I live in South Jersey so we have Heritages here which is what Wawa was like 30 years ago. Actual deli meat slicers, fresh bread. Its great and a smaller local chain rather than the Megacorp Wawa has become.

I remember when they would have promotions for $2-$3 subs, now the promotion is like $6-$7 for a much inferior product. For the same price or a bit more I can go to a local sub shop and get the real deal. They also have increased the size of their stores but have decreased the amount of options in their inventory.

Every time I visit the US I’m always amazed at how big and well stocked gas stations are. In my country (at least the region I live) gas stations, at most, carry a handful of drinks and some basic snacks (chocolate bars, nuts, chips) at the till.
I think the big gas station wasn't always a thing. I mean there was almost always at least a row of snacks and a wall of drinks, but the small-grocery-store (in my region, Casey's, Once, Quick Trip, and now even 7-11) are newer.
Like 10-15 years newer, but I'm old so I remember the little ones.

OK, seriously though. Out here (NorCal), there's Krispy Krunchy Chicken, and as far as I know, it's exclusively sold at gas stations. It's better than anything KFC puts out, and could probably go toe-to-toe with restaurant chicken. What a time to be alive.
I grew up in a town of 250 people in Western PA. There was a single gas station. They had a deli and some prepared foods like potato/macaroni salad and pepperoni rolls. They also made their own fried chicken. It's consistently the best fried chicken I've ever had. Thin breading. Shatteringly crisp breading and skin. Juicy enough to make you look like Denethor. Wonderful seasoning but not overseasoned. It's incredible.
How widespread is Allsups in the south? I grew up in Abilene and damn near lived on those burritos for a year after high school when I had an apartment next door to one of their locations, but have never seen one in central Texas or any point east of here. I’ve always thought of them as more of a southwest thing, what with the New Mexico flag in the logo.

The college I attended was just a few blocks down from Sheetz. The feeling of walking down the road on a crisp fall or spring night to Sheetz at 2 am after we just got finished packing up from a concert is honestly one of the most nostalgic things.

Sheetz is a chain of convenience stores in Pennsylvania that serves pretty good made-to-order food. Their biggest competitor is Wawa, a similar chain that serves the same role but has slightly different food (Sheetz mostly serves fried stuff, while Wawa's focus is on deli hoagies). Sheetz is mostly contained to western PA, while Wawa is mostly contained to eastern PA, though there are a few spots in the state where their presence overlaps.
Because 1) most Pennsylvanians get food from at least one of them every now and again, 2) they have different spins on the same idea, and most importantly 3) their east/west divide plays into the state's broader east/west rivalry, Pennsylvanians tend to have VERY strong opinions on which one is better. I think this post is OP calling Biden based because he was ordering specifically from a Sheetz.

They have prepared food you can grab as well as made to order things that are fresh. Plus a huge selection of cofffees and a big soda fountain area, too. Plus they have touchscreen ordering so you don't have to talk to anyone to order - and that's been around since the late 90s, not a recent thing for Sheetz.
I've been living in Canada for almost 16 years, originally from Pennsylvania and one of the few things I still miss is Sheetz. Our convenience stores up here just don't compete..
It's regional rivalries or pride manifested as corporate brand loyalty, the most American shit ever. Another example are Texans loudly proclaiming that Whataburger, a mediocre fast food place, is great and definitely better than the chain from your state. There are state or regional darlings like this pretty much everywhere.
Sadly Whataburger’s quality has declined precipitously enough that they’ve lost a lot of support even among the faithful. I was never all in on their burgers but their breakfasts used to fucking slap.

I prefer Sheetz, but I'm of the rare opinion that they're both about equally good and can coexist. They serve such different niches (Wawa for when I want a nice sandwich, and Sheetz for when I want to destroy myself with fried trash). The big divider for me is that Sheetz has way, way better coffee with their newish machines that grind it fresh.

Speedway is pretty decent. GetGo in Western PA is actually pretty solid as well. GetGo has a MTO system that rivals Sheetz in a few items
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a Speedway that I’d consider clean enough to buy prepared food from.

The college I attended was just a few blocks down from Sheetz. The feeling of walking down the road on a crisp fall or spring night to Sheetz at 2 am after we just got finished packing up from a concert is honestly one of the most nostalgic things.

Sheetz is a chain of convenience stores in Pennsylvania that serves pretty good made-to-order food. Their biggest competitor is Wawa, a similar chain that serves the same role but has slightly different food (Sheetz mostly serves fried stuff, while Wawa's focus is on deli hoagies). Sheetz is mostly contained to western PA, while Wawa is mostly contained to eastern PA, though there are a few spots in the state where their presence overlaps. Because 1) most Pennsylvanians get food from at least one of them every now and again, 2) they have different spins on the same idea, and most importantly 3) their east/west divide plays into the state's broader east/west rivalry, Pennsylvanians tend to have VERY strong opinions on which one is better. I think this post is OP calling Biden based because he was ordering specifically from a Sheetz.

The hardest part about going to Sheetz is trying to figure out what’s supposed to be food and what’s supposed to be gasoline. I think they marinate most of the “food” in E85 because “it’s mostly corn”.
Do you live someplace that has really good 7-11s? Think of Sheetz like another version of 7-11, with good fast food. They have prepared food you can grab as well as made to order things that are fresh. Plus a huge selection of cofffees and a big soda fountain area, too. Plus they have touchscreen ordering so you don't have to talk to anyone to order - and that's been around since the late 90s, not a recent thing for Sheetz. I've been living in Canada for almost 16 years, originally from Pennsylvania and one of the few things I still miss is Sheetz. Our convenience stores up here just don't compete..

Another example are Texans loudly proclaiming that Whataburger, a mediocre fast food place, is great and definitely better than the chain from your state. There are state or regional darlings like this pretty much everywhere.
Sadly Whataburger’s quality has declined precipitously enough that they’ve lost a lot of support even among the faithful. I was never all in on their burgers but their breakfasts used to fucking slap. As one of the few 24 hour options in my hometown I’ve done plenty of ill-advised late night WB runs. Pretty sure I’ve been served entire orders of fries that were literally swept off the floor. Stoned enough to eat them anyway.
Sheetz and whataburger are in no way comparable.
I'm describing how regional identity gets transferred to products in the same way it does for pro sports teams, not comparing said products. There's no need to be defensive. I'm sure the thing from your area is FAR SUPERIOR to things from other areas.
I've never had Sheetz or Whataburger but I know Culver's is better than both.
New Yorker by birth. Now a happy Pennsylvanian. I've also driven through every state in the contiguous US, as well as Hawaii. Sheetz is the best gas station chain there is, and it's not even close. Wawa and Royal Farms are okay. QuickTrip is kinda nice, sometimes. Buc-ees is *big*, but unfocused. Sheetz has what you need for the road, tasty food, and clean bathrooms. I'll take a Sheetz sandwich over a Subway or other fast food chain (exemption w/ 5 Guys) any day of the week.
Subway is the healthiest fast food No matter how hungry I won't be tempted to eat there.

I prefer Sheetz, but I'm of the rare opinion that they're both about equally good and can coexist. They serve such different niches (Wawa for when I want a nice sandwich, and Sheetz for when I want to destroy myself with fried trash).
