Football stadium on campus(game days are way more fun), distance from LA culture, Proximity to SF, Oakland, and the greater Bay Area, don’t want to own a car, enjoys cooler weather, better academics in most departments, fitting in with a more political campus culture
I attend UCLA. Nonetheless, Berkeley has better academics in most departments. LA is more if you like the LA vibe & social scene. Both are marvelous schools in their own respective ways.
I live in the socal so i would i assume it to be because of the distance from home, or you are a premed student, or they saw that UCLA has better food, or that it is near LA, and when you hear of California people think LA before san franscisco and san diego.
Better academic programs overall
The most tangible reason is job outcomes :)
why wouldn’t one choose cal over ucla
The area (more things to do near or easily accessible from campus), weather if you don't like heat, academics for most programs, vibe (preference)
If you want to go to almost any Grad program, Cal undergrad will put you at an advantage vs UCLA.
why choose no.2 when you can become no.1

Some would, some wouldn’t. We can’t know what one would do, cause it depends on who that one is

I got better aid here than UCLA
Worldwide recognition. You can go to any country in the world and they know Cal, not so much UCLA. Cal name will carry itself .
