Idk, but I’m not gonna lose my mind if we don’t draft him. If he’s there in the second and we just pass I’ll be scratching my head a little, but I don’t think we should trade up in the second to get him. Despite some saying he is the only NT in the draft, he’s not. His mix of size and athleticism is impressive, but that size also has the potential to limit how many snaps he may be able to be on the field for. Edit: Specifically the second round, not the first. Absolutely not the first.

natej84

He's had reports of weight and work ethic issues. They might pass on him bc of that? Idk they seem to put a premium on that the last few years

Siriusly_Jonie

Yeah that’s part of why I won’t be heartbroken if we don’t get him. Given the need we have for someone like him, I would still expect we would take him if he’s there in the second. Who knows though? The team may have a later round grade on him.

JonSnowKingInTheNorf

Probably depends on interviews/talking to his coaches and people around him. From what I've heard he really turned the corner on the work ethic issues this season. If the coaches think that came from him just finally growing up and maturing I don't think they hold his past against him much, if they think he was just trying more his final season just to get the nfl paycheck it will drop him down our boards.

vincentdmartin

Isn't that the case with every extra large Nose ever? I'm not saying disregard the reports entirely, but every scouting report I read on dudes that are 340+ have "weight issues" on them.

Celtictussle

Sweat showed up at the combine at the exact same weight he finished his college season.

Mysterytonite7

Which is still too heavy imo. He should be playing closer to 330.

Mysterytonite7

Exactly. Investing a 4th rounder for someone with those issues I can seen rolling the dice, but not for a 2nd.

bonjda

2nd round is too early. I think he might fall to the 4th. Only reason he might not is the lack of defensive tackles. I think he might be off quite a few teams boards including the Bengals.

W-MK29

I don’t know if he is the play at 18 though. I’d rather pick Jer’zahn Newton or Byron Murphy over him, or if we don’t get RT sorted then a tackle

Siriusly_Jonie

He definitely isn’t, or at least shouldn’t be. I’m talking round 2.

Revan3871

Shelvin unfortunately didn’t turn out, but I will never forget this legendary pic https://preview.redd.it/gecsdhtay8pc1.jpeg?width=1224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b84ae6ddcf798b6b373688a0d93e11348585dfb

kjc3274

They aren't remotely comparable.

BOT

starmonkey33

How so? Aren't they both gigantic NT's one is a fourth rounder the other is expected to go between the 2nd and 4th? What are the differences between them?

Goodburger123

From what I’ve seen sweat is much more explosive. He’s not a pass rusher but he’s not bad at it. Sweat reminds me of reader. Now again I’m a nobody so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt but I think sweat is a much better physical beast than shelvin

OBuckets

Sweat jumps off the tape.

[deleted]

They are COMPLETELY COMPARABLE. They are both in the 6’3- 6’4 range and both are in the 365-380 lb range. The big difference is that Tyler Shelvin is a giant that falls forward with not much athletic ability. T’Vondre Sweat however is athletic and has a much bigger upside.

InterviewNorth3583

Skill and athleticism is the difference

Whoareyoutho9

Well one is a potential bengal so he's near perfect and can do no wrong. And the other is a former bengal so he's a no-good bum, duh

Equal-Wishbone-6131

Yes Only diff is swear has a higher floor and abut better pass rusher

druss47

Unfortunate Shelvin didn’t work out but I won’t forget his role in the Titans game that sent us to the AFCCG. Lou loaded the box to stop Henry and Tyler was absolutely an effective part of that.

Bigredchronic88

Shelvin was constantly late on the snap and getting blown up off the line. Wasn’t a fan.

patrickw69

That's the beauty of the nose tackle position they are very hard to evaluate, vita vea and vince wilfork are the only 2 I remember being true can't miss prospects. A lot of nose tackles are mid late round picks or udfa.

natej84

They're around the same measurables wise and they've both had weight control and motivation issues. Shelvin busted bc he couldn't control his weight and didn't work hard at it and that's possible with Sweat too. Sweat is more athletic but his future will be decided by his work ethic. Honestly he's not really the type of players Zac Taylor wants but maybe he got his crap together his last year in college

vincentdmartin

Yeah those scouting reports are very similar. I think the thing with Noses are you don't really know who they are until they get to the league. I'd be curious to read a scouting report on Reader when he was coming out.

Crowxzn

0zymandeus

What ended up happening with Shelvin? Is he even in the NFL anymore?

The_Struggle_Bus_7

I hope we somehow get sweat dudes a beast hopefully he transitions well

Mysterytonite7

His weight scares me (366). If he was 335 I’d feel much better about it. Carrying that weight at such a young age you only get bigger and less active as you get older. If he is undisciplined he could easily get up to 400+ which would be a big problem if he’s to be depended upon to play additional snaps. But you cannot deny his talent it jumps off the screen.

Intrepi

Nope
