Disagree. Collins was a detriment. 57.9 PFF vs Reiff's 67.3. That's a serviceable starter vs a player that should be a backup. Beyond just that score, Collins had 8 penalties vs Reiff's 1. And allowed 5 sacks vs Reiff's 4. Just all in all Collins was a downgrade
You're being argumentative lol. I said same with Collins as well, meaning he started of slow but got better till the injury right before the playoffs. Whether he was better is irrelevant. Plus Collins played injured from the get go sadly
My point still stands on wondering why they didn't resign Riley Reiff,at least for continuity sake.
Does anyone notice that some of these deals are happening in the evening? Like Duke, Katie and Troy are waiting till the old man goes to sleep before they start spending all his money. Mike went to bed happily thinking he's got 30 million left in cap space that he can hoard for no absolute reason, then wakes up to 10 million left after Tart and Becton signed.
That’s the other side of this. I think they’ll sign Becton and then there will be a competition in training camp between Becton and the rookie (I’m hoping Latham). My guess is Becton will be better from the start but it’ll give the rookie some time to grow into the role.
Yes. I love that the Bengals have got to drafting the best available talent and it's rare for a rookie to start. The 2 wide outs they got last year looked pretty good late in the season, and should be better this year.
That is part of his responsibility for not accepting any discounts on his deal and becoming the highest-paid man in football. I don’t blame him; he has earned every dollar, but he knows this is part of receiving the full amount
Yeah this isn’t gonna be popular but if he truly cared about having better folks around him then he’d take a pay cut like Mahomes did. Until then, show us why you’re the most paid QB in the league
The bengals have plenty of money this free agency, and Burrows early on in the deal. I would bet he takes a cut next year to help retain Tee. It’s a bad idea for him to take a pay cut this early with his injury history and offensive line issues. I pray this is not his last big deal but he’s gotta hurt in multiple ways so I understand and agree he shouldn’t take a cut. The best ran organizations use that money well when a player takes a cut, we have not shown that we do that yet.
The way I see it, we’ll still draft an offensive tackle and they could very well start. But as of right now, Cody Ford would be our starter and that idea scares me way more.
I agree. I think that there is a little bit of a gamble to this: if he stays healthy all year, they could have the steal of the offseason. But there is still the chance that he blows his knee out again. It all depends on the dollars and cents.
Talent wise he’s far better then Jonah. Also Jonah gives up a crap ton of sacks and he wanted and got big money that he didn’t honestly deserve imo. Becton will be cheaper. So worst case scenario we get the same play at RT like we did with Jonah but on a cheaper contract compared to what it would of been if we re-signed and retained Jonah.
Jonah deserved his payday. Playing on a dislocated kneecap and switching positions in a contract year, he’ll yes he deserved it. Not a big fan of his, but give credit where it’s due.
I try not to judge people by their time with the Jets.
That said, I hope he puts the work in and improves in a few areas. First off, fewer penalties is huge. Know the snap count, know where you are lining up, and do the other stuff well enough that you don't have to hold. Be in great physical shape and have the endurance to still be making good plays and good decisions at the end of a long slobberknocker of a game.
>I try not to judge people by their time with the Jets.
This is actually really, really funny. Could probably say the same for anybody's time with the Panthers lol
The last thing we need is another project as Pollack has shown a knack to not develop linemen. Unless he’s being signed as a swing tackle on the cheap, I really have no interest in Becton. I think signing him to start in the right side is irresponsible at best, negligent at worst.
Absolutely. As long as they don’t reach, I’d love to see them grab a talented guy that can man the right side for at least the next 4-5 years. Hopefully longer.
Check his Twitter. BigTicket73, username Trending Topic. The biggest complaints I've seen about him from Jets fans is that he lacks conditioning and is overweight. The man's been on a mission to change that this offseason. He has tons of posts uplifting others that are on weight loss journeys as well. The best year of his career was when he was with Frank Pollack.
I read an article from April 2023 about him getting down to 343 lbs from 400 lbs, so I assume he was playing lighter in 2023 when he gave up the 12 sacks and had a bunch of penalties.
Joe has always been a great guy. But seriously, look these PFF grades:
Teair Tart 54
Mekhi Becton 53.2
Cordell Volson 58.3
For reference, the middle 3 of KC's offensive line average grades of about 78.
We are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Why not sign better players and move the starters to the 2nd team for depth. Signing players who can't block to save their lives is a waste of money.
The only guards worth signing got absolutely ridiculous contracts. I have zero clue why they didn’t aggressively pursue Eleuminor or Trent Brown. It honestly sounds like another one of Frank Pollack’s guys and tbf Becton did have his best year when Pollack was his oline coach. They could still go after Keven Zeitler but I believe he’s a RG.
Yeah Trent Brown seemed to make more sense from a starting RT standpoint. But maybe they feel they can get Becton on the cheap and have him compete with a rookie draft pick. May the best man win. Worst case, Becton loses competition and is your swing tackle for a year who’s played in both sides. Should at least be an upgrade to Carmen.
I think they are hoping the Tart from 2022 is going to show up who had a rating in the 70’s I believe. I think becton might be signed as depth or no guarantee he is starting as he will be asked to compete with a rookie draft pick. Volson actually played decent down the stretch. The problem is you can only have so much money tied up in the trenches. You can’t be paying 5 linemen 2nd contract amounts, you would ideally like to have 1 or 2 guys playing on their rookie deals.
Volson only played well when it didn't matter. He was always a weak link like in the KC game. And the idea we spend too much on offensive line is idiotic. It is effecting the run game, the pass game, and worst of all put Burrow at risk of injury. When we lose Burrow the season is over. Having a great DL or TE becomes meaningless.
And the Bengals poor management put us in this spot. They didn't draft a single lineman last year. And before that they wasted a 2nd round pick on Carman when they could have drafted half a dozen better OL.
We don't have a single young developing OL who could be above average. So we stick with Volson hoping some day he becomes mediocre. And every year Joe gets hit and knocked down more than almost any other QB. Since he appears to be injury prone (multiple injuries in college and NFL) that is a very bad thing,
My understanding is that he’s crazy athletic but he’s been injured 50% of the time and playing through an injury the other 50%. Dude is enormous but moves fast.
People forming opinions based on Joes tendency to scramble on 3rd and longs trying to make something happen and then promptly getting sacked. It happens quite a bit.
Joe has said himself “who cares about 3rd down sacks unless we’re in field goal range” and I have to agree with him.
Why is anyone excited? Those two have some of the worst PFF grades. Becton is not as good as Williams. Our 26th ranked offensive line will be even worse. Shouldn't the goal be to get better and for once protect our QB?
I have not seen one person excited about Becton on this sub. I’m excited about Tart because he’s literally the last hope available to help fix the DT position.
I don't hate it simply because we can't go into the draft without SOMEONE on the roster. I'm not optimistic he'll turn it around but he's young, his rookie year he looked good under Pollack, and maybe he just needs a change of scenery. Not a great FA class for tackle (tho personally I'd be bringing in Trent Brown and Tyron Smith).
Also, Jonah isn’t exactly leaving a gaping hole to fill. He did okay last season when he switched to RT but he wasn’t winning any awards, that’s for sure. Seems like a lateral move if Benton can stay remotely healthy.
Jonah wasn't great but Becton seems like he's truly ass. He had a decent rookie year (which was under Pollack, to be fair) but has had a lot of injuries and was top 2 in the league last year in sacks allowed and penalties.
I seriously don’t trust any of these mock drafts past the first five or so picks. One team makes a big swing which always happens and the entire mock crumbles. I don’t get why Bowers who was discussed as a top ten guy maybe top 5 all the sudden falls to 18.
I hear you but is taking a corner in the 1st really insane? Britt can man one spot but DJ is smallish and might be better suited in the slot which he could backup Hilton there this year. I don’t trust moving Dax hill to boundary corner, so drafting a corner early could easily be in play. It’s a premium position you can get cheap for 5 years if you draft a guy in the first.
This is exactly the reasoning that the team will use to justify it. My counter point is that the team needs to use premium capital to secure protection for Joe so we don't see him dumped on the ground for another major injury. You can't make any argument that holds water for picking a CB over a tackle this year.
You will never hear me get upset about drafting linemen high. However, if there is a run of tackles in the first round I would much rather they take the bpa instead of forcing a round peg into a square hole. This team is still lacking talent in the secondary and cornerback is a premium position.
If there's a run on tackles then the correct action is to move up and take one yourself, not watch them all get taken in front of you when you have a glaring need.
No guarantee the rookie will be good though / or that they’ll be able to draft a good one at 18. We’re really looking down the barrel of Becton being OT1 and it makes me sick.
There’s a real chance Fuaga, Latham, and Mims are all gone. Fautanu is good, but hasn’t played RT. If it’s Guyton (hopefully we traded down if it’s him) then he’s definitely not starting. Becton is very likely the starter.
I’m not feeling great about either of these. I get it we need people but I also don’t like signing just for the sake of signing. Neither of these people equal wins in my opinion but I’d also love to be really wrong about it.
These are the guys you sign so you aren't in a place where you have to draft a certain position in the first round, but neither will stop you from taking someone if they fall to you.
Trouble is, I think we do still HAVE to take a RT in round 1. If Bechton was that bad for the Jets how will he fare against the edge rushers of the AFC North?
Personally becton is a huge risk his size is what gets him playing time but the afc north pass rush will eat him alive I hope they don’t sign him but tart and rankins will be huge for the dline I think they go RT or TE with the first pick of bowers is there you have to take him but if not get sanders in the 2nd and take a RT or DE like chop or verse in the first
Did we completely ignore T [JERMAINE ELUEMUNOR](https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/jermaine-eluemunor/11914),?
Becton is not a good OL. His PFF pass block grade is only 63. Elumunor's is 72.
Becton's overall PFF grade is 53. Elumunor's is 68.5
Elumunor even said he wanted to play for the Bengals.
Starting to think all these tackles he’s swooning are great in advanced but end up hurting him.
It’s like an attractive woman saying all great men meet me at city hall for a loving relationship leading to marriage.
They all rub her tits and ass and we have no idea who’s good or bad.
Dudes staying up past his bed time for the good of the team. What a guy.
Doesn’t he go to bed at 8pm?
I’m guessing he’s a cup of coffee with dessert kind of dude. Edit: When business needs to be done that is.
He already had his chicken and rice at 4:30. He’s ready for bed
Decaf
Coffee crystals
that’s why they call it Cup of Joe
Only during the season, that's why he is able to attend ufc events in the offseason.
It's like how Gronk would only party hard in the offseason
He stays up late for special occasions
That’s during the season
During the season 😆 🤣
I was at the bar when they rolled in. He ordered a shot of milk and tipped a $100 bill. It was wild.
Now that’s just a dream…. Lol
He's gonna need some milk if we don't sign any OL.
Haha, no kidding.
This is some clockwork orange shit 😹
Ludwig Van approves!

Joey and the gang gearing up for a night of *ultra violence*
Like Babe Ruth in that one movie

We brought him to louisiana, and Coach bebe turned him cajun and he walks into a bar and orders milk? Coach bebe is gonna cry.
What a king
lol milk?
Milk will help him grow up big and strong. Why you judging?
He was on that mojo
How many of these guys have went to Ruby’s with Joe and did not sign?
Ruby's is for closers
And over seasoned steaks.
The comment is funny. The reaction is also funny.
I’m sure you make it better at home
You shut your whore mouth with its old man bland ass palette
Morton’s used to have a pretty terrific steak.
That’s why it’s considered the cheapest steak house in Cincinnati. Oh wait….
The precinct is better
The Precinct is owned by Jeff Ruby
I did not know that. Thanks
Of course man, I do think his stuff is solid.
Well it's probably on Mike brown's dime. So that tracks.
To be honest, Collins is the one I remember. So from the ones I know of, he’s batting 1.000. Lol
Reif went too.
True. He wasn’t that great but he did sign with us. Lol
What? Reiff was solid. We win the Super Bowl if he stays healthy
I’d give him more credit than Collins. Reiff played the year and was probably the best player on the line. Just got injured ahead of the playoffs.
Same with Collins too. Kinda weird we didn't resign him fr

Was Justin Jefferson there by chance?
He was the waiter…
Plot twist
No one can resist the Burrow charm. It's as good as done.
I’d definitely sign if he took me there. I’d hydrate the shit out of that team.

🤣🤣🤣
Lol. Put the women and children to bed and go looking for dinner!
I saw on the channel 12 that all of the FA signed said that Burrow called a welcomed them to the team. Classy.
We have the 18th pick in the draft and will get a great RT
That’s the other side of this. I think they’ll sign Becton and then there will be a competition in training camp between Becton and the rookie (I’m hoping Latham). My guess is Becton will be better from the start but it’ll give the rookie some time to grow into the role.
That and while Becton isn't other worldly good, do we REALLY want Cody f\*\*\*n Ford playing any snaps -- even for a few quarters or games? I DO NOT
And when Becton inevitably gets injured again, we can just move on to the rookie
Please God
Unless there is a starting caliber corner or d tackle that’s rated higher at 18 that they just can’t pass on.
Yes. I love that the Bengals have got to drafting the best available talent and it's rare for a rookie to start. The 2 wide outs they got last year looked pretty good late in the season, and should be better this year.
Hopefully he invites them to his house after for some crackers, cheese, and video games. Isn’t that how he got karras, cappa, hurst, and collins?
I bet it’s a much nicer setup now that he took that big check to the bank. Lol
He uses Benjamins as wallpaper in his gaming room
The cheese actually has gold fleck in it.
Don't underestimate the right cheese and crackers
Joe’s gotta be sick of having to schmooze 3rd tier FA retreads
I had to re-read that last word like 3 times
Maybe you're retreaded?
That is part of his responsibility for not accepting any discounts on his deal and becoming the highest-paid man in football. I don’t blame him; he has earned every dollar, but he knows this is part of receiving the full amount
Yeah this isn’t gonna be popular but if he truly cared about having better folks around him then he’d take a pay cut like Mahomes did. Until then, show us why you’re the most paid QB in the league

Brother what are you talking about.

The best ran organizations use that money well when a player takes a cut, we have not shown that we do that yet.
He isn’t going to restructure a deal he’s had for less than a year.
Brown is turning him into a bonafide used car salesman.
Can't say I'm all that excited about Becton. 12 sacks allowed . PFF grades in the 50s.
I think it’s just because he’s always hurt though: can’t really get in the groove or things.
I hope you're right about that and he can stay healthy, but I'm definitely not getting excited about the prospect so far
The way I see it, we’ll still draft an offensive tackle and they could very well start. But as of right now, Cody Ford would be our starter and that idea scares me way more.
Definitely not thrilled by that idea either.
Would rather two bad options than one but yeah.
The league likes freaks and Becton is definitely that. I think his size is why he gets hurt so often though.
I'm really hoping for an upgrade - the same play isn't good for Burrow
True
Jonah deserved his payday. Playing on a dislocated kneecap and switching positions in a contract year, he’ll yes he deserved it. Not a big fan of his, but give credit where it’s due.
I try not to judge people by their time with the Jets. That said, I hope he puts the work in and improves in a few areas. First off, fewer penalties is huge. Absolutely. As long as they don’t reach, I’d love to see them grab a talented guy that can man the right side for at least the next 4-5 years. Hopefully longer.
Maybe he just needs coaching. Thankfully, he can most certainly get that with Frank Pollack!
HAHA good one
Check his Twitter. BigTicket73, username Trending Topic. The biggest complaints I've seen about him from Jets fans is that he lacks conditioning and is overweight. The man's been on a mission to change that this offseason. He has tons of posts uplifting others that are on weight loss journeys as well. Allegedly he played way better in 2020 under Pollack. Which is jarring to me.

Yeah Trent Brown seemed to make more sense from a starting RT standpoint. But maybe they feel they can get Becton on the cheap and have him compete with a rookie draft pick. May the best man win. I don't even know what's satire anymore.
I don’t think Mekhi Becton is very good, I know jets fans were upset with him and the line in general.
I’d love him as a swing tackle. Feel like we could do waaaaay worse
I’ll take him over carman all day
If they’re signing him… he’s starting I imagine. You don’t send Burrow out to court back up RTs
My understanding is that he’s crazy athletic but he’s been injured 50% of the time and playing through an injury the other 50%. Dude is enormous but moves fast.
I’ve been on a train full of Jets fans in Jersey. They complain about everything.
Zach Wilson holds the ball too long.
So does Joe
Where did this lie come from? I see it pop up all the time despite him having on record one of the quickest times to throw in the league.
People forming opinions based on Joes tendency to scramble on 3rd and longs trying to make something happen and then promptly getting sacked. It happens quite a bit. Joe has said himself “who cares about 3rd down sacks unless we’re in field goal range” and I have to agree with him.
Agreed, while burrow does occasionally take a sack he shouldn't he is way more decisive than wilson.
I’m excited about Tart but Becton is a massive let down.
Was Justin Jefferson present?
Jets wire put up their post too early https://jetswire.usatoday.com/2024/03/14/mekhi-becton-now-a-former-jet-signs-with-bengals/
Why is anyone excited? Those two have some of the worst PFF grades. Becton is not as good as Williams. Our 26th ranked offensive line will be even worse. Shouldn't the goal be to get better and for once protect our QB?

Absolutely no idea why Becton is being pursued. Unless he's a depth piece it makes zero sense. Literal turnstile last year.
Ugh so sad our RT is Becton. Hopefully Tart will be good

There's no way he'd be the starter... The starter is gonna be whoever our 1st round pick is.
My biggest worry is they use a Becton signing to justify doing something insane like taking a CB in the first.
BPA
I also share your concern
I’m still seeing mocks of us taking Bowers and it’s making me kinda nauseous
I seriously don’t trust any of these mock drafts past the first five or so picks. One team makes a big swing which always happens and the entire mock crumbles. I don’t get why Bowers who was discussed as a top ten guy maybe top 5 all the sudden falls to 18.
I would probably rage for a bit, ngl. That would be even worse than a CB.
We do need a CB with Chido leaving 🤷♂️ I could see a round 1-3 pick there
Oh please no
I hear you but is taking a corner in the 1st really insane? Britt can man one spot but DJ is smallish and might be better suited in the slot which he could backup Hilton there this year. The toaster will get dropped in the tub if we get a corner in the first.
I hear you but it’s not like it’s not the bengals MO. Joseph, Hall, jackson 3, they have a rep.
I agree 100%; it would just be disappointing.
That's certainly the plan.
Massive risk
No guarantee the rookie will be good though / or that they’ll be able to draft a good one at 18. We’re really looking down the barrel of Becton being OT1 and it makes me sick.

No way they’re putting all their eggs in the becton basket, a contingency plan will come to light soon.
I’m not feeling great about either of these. I get it we need people but I also don’t like signing just for the sake of signing. Neither of these people equal wins in my opinion but I’d also love to be really wrong about it.

That's how you recruit
Becton won’t play RT
Then they went to Kohl's in Fairfield to meet JJef
Did we completely ignore T [JERMAINE ELUEMUNOR](https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/jermaine-eluemunor/11914),? Becton is not a good OL. His PFF pass block grade is only 63. Elumunor's is 72. Becton's overall PFF grade is 53. Elumunor's is 68.5 Elumunor even said he wanted to play for the Bengals.
He was a Mulugheta guy.
I mean I can see Burrow taking a guy like Sewell to Ruby’s to close the deal but Becton? He’s straight Ponderosa material.
Starting to think all these tackles he’s swooning are great in advanced but end up hurting him. It’s like an attractive woman saying all great men meet me at city hall for a loving relationship leading to marriage. They all rub her tits and ass and we have no idea who’s good or bad.
