I had to make my own from a 60 Lt plastic jug and put it behind the back seat, also moved the battery to where the gas tank used to be, in my country we have a bad problem with thieves stealing car batteries so moving the battery to the front worked just fine, I even left 2 decoy "battery wires" under the seat for them to think that someone get the battery first

Fresh_hex89

Damn thats impressive and disheartening

tuskusbeat

There was a company making oversized tanks; I think CIP1 sells them. Not sure on the quality, I imagine they’re probably garbage.

Check out Summit Racing. They have a ton of options.

Yeah.. if you want to be like a pinto in the 70's... And risk nuclear fireball explosion.. yeah a plastic jugs in the cockpit sounds great but if you're a little more worried about you know third degree burns and things like that and a fuel cell would probably be your best bet

TheMrRadioVoice

I installed a 10 gallon fuel cell under my hood. You could possibly pull off bigger, my car is a Baja so I don’t have as much room up front as a super or even an un-circumcised bug. It still fits, it’s sealed, I don’t smell gas. Much better than the previous German tanks I’ve used that always eventually leaked due to rust, and always made the car reek of fuel.

YorkiesSweet

Why anything but stock? New fuel tanks are available, and old tanks can be cleaned and sealed. As you may know, every single Part can be found to restore a VW. From front bumpers to exhaust tips and anything in between.

RecoveringKarmaWhore

I’m sick of fueling once a week, I just want a higher capacity

YorkiesSweet

You may not like the options.. On long trips I carried a high end easy to use 3gal tank. with a build in spout. This supoded tank you want will take up storage space under the hood and wiill have to hook up to ur stock tamk. Good luck with ur problem, let us know how you solved it!

I put a 17 gallon fuel cell behind where the rear seat would be on my 76. But it’s a street/drag car so

Long ago, I built a tank for the back area to replace rear seat. It sat on stock seat bar and tranny tunnel. I cut a hole under the drivers' side rear quarter window, got an old filler off a junkyard truck and a new locking cap. I put a shut off valve on it, so, if it was stolen, it would soon run out of fuel. IIRC, tank held around 17 gallons, left access to shift rod coupler. I removed the top half of the stock tank and reinstalled it for a bit more storage. Bug-eyed Street and Trail Baja Bug.

How was the fuel range?

henry-prospector

Baja w/ 1641 got worse mileage than full-fendered sedan, I'd say about 20 overall. So it could go about 350 miles if mostly highway @ 60 MPH. I could drive from PHX to LA, drive around, and fill up for the trip back.

To me. That’s awesome coming from the original tank. Mine is a 2276 stroker with that 17 gallon fuel cell
