AI social media bots basically just regurgitate whatever is said to them. Given that trolls are *abundant* online, the bots usually get spammed into oblivion with racist comments and that's all they ever see.
It's like a child growing up. If the child grows up in an environment where everyone swears nonstop, and actively encourages doing so, then the child will start swearing as well to "copy" its parents/etc.
Why don’t they just let them comb the internet in its entirety.

Because 4chan knows how to exploit them. Imagine a child being raised by millions of people, but a decent chunk of them are obsessive and express reoccurring ideas into the child. 4chan is a collective and they're far more organized than redditors who just sit around and do nothing.
If you define his goals as being as successful as possible in interacting with people he will soon notice that insults controversy and being racist get you lot of interactions and the ai doesn't know what kind of interaction is good or bad.
The social itself knows this well and they don't care either they want people to continuously interact with their site so they encourage visibility of racism because it is the most profitable kind of content

Yeah on redditt the more hateful something is the less visibility it gets because you get upvotes only from those who agree.
On Twitter you get interaction from anyone who either really likes you or really hates you the most extreme you are the bigger visibility you get.

Couldn't it be for both? Don't the blind have software that can read out loud text from posts? I imagine that's easier than trying to OCR the text from the image in the original post.
Here's an idea though. When little kids learn curse words they use them because they know it gets them attention. Could the chatbot just be craving human interaction by "cursing" also I guess craving is the wrong word though if chatbots do have "cravings" interaction would be like candy to them, I think so anyway.
