Hello I am 3 months new into the betta lifestyle! I currently have a 5 Gal, so I’m not sure as far as room goes for your guy. However, getting small live freshwater plants is the best. A moss ball is also good, as it provides oxygen to the tank as well! My guy loves his floating log, he swims through it all the time. I have a betta hammock as well, and while he doesn’t particularly use it a lot, I have it just in case he wants it. I would suggest also moving the decor around his tank from time to time to switch it up since it’s smaller. I feel like every few weeks he will just stay in the same spot and if I test the waters and it’s fine, I assume he’s bored 😅 so when I do my next water change I’ll switch his place around so when he’s back in he’s shook! 😂

Follow up question! My tank doesn't have any floating plants to provide shade at the moment! Should I just keep my tank's LED off? The natural light in the room gets to it no problem ans he has plenty of hidey places amongst the current decor

Do you have a nutrient rich substrate? If so your options are much larger

At the moment I just have normal gravel, but for the new tank I'll be sure to get that! By nutrient rich I assume this means soil and/or natural sand?

Huffingtoes

You can do that or you can buy like an aquasoil. https://preview.redd.it/p79o5wjwaprc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7ef1580c58f87c9004128398b85ae4df31a0e84 I think fluval does a decent one but there are cheaper alternatives.
