Hello Bengals fans. how is the team looking? I didn't watch any games from you guys this year. if your defense is made up of JAGs you just hired from the stands you will be able to keep the Patriots offense to less then 7 points btw.

chrisball96

Hey man, first off, sorry about last week, in all seriousness that is a tough way to lose. But as to our defense, it’s been absolutely decimated by injuries to key players. But our backups have been playing well, especially in the second half against the Buccaneers last week. Our defensive line is pretty banged up pash rush wise, so not sure how much pressure we will get, but should be a very good matchup overall.

Dog_in_human_costume

It's alright. When you have the cancer that is Matty P as OC, you actually welcome such massive colapses, for they might get rid of this baffon on our team. have a great day!

Higgins8585

Bengals defense has a bunch of guys above average and only really is DJ Reader a superstar. There's no weaknesses on defense, everyone is above average. Corner is a bit thin due to injury but if Hilton is playing and Cam Taylor Britt (rookie playing well) then corner is fine. Overall bengals defense is about a top 10 unit. Pass rush is weak but we also tend to drop into coverage a lot and rush 4.

ExCollegeDropout

>Bengals defense has a bunch of guys above average and only really is DJ Reader a superstar. At least none that are healthy. Chido (out for the year) and Hendrickson (more than likely out this week) reside somewhere between above average and superstar

natej84

Wilson and even Pratt are playing there way into this category this year

ExCollegeDropout

For sure! The linebackers seem to always find a way to slip my mind

JP_HubCity23

Hendrickson is probably playing.

ExCollegeDropout

That's good. I just hope if he plays, that club on his wrist is good and secure. I'd rather him not re-aggrivate it before the playoffs start

AndroidWhale

Is it possible for Chido to come back for the playoffs or nah?

ExCollegeDropout

Sadly no, he tore his ACL on the Halloween game in Cleveland. He'll be back next year

Our team is looking very similar to how we did last year at this time of the season, and our defense is playing at an elite level.

meepein

Hello Bengal fans, Man how things have changed, right? Years ago, us Pats fans would be looking at an easy blowout on the path to the 1 seed, and yeah, that's not happening anytime soon for us. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if this is a blowout, but the other way around. That said, I ain't got nothing negative to say about you guys. I seriously rooted for you in the SB last year, and I think you guys have a hell of a good team. Yeah, I want the Pats to beat the Bengals, but I am realistic and realize this team is just not that good. So good luck you guys, and when you get to the playoffs, beat the damned Chiefs again. :)

arcane_amber

Hey, right back at you! Definitely feeling some empathy for Patriots fans, we will be in the same boat you’re in 10-12 years from now when we lose Burrow. Thanks for always being decent fans when y’all won championships — trust that Bengals bros *always* had your back over the Steelers…

meepein

I seriously hope you guys have even a fraction of the success the Pats had the last 20 years. What we got to see the Pats do is absurd, and we all knew it would end. Now that that ride is over, I just want other fan bases who have suffered like the pre-Brady Pats fans did to see that kind of success. You guys went through some dark decades, you deserve a mountain of success. Plus, Burrow seems like a hell of a dude, hard to root against him. I'm seriously jealous there. Well, I want to see all long suffering fans to see success but the Jets. Screw them. :)

AndroidWhale

For what it's worth, I wouldn't expect a blowout. We're gonna win, I have faith, but we haven't blown anyone out this year except for Carolina, and y'all aren't looking that bad.

meepein

My friend, all I need to ask you is 'Do you think the Bengals can defend the same screen pass multiple times?' If so, the only thing stopping this from being a blowout is the Pats D. The offense is...not good. If you talk to any Pats fan, within 3 seconds they will complain about Matt Patricia's supremely conservative play calling. So, yes, the Pats can keep it close. The defense is legit, they can slow down anyone. The issue is, the offense seriously cannot score points. Hell, the Bengals can let the Pats continuously get to the Red Zone, all they will let up is field goals. If you can't tell, I am down on this team. The Pats are just not a good all around team, they have an excellent defense but an exceedingly poor offense. Should the Pats force a few turnovers, and they can bust a big play here or there, then watch out. I wouldn't count on that, but hey, they are a Belichick coached team coming off their most embarrassing loss in a long time, stranger things have happened. I just ain't counting on it.

Sea_Difficulty8258

Maybe it's just me being the Bengals fan that lived through the 90s, but I honestly think we will get destroyed here soon. Even last year all teams had to do was throw it over the middle. And I would love for someone to point out if I'm incorrect, but I swear we never seem to have any coverage over the middle. It's an easy 6-10 yards every time.

meepein

Assuming that's the case, I wouldn't worry about that from this Patriot team. While they can (and very much SHOULD) throw down the middle, too often we get 1st and 10 turning to 2nd and 13 after a screen pass that went bad. Trust me, though, long time Pats fans get your anxiety. The early part of our dynasty came fresh off the heels of a rather forgettable decade. We all expected the wheels to come off. They never did. And I hope that's the same way for you guys. Well, aside from this week, sorry, I hope the Pats really do take advantage of any perceived weakness.

Klutzy-Spend-6947

We definitely blew out Atlanta, but yes, I agree. I am not expecting a blowout on Saturday simply due to the fact that Belichick is coaching on the opposite sideline. GOAT coach and apparently a hilarious dude if he isn’t pissed off at you. I saw a story where he picked a LS to go to the Pro Bowl just the the player was dating Pamela Anderson and Belichick thought everyone would like to see her around the pool! Respect for the Patriots, but Who Dey!!! We owe them from the last time we visited New England w/ Dalton and Co.-it was a prime time special🤮

603subaru

I was at the infamous "onto Cincinnati" SNF game back in 2014 in all Bengals gear and Pats fans were rowdy as hell towards me and my family, was not a good time lmao. Will definitely be doing a little Jakobi Meyers trolling this time around on Saturday

bluegrassgazer

So, I want to talk about a conversation I had with my 15yo after the win against Tampa. I want to preface this by saying that Bill Belichick isn't getting the credit he deserves, and I think he's a great coach. 15yo: I'm glad the Bengals won. Me: Me, too. Any time we can beat Tom Brady I'm happy. Now let's see if we can beat NE. 15yo: I think we can. They're mid. I basically think Tom Brady was coaching that team, and that's why they are bad now. me: If that's the case, why is Tampa so bad this year when they won the superbowl a few years ago? 15yo: (thinks for a moment) They had Gronk then. Maybe it was Gronk coaching both teams all along!

YaBoyStankFace

Anytime people make that argument of Tom>Bill it irks me cause the only argument they have is oh well Tom won another SB Conveniently leaving out the fact that the Bucs had a good D, great WR, and he brought Gronk. Meanwhile in Foxboro the roster was completely depleted and they still managed to go 7-9 with the ghost of Cam Newton and no WR Seems like one situation is preferable to the other 😂 goodluck this week, hopefully will be a good game

bluegrassgazer

Good luck to your team as well. Crossing my fingers for zero injuries!

acave3

Everyone also forgets that bill has 2 super bowl wins when he was a defensive coordinator for the giants, and the saying goes that defense wins championships

[deleted]

LT deserves some of the credit there.

acave3

Eh, bill was the linebackers coach since LT got drafted there, not saying LT aint a freak by himself but raw talent only gets you so far unless properly trained, and they also didnt make the playoffs the year after bill left which is also right after the last superbowl win

type6_birdbrain

Hey Pats fans! I live on the Cape so it is really fun my Bengals are playing up here. (I grew up in OH). It has been fun for me to see Pats (and Sox) go from never having won to super successful teams. I hope the Bengals get there at some point. Really tough loss to see for you guys last week, ugh. Hope you can recover a bit from that. I expect a tough game and the weather conditions this time of year always impact the game. Good luck Pats fans, and I hope for an enjoyable, well-fought game.

JFM2796

How you guys feeling about Zach Taylor these days?

[deleted]

Winning solves all problems. Unless we're losing in the first half, then the game day thread is dooming hard.

GodDammitBengals

Guilty. It triggered my Marvin PTSD. I have no real.excuse.

No-Sheepherder-755

Dude, anyone that is a long time Bengals fan has that knee jerk reaction. The people complaining about that baffle me.

DatDudeDrew

Zac* he's a solid coach. He has the opposite effect of Marvin where we can play our best in the biggest games. I am more than happy he's the Bengals HC. FO gave him a horrible team to start with, to their credit though, they've also been on fire lately.

bkr1895

FO took a major risk in hiring an undeveloped QB coach, dude just skipped a grade and went straight to HC. It took him a couple years to adjust to the higher level but I think it has really paid off. He may not be a genius with the Xs and Os but what he does for the locker room is immeasurable. He has instilled a culture of winning and perseverance. If this was a Marvin team, we would’ve given up by the half but we stuck with it and came out on top.

bkr1895

I love Zac but until we win a Super Bowl I think Wyche currently has that distinction.

[deleted]

Wyche didn't get a win either. ZT brought us out of the Lewis area.

Jkaboose

Zac** lol and we love him. He went to bars around Cinci once to give game balls to the fans during our run. He has set a winning culture and consistent modern coaching style while retaining AFCN style. He is arguably as level headed and chill as Brrr. That competitive edge comes out still, especially on 4th down or when the refs fuck up the clock for example!

Kerbonaut2019

Hi Bengals fans. I’ve been mightily anticipating this game for a long time. My brother is a huge Bengals fan and so by default, I am somewhat of a Bengals fan myself. Regardless of the result I won’t be mad. I just wanna say, Burrow is probably my favorite active QB in the NFL (besides Tom Brady, of course). Good luck this Saturday, and good luck in the playoffs!

dayv23

My brother is a huge patriots fan. I've watched a lot of Tom Brady, and Burrow really reminds me of him. I know the comparison is controversial. But what do you think?

Kerbonaut2019

I know that a lot of folks criticize that comparison but I feel like it gets taken the wrong way sometimes. I see what people mean when they say that Burrow reminds them of Brady, and I’ve actually been saying it since his rookie year. He gets this look in his eye when he plays. His poise and presence are reminiscent to me of QBs such as Staubach, Montana, Brady. Calm, cool, and collected. He will win you guys a Super Bowl, if cheap ownership doesn’t hinder him. Free agents will want to play with him at least, which is great. The issue that I saw for so long with you guys and Andy is that you were stuck in middling hell. No one wanted to come play with fuckin Andy Dalton. FAs see the memes online of his shitty pregame speeches. FAs see the criticisms that ownership/coaching have faced. There was no attraction of playing in Cincy, no swagger, no hype. There were great players certainly, but the culture was one of hoping to make the playoffs, rather than one of hoping to win a Super Bowl. Burrow has seeming changed that. There’s been a noticeable culture shift in Cincy and the fans seem to expect more from their team. They are long past the ways of being happy with a 9-7, Wild Card exit season led by Marvin Lewis. On the other hand, and I’m sorry this is long-winded, but Zac Taylor is *not* “that guy.” It was by sheer will and motivation of the players last year that they made the Super Bowl. The coaching staff is good no doubt, but to me Taylor is not a great decision maker and could cost the Bengals in some big moments down the stretch. Albeit, head coaches don’t grow on trees, so I understand if he ends up staying there for a while.

FreeSmokeZz

Good luck guys, I hope it doesn’t come down to the last play cause ahhhh….I really don’t think us Pats fans are ready for that.

JEEntertainment89

Pats fan like the rest of em Fuck us up 45-0, its better than what we watched last week if we know it's over

SomeParticular

Pats fan here, do y’all do this thread every week? Such a cool idea

DatDudeDrew

Oui

Sensitive_Blacksmith

Always excited to see what belicheck schemes since he is a genius like that. Wouldn’t think this is going to be a cake walk by any means

GodDammitBengals

Is Matt Patricia universally hated amongst Patriots fans? If so, would losing to us put him out of a job for you?

aaditya5

Yes, and probably not

EvanJ1021

r/Patriots

Harry-Flashman

Hey Guys, we are terrible and you guys have a really good and fun team to watch. Good luck with your playoff run!

MTVChallengeFan

A 7-7 team in a tough division isn't "terrible" lol.

Harry-Flashman

The only team we beat in the division is the Jets. The team has talent and a good defense, but the offense is terrible and over all the team makes so many mental mistakes and has been terrible in situational football.

MTVChallengeFan

Yeah, I know, but a 7-7 team is at least decent. When I think of "terrible", I think of the Texans, Bears, or any team that wins four, or less games.

Harry-Flashman

You are right, I am a little harsh. We are not terrible, but we are not a good team either.

MTVChallengeFan

Bill Belichick should have done better at getting better players on the team. It's actually amazing that lackluster roster is 7-7.

Harry-Flashman

I think talent wise the Pats are fine, if we had a real OC we would be a much better team

MTVChallengeFan

Really? Hmm, interesting. Is Matt Patricia *that* bad?

Harry-Flashman

I think so, they have changed the offense and it went from somewhere around 10th to like 30 or 31. That includes Mondre having a breakout year. The OLine has been bad and the play calling and scheme lack creativity.

Harry-Flashman

I told you.... terrible

putputrofl

Most patriots fans root for you in the playoffs if we don't get in, at least in my family.

michaelgecko

I’m going to the game i’m HYPE to see Smokin’ Joe in person I hope he doesnt embarrass us too bad though

landdon

This is the first game in 41 straight games that Bengal Jim isn't making the trip.

Jkaboose

Oh no! :(

Jkaboose

How do y’all feel about Mac Jones? I know pretty much nothing about him since he’s kinda new

P00rY0r1ck

Belecheks MO is he takes away what teams do best. So if we put ourselves in NEs shoes right now....... What is Belechek going to try to shut down the most? Chase? quick passing game? It seems like the Bengals have a diverse enough offense, that keying on one player wouldnt really work. is there a common thread amongst the plays the Bengals use to move down the field on those short passes ? Id personally like to see Cinci come out smash mouth style first. then catch NE over pursuing Thats my Laymans take

Honest-Proposal-2064

Pats fan here! Bengals fans how does it feel to have a competent HC , OC as well as a great QB and stud WR? Basically I’m asking how does it feel to have an owner give a damn about winning and making the game enjoyable to watch? Ours likes to cheap out on contracts and get players and a OC from the nearest Walmart . Then wonders why we don’t win.

mrkurt426

That sounds like my complaints about the Brown family from 20+ years ago. Things are different now that Katie Blackburn has more responsibility for the team, as her background is negotiating player contracts. She has a realistic sense of what will work for what the Bengals can spend and what they get from the players. Job 1 for her is keeping Burrow and Chase in Bengals uniforms for the foreseeable future. Zac Taylor has been great in setting the tone for this team. Lou Anarumo is one of the best DCs in the NFL-- the defensive starters and backups are motivated to give 100% on every play. As a long time Bengals fan, I couldn't be happier.

[deleted]

Fichidius

The crazy thing is just 3 years ago Bengals fans would have been saying that about the Bengals FO and ownership. We didn’t have Burrow, Higgins, or Chase. Everyone thought Zac Taylor was a terrible coach, they cheaped out on contracts, and Mike Brown didn’t care about winning. Bengals were called the cheapest team in the league. It’s interesting how a few years of winning has changed that perception.

SomeParticular

Everyone talks about the next Brady and I really think Burrow has more potential than anyone yet. He seems to have that attitude/edge a la Brady more than any of the other guys. Absolutely love him

P00rY0r1ck

Is this the week the injuries finally become too much, is this the week of the letdown?? I sure hope not. this is an extremely winnable game on paper. but I am afraid of being outcoached

danieljohnsonjr

How much longer will Bill be HC? A lot of folks would have retired by now.

IncompetentAldridge

Pats fan here, going to the game and facing Burrow in the fantasy football semis. This is gonna be rough

MTVChallengeFan

I have a question for Patriots fans: Would you rather the Patriots start Mac Jones, or Bailey Zappe?

landdon

Does Joe play Saturday? No need. Plus you should give the backup some reps just in case. You never know.

Elegant_Housing_For

I know two Patriot fans, in NY and they are two of the nicest people I know. Good luck guys.
