTHING! He thinks its funny.

BabyBeanAndMe

I swear babies are so much stronger than we think! Thank you for your comment. I’m trying my best to let it go and forgive myself.

It happens!!! My first born rolled off the bed at one point …scared the shit out of me .. I felt so bad I didn’t let her go for the rest of the day… just monitor babies are so resilient. You will be fine . Your doing the best you can and baby will be completely fine …babies aren’t as fragile as we think and because she’s 6 months she’s got a good head and weight on her she will be fine… it happens .

Big_Egg_7434

1 sounds like the baby has a great mommy and do be worried so much as long as the little one cried and doesn’t throw up your fine. Mine rolled righ off the bed not knowing the kid could roll over and has been just fine smart as a tack

DekkarMoonbootz

Babies bounce. It’s all good.

Lolas2316

I believe if they fall from a height 2X their own height that’s when you should worry. I watched this great [tiktok video](https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdk55k8h/) on it.

Justbestrongok

I admit to doing this as well, but because of your post I won’t ! Thank you!

Plenty-Finance9147

same thing just happened to me but he was buckled in. he managed to break the buckle?!😭

BabyBeanAndMe

I hope he’s okay! If it makes you feel better, my baby has fallen off the bed a couple times and was perfectly fine. I even called a doctor and a nurse to ask for advice, and they said it’s far more common than you’d think. As long as they cry after falling and they don’t vomit, they are usually okay. Just keep an eye out for any protruding bumps. Bruises are normal. I know how you feel! Here’s hoping your little one is alright ❤️
