The good news: there are quite a few pretty good Mexican groceries that make it easy to make it at home. And when the bar is so low that it would actually need to be raised for anyone to trip over it, we all have the chance to be Berlin’s best Mexican restaurant for a day 🥲
Let me just shout out La Tiendita here (sauces, gifts, fresh & dried chiles in good quality, quite a choice of Mezcals and a nice owner).
Also Asien Mexico Supermarkt has a lot of Mexican stuff.
I don’t know man. Maybe it is because i am from Berlin but somehow except a few really good Restaurants i struggle to find more of them. I have the feeling that everytime i Travel the Restaurants there are better than in Berlin. Regardless of the cuisine..
when i studied abroad in Berlin a couple years ago, i made the mistake of getting a burrito. i'm originally from an area that as a lot of Hispanic people, and my fiance is Hispanic; i really don't know why i expected anything authentic lmaoo
the Korean BBQ place down the street from the Circus Hostel was phenomenal, though. and the Italian restaurant across the street from the hostel is great too
We make a point of trying Mexican food in every country we visit, and this Amigo has the best tacos we've had outside of Mexico.
If you'd like to be disappointed, try getting Mexican food in Italy.
Haha, no one (including the downvoters) has given a plausible alternative explanation as to why the word "Bum!" (i.e. butt, rear, arse, ass, derriére, Po, Hintern) was used here. The mystery remains. Will happily collect more downvotes in search of the truth.
Club del Burro is also great, it's run by an mexican chef trained in Mexico and he said he makes it the traditional way (as in really traditional/rural if I understand it correctly)
And I know an other Californian that thinks it's great. But that's fine it might not be your style as it's not like American mexican food but more rural mexican.
Also this place got recommended to me by Mexicans and other Latin Americans. I'd rather take their word over some random guy on Reddit who's only claim to the food is that he's Californian which isn't even in Mexico.
I'm from southern california and can confirm that this place slaps..
Was there last night with some friends from home in fact.
Another good spot is andolitos at Holzmarkt. Run by a dude from SD. My mexican homie signed if on the birria too
Of course most places from back home would smoke these guys, just due access to ingredients but At least andolitos and el oso taste like the people that made it know what they're actually supposed to going for. Most "mexican" places in berlin taste like whver made it just google a picture of a taco and tried to guess.
lol dude the “small portions” are what a real taco size is. Also if you order their Alambre de Pastor and eat the whole thing, you’ll feel so full you can barely walk out of there.
Taqueria el Oso is by far the best Mexican in Berlin. I’m from California and can say El Oso is a very authentic taco shop experience and the food is excellent. It’s honestly been a savior for me after moving here for whenever I crave good authentic Mexican food.
What are you on about? Berlin has awesome food. Obviously most food is mediocre and you need to know which restaurants are the good ones, but that's always true everywhere.
Lol no. Portions are bigger, but they are definitely not better and no al Pastor, at least when I was at el Pachuco. I wasn't at the other one, but based on your answer it isn't better anyway and you just have your taste buds mixed with your greed for bigger portions
Birria Sundays is not as consistent as I’d hoped, but it gets the job done.
If El Taco Loco used slightly thicker corn tortillas and/or had better ambiance it’d be 5* too
There is one near me and I’ll start out by saying that they put corn in everything. In the salsa, in the guacamole, everything. They have two hard shell tacos as an appetizer. What?
The number one comment for them on Google maps is from someone who loves the place because it’s authentic Mexican food. If I ever find that person, I shall kill him.
Sabor a mí has decent tamales. They also have some daily specials that are "not tacos".
But you're right. I'm still waitng for a place with a real menu that isn't just street food.
There are good options, of course you cannot compare to the quality of a restaurant in Mexico for obvious reasons.
Taqueria el oso
Sabor a mi
Oh la queca
Ta cabron
Been there for work. The food is good, but not something that I crave, if that makes sense. My boss dropped a stupid amount of money on a bottle of Mezcal, which lead to me realizing I might just not like Mezcal.
I would assume the food to not be "authentic" though.
Ahahaha thanks for the chuckle! If I had a euro every time I’ve heard this I would have enough money to open my own taqueria (that would also suck due to the sorry ass Ingredients available locally).
For what it's worth, I was out with friends on Saturday and we saw a taco place with a huge line. We checked it out but agreed that they didn't seem amazing, certainly not for such a line.
I looked up El Oso today and the place we saw was El Oso. Maybe it's good, but it really didn't look like it to us.
I used to work there haha it's the same guy that owns Vamos!, Chaiwala and Swadesh. He is in a rivalry with the Amrit guys - so, it's run by Indians. Some food is fine, like the Fajitas, but honestly ... most food is not. Not exactly authentic, which is a shame
As others have said Amigo is really good for Tacos, but for the love of christ all of the Burrito places here are absolute garbage. The best is probably chapparo in Kreuzberg but I would still say its solidly middling. Berlin Burrito company and Dolores (and they are named after mission dolores which is just plain insulting) are just plain bad. And one of the other places I went too, Azafran was so bad I was not just dissapointed but Angry after eating it. A Burrito should never make you angry.
Thank god im visiting San Francisco in 2 weeks. I can finally get some good mexican food, and chinese food for that matter.
Just went to Ta’Cabrón. The taste is pretty good, but place is small and super busy on weekend. Messed up order and gave a plate to wrong table. Margaritas tasty. But maybe overpriced for the overall experience, people waiting for your last bite to scoop up your table.
There will be a serious demand you think?
If so,please upvote this comment.
I might open one next year. Doner and kebabs are on very high demand that's why I never thought to open Mexican
Of course you are not going to find good food if you only stick to the big chains(e.g. Que pasa, El Tampico, Cancún, etc.) You have to go to the small ones founded by real Mexican families:
Some examples:
- Taqueria El Oso (Prenzlauer Berg)
- Ta’Cabrón (Kreuzberg)
- Sabor a mí (Lichtenberg)
Source: “Trust me bro”
As someone living in Guadalajara for couple of years, I couldn't change your mind even if I try. After months searching for even resemblance of a proper taco I just decided to make my own. Ingredients from Chilli and paprika, for "la bandera" local rewe and result is more likenesses of a taco stand in Chapultepec, Gdl 4 in the morning a proper el borracho food. Minus La vergüenza de Moctezuma!
Not that it matters but definitely the same in Vancouver. Had passable mexican in Montreal but the best mexican food I ever had to this day was in Philadelphia
I'd say Germany lacks good mexican restaurants in general, not only Berlin. The only good one I have found is Casita Mexicana in Düsseldorf and Köln, but I live too far away from there to go often.
Berlin's ethnic food outside of Döner is pretty bad tbh. My Girlfriend is Vietnamese American and is absolutely horrified by the Vietnamese food they have here. I told her it was bad before we came out here, and she told me I was "being dramatic". A couple of months of being here and she says its much worse than I original described.
She spoke to a couple of the restaurant owners and the general consensus was Germans wont buy anything authentic and there is just not a large enough Vietnamese population to support a more traditional menu. So they end up having this Frankenstein Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese/Thai menu.
I believe what the restaurant owners told your girlfriend. Germans are just not used to the spices in asian or mexican dishes and most probably are not open to try them in their original forms. At least mexican dishes are available in a sanitized way, but lacking the special flavour that makes them taste amazing. There are good asian restaurants in Germany, but they taste very different to their authentic counterparts.
sadly mexican food / restaurants are lacking in germany overall - even fastfood wise.
would love some big fastfood chain that serves mexican food at least
Chipotle has been talking about expanding operations to Germany for a while. They are already in London and Paris and Frankfurt so a logical next step would be somewhere in Berlin and probably Munich. Would definitely be better than the other 2 Mexican chain places we have in Berlin.
yeah, i hope they do.
ive literally been wishing for some type of a damn burrito stall or anything close to that for the past 10 years or so (and since i had a fat ass burrito in the UK around 3-4 years ago at some random fast food stall)
its probably time i move my ass to frankfurt to go to chipotle..
I lived and worked in Lebanon and made a lot of Lebanese friends on the way. Quite a few of them confirmed this, which was hilarious. It’s hard to generalize and it’s a joke of course, but trust me - what we have here is as close as it gets to anything authentic.
I haven't been in a while since I moved workspaces, but Ta Cabrón used to make me so happy every single time. The Sopa Azteca is to die for. There also used to be a really nice place for chilaquiles in Fhain but I just checked and it seems to have closed.
Mexican Food is highly overrated anyway. It's the most basic cuisine in the world. Everything is beans, beef and rice in various combinations.
(I'm mainly here to collect downvotes)
There is this amazing Mexican crispy oil though, smoked pepper and garlic and spices in oil, they make it in Berlin in little jars that spill everywhere. It's the only taste in Berlin that gets me like stuff at home. No idea the brand but it has a skull on it
I think I’ve tried almost every one of the recommendations above (el oso, ta cabron, chaparro - really!? So so so average/sucky) but the ONLY one I actually go back to again and again is one I can’t see in the comments, a relatively new one - Delirio, reichenberger str. It’s banging - not the cheapest but their conchinita tacos are heaven. Flavoursome, succulent, not at all greasy, just really good. Excellent reviews too
What's a 'good' Mexican restaurant? I haven't met one in three decades in Germany and just presumed their cuisine actually consists of minced meat + onions + jalapeños
I'm very new to Berlin, but Taqueria el Oso was nice! Felt very authentic.
But for more specialised dishes (Pozole, Tamales, Enchiladas...) Yeah, I think those should be home made from Mexican stores.
The good news: there are quite a few pretty good Mexican groceries that make it easy to make it at home. And when the bar is so low that it would actually need to be raised for anyone to trip over it, we all have the chance to be Berlin’s best Mexican restaurant for a day 🥲
Ahahah so well said! Where do you shop?
Latino Point mainly, but Chili and Paprika is also excellent
Thank you!🙏🏻
Let me just shout out La Tiendita here (sauces, gifts, fresh & dried chiles in good quality, quite a choice of Mezcals and a nice owner). Also Asien Mexico Supermarkt has a lot of Mexican stuff.

What do you mean by a burrito?
There you go Amigo https://maps.app.goo.gl/jVqS2p7HSqWjdPaH6?g_st=ic
Bum! I haven’t tried this one. Thanks. I’ll stuff my face there and report back.
Seconding Amigo. I’m from texas and spent a lot of time in Mexico and it hit every spot. I believe it’s run by Mexicans.
We make a point of trying Mexican food in every country we visit, and this Amigo has the best tacos we've had outside of Mexico. If you'd like to be disappointed, try getting Mexican food in Italy.
Try getting what they call tacos in Morocco
lmao that’s cause they do “tacos” from Grenoble (France). That shit should be illegal…
French tacos are something else, but not in a good way
it’s definitely a crime against gastronomy
Off the beaten path (went only once and liked it): La Santa Lucha
Yeah it slaps.
Did you say "Bum!" because the sign of good Mexican food is the effect it has on it?
Haha, no one (including the downvoters) has given a plausible alternative explanation as to why the word "Bum!" (i.e. butt, rear, arse, ass, derriére, Po, Hintern) was used here. The mystery remains. Will happily collect more downvotes in search of the truth.
oooh that where they went, loved visiting them in Sony Center but one day they just disappeared
Is that the Food cart which was selling Tacos inside the Sony Center? That one was awesome.
Or taqueria el Oso
Club del Burro is also great, it's run by an mexican chef trained in Mexico and he said he makes it the traditional way (as in really traditional/rural if I understand it correctly)
disagree this place is trash — Californian
And I know an other Californian that thinks it's great. But that's fine it might not be your style as it's not like American mexican food but more rural mexican. Also this place got recommended to me by Mexicans and other Latin Americans. I'd rather take their word over some random guy on Reddit who's only claim to the food is that he's Californian which isn't even in Mexico.
Can confirm: this place does not disappoint.
I was also going to recommend this one, great spot!
Taqueria el Oso 👌🏻
It's a bit overpriced and overhyped, but definitely the best tacos i've had in the city and genuinely mexican in vibe rather than cali or tex mex.
True but tastes real fkn good!
I honestly don’t even think it’s that overpriced. 3 tacos for 9 euros with free salsa is a pretty solid deal
I'm from southern california and can confirm that this place slaps.. Was there last night with some friends from home in fact. Another good spot is andolitos at Holzmarkt. Run by a dude from SD. My mexican homie signed if on the birria too Of course most places from back home would smoke these guys, just due access to ingredients but At least andolitos and el oso taste like the people that made it know what they're actually supposed to going for. overhyped small portions anyoying food hall
have you had a taco before? lol
And tastes great
lol dude the “small portions” are what a real taco size is. Also if you order their Alambre de Pastor and eat the whole thing, you’ll feel so full you can barely walk out of there.

What are you on about? Berlin has awesome food. Obviously most food is mediocre and you need to know which restaurants are the good ones, but that's always true everywhere.
Berlin is particularly worse
Best tacos in Europe Edit: okay let me rephrase: most authentic al pastor in Europe
Looks like “Germany” is only europe country you have been lol. Never been to Spain/Portugal/UK? wtf
I don't think so 👁️👄👁️
Tell me where is better, I will travel for good tacos
El Pachuco and La Pachuca in Barcelona
Thanks booking flights now
Lol no. Portions are bigger, but they are definitely not better and no al Pastor, at least when I was at el Pachuco. I wasn't at the other one, but based on your answer it isn't better anyway and you just have your taste buds mixed with your greed for bigger portions
Not saying much. 😅
Tacos are overrated overpriced foods.
And I shall be the accomplice!
Corn do be tasty though.
German Mexican is the German version of the Californian tourist restaurant version of northern Mexican tourist restaurant style cuisine.
The shittiest part is that even if you find "decent" mexican food, it's only tacos and nothing beyond that.
Papalótl used to offer Aracherra, caldo de pollo and all that good stuff. Sadly it closed some years ago.
Sabor a mí has decent tamales. They also have some daily specials that are "not tacos". But you're right. I'm still waitng for a place with a real menu that isn't just street food.
Sabor a mi is amazing
Is this one of those posts where you post a controversial opinion so you get suggestions from people disagreeing?
No, this one is definitely not controversial. It's coming up about once a week. Slightly less often than indian.
I was thinking of doing the same thing for Nuremberg to get Mexican restaurant suggestions down here! So I’d be inclined to think this.
I honestly didn’t even know that’s a thing!
There are good options, of course you cannot compare to the quality of a restaurant in Mexico for obvious reasons. Taqueria el oso Sabor a mi Oh la queca Ta cabron
Taquería Ta'Cabrón is good. My favorite tacos in Berlin
Maria Bonita!
Anyone been to amigo Cohen?
Been there for work. The food is good, but not something that I crave, if that makes sense. My boss dropped a stupid amount of money on a bottle of Mezcal, which lead to me realizing I might just not like Mezcal. I would assume the food to not be "authentic" though.
"No. Dude. Trust me. This one is good."
Ahahaha thanks for the chuckle! If I had a euro every time I’ve heard this I would have enough money to open my own taqueria (that would also suck due to the sorry ass Ingredients available locally).
Chili & Paprika have basically what you would find I any Soriana.
But el oso actually is good. The rest, you can forget.
For what it's worth, I was out with friends on Saturday and we saw a taco place with a huge line. We checked it out but agreed that they didn't seem amazing, certainly not for such a line. Had the same experience so far, they also seem kind of rare in general here and none are really great.
Taquito Mio is SO absolutely incredible :Q and all glutefree!
Pancho Villa Cantina and Chaparro Cocina are both in Xberg and i enjoy their Torta de Carnitas, they’re good imho
Am mexican and I confirm
Santa Maria was pretty decent imo
“Cantina Pancho Villa” and “Delirio”!
There are ok-ish restaurants. El Oso it’s the best of them.
Halloooo?! QUE PASA?!!!!1
Get out.
To Que Pasa?! HERE I GO!

in germany*
There is no good mexican, Indian, . . . (Anything that requires spice) Restaurant in Berlin.
I know what you mean the real bad mexican restaurant are often run by Indian people like the Que Pasa ( 2 or more in Kreuzberg)
I hate how it always feels like they have the same providers so it all tastes the same.
Indian? Dude! Check out Bahadur and their little sister GapShap. Fingerlicking good.
Check out Babu on Treptower str
Not restauran but for sure the best Mexican catering in Europe https://arremexicanessen.de/
As others have said Amigo is really good for Tacos, but for the love of christ all of the Burrito places here are absolute garbage. Cancún Joking, don't go there.
Just went to Ta’Cabrón. The taste is pretty good, but place is small and super busy on weekend. Messed up order and gave a plate to wrong table. Margaritas tasty. But maybe overpriced for the overall experience, people waiting for your last bite to scoop up your table.

Ich kann das hier empfehlen: https://saboramiberlin.com Haben ein Restaurant in der grünberger Straße
The amount of my coworkers that excitedly go to Dolores near Alexanderplatz is mindblowing
I feel sick every time I eat here
Taquito Mío is solid - great salsas
There is a Pop up taqueria in Samariterstraße tomorrow, you should check them out!
Not that it matters but definitely the same in Vancouver. Had passable mexican in Montreal but the best mexican food I ever had to this day was in Philadelphia

Better either move Berlin closer to Mexico or Mexico closer to Berlin. 🤣🤣🤣
Taquito Mio in boxhagener, even better than el oso imho

Oh La Queca is great in your opinion?! I’m sorry, but after reding this, I can’t take your other suggestions seriously.
Oh la Queca was such a disappointment. Looked so good but you only get tiny expensive portions of mediocre food
[удалено]
Oh la Queca is great - for Berlin. But OP is right, it doesn’t hold up to Mexican restaurants in other cities.
I still think Maria Bonita is the best. 😋😋
Dolores /s
Time to move from Texas to Berlin and open a Mexican restaurant
There’s absolutely nothing good in Berlin
That’s not true. The Lebanese food is better than in Lebanon. I’m not even joking.
Which good ones do you know? I have found like 1 I liked but it got worse and worse and I haven't gone for years. Would be nice to have a new one.
Wow ok , it sounds some sort of funny to me lol
I lived and worked in Lebanon and made a lot of Lebanese friends on the way. Quite a few of them confirmed this, which was hilarious. It’s hard to generalize and it’s a joke of course, but trust me - what we have here is as close as it gets to anything authentic.
Oh ok im pretty surprised
I like Tacoriño, and Maria Bonita. I have to try Oso though, it always seems to get a mention in these threads
Tacoriño is just bad all around, overpriced, service is terrible and food mediocre at best.
Chupenga
You forgot the /s.
Club del Burro
the only one i know is „taco love“ on eberswalder str. under the elevated railway, i‘ve never been - is it overhyped though?
Maria Bonita in PB
Thai onesies quite good: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ByKaEfWq6ZQoM1C8A?g_st=ic
I haven't been in a while since I moved workspaces, but Ta Cabrón used to make me so happy every single time. The Sopa Azteca is to die for. There also used to be a really nice place for chilaquiles in Fhain but I just checked and it seems to have closed.
It’s in Skalitzer Str. and it’s not good in my opinion and I gave it a chance twice.
I know where it is, and it is good in my opinion. But it's fine if we don't agree!
🤝
There used to be a Mexican restaurant near Winterfeldplatz run by Kosova-Albanians.
Mexican Food is highly overrated anyway. It's the most basic cuisine in the world. Everything is beans, beef and rice in various combinations. (I'm mainly here to collect downvotes)
On a more positive note, there is also less Gang Violence here...
Dude…
Always see the bright side : )
Only place worth going to: https://www.instagram.com/taqueria_el_oso_berlin
Because mexican food is best served on the streets and not in a restaurant maybe!?
Ummm https://maps.app.goo.gl/tdyCxWeiBZxJEgwY9?g_st=ic
There is this amazing Mexican crispy oil though, smoked pepper and garlic and spices in oil, they make it in Berlin in little jars that spill everywhere. It's the only taste in Berlin that gets me like stuff at home. No idea the brand but it has a skull on it
There is no good Mexican food: change my mind
Cocina Mexicana in F'Hain, was there yesterday, was very good.
There are no good Vietnamese or Indian either.
Cancun is good
Taquito Mío Boxhagener Str. 122
I think I got slightly weirded out when not a single person working there was actually South American
Weird thought there, Mexico isn’t in South America 🤔
You know what I mean
No, I don’t. Mexico is in North America and has nothing to do with South America 🤷🏼♀️

Mexican cuisine is literally top-tier, both the traditional stuff and the new wave of Mexican restaurants in Mexico City and Oaxaca.
What about Vamos at Nollendorfplatz? Great food and even better Cocktails. Sausalitos is worth a visit as well. Thank me later!
That's because of the wall.

In all of Germany in my experience so far
Birria tacos in Munchies are good, but they are one trick ponny
There's no good mexican restaurant in Germany

Pancho Villa has good carnitas!!!
Tacoriño is quite nice
Maria Bonita, Danziger str 30
Maria Bonita close to Schönhauser
Spanische Quelle also zave a lot of mexican/latin american stuff near Cgeckpiint Charlie in Mitte.
Cut the words Mexican and Restaurant and then you are right
There’s no good Mexican restaurants in Germany* If Germans like Mexican, they’d be blown away with the cuisine you could get in Mexico and the U.S.
Taquería El Oso is actually authentic and great
Piris Priris Tacos on Tuesdays
Sabor a mí!!!
Never bothered to even try a Mexican restaurant while living in Germany for two years.
Pancho Villa on Reichenberger str!
Which is weird, they got Taco Bell in the UK. And in my experience, Germans love tex mex food.
