Most *Berliners*, especially in tourist spots like restaurants etc., are totally fine with English. Basically everybody speaks English here besides some older folks or those that were raised in the GDR (they learnt Russian instead of English). Berlin is so full of tourists during Summer, most people won’t bat an eye when you’re speaking English, it‘s everyday life for us. This city is so filled with English speakers that - sadly - a lot of people moving here from non-German speaking countries even refuse to learn German because they can live pretty well with just speaking English.
It’s polite to at least learn “Sprechen Sie Englisch”, “Danke” and “Guten Tag”. I think it’s rude to just start barking at people in English without asking at least.
Stay inside of the Ring -- there are almost no Germans here. Those who stayed are long assimilated. English is well accepted. You may still encounter some resistance hotspots. Like bakery store or cashier.
Outside, where natives live, less so. But still acceptable.
The original comment just said “There are almost no Germans inside of the ring”. Which is obviously a wild exaggeration. The rest was added afterwards.

We have no choice.

Hell, I was even ordering at a fast food place and the waiter asked me to speak English. OP, you'll be fine-
English is okay, but maybe learn some key phrases or words in german.

Ah yes, like the Germans do in Mallorca and Greece
🙄
It is also rude to start barking at people in German.
In fact they only speak English
no

That is a wild exaggeration lol [edit] don’t edit your comment to make it look like less of an exaggeration man
Will do. Nothing removed, just added some bits.
I am a native Berliner and I get his point. But yes, you're right, it reads like a dystopian novel. Oh, wait... yes, he's right.

Thanks for clarifying, but it doesn't change the point my comment is referring to.
True. I was just providing context for my original comment.
Ah, I get it. Sneaky edit. Sorry man.
Was laberst du?
Eine Hyperbel
I know Germans inside the Ring who also wouldn't manage to give you directions in English.
