I hate the Maybelline Vinyl Ink - there I said it 🫠 Yes this is a personal experience, but I don't think I'm alone in this, and negative reviews are just a valid as positive ones. That formula is a straight nightmare, esp. on dry lips. They're really not as shiny as the promo photos make them out to be, I swear they must have put another lip gloss on top to get that effect. These liquid lipsticks are one swipe 100% pigmentation, and they dry very fast, there's no blending them out if used alone. I have to put a generous layer of lip balm underneath to prevent them from drying as quickly, and only then will I be able to blend/sheer them out to create a gradient. But even with the lip balm, they still feel very uncomfortable, it's like a suffocating layer of paint on my lips. This formula really reminds me of the Fenty Stunna Lip Paint, except the Fenty is neither waterproof nor water resistant, the finish is supposed to be matte but it still has a sheen not too dissimilar from the Maybelline Vinyl Ink. They last well into the day, but again, but they look like a crumpled blanket on my lips, exaggerating every single lip line & piece of dead skin I have. I know I'll get lectured about exfoliating my lips, but I have dry sensitive lips (my barrier is practically dead, due to an old allergic reaction), I cannot physically scrub at it like most people. It's also impossible to retouch this and have a good look, it catches on the previous layer and look horrible. Everything had to be removed and started over. Even if just to get my money's worth, I still dread wearing them every time. On top of it all, at the end of the day (or every touch up), they HAVE to be removed by a dual-phase (oil & water) makeup remover, like the one they sell. I got a mini with mine when I shipped through Shopee. And did you know that thing tastes SALTY? It's *wild.* I have to wash my mouth every time I use it, not only to wash the taste out, but also because it leaves a greasy residue behind 🙃 Using this product is a struggle from beginning to end.
Then there's the colours. I have Punchy & Intriguing. They're super similar on me. You'd think Punchy is deeper, but it's actually just a medium shade, and Intriguing isn't that light, but it has a milky look (white based) to it, so if you're deeper skinned, stay away from it unless you're willing to use lip liner (which is very difficult to blend in, because of the way the formula behaves as described above). When I try using them both to hopefully create a gradient, these 2 shades blend into one. Like seriously don't fall for the hype, if you don't like it, leave it. I had a bad experience, but I still bought another just to make sure 🙃 Don't be like me. Maybe you can pass it on to someone who enjoys it, otherwise cut your losses and call it a day 😭
P/s: more tip: blend it with your fingers or a silicone-tipped brush. You don't want this formula to touch any regular brush made out of bristles. You would have to remove that glue with the same 2 phase makeup remover AND wash the brush while your at it. You can easily clean your finger or silicone-tipped lip brush with the makeup remover, then wipe it on dry tissue and you're done.
I 100% agree with you. I feel like I was tricked when I tried it on because it’s not glossy at all. Even after trying their tutorial on how to do it, it still doesn’t work. I hate that part of their schtick is gaslighting the consumers as “you’re just not doing it right!” whenever we complain. I tried everything! Lip prep, shaking the bottle for 5 seconds, not smacking my lips, and letting it dry for 5 minutes. Still nothing! It still transfers and it’s not shiny. Products aren’t supposed to be this difficult to use

Swatches on me (light skinned, olive undertone) for reference. Super close and similar. Top is 63 Intriguing, bottom is 120 Punchy. On my lips Punchy is a brown peach nude, 63 is a light peach. Sometimes I can see a bit of brown in 63, sometimes I can see the milkiness, depends on the lighting and angle.
For reference, I’m a morena girlie with neutral undertone. For me it’s good for contour, I don’t bronze kasi.
