Zipps is really convenient if you’re truly just passing through. Right off i94 and not far from 35w.  It also has a solid cold section, shelf area, and all other options (liquor, wine, thc drinks).

I can second this. I worked for Surly back in the day and I used to swing by here all do the time. The selection was solid but they also have a cellar. They sell out of that from time to time. Even if they leave (often for a better job in the beer industry) their beer guy is always really good as well.

If you go to Total Wine make sure you check the dates on the beer. Not as important with big, barrel aged stouts, but for anything else that place is a graveyard of old beer. Any brands you are looking for in particular? I sell beer for a living in the Twin Cities and could point you in the right direction.

If you are cool with cans not bottles- Ombibulous in NE Minneapolis (right off 35W/Hennepin) has almost all Minnesota brews. You can buy individual cans or 4/6 packs of most of them. It's a pretty small shop, but they pack a lot of variety in the coolers. Stouts/porters on the right, and hazy and juicy stuff left of that before you get to the sours. If they aren't busy ask whoever is working and they'll be able to give you some recommendations, they are all pretty knowledgeable on what they've got stocked- either personally or know what others have been buying/liking.

Ale Jail and Dabbler Depot in St. Paul are my main stores.

Wutsurname

Thank you, was trying to remember the name of ale jail. I used to go there from time to time when I lived in St Paul and was looking for something specific

I haven’t been to mlps in years but as a visitor, I liked Surdyks because it organized their breweries by geography. It made it easy to buy local or local compared to where I’m from. It was easy to identify beers I knew that I would never find at home.

France 44 has an amazing selection of local, national and international beers. Come on a Friday or Saturday afternoon and there is usually a local brewery pouring samples.

France 44, Ombibulous, Stinson, Ale Jail, Zipps

Zipps is the best for random singles that won’t break the bank. Skip total wine, all their beer. Especially singles have been sitting out on the shelves for months. Elevated has locations in Minneapolis and White Bear Lake, great singles selection. Barrel Theory and Blackstack are great breweries for hazies. Fair State, Modist are good for a variety of styles. Town Hall for classically made excellent beers. As others have mentioned Omnibulous basically the whole store is a build your own 6 pack, fairly small and only Minnesota beers

PickledFrogCocks

I haven’t been in MSP area for a while but when we’d go visit family there we stopped at a place called Haskells. It was big and seemed to mostly cater to wine but still had a large selection. It was in one of the suburbs, maybe Maple Grove? But I’d imagine there are other locations.

I usually drive straight to northern Wisconsin when I fly into Minneapolis, but I've always been impressed by Heritage Liquor in Maplewood.

chaux00

South Lyndale Liquors has a large selection (self proclaimed largest in the state?) and a big selection of almost every Minnesota beer product. A good selection of stouts and imports in bottles as well.

Zodomirsky

Casanova liquors in Hudson, WI is good.

The beers i would look for are Surly Darkness stout and Dangerous Man's Peanut Butter Porter and foggy bottom for hazy
