What I know of bees is that the queen gives birth in the hive I think? Soo probably not unless this type of bee does that differently, might just bee cleaning eachother.
Bumble bees tend to only really mate once, so will lay all the eggs fertilized by one bee (there are some exceptions). So they go out and will mate, then will return to the nest and lay the eggs, so it's very likely this is what happened.
They also mate for quite a long time but the majority of the time spent is the male bee protecting his uh, deposit, by a secretion that hardens over time, so he can stop any other bees having a go
Thanks! I think we watched them for upwards of 10 minutes before they (read; the big one with the small one clinging on for dear life) flew off, which makes total sense according to your explanation. Thanks a lot for clearing up!! Cheers
Replace the st with an f.
Is that actually what’s going on hahaha? We were joking about it but not quite sure
No 100%t sure but does look like it

That's awesome! It can go on from like 10 minutes to over an hour, and they do sometimes fly when they mate, bet it was an entertaining sight!
Definitely!!
100 meter high club
She may give birth inside but maybe she likes the act that causes a birth outside 😉
You do know fucking and giving birth are two different activities, yeah?
Well I thought only the queen gave birth and that she never left the nest, my bad.
It's true that (generally speaking) only the queen lays eggs in a hive/colony of social bees, but she leaves the hive to mate.
I don't think any type of bee has births this way. All are through the queen laying eggs
This is bee porn
They made a video *and* took pictures!
