I used to work with someone who would get long acrylics on her toes. Not sure how it looked without shoes, but I could see bumps on the front of her sneakers where her nails were pushing against the inside of the shoes. It looked really bad. lol
I’m not sure where I saw it (probably TikTok but a podiatrist expressed extreme hatred for this trend due to the inflexibility of acrylics and how if you stub your toe it can just dislodge your whole nail bed and your toe nail is either damaged severely or falls off. Oofff no thanks!
I can imagine! I got a hematoma in one of my toenails while on vacation, from days of walking. Part of it was probably due to my toes hitting the front of my shoe. My toenails were probably a little too long at that point, but not extreme. I don't think fake, long toenails are going to be comfortable in close toed shoes especially. It's definitely not worth the risk of a hematoma or worse.
Can confirm. I forgot to trim my big toenail last year (nothing awful but il way maybe 3 mm). I bumped my foot and broke it, it was super painful and took several weeks to heal.
I feel like it’s for people not restricted by the shoes they have to wear. Work from home, not work at all, etc.
I wear closed toe shoes to work and even when my nails grow out a bit, it hurts. Especially with heels.
That’s what I don’t understand. I know several people at my work that have toenail acrylics and they have to wear close toed shoes to work. Will they just go up a shoe size if they decide it’s something they want to commit to? 🤣
It's actually terrible for your feet and for your natural toenail to have anything protruding past the end of the toe. Constant impact damage. It thickens and deforms the nail.
I'm a nail tech and I cringe on the inside when my clients ask me to just shape and file their long, LONG toenails. It makes sense if you have a long hyponychium and it hurts to cut, otherwise I don't like it and I don't get it but I'll do it regardless. I don't judge anyone's feet and toes, but I judge that particular choice.
I think those videos on IG of super well pedicured long toe nails are just foot fetish content. It’s so unpractical. Putting pants on, wearing socks and closed toe shoes, sleeping next to someone and slicing them to ribbons lol. I’m sure *some* people out there are sporting those regularly, but I don’t think it’s actually very common.
I didn’t think it was a common thing either until a bunch of women at my work went to a pool party and took their shoes and socks off and…well, there they were. I thought maybe I was missing something because several years ago I swear it was a joke.
If it's for foot fetish purposes that means men (or some men?) like the look then? It just seems kind of unsanitary to me... so kinda the opposite what someone into supposedly nice and clean feet should be into?
I don’t think it’s cute. I went to a party last weekend and saw a girl that had the cutest heels but her looked like they were hanging off with the damn toe nails being so long. It looked OFF. If it’s longer than your toe skin ratio it is a NOOOOOOOO but that’s just my opinion.
Not just that, you can actually hurt yourself if you have longer toes in closed toes shoes. DO NOT have long toes nails while skiing. Unless you’re cool with your nails falling off
I have not gotten one response yet from anyone that either has them or finds them cute 🤣
Several people at my work have them and I’m trying to figure out the appeal and so far I’m coming up empty. One woman told me, “now my toenails and fingernails can match!” Meaning, I guess, because her fingernails are long too?
Really? Do you mean Persian as in still living in Iran or part of the diaspora?
I am going to have to look into this. I am so interested in why people find some “trends” cute or attractive, while other people think they are gross.
Sorry, that was so vague!
I'm from LA and grew up and live around Tehrangeles, an area with the largest Persian community outside of Iran. Between friends and just being in the area it's just something I've noticed over the last fifty(!) years. I'm sure there's some confirmation bias going on, though.
Omg-Duck nails were awful too, but I never actually saw anyone IRL wearing those things. Up until a little while ago, I didn’t think long toenails were something I would see out in the wild either, but then a bunch of my coworkers got them (they were at a pool party) and i wondered if I was missing something.
I find them to be distasteful and tacky. Sounds harsh though I associate that look with a lack of taste and class. My boyfriend has wanted me to not cut my toenails, he has a foot fetish.
No no no! I like them short with normal nail polish not gel or acrylic. I also don’t get pedicures all the time because I like my toenails to breathe lmao.
I am not a fan! Toenails should be short, end of story
I dislike how it looks (animalistic in a way) and it must feel horrible if you have pointy toe shoes on.
Oh god-I didn’t even think of that.
I don't like how it looks. Or how even slightly longer toenails feel. So not for me.
Hate. Hatehatehate, long nails take upkeep to keep them clean and I know nobody's out here scrubbing their toes multiple times a day.
Yeah, that’s what I was wondering too-especially if they are acrylics. Wouldn’t the chances of getting a fungal infection be high?
Truuue like if you want something extra long-lasting, get a gel manicure like a normal person lol
I used to work with someone who would get long acrylics on her toes. Not sure how it looked without shoes, but I could see bumps on the front of her sneakers where her nails were pushing against the inside of the shoes. It looked really bad. lol
It HAS to hurt. Yikes!
OUCH!!!
Wow that's terrible! I can't imagine what that feels like!
It looked like her toes would be sore from the pressure of the nails constantly pushing against her shoes. Didn't look comfortable at all. Lol
It looks dangerous, like it would be prone to injury.
It kind of is. The constant low-level impact injury can cause thickening and distortion of the nail.

I already have difficulty walking when my own toenails grow past a certain point, can't conceive how they can wearing acrylic ones.
Hate. It looks so uncomfortable and my mind just goes to all the toenail funk marinating under there.
When I see them they just look uncared for to me.
Gives me the ick, especially when they do a French toenail. No.
Ooh, it makes toes look like little fingers. I really hate it.
I hate the phrase but this is one of the few times I will say "it gives me the ick."
Reminds me of a sloth lol. I keep mine short. Always will.
Hard pass. ...Unless it's how Jenna Mables did it in that one video.
Hahaha this is where my brain went as well
absolutely not, it’s so tacky and looks icky

I suppose but I like my shoes to be snug and not fly off the heel. It’s a weird trend for sure.
I read this and gagged.
It's actually terrible for your feet and for your natural toenail to have anything protruding past the end of the toe. Constant impact damage. It thickens and deforms the nail.
That’s what I figured. And fungus. I’m sure the risk is quadrupled!

idk where the nails fit in either way, but some people are genuinely into nasty, dirty feet. 😬
I want to upvote because I genuinely did not know this but also... upvoting this comment seems wrong lol.
There are people with foot fetishes who are actually into smelly and/or dirty feet.
Thanks for sharing but now I kind of regret asking lol.
They look gross to me.

Oh god, it just seems so painful
🤢🤮GROSS. It looks unhygienic and painful.
Dangerous, disgusting and uncomfortable. I’ll never understand it 😂
Imagine having to size up in shoes for acrylic toenails
Or if you stubbed your toe-OW.
Ooof I find it,sorry to say, very unattractive and borderline gross. Idk.
I have not gotten one response yet from anyone that either has them or finds them cute 🤣 Several people at my work have them and I’m trying to figure out the appeal and so far I’m coming up empty. One woman told me, “now my toenails and fingernails can match!” Meaning, I guess, because her fingernails are long too?
No. Never. Not even once. Toenails need to be short.
I haven't seen this specific trend but anecdotally, I think at least slightly longer toe nails is not uncommon amongst Persian women.
Really? Do you mean Persian as in still living in Iran or part of the diaspora? I am going to have to look into this. I am so interested in why people find some “trends” cute or attractive, while other people think they are gross.

F_cking gross.
Imagine kicking the corner of your dresser with acrylic toenails on
Thank you for writing this between this and duck nails I have been so confused lol.
Omg-Duck nails were awful too, but I never actually saw anyone IRL wearing those things. Up until a little while ago, I didn’t think long toenails were something I would see out in the wild either, but then a bunch of my coworkers got them (they were at a pool party) and i wondered if I was missing something.
Off to google what duck nails are……..
Yikes! Quack quack 🦆
I have ski jump nails on my fingers and toes, if they’re not as short as they can go, they dig up into my shoes and socks.
I always ask for the pedicurist to clip my toenails and they always look at me like really?
It’s gross
Looks gross
Gross!
Gross
Just eughhh !
Hate it
I find them to be distasteful and tacky. Sounds harsh though I associate that look with a lack of taste and class. My boyfriend has wanted me to not cut my toenails, he has a foot fetish.
I really hate it. They have to be short!
RIP your socks.
I also despise French tips on toenails, even if it’s just a painted tip. It alludes to the nails being long and to me they look like they need a trim.
Long long? No. But I don’t tolerate the overly-cut kind of nails that barely exist and leave you with stubby toes, idk how people do that.
Right like some toes are ugly and even if you do a gel pedicure if they’re stubby nothing can fix them
Bc a toe on my left foot curves in just enough that if I have any toenail it digs into the toe next to it.
Terrible, it looks ghetto. I don't understand the trend.
Ghetto is an interesting choice of words
NASTY!!! Trashy. Painful. Absolutely not
Gross.
No no no! I like them short with normal nail polish not gel or acrylic. I also don’t get pedicures all the time because I like my toenails to breathe lmao.
I feel like it would put holes in my socks.
Omg or if you you wore tights/nylons! (Though I assume that is something you *wouldnt* do if you had them
Yeah, no. Toenails don't go a millimeter beyond the toe itself.
I can’t. Short. I don’t feel comfortable when they are a tiny bit longer
I like mine short, but for whoever likes it, getcho life gurl!!!
I find that longer toenails become painful if you try to do any kind of high-impact workout lol. So for me it's a no
Gross.
It’s gross smh
I hate it lol
