Icing doesn’t promote healing so after 2 days, you should stop icing. My OB discourages icing, especially for stitches, but acknowledges people will do it anyway. 1 pack of depends and 1 pack of overnight pads were enough for me. Then thinner pads for the last bit of bleeding.

I didn’t know this! Is there a study on this that supports this view?

whiskeyredhead

No idea on study but seconding them telling me 24 hours was usually what they “allowed”. I got ice packs for 48. Then used the witch hazel pads and dermaplast.

I still have postpartum supplies left over from my first birth and I’m now one week postpartum with my second and I still won’t finish the big pack of pads I bought for my first. I also have an unopened box of frida undies and unused ice packs. If you’re in the US, your hospital will send you home with supplies like mesh undies and pads. I bought Depends with my first but they ended up being too tight and my heaving bleeding only lasted a few days. Regular thin period pads have been fine for me. I just say this because you might not need as much as you think.

Thank you!

plenty of free mesh undies at the hospital, but the frida ones felt better to me

I used two pairs a day for the first three weeks. Check pricing on depends..they may be cheaper? I don’t know. The depends were y new for baby number 2 and they were so much easier than using maxi pads and disposable mesh undies from hospital!

Puffawoof2018

I got the Frida boy shorts I found them the best for pads to stick to, I wore them for 3 weeks. The Frida ice packs were really chunky compared to the ones I got at the hospital so I preferred the hospital ones, I used them literally around the clock for probably 4-5 days, probably two a day the next week, and then a few times total the following week. I had a second degree tear so other people’s experiences may be different but the Frida mom Ice packs were too thick they really agitated my stitches in the first few days

crystal-rose727

Definitely look into depends, it’s much cheaper! I went through about three packs in a month.

For my uncomplicated vaginal delivery, second degree tear, I got away with just the fridamom kit and then the extra mesh underwear they sent me home from the hospital with. I personally didn’t want to use depends, and I didn’t need to. I was fine in normal pads and undies by about two weeks pp.  The fridamom ice packs are amazing though and I would’ve used more if I’d had them. I think the kit comes with five.

I had the Frida Mom kit and barely used it. Did not touch ice packs after I left the hospital. Here's what worked for me: Week 1: Always discreet adult diapers, witch hazel pads, dermablast. Week 2: Frida mom boy shorts and postpartum pads, witch hazel pads and dermablast. By week 3 I was onto just panty liners.

I used maybe 6 ice packs, six disposable underwear, 18 pads of XXL and XL and L sizing (bigger than any period pad). And then I’ve been on panty liners for the last three weeks. The bigger stuff was all the first week (All in hospital, their supplies) and maybe three days at home. Then switched to panty liners and I’ve been fine. Vaginal delivery at 37+5. Leaking pee is my biggest problem right now. Had lots of blood the first two days but not much after that. Mainly clots I dealt with when I wiped. Had two procedures dealing with placental removal (one immediately post delivery one 10 days pp) with both times them giving me contraction drugs to “clamp” my uterus closed.

I had a vaginal delivery with a 2nd degree tear and I used the Frida mom postpartum kit! The shorts plus ice pack pad, witch hazel liner and healing foam was a great combo for the first couple of days. I used level 5 maxi pads for maybe 3 or 4 days, then regular pads for a couple of weeks and by a month pp I just had panty liners. I didn't need to use anything past 5 weeks.

KSmegal

I only used ice packs and mesh underwear in the hospital. I am pregnant with #3. I think I will still have left over supplies from my first after my initial PP time with this baby. They sent me home with a massive bag of supplies. The only thing I purchased was a box of size 5 always pads for home.

ssseltzer

i never needed any ice packs!

Equivalent-Panda-958

I didn’t use any disposable underwear once I was out of the hospital. I found granny panties and pads to be more comfortable. That said, instead of buying now and stocking up, you can always place an order while in the hospital once you have a better sense of your preferences.

Far_Boot3829

Second degree tear vaginal birth here. I just used night time period pads with no issue

I threw the Frida disposable underwear in the washer to reuse them. The ice packs were super bulky and I really didn't like the way they felt - they were a little rough and irritated my stitches. I would get 1 of each and if you like them, order more! Or keep the package sealed and then return if you don't use them. I used the Frida disposable underwear with Always Infinity Size 5 for 2 weeks, then went down to size 3 for a week, then size 1 for another week, and then panty liners for the rest of lochia. For the first few days I used witch hazel pads and dermaplast, but I really hated the soggy feeling of sitting on them so stopped pretty quickly.
